My husband and I decided to stay the night at the Grand Amway Hotel in Grand Rapids to celebrate his birthday. We selected a room on the 24th floor. The room itself was average with a typical TV, desk, chair, and king sized bed. The dimmer lights were a nice touch. Unfortunately the bathroom was a huge disappointment. The water pressure from the sink was low and it took so long for the water to heat up. The toilet required flushing three times when just flushing toilet paper because the paper would float back up. The worst part was the shower. The drain was so slow that the water from the shower rose above my ankles while showering. I had to stop my shower several times because I was worried it would overflow onto the bathroom floor. It’s hard to feel clean when water you are washing your body with is rising up over your feet and ankles.

While the building itself looks impressive, our room and overall experience with the staff was disappointing. We had stayed at the Marriott across the street six months earlier and were much more impressed with the staff and room, even with being on the 3rd floor. We have no desire to revisit the Grand Amway again.

The view was incredible, but the experience was more “standard hotel room” than I expected based on other times I have stayed in the Curio Collection hotels. And it took the shower almost five solid minutes to get kind of warm.

My stay at Amway was so-so. When I checked in at the hotel, my room was not selected prior and staff informed me that if I still wanted a king bed, I wouldn't have the greatest view. I made a reservation and indicated in my notes that I wanted a great view and paid for the river view room style. We received a room with 2 queen beds for us to get a great river view which was fine, but I noticed that the notes I wrote wasn't viewed because I also was near an elevator and that was indicated in my notes that I didn't want to be next to an elevator. I went back to the front desk the following day and asked about how parking worked regarding using my key on the day of checkout which I thought would have been told during check in. The room was nice but the toilet is extremely loud when you flush and for a place to be upscale, I would think this wouldn't be an issue. I visited IDC Speakeasy inside the hotel and there was a wedding party in there so the space was limited and loud for it to be a speakeasy. I think this will be a place that I would visit and utilize the amenities but not a place I would stay at in the near future.

Room was small but overall hotel was pretty cool. Great location, bed was ok but annoyed it was tough to get a cup of coffee in the morning and the espresso machine was down apparently….. would expect better from this hotel to get it fixed quickly or buy another one

What an absolute nightmare! This was the first time I’d taken an adventure out of town with my daughter, she’s 7. We went to GR to see Three Days Grace and were gifted concert tickets for Christmas. First things first;
Parking is an absolute scam! You pay over $200 for some nasty room in the old nasty building only to be charged an extra $41-$49 for parking. We paid over $200 for one night in a single bed room, we get there and were placed in a handicapped room in the old out of date nasty rooms. We asked about the pool.. “oh well that’s in the tower elevators on the 4th floor.” It was so hot in there I was ready to pass out and vomit, we had to leave. The mattresses in the rooms were so old and outdated I didn’t sleep at all, I was afraid they were so worn and used and disfigured I’d end up on the floor. The pool was old and gross. The cushions on the “poolside lounges” were so old and gross you could literally see the butt and mold imprints of decades of guests well formed. We were offered a $10/person breakfast…. Well, you want to get breakfast, it’s at least $15/person plus beverages, plus tip if you wanna leave one. This place was
GROSS! Never ever again, will I stay here. The fact that they charge so much for nasty, outdated rooms,and extra $41-50 for parking overnight, FALSE
ADVERTISING FOR
THE ROOMS OFFERED, nasty pool with moldy cushions, a nasty room with nerds candy everywhere and dirty floors, $10 breakfast per person that ended up costing me almost $40. Awful!

The hotel is beautiful but the policies really undermine having an experience that aligns with the cost of staying there.

There was no one to help unload my car so I grabbed a luggage trolley that was available in the car drop off space. There were at least 10 lined up. After I unloaded my car and got halfway in the hotel a worker told me the trolley “wasn’t for me”. Those trolleys were only for guests “who want help unloading.” I had to unload my luggage onto another trolley and was told to be sure to return the trolley to the front desk when I was done. I was never asked if I needed or wanted help.

At checkout, my daughter called and asked someone to bring a trolley to our room and we were told to come and get it ourselves. I don’t fault the workers, these seem to be hotel policies. But this is not the experience I’d expect when we paid over $500 to stay at the hotel per night.

The hotel had one small “restaurant” (the size of a small Starbucks) offering breakfast. This is a huge hotel, so obviously the line for breakfast was about 25+ people deep.

The Amway does not seem concerned with guest experience- despite the high cost of staying there. We went to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. We won’t be staying there again. Next time I’ll try to JW Marriott across the street.

The service at the hotel was great. Every team member had a smile and was helpful.
The room was clean and accommodating. I didnt care for the bathroom layout. It was small and the toilet paper holder was in an awkward spot. The toilet reminded me of a public toilet due to its design. Those are minor irritants. The view was amazing! We were on the 23rd floor overlooking the river.
We enjoyed dinner and drinks at Wolfgang Kitchen. The food and service was great. The skywalk to DeVos Hall was convenient for the show we enjoyed last night.

Vallet was a mess, spent 10 minutes waiting in turnout. Emded up.self parking. Party that was not shut down until just before midnight. Water in shower never got warm. We planned on going to Wolfgangs but woke up Sunday morning with pinkeye (first time we left house since Wednesday due to.weather)! We could not leave fast enough.

We’ve stayed here many times in the past, so take that into account. Room was nice as always, really liked the gym as well. Many options of equipment.
Front desk gal was a bit nonchalant at check in. Almost seemed like I was a hinderance to her day. Really the only disappointment of the trip, but not a good first impression.
Bellhop Fayez is always a delight and a shining star of the facility. They need to clone him. And all the valets were exceptional as well, as always. They hire very nice young men as valets.
We will be back! Location is perfect, amazing room views and nice ambiance.

This hotel has gone downhill. This did not feel like a luxury experience. Not sure if they overbooked but the elevator took 1hour+ to get on and there was an excruciating amount of kids running around. Went to check out the pool 5 times to get in and it was packed and even looked over capacity everytime so we were not able to get in until 7am the next day when we had to leave. Very disappointed and to top it off they removed the Starbucks which gave the hotel its classic appeal. Also dinned at the Ruth Chris restaurant and the meat was raw.

Room did not match description or pictures. We were put in the smallest hotel room I've ever been in. There was a washcloth under our covers at the foot of our bed and the tubs drain was pulled out. The room keys were difficult to use and you had to wave them in front of the scanner multiple times to get them to work.

No blankets just sheets! Freezing so we turned the thermostat up. They did not tell us about having to use the card to work the elevator even after I went to the front desk with questions about it. I also said my boyfriend can’t walk anymore from all this craziness back and forth and thought they would offer a wheelchair? Absolutely nothing and he’s already had acouple heart attacks!!

They placed us by an elevator which kept me up all night. When we arrived to our room, housekeeping immediately walked in saying they weren’t supposed to assign us this room because they needed to replace the shower curtain which they had to return to do. Tub had hair in it still. The bed was horribly uncomfortable. Hotel was beautiful otherwise, just not worth the money for the room we had.

While the common areas were great, the room we were in on the 4th floor was very disappointing, especially considering the price we paid. There was mold in a couple areas of the bathroom (or at least black dirt in several spots), the wood trim was pretty banged up - one spot had about a 2\" x 2\" spot of bare wood, the tub stopper and the sink stopper were broken, and the mini-fridge didn't get very cold. Honestly, we've had much better rooms at a courtyard by marriott for about half the price. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

Room was clean, pretty view of the river, staff seemed to expect a tip for literally everything which was obnoxious to us just coming for an overnight stay; the hotel was beautiful inside and loved having a ton of options for food close by amd the central location of the hotel. I stayed as a hilton member and was a bit surprised when I asked for an hour later check out and was told no on the phone. My partner went to the front to explain I was not feeling well and just needed a little extra time, was still told no, and only when I texted hilton honors about how frustrated I was, did I get anywhere. I understand other guests are coming but they can't check in until 3 or 4 pm and I expected much more warm and understanding responses from such a nice hotel as well as the middle aged bellman being so rude when I didnt have cash at the moment for him, I also didn't need him to help us with 2 bags of luggage but I get it. Overall would give it another shot, could have been an off day for staff and it was a beautiful and clean hotel. I did not eat breakfast due to being sick and the ac in the room was fast acting and smelled clean.

We arrived at 5:00pm to check in, check in starts at 4:00pm. We were informed that there were no clean rooms and we would be the next on the list. After waiting 45 minutes in a packed lobby, we went back up to the front desk to ask how long it would be as we had dinner reservations upcoming. A different employee helped us, and told us we were actually 5th on the list but he would be able to get us into a room right then and there. We got to the room and were getting ready for dinner when a different couple opened the door to our room. The front desk did not block off the room as occupied and double booked it. We were offered no resolution from having no room upon arrival and having someone come in on our room.

We stayed here for an overnight concert event at Van Andel. The skywalk connects the hotel to the concert venue which is a great convenience. The hotel resort is huge and beautifully decorated. Plenty of dinner options but I highly recommend making reservations especially on a weekend. MDRD restaurant is on the 27th floor with beautiful views of the city. The staff is friendly and helpful! Our room was very spacious and quiet.

Cons: No closet space for hanging clothes in a standard double queen room. Hot water could be hotter.
Parking is very pricey.
