Great location and the bar/restaurant area is brilliant with music and great styling, very nice staff and good to have free movie selection and tv options.
However, we booked a large room, it was no different to our friend’s room who booked medium and was very basic. It’s meant to be minimalist style but the hard bed, thin pillows, hard to control air con and general frugal feel (no coffee/hot drinks facilities) just felt a bit cheap and ripped off considering it’s not a cheap price and how many lovely other hotels there are to choose from.

Mama Shelter hotels are always funky and interesting. The Bordeaux one is in a quiet area but only a couple of minutes walk from the main shopping area. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially when we needed advice on how to get the to arena for a show. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the first night as we arrived late after a long day, but the service was non existent and the food average so I would avoid eating there as there are so many fabulous restaurants in the area. The room was quirky with the bed in the middle of the room. We had a really enjoyable 4 days in Bordeaux and would recommend it for a short break.

Quirky decoration throughout, confortable and clean. Staff were welcoming. Located in the city centre, so easy access by foot. There's no access by car due to barriers on the streets, so we had to use a local car park. At night, the area around the hotel didn't feel particularly welcoming due to homelessness, but this was a problem all around the city.

Ma chambre était grande propre bien équipée.
On m'a accueillie au beau milieu de la nuit suite au retard de mon train le personnel est vraiment gentil. Le resto au rooftop est très bien et la vue est magnifique. Cependant j'ai entendu des propos très désobligeants de la part du 'manager\" du resto envers les employées fémines. Ça m'a beaucoup dérangée, je ne suis plus retournée au restaurant pour le reste de mon séjour.

Of the four hotels we stayed during our holiday in France, this one was the absolute best! I highly recommend this LGBTQ friendly property. It is so much fun and the rooftop bar is a must! The rooms are super spacious (I know… this is a hotel in Bordeaux!) and the bed so comfortable. The mirrors and bed all light up to making it extra cool!

This is a great hotel in the center of Bordeaux which is very close to most of the main attractions in the city. It has a modern vibe and the bars are hopping in the evenings. The breakfast was really good. The staff was amazing and very helpful. The rooms are a bit small and there’s no coffee in the rooms but it’s France and the coffee is easy to get downstairs

We had an amazing stay at mama shelter in bordeaux. The bar and restaurant are great. The vibe is amazing. The only issue we had was that our shower lost pressure so we couldn’t wash before we left. I expected the staff to offer some form of discount considering the inconvenience but they did not. Given that being able to wash is a pretty fundamental aspect of staying in a hotel I do think they staff could have made more of an effort to compensate us.

Great location and stylish hotel- yet the basics such as a kettle and or coffee machine weren’t in the room. There was a microwave (!) but no serve ware or cutlery whatsoever - so overall really useless.
Worst of all though - on January 3rd the fire alarm went off at 6:10am... luckily it turned out to be a false alarm. Yet do you think anyone would even have so much as apologised? It was met with complete negligence to the point that we even had to ask several Staff whether there was truly nothing serious going on!!! There was no reassurance nor any apology for the disturbance (again, everybody was woken up and ran out in PJs!), nothing! Was handled at a level of unprofessionalism that left me baffled. Not even a free coffee offered to the guests the next morning. So hotel wise: great! Service wise: deplorable!

The minute I walked into Mama Shelters doors, it was like walking into a party. The staff was very welcoming and pleasant. The room was clean, also festive in its own way, the technology for the rooms was also great in regards to streaming channels, WiFi etc. The rooftop bar was also nice and festive. The hotels location was great. All the major sites were walkable. I would definitely stay at one of their hotels again

We did enjoy our stay. A 'cool' hotel in a top notch location in Bordeaux. Our overall impression on entering our room was that of supreme comfort - couldn't wait to try out the bed which was heavenly. The room and bathroom were so excellently organized that one didn't feel cramped. Was amazed to find that you'd even provided a microwave! Thank you.

This is a unique hotel in a convenient location. Easy to walk to nearby shopping and restaurants. The room was a good size for myself and my husband, and we enjoyed the style of the decor. The hotel has a very nice view of the city from the rooftop restaurant. We didn’t eat here, but did have drinks at the downstairs restaurant bar one evening. Even though it seems to have a happening nightlife, our room was quiet and relaxing. We would recommend this hotel and stay here again.

Cool design, hip hotel.

Had to book a last minute stay and the only hotel available was Mama Shelter. It was a bit on the pricey side for my budget but worth the price. The room was amazing, and now that I know of Mama Shelter I would like to come back to one of their other locations. Also the restaurant downstairs looked really cool too bad I didn’t get a chance to eat there.

Cool hipster hotel, small rooms

This hotel room is very similar to the Standard Hotel or some of the more \"hipster\" hotels in the US - very small rooms that focus attention on the vibe of the common areas over the rooms themselves. Our room was very small and the bathrooms were not comfortable but managed to fit the bill for one night. That being said, the location was perfect - right next to a parking garage and mall with a Monoprix (grocery store) and walking distance of main parts of town. The vibe of the hotel outside the room was very cool - lobby bar was packed, good music and great for pics. They have a rooftop bar that was closed during our stay but would be a place people go to for drinks, even if not staying at the hotel. Wifi was great in the rooms and lobby, programming on the tv's was interesting, and they branded everything (soaps, shampoo, etc.).

Stylish and Convenient Bordeaux Bolthole

Very trendy hotel in a great location for the city centre - very close to two tram lines, the cathedral and designer shopping street. Most tourist sights were in easy walking distance.
Very comfortable beds with high quality linens in spacious and quirky designer rooms. Organic toiletries provided together with hand-written welcome note and madeleines.
The rooftop bar is open to non-residents and very popular so it can be difficult to get a table but worth it if you succeed!
There is music in the ground floor bar/restaurant most evenings.
Staff are very friendly and are quick to address any niggles. We had a problem with the air con in our west-facing room and were moved to a cooler room.
At first glance the menus look expensive but Bordeaux is an expensive city so they are actually pretty much aligned with local prices.
There were some couples with small children staying but I wouldn't recommend it for families as there is a variety of items of an adult nature for sale in reception and several varieties of adult channel available free of charge on the high tech TVs in the rooms.

Great hotel! Service a little on the slow side sometimes and road works around centre of city meant accessing hotel extremely difficult. Out of their hands I know but nobody seems to have planned an access route to provide guests who are arriving by car with to avoid the worst of the delays!

The hotel has small but nice rooms. Some have very poor views (into a stairwell), but they are relatively quiet. The breakfast buffet is good (17 Euros if not included with the room), but there are breakfast places within 10 minutes, e.g. on rue Ste. Catherine. The hotel is in the old part of the city and centrally located to many of the places of interest. The rooftop bar is a nice place to spend a sunny day.

Hipster hotel in great location.

I would recommend Mama Shelter for someone that is looking for a clean and convenient hotel in a great central Bordeaux location. However, I'll warn that it's a bit unusual in it's styling and atmosphere. As we checked in on a Friday night after 10:00 pm, the restaurant on the ground floor was blasting rap music, which made me a bit worried that my hotel choice would not give me a restful night sleep. But once we got to the room, it was very quiet and very dark and had everything we needed. The tv was one of the best I've used in a hotel - an Apple monitor with a great menu that let you easily select the English channels. They also provided a great Dyson fan that kept the air moving since the air conditioning wasn't chilling the room completely (it was also 100 degrees out). The shower was large, powerful and drained well (which is hard to find in a European hotel). I would say the toiletries could be improved, as could the pillows. Overall, I was very happy with the hotel, especially because of it's central location, making it easy to stop back during the day to rest for a bit before heading out for wine and dinner. Just be ready for a hip and modern atmosphere.

Try a bit too hard to be cool

It's a nice hotel in the central Bordeau area. A little difficult to get to by car but parking not too far away.
We got a warm welcome the room was not set up quite right two singles not the double we ordered but the came and converted it instantly.
The restaurant on the roof is very lively and has great views. Good food but quite pricey for essentially bistro food.
Can't really fault the place maybe just a bit too cool for school.

Didn´t have time to check out the rooftop terrace, but it certainly was popular judging by the amount of people going there. The only negative is that there was a bunch of homeless people hanging out in the small plaza in front of the hotel the first night - making quite a noise in the morning.

A large hotel within easy reach of tram's, and walking distance of all the sights.
The staff were super friendly and helpful.
The room was sound proof, and spacious and very clean.
Everything seemed really new and great quality.
Breakfast was very good.
In the evening it was very popular with all ages of people, eating, drinking and dancing.

Great location, near to centre and easy walking distance to bars, restaurants, shops, tram lines etc Hotel very interesting design, lovely bar and restaurant space and buzzy at the weekends. Our stay would have been great I'm sure except that the air conditioning in our room was not working properly, this meant the room was too hot to sleep in. We complained each day but weren't moved and the problem wasn't fixed until we were checking out so we had three nights of terrible sleep. It was a shame because other stays at Mama Shelter hotels have been great. Hopefully it was a one off.

Rooms are functional and nicely designed, if a tad simple. Fantastic comfy beds and very quiet with huge windows. We were on 5th floor so had great views over the roof tops of the city.

Good location and value!

Nice location, close enough to walk everywhere we planned to visit :) Taking the metro/tram was easy to the train station. Service was helpful, and room size was comparable to what you find in most European cities. Enjoyed the rooftop bar and views !

Great stay

Excellent quirky hotel in good position to get around Bordeaux. Staff we excellent and we're very polite and helpful. Lovey roof top bar with great views over the town.
