I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Inn at 97 Winder. The staff were phenomenal—so friendly, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable about both the building’s history and the surrounding area. They really made the experience feel special and personal.

Yes parking was safe and secure although I paid for it. The room was fresh and clean we loved it we were disappointed that hot breakfast is no longer served at Bed and Breakfast establishments. I think you should change the name because it’s not a true bed and breakfast

We had an exceptional stay. We booked the suite with the spiral staircase. The bed is ridiculously comfortable. The room is spacious and in good repair. The facilities are beautiful. The room could use its own temperature control because 72 degrees is hard for me to sleep in but the bed made up for the temperature. The room next to us was smoking weed and you could smell it through the walls but that is not the hotels fault and hopefully those people were charged for the disrespect. The woman who checked us in was a sweetheart. I recommend staying here if you are in Detroit.

It’s a horrendous shame that such a lovely property with incredible rooms, friendly staff, great breakfast and convenient location has such HORRIBLE parking. The city runs the parking lot. You have to pay to park which I can accept. You also have in and out privileges. Now that seems really straight forward except the parking lot over lord doesn’t care. So if you leave he will IMMEDIATELY fill your spot and if you come back there’s a large chance they won’t have a spot for you in the lot you PAID to park in as a hotel guest. Every night is “event parking” and the entire area is just a huge mess. Not because of traffic but because 80 people are trying to cram into a 40 car lot where they’re being double parked. Even better is that the hotel tells the parking folks how many guest they have coming and they still DONT CARE. The city owning the lot doesn’t even matter. But the fact that there’s 0 protection for the $28 a night parking you already paid for if you happen to leave the lot during the day.
I would love to come back. It was such a lovely place they were so kind and accommodating especially with my oxygen tank concerns. But this parking lot makes it a no go. It’s a shame because the rooms are an antique fans dream. I hope they fix it so I can come back again soon.

If you like stately old homes, this is the place. It is has got to be over 100 years old. The woodwork and spiral staircase are amazing. They don’t make homes like this anymore. Huge rooms, all redone; sitting parlors, one with a piano. It was simply amazing. And the staff was first rate, as was the free continental breakfast. We did a Red Wings game one night, Pistons the next, and the arena was a five minute walk to the end of the block and then across Woodward. This is also a slightly longer 10 minute walk to Ford Field, Comerica Park and the theaters on Woodward. Plenty of bars and restaurants a short walk away.

They tell you up front when considering apparently this vintage hotel is more like a house with boarding rooms if you look at the pictures it looks kind of different than what they tell you once you get there basically this will be a good fit for a loaner or elderly person that wants to be not around like a lot of people

Checked into the room and my girlfriend went to the bathroom, toilet did not work. We told the front desk immediately and they checked it out. Gave us a tea kettle and told us to fill up the toilet every time we needed to use it and flush. Did not offer us a different room or anything, just told us to deal with it. Very annoying to deal with and I should have been offered some sort of compensation for this as I paid a good amount for this room and the toilet doesn’t work? The property manager who came and checked out the toilet even said a plumber was there that very morning working on it and knew there was an issue with it, but they still put us in the room knowing there was an issue with the toilet. Talk about bad customer service….

Only downside was because of older home, older windows and location there was quite a bit of noise from outside and the windows were only covered with a laced material which allowed in light and I’m sure were see through at night with the room lights on.

She also notified the owner who could adjust the heat via an app on their phone. Outside of the heat we had an amazing stay. So close to Downtown that we walked everywhere during our stay

We liked the location. However this property uses the paking lot for event parking. We were met by a very pushy and rude lot attendant. I could go into further detail but i wont. not a great start to the trip or first impression. Back up further, (i need my luggage from the back) keep going hurry up, over, back more, right into a shrub with a 6 month old car. When i pay good money i dont expect to be yelled at or told anything. I know how to park a car.

Site says free street parking but that is apparently no longer true, and they don’t own their lot so you have to pay $28/day or walk a half mile any time you need something from your car.

This is literally the worst place I’ve ever stayed.
It’s just a house with rooms upstairs. All stairs, no other way to get to your room. Not a deal breaker but annoying with all my luggage.
The house itself was nice but the room was so bad. You can hear everyone and everything. The bed itself is creaky as hell and makes noise every time you move even a little bit. Everyone else in the house must have the same bed because it’s just as loud.
The TV is tiny and doesn’t have basic cable. So if you can happen to get some over the air channels you can watch something but most of those didn’t work well or at all.
They never gave me the WiFi information after I asked for it and the cell service was spotty. So no way to work or entertain myself really.
And the worst part was that the heat was blasting the entire time. It was like a damn sauna. Summer in December I called it. It was so uncomfortable I couldn’t sleep at all. It was truly terrible.
It was so bad I literally left in the middle of the night to go to the airport. Sitting in one of those uncomfortable chairs to get some sleep was by far the better option since the room was so awful.
As I was waiting for my uber I heard gunshots every 30 seconds or so and one that was probably on that block. I was absolutely terrified but it was still better than sitting in that room.
I hope no one ever books this room again.

The house itself was nice but the room was so bad. You can hear everyone and everything. The bed itself is creaky as hell and makes noise every time you move even a little bit. Everyone else in the house must have the same bed because it’s just as loud.
The TV is tiny and doesn’t have basic cable. So if you can happen to get some over the air channels you can watch something but most of those didn’t work well or at all.
They never gave me the WiFi information after I asked for it and the cell service was spotty. So no way to work or entertain myself really.
And the worst part was that the heat was blasting the entire time. It was like a damn sauna. Summer in December I called it. It was so uncomfortable I couldn’t sleep at all. It was truly terrible.
It was so bad I literally left in the middle of the night to go to the airport. Sitting in one of those uncomfortable chairs to get some sleep was by far the better option since the room was so awful.
As I was waiting for my uber I heard gunshots every 30 seconds or so and one that was probably on that block. I was absolutely terrified but it was still better than sitting in that room.
I hope no one ever books this room again.

There are three sitting rooms and a kitchen on the first floor, which are also beautifully decorated and comfortable. I was in Detroit for work and it was like coming home at the end of the day. We greatly enjoy this Inn. It would be nice to have window shades to keep out the parking lot lights. Pillows are rather large for our tastes. Missing a few toiletries. But the staff is great, continental breakfast is decent, coffee is delicious. The value in this Inn is the location to everything downtown. We always try to stay here when visiting Detroit.

Location is great for downtown however this parking thing needs to be dealt with. I was told we could park early before the Lions game. And then we were told that the hotel doesn’t own the parking lot. How is that possible ? And we couldn’t park there without paying the extortion pricing.

Great for an overnight stay for local events. You absolutely cannot beat the location!!!! Parking on site was my only complaint as it is advertised to have free street parking and we had to pay $28.99 to park in the lot as the city of Detroit has changed to free parking only between 8am -2pm, residential permit needed otherwise. Steps should have been taken to inform guests ahead of time. I received plenty of emails from the management through Hotels.com about the stay with the old parking info. Not a nice surprise. Otherwise our stay was great for what we needed!

The Inn was beautiful inside and out, however; in our room there was a ceiling that is peeling, a tear on the wall above the bed, there was already used and empty beer can and whiskey bottle, dead bugs and dust in the left window as I wanted to open the blinds but once I had seen that, I kept them closed. The large rug needs industrial cleaning, as it was pretty stained.

What a neat place to stay in downtown Detroit. The inn was close to where we were going (the Masonic Temple for a concert) but also within a few hundred yards of the Fox and downtown sports parks.
The old place is beautiful and funky without being too fussy. The bathroom was huge—a room unto itself!
Our room was quite cold (third floor) due to AC and as it was about 11:30 pm when we got home from the concert, there was no one to contact. Extra blanket helped.
The mattress is about at the end of its life.

The outside of the building & the grounds are beautiful. We stayed in room 24. It was very warm in the room. Windows did not open, no ceiling fan. I asked the worker there & she turned on sub par air conditioning. The room had no amenities, except a TV. The room had not been cleaned recently. There was a price tag & dust on the floor in the main room. Two bed pillows did not have cases. The window behind the TV was covered by a heavy drape. Behind the drape was a broken, dirty blind. I dropped something on the floor in the bathroom. When I bent to pick it up, the back of the sink & toilet were filthy.
The two workers were very nice & welcoming. The continental breakfast was nice. But the filth & poor ventilated room was unacceptable. For $212, we were definitely overcharged. We will never stay there again & will not recommend to our friends.
