Perfect location near main transportation (Funicular, Metro station), as well as the main tourist attraction: Istiklal street, Galata tower and others.

Advertised roof terrace was closed for construction. In spite of choosing to stay on first floor to limit hearing rooftop construction this was still quite loud during the day.
Requested non-smoking room but there was a smell of stale cigarettes that made me feel sick.
Services shaft was the view out of the rear 'window' to the room. which is not fire safe! Grille had falled off bathroom ventilation riser...which is hardly suprising given it was stuck on with double sided sticky tape!
Wire for lighting sticking out of wall with no light on. Missing / non-functioning bulbs in several of the lights in the room. Felt so uncomfortable we ended up going elsewhere and were glad we did, in spite of the expense, as I ended up dreading returning to the hotel.

Whenever I’m in Turkey I stay here. Walkable to most things. Convenient for dining and shopping. Near galata tower. Clean, friendly, they really take care of you. Not one complaint. Highly recommend.

Just plain old normal. The hotel is between good quality and dilapidated. The location is great, the staff is nice, the hotel has seen better days. It is a bit expensive but I get the feeling that, in Istanbul at the moment, if you do not pay a decent amount, you will get very low quality.

The WORST hotel experience, the room was terrible!
We booked a room for four nights in July 2022, but my wife and I could stay there only for one night! We trusted the pictures and reviews, but the room was really small, with no space for two luggage! The room was not well serviced; it had very, very dirty carpets, small pieces of toilet paper on the carpets, the bathroom trash can was broken, the shower water faucet hook was broken, and the shower drain was clogged! No breakfast and dining service!
We found another hotel in the same neighborhood with much better value and service!

The hotel is situated very close to many of the landmarks in the area, while still being a relatively quiet place. The hotel is also very reachable using almost all forms of transport.
The only disadvantages were that some of the finishings in the hotel were less than expected (minor leaks from pipes, loose nails and screws), and that the hotel is almost impossible to access for those on a wheelchair.

I stayed for 4 nights great location 2 min far from istiklal street and its next to the metro station ,staff were very friendly and helpful the things i don’t like at first they gave us a dirty and small room with no light in the bathroom we informed them they changed it but to a smaller one , no kettles inside the room ,no place to put our luggage ,the hotel need a bit renovation in the rooms

The hotel is in a great location, close to all tourist attractions and amazing for night outs. The customer service from the reception staff (Serhat and Bilal) is wonderful. They’re super friendly and helpful.
The only issue is that the rooms are a little outdated and need a little fresh if up! The shower was clogged up and the water would not drain properly which made taking shower difficult as it would overflow.
I definitely recommend this hotel and with a little work in the rooms and fixing shower, it would be an exceptional place to stay!

Service was friendly and the location was good for my purposes but everything else left a lot to be desired. The room I checked into was tiny. No storage. Little more than a bed. A bar across the room counted for a closet. I asked for a better room and they moved me to one slightly larger but still very small. Design made no sense. No hooks anywhere for robes or towels. The closet doors did not shut and harpooned you when you walked by the narrow contours of the room. When I asked about what the staff could do to fix it, someone came by and put a rubber band around the knobs. A rubber band. Hello? Then the noise. I had to use earplugs to get any rest. Overall not a good value for the money and lots of better options around.

The hotel entry was a little hard to find. The pictures are framed well but the hotel is very old. The walls were bulging out and cracked. Room was tiny but we eventually found the AC as it was stuffy. It does the job and front desk staff was nice. Best thing about the place is the location. Only a 5 min walk to Galata tower. Very cute neighborhood.

Some of the tourist advise was a bit off the mark - in terms of transit and time, but that is to be expected in a city where the options and traffic change seasonally. The hotel itself was charming, with lovely staff, very clean, very accommodating and beautiful. It is a noisy area of town - no hotel will be quiet in this area - so this is less a review of the hotel and more a point to note. Wifi is not great, but I don't know what hotels of this standard and price do.

The rooms are super small and there is no coffee maker in the room. But there is one way the lobby and if you need hot water for tea, the staff will gladly help you. I knew how to speak Turkish but if you don't, you might have difficulty communicating since the staff know little to no English. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was great and you will get the ocean view and the city view from the breakfast area. Close to Galatasaray tower. Close to Taksim and waling distance to Grand Bazar and dolmbace palace. The location is great almost walking distance to everywhere if you like walking. Over all staff and cleanness of the hotel gets 5 star.

The Galata antique hotel is in a great spot on the better side of Istanbul (Galata side- Karaköy and Beyoğlu). The hotel is conveniently located near Şişane metro, the tünel (underground cable car between Karaköy and Beyoğlu) as well as Istakel caddesi- there are great cafés near by, such as Mado and Noir Pit. I would thoroughly recommend wandering around the streets near Galata Antique hotel and the Galata tower as this is an quirky part of Istanbul that is at times overlooked by tourists.
The hotel staff are friendly and helpful, and were always happy to assist me.
The hotel rooms were perfect for me (single traveller) although couples may find the room a bit tight. The beds are firm, not soft, so it may take some adjusting if you sleep on a soft bed.

Stayed here 2 times and did not disappoint me. If you are looking for a boutique hotel at very nice area, this is the best. You can spend 2 days by just wandering around the hotel. Only disadvantage is the noise coming from bars especially at Friday/Saturday nights. Staff is very friendly, cleaning is very good. Definitely would stay here again next time.. Good value

Situated in one of my favorite locations, which is convenient for tourism and nightlife. A small hotel with nice historic features and style, which has all one needs for a brief trip, or a base for a weekend stay.
It is, however, showing signs of tiredness and needs a lick of paint and a clean of stained carpets would not go a miss. If the price is right, then these features should not dissuade a bargain seeker too much.

The hotel has an excellent location, however, rooms are a bit small and requires update and carpets are dingy and curtains are old, TV is so small 17 or 19 inch. On the good side bed is comfortable and pillows are excellent. No water is supplied in the room like most hotels in Istanbul and no clothes closet. I would use the hotel for a night stop maximum but not for a long stay.

The receptionist was very nice but he forgot to wake me up in the morning and call a taxi to go airport.
After paying the two last nights the receptionist did not give any document justficative and forgot to give the invoice in the morning or email it to me.

Best location in the European side
This hotel is extremely well located. You can find a metro stop around the corner (5meters) its in the lovely neighborhood of Taksim, and the biggest shopping street takes one minute. Furthermore all the sight seeing activities can also find very nearby. The hotel staff are very friendly.

I've stayed at the Galata Antique four times -- this time with my daughter as a graduation present for her -- and I've never been disappointed. It's perfectly located at the foot of Istaklal Street, the busy walking street that runs up to Taksim Square, and close to the Metro line and to the Tunnel subway that connects to the Tramway -- you can get anywhere on transit that is comfortable, timely and fun.
The hotel's furnishings are modest and rooms small but it has a wonderfully helpful staff, decent breakfast, excellent AC, and good windows that shut out the party atmosphere that sometimes develops outside.
Most of all, it is close to terrific restaurants, a gentrified bohemian neighbourhood, wonderful museums, and to that terrific transit system. (Get an "Istanbul card" and load it with 25 Turkish Lira -- you get 10 rides on any of the systems, for about 70 cents each.)
I recommended the place for my son and his wife on their honeymoon. They loved it.

Hotel is perfectly located just across the Sishane subvay station and few steps down from Tunel on a very quiet street. Taksim Square, Galata Tower and Istklal are on a walking distance. Old city is reachable easily via Tunel and than tramvay.

The hotel is very well located in a beautiful XIX century building, in a very active and pleasant neighbourhood. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the price seemed to be fair. The terrace where we had a breakfast was really beautiful and had an astonishing view.
Unfortunately, the room cleanliness was far from being the best.
The carpet covering the floor was quite dirty, one of the towels had a very disgusting stain and the shower door looked as it hasn't been cleaned for a long time.
It seems as the hotel had a lot of potencial but it was very badly driven.

Simply amazing in every way....
That was one of our best experiences in traveling .....Istanbul is an amazing city whatever is your taste...it is diversified and myeterious in a way... Fully loaded with art and culture... Singing ,dancing and living like turkish.... Transportation are easy and fun specially that they combine boats .... We have seen Dolphins when we were crossing from Karakoy to kadikoy...the city has many secrets to reveal....we also went to a flea market in Sisly on Sunday which was really interesting where we met some remarkable people there....

Great location. Very convenient to places like Taksim Square and Karakoy and Old Istanbul, as well as many shopping areas and restaurants. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful when it came to helping me get a taxi and other things. The complimentary breakfast on the top floor of the hotel was great, too, with a nice view. The only drawback is that the room is pretty small and so is the shower area. The carpet was also a little stained, but the bed is very comfortable, and the blackout curtains were great. But we were there to experience the city anyway, not hang out in our hotel room.

Although the Galata Antique hotel has relatively small rooms, it turned out fine, even for someone like me who does not travel lightly. The air con was great, the room clean and more importantly the staff were some of the best I've come across. There wasn't anything they couldn't help us with and their friendly approach and plentiful information knew no bounds. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Plus, the location is ideal to gain easy access to all parts of the city.

Galata Antique was phenomenal. We had an amazing stay. The personnel were very attentive and nice. Our room had an amazing view of the city. The breakfast was tasty and it was accompanied by views of the city many restaurants lack themselves. Veryclose to the metro, Galata toeer, Galata bridge, taxi stand and many cafes, restaurants. I stayed at the Galata Antique hotel for two nights and would definitely recommend it, it is good value for money, centrally located close to Istiklal street and the Metro and has a nice boutique hotel feel to it. It has a roof terrace with great views across roof tops to Sultanahmet and the Golden Horn.

The staff are very pleasant, the location is quite central. A bit loud at night as there are several bars etc. lots to see and do near by... Breakfast was basic and authentic, room was basic (a bit small) but comfortable and clean. Great location if you are a member of soho house and can use their amenities otherwise I would recommend a hotel with a pool and open air roof top as Istanbul gets quite hot in the sunmer

If you are staying in Istanbul for the first time Galata is an EXCELLENT location. Great restaurants, shops & where all the locals come to dine and have fun.
Do not stay on the other side of the river. It is a tacky tourist trap. This is much more chic and authentic and with great and easy access to transport Galata is only 15-20min to the main tourist sites of Istanbul.

Excellent service. Delicious Turkish breakfast on the rooftop terrace. New renovation looks lovely. Very convenient to Tram to Taksim as well as Blue Mosque area. Metro a few feet away, easy walk to Galata area, and to buses. Our second stay and will again. Small boutique hotel, unusually friendly, helpful staff. overlooks Golden Horn.

Small, elegant, classy hotel, with a small, beautiful breakfast terrace, filled with a variety of very good food--although not always hot--and a most helpful and pleasant staff. I just wish that my room were not so small and that the desk not so low to the ground, or so small, but I was able to work well in the common room downstairs. Very good location, and warm, excellent staff.

The hotel is very good located...very close to the always crowded Istiklal Street. Close to many restaurants, bars, galata tower and galata bridge.

Extremely unprofessional staff, elevator broke down, electricity went out multiple times for hours (no generator!), internet went off, no hot water, non working shower head, hardly English speaking staff.. When complained first was told to silence as we got a good price according to the hotel's accountant, then when complained to the front desk Manager (Filiz) she said she will give us a discount if we extended the stay, we agreed and paid for it, they walked away from the deal and asked for more money when we got back to the hotel in only couple hours. TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! Stay elsewhere!

This is a wonderful hotel in a very central area of Istanbul, steps away from Istliklal, Galata Tower, the Tunnel which gives you easy access to the Tramway system to take you to Sultanhamet. Great location, nice, helpful staff, good breakfast provided and lots to do in the neighbourhood. My only complaint and it's minor, the carpet in the room could have been cleaner, but again, this is a minor complaint.

Second stay in 2 years. On my first visit they were finishing up the remodel, so the lobby/public areas had yet to be done and were quite warm, I assumed due to the work being done. My room being recently finished was still fresh and with what they were doing with the space overall I felt the hotel had potential, with thought having been put into the design. So, first visit pleasant enough for a return visit.
Second visit left much to be desired. Lobby and public areas now done but still unpleasantly hot, perhaps an a/c design issue? In general the hotel looked ragged, the work completed not holding up well.

A waste of good time when traveling with things to do and see. I had an issue with the in-room safe which I addressed twice with the front desk, with no resolution.

If it was a small Mom & Pop hotel outside of a metropolitan city, then I could understand and possibly find the language barrier charming. Boutique hotel Istanbul
We went on a 4 night trip to Istanbul with 3 other couples, one of whom found this hotel on offer on a travel website. It is really a 'one-night stop- over' hotel, maximum 2 nights as there are NO wardrobes in the bedrooms (even the 2 sizes up from the original standard class room that we up-graded to didn't have any!), only 2 drawers in the dressing table, and bathrooms so small only 1 person at a time could get in it (just about!!). It's a good 40 min walk or taxi ride into the old town & tourist sites & there are no outside or particularly comfy inside areas to relax. Breakfasts were below average & when the 'omelette' arrived, which was the only fresh cooked eggs you could order, it was just scrambled egg! We found the last occupants' dirty socks by the bed & had to request a hoovering (all the carpets were stained around the hotel & badly needed cleaning). A beautiful old building but wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

An elegant boutique hotel in a perfect location
The staff were helpful and friendly. The rooms are what you would expect at an antique hotel, clean and comfortable with touches of classic luxury. The hotel is situated in a perfect location if one wants to take the trams to various parts of town. Located within 100m of two tram stops that will put you in the center of Taksim Square or the Galata Tower. We were close to many restaurants and pubs which made going out at night hassle free. I highly recommend this hotel.

As the title suggests you should choose this hotel depending on what your needs/priorities are. In terms of location and surrounding neighbourhood it is truly a well-situated hotel.
Despite the amazing view from my hotel room and the breakfast area, my room had a few problems. It was clearly a part of the terrace that has been converted into a room. It is quite small with a fake ceiling but most importantly a broken A/C unit (taped around the edges to keep it from falling apart) which made it impossible to provide any heat during the cold days while I was there. Also, in the small bathroom the shower doors made it almost impossible to avoid hitting your head before entering.
I did mention these and some other problems to reception and the duty manager. I was surprised they were not aware of them, especially the heating issue. On the last day the whole hotel was out of hot water. Not their fault, but the issue lingered for hours after the electricity outage in the area had been restored.
This is a hotel that was built in the 1880s. It seems that every renovation attempt has touched more the surface rather than the infrastructure and, at least in my room, this was evident.
I can't say I was completely disappointed overall. But one must admit that quite a few boxes need to be ticked for an experienced traveller to return to a hotel. Great breakfast, view and location are not enough to make me want to return in this case, especially in the winter.
Finally, I would also have liked all shifts at reception to speak English at a level where at least basic transportation or area information could be relayed to the guests.

The hotel is very nice, gorgeous balcony, great breakfast and in a prime location, and has a hotel staff that will go through your things and then strike up conversations with you about your personal items. I do not think it was malicious and nothing was stolen, but it made me extremely uncomfortable and unhappy. Perhaps the concept of privacy was not well understood by our host or he was trying to be friendly, but there is difference between cleaning your room and cleaning the insides of your bags,

A Lovely Hotel Near the Highlights of Istanbul
During a trip to Turkey, our plans changed requiring us to spend two days longer in Istanbul than we planned. The hotel we were staying in was booked for those two nights, forcing us to relocate. We wanted to stay in the general area, the Beyoglu/Taksim district of Istanbul and there is certainly no lack of choices. Finding something both nice and reasonably priced can be. The Galata Antique Hotel caught my eye because my wife tends to enjoy hotels like this. Having nothing but Expedia's information to go on, we took a chance and were delighted by what was there. It is a quite old building, but it has been beautifully restored and has a magnificent view of the Bosphorus. The rooms were large, clean, and beautiful decorated. Breakfast was provided and excellent, and the hotel staff was very capable.

the perfect hotel
It was not our first time at Galata Antique, we have been returning to this hotel since 2006. It is a perfect small boutique hotel with a great location both for sightseeing and business (the underground station is just a few steps away which makes it easy to commute anywhere in European Istanbul) It has a good access to the Asian Side ( ferries in Karakoy) and a car park is a few steps away if you rent a car. The hotel lets you hide from the hassle of the city, it is quiet, it has bright and spacious rooms and unbelievable views from the roof terrace (breakfast is rich and the gentleman who serves it is extremely polite and helpful!) The staff is very kind, aways smiled and ready to solve your problems, the rooms are clean. We liked the decor and the modern style combined with the history and spirit of the old building. Taking the old lift is an unforgettable experience. We stayed there two weeks this summer and felt like home. Around: galleries, bars, restaurants, green grocer's and the sea is just within a walking distance.

Room charmingly furnished and renovated but lacking basics like shelves, drawers and hooks on the doors. Insufficient electric sockets. Immaculately clean, Very charming, helpfull staff. Excellent breakfast in roof terrace with Bospherous views. Adjacent to metro, funicular railway, main shopping streets, restaurants. Short walk to Galata Tower and all Pera sights. Unfortunately there is a building site alongside but our room overlooked it and we weren't bothered as there was little activity. Will return.

We really liked the hotel and the area. While the rooms are small, they were clean and modern. However, there is still major construction on a building directly next to the hotel. Our window faced this site, and it was very, very loud. Maybe it would be better in a room on the opposite side of the hotel?

Construction!!
The Galata Antique Hotel is charming and quaint. Its in the fantastic Galata neighborhood. Lots of restaurants, shopping and bars. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. At the writing of this review (March 2013) there was a government building going up next door to the hotel. This construction went 24 hrs a day! Absolutely no way for us to sleep through this. We had to move hotels 3 days in which really negatively impacted our stay in Istanbul. I'm sorry to say it because I know they are suffering because of the noise. Its having a terrible impact on their business. I was told by staff that it could go on for another year. Do yourself a favor. Stay away from the immediate surroundings.

great location except the loud construction site
the next door building is currently under construction and probably will be for a few more months (years?) as a new building is being build up. the loud construction noise was very disturbing during the day. the hotel should have at least warned on their website that this is going on and it is hard to understand why they are still charging full price despite this inconvenience...we would not have booked it, would have have known. furthermore, we wanted to check out late and while the hotel was very empty during the off-season, hotel clerk was neither willing to offer late check out, nor were we offered a place to shower after check-out. on the positive site, the attic room is nicely decorated (although with decaying wallpaper) and has a great view (although very small in size), cleaning service was good and breakfast was ok. the location is of course great.
