The hotel is located just minutes from Junction 18 on the M4. Old Sodbury is surrounded by the beautiful Cotswold countryside, with Bath and Bristol close by.

The hotel is also convenient for the Badminton Horse Trials and Castle Combe Motor Racing Circuit. It is just 32 km to Bristol railway station.

Bristol Airport is some 44 km away, Cardiff Airport is about 94 km away and London Heathrow Airport is approximately 149 km from the hotel. This charming old posting house dates back to the 14th century and these days attracts a diverse crowd of guests, including country lovers, horse racing fans, motor racers, golfers and young couples.

The Queen sought shelter here during a blizzard in 1981. Those who enjoy a bit of spooky history might like to know that the cellars were once used to house convicted criminals, sentenced to death by 'Bloody' Judge Jeffreys.

Lovely old pub for our 1 night stay.
Rooms were clean and tidy and nice bar facilities downstairs.
Meals were good and the dessert tasting plate went down really well.

It’s a bit remote, so you’ll need a car to get to see places. Not great for walking either due to lack of pavements. There isn’t local shops within walking distance. We drove to Castle Combe about 8 miles away. We paid for bed and breakfast - Despite having a hot breakfast menu in the room and on the breakfast tables, they were not serving cooked breakfast when we stayed. Just a basic continental breakfast.

The food was really good, especially the breakfast but that was the only positive.
The room that I was allocated ( room 6) looked good if dated, with lots of sockets but no USB charging points, it had a huge bed which was too soft for me but would suit others and that’s when it went down hill. There was a noise every 30 seconds or so like the room above me was flushing its toilets. I thought it would eventually stop but no. In the end I asked for a change of room and was asked if I had touched anything? Been there a couple of hours so yes I had. The new room although smaller was much better, still could hear a noise but imperceptible unless you were already listening for it. Again no USB points but comfortable. The en-suite was a wet room type and almost flooded during my 3 minute shower and left pools of water on the floor, so I had to put towels on the floor to brush my teeth after breakfast, which as I said was highlight.

Pros- lots of free parking, able to eat dinner and breakfast if needed, nice sized family room, good shower.

Cons- uncomfortable bed really needs new matteress, sofa bed needs replacing not at all comfortable. Staff noisey in the mornings in private room opposite.

The property in a beautiful ancient coaching inn. The pub downstairs is friendly, the food and drinks are like any Greene King pub so it's well priced and good. Breakfast is cheaper if bought on the room. There is a choice of buffet or buffet+hot. Both are nice. Inevitably the property shows some signs of age. Definitely ready for some paint touch up. However that is part of the charm. The floors upstairs are rarely flat due to hundreds of years of settlement. We had a fabulous time with three generations of family over New Year.

All staff couldn’t do enough, they were excellent however they need more of them. Hotel is very dated now and need updating, room wasn’t very clean, marks on curtains, windows and some of the walls on the room, water taps are very loud on the room, the room next door used theirs in the middle of the night and woke me up.

Pros: staff were friendly, the hotel was lovely, bedroom was old but it had a great feel, bathroom was clean tidy and everything in the room that you needed was there. The grounds of the hotel was picturess and beautiful, the building itself was beautiful and an old coach house
Negative: The food unfortunately was a major let down!! The steak was well over done even thou we requested medium, the mac & cheese had been pre cooked and warmed up in microwave and not eatable. The starter chicken strips was fine but there was no dips, no side garnish, just a bowl of chicken. The squid had no taste, and was very little in the bowl, there was more garnish then anything else
The pudding was ok it was eatable but not worth the money

Excellent staff, breakfast and evening meal really good.Only problem was last night I stayed was woken up at 0230 by noise from room above only stopped about 0630 mentioned it to staff.Was told it was kitchen managers room and he had some problems sounded like he was retiling the roof.Didnt need that with a 300 mile drive home.

Wonderful staff!

Personable staff-charming and attentive to all our needs. We had everything we needed in our stop walking the Cotswold Way. We had 13 different hotels along the way and with this one it was the staff that made it a great stay.

Wheres the Manager

I was avaged by bed bugs and offered another room which was the same. I had very little sleep. Told to speak to the manager in the morning. Went to reception to be told by duty manager there was no manager on duty. Then one appeared. House keeping told me I looked like I had an allergic reaction. I have no allergies. I felt like I was being ushered out the door. To be fair the assistant manager was trying but DM and housekeeper spoke over him and myself until I insisited they listen. No report filled in and when I said they said they would do it. There was no re assutrance that this would be dealt with at all.

I stayed two weeks ago and it was ok but this was awful

Relaxing stay and delicious food

We had a lovely 3 night stay with friendly helpful staff.
Hot breakfast was cooked individually to order and would swap things around to suit you. I had read about slow service but if you aren't in a rush the pace is relaxed.
Nice old building but good modern bathroom.
The only downside was wanting to sit outside as there was not a handle to get back in and some people kept shutting the door tight.

I passed over that, and also found that the chef was also the waiter, and he and a manager, who was possibly the cleaner, were the only staff on duty. They were very friendly and helpful despite that they were obviously rushed off their feet. They deserved a medal.

Free parking, so big that local vintage car club used it as meeting point. Enjoyed the duck for dinner and cooked breakfast in the morning. Room was bigger than expected, clean and quiet. Some parts looked like they needed redecorating but it is an old coaching inn. Only ten minutes from Dyrham Park.

Lovely staff and a clean room however it felt very dated, the furniture and decor in our room were very dark for the room and dated. The bathroom looked lovely and recently redone but the shower hose was gold which didn’t match the silver fittings and was also degrading.

Just a great, authentic British Pub Inn with delicious food and great service both in the restaurant and the Inn.

If you check back, I stayed here a year ago.
It wasn't so good. But a year later and new owners and my god what a change.
Parking is great.
Met by welcoming staff.
I had my usual room and it had been redecorated and now the windows open, no longer painted closed.
Lovely powerful shower.
Last year the evening meal was terrible, tiny portions and over priced.
But with the new owners they have turned it around. I had a lovely evening meal at a good price. Mon to Fri they have deals on two & three course meals and they are fantastic deals, you need to look.
I had my breakfast this morning and it was good to see they hadn't changed the gentleman on shift. He is a credit to the owners, so cheerful and helpful. Fingers crossed he's still there next year.
So yes, I will definitely be using this establishment again next year, in fact I have already booked my usual room there ☺️ One happy customer.

Old school hotel with friendly staff. Good, reasonably priced evening meal. Breakfast is good quality but sooooo slow. Over 50 minutes from ordering to getting my eggs benedict, despite chasing twice. That’s too slow particularly for a weekday morning. Early warning and suggestion of faster alternatives would have been appreciated.

Looks worn out and sad. Very noisy, everything creaked and groaned. Could hear people above and both sides. When someone had a shower sounded like they were in the room with you magnified 10 times. Someone had tv/ radio on from the time I arrived until 11.30 pm, very irritating. Bed very comfortable. For a single room bathroom was a decent size. Breakfast, continental, was really good. Staff polite and very helpful.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at an incredible 700-year-old coach house turned inn, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Lovely Friendly Hotel

Being an old building it has plenty of character throughout. Rooms are clean and well equipped.
Its is close to a main road junction and has easy access to the M4, although it was close to the main road, you don't hear the traffic noise from the rooms.
It has plenty of car parking.
Food is freshly cooked and very good with plenty of different options to choose from.
Good choice of drinks (including draught) to choose from.

I've stayed here numerous times over the 13 years,seen a lot of changes.
Ive never really had a bad experience.
A massive carpark and it's free to use
Always a quick check-in and information given .
Most rooms are a good size except for the single room
Shower rooms are on the compact size though
Beds are super comfortable
WiFi has improved and is good
Showers ate Always hot and powerful.
Breakfast not always included but could add if wanted.
Evening meals are good and good vaule
Though the menu seems to be getting smaller!
Location is next to a busy junction with nothing else close by but some lovely walks would stay again when in the area

We have been to this hotel several times but it is starting to get tired. Staff were friendly but very busy - less around than previous visits.
Our room had no electricity initially but this was quickly sorted. Then we had not hot water so cold / no shower before dinner. We heard later was the whole hotel. Again this was sorted overnight so could have shower next morning.

This pub is in need of a complete overhaul, new management just taken over and work starting soon.
Food in Restraunt was excellent with great choices, recommend the steak and ale pie. Breakfast very good value with many options available.
The rooms are very dark and tired with most if not all being on the main road. No a/c and rooms very warm, difficult balance whether window open for cool breeze but then noisy from road traffic.
Be aware that the front door should always be available to use after closing, however we were locked out because of an issue with the mechanism and out of hours contact number not answered by duty night manager.

We checked in and on arrival we where told breakfast was between 7.00 am & 10.00 am
So that was fine but on the Saturday we wanted breakfast at 7.00 as we where showing dogs in a dog show at Bath
Only to be told breakfast was between 8.00 and 10.00 on a weekend
So we had to miss breakfast As we had to leave at 8.00 am

Room was good although very squeaky floorboards making a lot of noise in the night using the bathroom. The main problem was breakfast on the last morning, we asked for Apple juice and was told they had run out, ok there was a substitute, then there was the fruit we were told again they had run out, with out even checking, the icing on the cake was the pastries, we asked for them because we had had them on other days, only to be told there are 16 guests and there are 16 pastries once they are gone there are no more, when I said what happens if people have more than one the answer was they run out quicker. I relayed this to another lady that worked there just before we left called Donna, she was devastated by the comments and said had she been on duty she would have said can you wait 20mins and then would have put some in the oven. One member of staff ruined the break.

It was a very comfortable room, but a litte dated and scruffy round the edges. the staff were all really good - cheerful (moslty!) and friendly which helps a lot. I had a room on the ground floor which opened into the car park so wasn't keen on leaving the window open - it didn't have a lock 'airing' mode, but not a big deal. It felt safe enough. Food options were ecellent and the meal I had was great value for money.
