The room was in the basement which I was not aware upon booking so it obviously didn’t have a window other than a fake one.
But the main issue was the noise next to the room which sounded like a large washing machine on spin cycle and woke me up at 05:30 in the morning!
Also the self check-in is awful.

The self checkin is unwelcoming and unnecessary. There was an alarm going off in the next door room at 6.45am and continued despite someone from reception coming to deal with it at 6.55am. The bed was uncomfortable - the mattress sank into the middle. Nice big room but not worth the money.

It's the little things that make a stay, this place lacked those. No conditioner or shampoo. First Hotel in years over 3 continents that haven't supplied these basic items. We paid for 2 breakfasts knowing we had to leave early on the second day. No offer of a 'to go' breakfast or remove the one breakfast charge. Most places will do this little thing. So, average.

Great location, but the facade of the building is very nondescript and can easily be missed when driving. There is very little are or available area to pull out of traffic to unload, so be prepared to move quickly and please know large bags will be a detriment. Staff was incredibly welcoming and efficient. Hotel was clean, spacious room, gym was well equipped, and at check we paid for parking for a significant discount at the nearby City Hall parking garage. Overall very pleased. My only issue involved regulating the thermostat as the front desk managed it by timer and the amount to which you could regulate the temperature.

I recently stayed at the Maldron Hotel South Mall Cork City and booked an Executive King room. Upon check-in with Valeria, we went to our room only to find a double bed, despite having paid extra for a king (€80 more). When I returned to the front desk, Magdalene insisted I hadn’t booked a king room and even suggested I “be more careful when booking next time.” She initially said nothing could be done. After I pressed the issue, she reluctantly switched us to another room with the proper king bed.

Out of curiosity, I later checked their website and confirmed what I already suspected: there is no “super king” option—only double and king rooms. I brought this up again, and Valeria confirmed that I had in fact booked a king room, though she could not explain why her colleague had told me otherwise. Unfortunately, the entire exchange left me feeling misled and disappointed, especially since it seemed possible they were trying to hold rooms back for a large tour group arriving at the same time.

Beyond this, both rooms we saw were poorly cleaned, the air conditioning did not function properly, and there was visible mold in the shower.

Overall, the lack of service, questionable handling at the front desk, and poor room conditions overshadowed any positives. Sadly, I would not stay at this property again and cannot recommend Maldron Hotels to others.

We booked a regular room for two but received a wheel chair accessible room which was not our choice. The bigger issue was a nasty clogged shower drain which the hotel maintenance person was not able to fix. Before leaving our room, he told us that the management would help with changing the room for us. After waiting for a while for someone to call us, we went downstairs to find out that there were no other available rooms and the front desk repeated to us that the attempt to fix the shower drain was made and this was the best that the hotel could do for us. We ended up finding another manager who got us a new room - another wheel chair accessible room. That room’s bathroom was fine but we made a mistake throwing the decorative pillows on top of the tv cabinet and immediately saw how dust filled the entire room. At that point we just gave up because all we wanted was to get into a bed and sleep. The next morning we departed early. We do not recommend this hotel.

Good sized room but was pretty stuffy. Couldn’t have window open and ac on at same time and couldn’t get comfortable at night. Don’t know if it’s normal but may want to avoid Saturday. There was some sort of punk concert venue nearby. Noise went on till midnight. Could hear it through closed windows and my head under a pillow. That was pretty obnoxious. Did laundry through hotel. Pretty quick next day service. There were some events going on at hotel and the hallways were loud late two nights we were there.

We reserved two rooms months earlier. We ended up in a handicapped room and apparently if you don’t want a handicapped room you have to request it when you reserve. The gentlemen at the desk offered to change rooms and give us a windowless room in the basement, stating that was the best they could do. I refused and finally another member of the staff arranged a different room for us. For the remainder of our stay we were not acknowledged at all. The second room for our travel companions smelled of cat urine and had no heat. They were moved the second day to a room that had no a/c and although they were told it would be fixed it never was. The location is very handy, parking is a few blocks from the hotel, the property has a coffee shop and restaurant.

Small things, no tissue in the room, bathroom sink didn’t drain properly! I did inform the staff.

However the parking was a nightmare, not only was there no pull in to drop our luggage, we had to walk to a parking garage a couple blocks away! I understand that it is not the hotels fault however additional details or a message prior to check-in would have been appreciated.
The front desk staff were lovely, and took it upon themselves to come outside and assist with our luggage and take it directly to our room, also made a lovely recommendation for dinner as well.

Clean comfortable modern property that was in a great location, nearby the Victorian Quarter, St Patrick’s street and the English Market. My reason for 4 over 5 stars is that we didn’t have amenities such as body soap or shampoo. The only container that had anything was the hand soap. Also, the staff was really nice but weren’t equipped to provide basic recommendations in the area, like best pubs and restaurants. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend.

We had to switch rooms due to a strong mold smell and hair and trash found behind the curtains. The second room, right next door, was slightly better, but the bathroom had a funky odor. It was also very noisy, as the room shook every time neighbors opened or closed their doors. To make things worse, cigarette smoke drifted in whenever the windows were open, since staff were smoking directly below. On top of that, the hotel is located on a busy street with constant traffic and construction noise, making it difficult to get any rest. Staff were great and helpful.

The hotel was Ok overall. There were good and bad points.
There was a great selection of food available for breakfast - self service. And lots of gluten free options for my son.
But the rooms were expensive, the view was awful and the pillow was stained. There is only space for 4 cars parking for 15mins for drop off outside. The reduced overnight parking at a nearby car park was a good discount though. There were electric car chargers at the carpark too.
The online check in was pointless for a family stay, confusing and just seemed to be there to upsell you things for your stay that you probably don’t need. In my case it encouraged me to buy breakfast even though I’d paid for that with the original booking. Thankfully the hotel have refunded me the additional payments.

The hotel’s location is fantastic — central, convenient, and walkable to everything we needed. That alone made our stay manageable. However, several issues would make me choose a different place next time, especially given how many other hotel options are in the area.

The biggest downside was the noise. The building seems to be constructed in a way that every door closing or slamming echoed loudly into our room, even late at night. It made it difficult to fully relax or get a solid night’s sleep.

Temperature control was also a problem. The thermostat in our room was broken, so we had to rely on the front desk to adjust it remotely, which never actually set it to a comfortable level. It always felt off —way too cool — and we had no way to fix it ourselves.

Cleanliness was another concern. While nothing was outright filthy, it clearly hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly. My son was playing with Legos on the floor and kept getting other people’s hair tangled in the wheels — more than once. That’s something that shouldn’t happen in any hotel room.

Finally, for what the hotel offers, it felt overpriced. The amenities didn’t match the rate, especially compared to what else is available nearby.

All in all, while the location is excellent, the noise, temperature issues, and lack of cleanliness mean I wouldn’t stay here again. With so many options in the area, it’s worth looking elsewhere.

Cork itself is a gritty city. There is no way this hotel is a 4⭐️. I’ve seen a hotel before that had a “check in kiosk”. Rooms were basic- no toiletries in the room. Shampoo and conditioner were in bottles hung on the wall in the shower. Daily made service was incomplete and poorly done. Staff themselves were lovely and very helpful. I would not stay here again and I would not recommend it. Poor value - almost $1200 CAD for 3 nts. Not worth it.

There were major problems at this Maldron hotel. I note mainly the AC. If the window is open, the AC doesn’t work - that’s entirely ok. EXCEPT the AC doesn’t work with the window closed either - and indeed the room was extremely hot and stuffy - easily the worst night’s sleep in 10 days in Ireland. Also, the lighting malfunctioned. The room card had to be left in the key slot for lights to be on - this was fine, except that one bright light refused to turn off. The Front Desk person visited our room and confirmed that the light could not be turned off. His solution was to take key out of slot. He said this would not affect the AC. And indeed it didn’t affect the AC because the AC never worked anyway.

The best thing about the hotel was that 2 workers at the restaurant, one from Ukraine and another country, were so hospitable and helpful. Other than these two staff members (and the desk person who tried but failed to fix the lighting), the hotel staff was basically unfriendly and unhelpful. Charitably, I concluded that they might be good people - just not people with people skills, but regardless - they were unhelpful. Oh, and we paid for Executive Room with king bed - every hotel room should be good, but especially rooms for which premium price is charged. When in Cork, stay elsewhere!

Booked a double bed room for 2 days, checked in and unpacked then found out AC wasn't working!!
They finally moved us to 2 separate rooms with king bed that was not acceptable since we have 2 children with us!! Then next day we left out for the day upon returning we found out our keys stop working on purpose so we can go to the front desk thats where we found out we have to move into a 2 bed room that we originally booked that all could have been fine only if someone has told us in advance!! Horrible service by Michael who looks like he doesn't belongs in the hospitality industry!! All he cared about us give up the rooms so they can sell the rooms!! And yes the 1st room beds smell like someone has urinate in it, will not come back to any of their properties ever again

This Hotel was Excellent! We booked two rooms for two nights each, to be able to enjoy Cork. When I booked them, I wasn't sure if both rooms would be King beds, because of the description. But turns out that they have a King, and a Super King (apparently a super King is just a little larger than the King) So that worked out great for all of us. The Maldron has a great staff, so professional, whether it was the front desk, room service, the dining areas or the bar. The hotel looked brand new, the rooms were spotless the bathrooms were great- we loved the \"rain shower\". The beds were SO Comfortable! The pricing was great also. The Maldron (South Mall), is just around the corner from streets filled with really great restaurants, shopping, wine bars, pastry/coffee shops etc. Parking is available through them 24/7, but not on site. We chose to park at the Mall because we didn't need our car in the evening, or till after 8am when the garage opens. But check the hours first! Everything we needed was within walking distance from the Maldron. Great Hotel, great area for food right around the corner from it! Highly recommend!
