Been one of my favourite hotels in Cork since it opened but think it’s changed management recently or at least had a bit of a shake up as the experience this time didn’t feel the same.

The beds have always been of fairly awful standard with 2 singles pushed together to make a double but they are now really showing their age and have become very uncomfortable and noisy. The bedrooms no longer have the custom dressing gowns that used to be a nice touch and the steam room in the thermal suite was also out of order for our stay. We also sadly didn’t have our room cleaned despite it being vacated at lunch time and our TV had 3 lines across the centre of the monitor.

It’s a truly fantastic venue with great staff and I still really love the gym and thermal suite but I’m not sure I would rate the hotel rooms and stay at 4 stars any longer.

First time staying in The Dean in Cork, was expecting high hopes, but unfortunately it disappointed me!
Given a room that should only be used as a single occupancy room! I felt very claustrophobic and confined!
The layout of the room was completely all over the place!
Service at breakfast was chaotic on both days!
Definitely no WOW FACTOR HERE!!!

When staying at this hotel make sure you ask for the opposite side to Railway station. Stayed for 1 night & distribution from railway station throughout the night & early hours of the morning, impact quality of sleep. Hotel overall is lovely but quality of sleep is poor. They provided earplugs in room , which don’t help at all.

Our stay Started off very strong. But failed at the service in the hotels restaurant. Very very slow. Other customers received their drinks and food well before us and then we were rushed out. The bed also was two twin size beds pushed together to create a king size. This was not desirable or described in the room description. Location however, very convenient. Just wished the room and service was better.

Modern and newer hotel. The shower was the best!!!! And while the room was small, it was comfortable and offered all we needed. We enjoyed breakfast one morning and it was delicious as was the fresh coffee. We also stayed for dinner one evening….wonderful pizza!!! The location is ideal for train travel, as the station is next door, but you never heard a bit of evidence that it was. A nice walk into Cork city center for sites like the English Market and the Cathedral. I would certainly stay at The Dean in Cork again. Thank you.

Loved the hotel itself- new, modern and felt like such a nice getaway! Our one (main) downside would be the location right next to the train station- the train horns and brakes were LOUD and came and left quite frequently. They left late into the night and started early morning, thus impacting a great night sleep. Nice for proximity of getting to/ from the train station, but keep in mind the noise! Otherwise we found the area to be fairly walkable, and enjoyed exploring the English market area!

We stayed here a year and a half ago, and it was awesome. This time I was so disappointed in it. We walked into reception and the music was so loud we couldn’t even hear the person checking us in. I booked a “super” room and what we got was a super SMALL room with hardly any amenities. Information I received about the car park was completely inaccurate.
Breakfast this morning was disappointing as well. Service was slow, no one checked on us after the food was delivered. I don’t see us ever staying here again.

This hotel was amazing, the staff was friendly and professional… And completely helpful. Jesus provided lots of useful information for us so we had a good time at the local places. The hotel is conveniently located, the only bad part is they don’t have parking, but they do have a parking lot next to the train station that’s close by. The building itself is fantastic… And the highlight was Sophie, which is the restaurant at the top of the hotel. It provides an amazing view. And our server David was extremely friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about the area. He made our experience wonderful. We highly recommend this hotel, this will always be our hotel when we visit Cork.

The rooms and all common aread are charming, super clean, and have great amenities. Every interaction with the staff was great. The lobby bar and rooftop terrace restaurant were exceptional. Breakfast at Sophie’s on the rooftop is a must! The location is great with perfect access to the train, car parking, busses and a very vibrant business district. I can’t recommend The Dean Cork highly enough. I would come back to Cork just to stay here.

Had a fantastic time at The Dean - two nights to celebrate my partners birthday and it was very special. We really enjoyed the use of the facilities (gym, pool, sauna/steam) and had a delicious dinner at Sophie’s up on the top floor.

This is a very new modern Hotel which is located very close to the train station which is great for travelers.
The location also accommodated for reasonable walking distance getting to the mainstreets of the City Primary dining and Pubs.
The hotel decor was very upbeat & modern. My room unfortunately faced the tracks so I heard the rail noises. The hotel did provide ear plugs.
I like the fact that there was a bar lounge on the main lobby as well as a Restaurant at the top. The food I ordered was very good. However I did note that it's primarily a pizza serving menu. The Waiting and Bar staff were really friendly.
The room size was decent the bed was comfortable. There was plenty of in-room items for purchase including the bar fridge which was a nice perk for accessibility.
Price range was a bit high, failing to realize the cruise ships coming in. August being in the peak of tourist season.

Overpriced and overrated

Having heard rave reviews of the Dean, I was looking forward to my stay. We arrived and the check-in was easy.
We had booked a super room primarily for the king size bed, yes to look at it you’d think it was a king size, but it was 2 single beds pushed together! Needless to say, the king fitted sheet didn’t do much to keep the beds together, at 1 stage, I thought my partner had fallen between the 2 beds!!
The size of the room…cramped… if we had larger suitcases than hand luggage size, we’d be in trouble, even with small suitcases, there was no space to keep them.
We came back after the 2nd day to find the room hadn’t been cleaned and had to ask reception at 9.30pm to sort it out.
Booked the restaurant for the 1st evening, was nice but after 45 mins waiting for our food, I think anything would be nice.
We only ate breakfast on the last morning, it was nice but slightly overpriced.
The positives though…The staff particularly at the bar were an absolute pleasure to deal with.

This hotel is great. I had previously stayed in their other hotel in Dublin, so I was keen to get back. The staff is extremely friendly and kind. We had a little issue with our room, as the rail workers decided to drill at 1am and they promptly moved us to another room. The gym is superb, new machines and clean. The pool is nice too. Brekkie and food in general are a bit pricey and not over the moon, but the bar is a great spot to hang around, with nice views from Cork.

The rooms were spotless, and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful or kind. They were very knowledgeable and even shared great tips about the places we wanted to visit. The beds were comfortable, and the showers were excellent. If you need an iron, just ask, they’ll bring it up right away. We also enjoyed the sauna, which felt amazing, and the pool, which was relaxing and pleasant. The Sophi restaurant was fantastic if you want something light but tasty get the vegetable soup (it was absolutely delicious), and the breakfast was outstanding. Can’t wait to come back!

Loved how convenient the hotel was to the train station and to the pick up spot for buses to/from Dublin, as well as the sightseeing daytrip buses. The rooms and lobby are very well designed and beautiful, with fun touches like Smeg fridges and record players in the rooms. Unfortunately the record player in my room didn't work, and I was told by the receptionist that they are \"transitioning to being just for show\" which is a nice way of saying \"not being maintained\". Overall it feels like a very nice hotel that's a few years into its life and those flashy touches are starting to show signs of age.

This was a beautiful, modern hotel with comfortable bedding, great food and drinks. Everyone was super friendly. I wouldve given it a 5 star if it wasnt for the handicapped bathroom. We got assigned what looked to be a handicapped room. Even though it was a gorgeously designed bathroom, it wasnt functional for us. There was water everywhere. We had to dry up the floors after every shower. And, the worst thing... theres a full length mirror right across the toilet! No one wants to see themselves fully when sitting in the potty! Other than that, it was perfect.

Disappointing Stay — Definitely Not 4-Star Quality

The Dean Cork looks stylish at first glance, but the experience didn’t live up to expectations. Parking was inconvenient and far from the hotel, with no vouchers or discounts provided. The location next to the train station meant constant noise throughout the day and night, making it hard to relax.

Our bathroom was clearly not cleaned properly — the floors had dried pink residue and what looked like old urine splatters near the toilet. A quick wipe with a damp cloth removed the mystery liquid, which made it clear that the floors hadn’t been mopped. The tea kettle had leftover liquid with floating debris, and the TV didn’t work, leaving us with no way to drown out the noise outside.

While the gym looked nice, it was missing a few essential machines — still usable, but limited. The complimentary drinks also seemed to be missing any actual alcohol.

Unfortunately, this hotel feels more like a trendy facade than a truly comfortable or well-maintained 4-star experience.

Stayed four nights for a wedding early July 2025. Nice reception and rooftop bar and convenient for walking to downtown Cork. Parking was at train station next door and seemed safe enough but I think we got lucky finding an empty space and we did not move the car after parking it.

Room was quite small but the major issue is that there is nowhere to unpack! There were 5 small pegs to hang suit and dresses (picture a piece of wood with pegs that you might use to hang keys near your front door) but nowhere to unpack anything else. Room was not big enough to have suitcases undone on floor so it really was a bit of a mess trying to get to clean clothes etc.

There was a vinyl record player and Bluetooth speaker on the small table with a couple of records. If you like them it might be a nice touch but in reality it just took up most of the table so that there was even less available space!

Shower and sink were slow to drain and shower actually overflowed after a couple of minutes. Spoke to reception and said that someone would be in to fix them. Went back in the afternoon and sink was better but shower not fixed. We had left towels on the floor to mop up the water and they were still there hours later. Complained and by we returned from dinner it had been fixed.

Overall, not a great experience for average of ~260 USD/night. Would not recommend. Family and friends stayed at Premiere Inn down the road and their rooms had more space for less money.

Style over Substance

I'm writing this to share information so people can decide if The Dean is right for them.
The focus seems to be on appearance over the practical. The room lacked storage so my luggage was kept on the couch (which wasn't angled towards anything eg TV or a table anyway) and my laptop, make-up etc had to be left out on the desk rather than put away (i had to move the obsolete turntable to make space as it took up almost half the surface). The spot where a set of drawers would sit is occupied by a fridge stocked with overpriced alcohol and cans.
There's no mirror above the desk.
The shower is \"rainfall\" which i know is very popular, but when you want to keep your hair dry and there's no shower cap and the other outlet is only hip-height, a rainfall shower is a nuisance. There is a hairdryer, but the lack of mirror above the desk requires you to still on the floor near the door if you're going to use it well. You'd be directly outside the bathroom so would block the path of who you're staying with. (Interestingly, there is a mirror in the shower...)
I had a couple of queries which weren't just about my taste so had to be discussed, including a faulty Nespresso which leaked and was dangerous, and these queries were responded to appropriately by the managing team who were spot on.
My observations may be irrelevant for a lot of guests and I'm not suggesting a hotel room *should* include space to store clothes or a space to tidy yourself up comfortably. Make your own decision.

Modern with lots of fun, campy touches. They gave us sweet fruity shots at check in. The rooms are like modern vacation cabins with board and batten walls, there’s a turntable with a few classic rock LP’s and a little Marshal amp, an orange Smeg mini fridge, an old classic black dial telephone on the wall. The bed is comfortable, all white with good duvet. Bathroom is spacious with good amount of counter space. We really like this place and are glad we didn’t get the staid traditional hotel we almost got.

2.5/5, I wouldn’t recommend or stay again.
Pros: the room is nicely decorated, and the bathroom has a spacious shower. Staff are welcoming enough. Can log into Netflix on the tv.
Cons: The noise from the train station is not tolerable, with very loud noises from 4:30am until around midnight each day. Very small rooms, very little space on one side of the bed. The smell in the hotel is incredibly strong of lavender. There is nowhere to put any kind of luggage, no wardrobe or shelves. The shower is rainfall head with an additional small attachment too low down to use without holding it. No room service offered. Lighting in the bathroom is terrible for make up. Would be good to have a mirror at the desk, or a small shelf near the full length mirror. General amenities poor, have stayed in less ‘styled’ hotels which have given a better overall experience. Would choose another hotel in a better location next time.

The first night was a bit of a nightmare. They placed us in a room almost train station height on the train station side. 5:30 am we awoke to a train whistle and the smell of diesel from the train coming through our open window.
The moved us to a room down the hall on the other side of the train station and it was a great experience. Nice pool, gym, sauna and steam bath. The beds were comfortable

This place was great! New and cool. Our entire group loved this place! We did not hear the train at all. They provided ear plugs if they were needed. They kept our luggage after check out while we explored the city and we easily hopped on the train for our next destination.

It was fine. We had problems with the shower drain which they fixed once but happened again. There is no place to unpack your suitcase.
