Staff was great! Room was ultra basic and need upgrading. We paid $490 to check in at 4pm and check out at 11am. Mattress were thin and seemed to be an afterthought on guest comfort.

I recently stayed at the Detroit Marriott renaissance for a week. My bed was made only twice-I told the overworked housekeeper she could skip cleaning my room the third time as it was late in the day and my last night. There were no amenities or extra toilet paper in the bathroom, which was dangerously low by the end of my stay. Worst, I had to get new bed linens as the duvet and pillows smelled really bad, much like dirty airplane blankets. Lastly, the room keys were annoyingly spotty—sometimes requiring two or three swipes in order to get the floor number in the elevator to illuminate. I won’t bore you with the entire litany—you probably get the gist.

On the positive side, the staff were very nice and as helpful as they could be. The view of the river from my room and the gym were fantastic and the air conditioning worked really well.

There’s inconsistency related to cleaning my room. One day the bed is made and other days it is not. There’s one day, my room was not clean at all.

The fitness room is too busy. Did not have opportunity to workout because it was too busy.

There’s coffee maker in my room. Would appreciate it if there’s bottle water for them.

Securities everywhere which is good.

Staff was great, check in was easy. Room was clean but there are no microwaves inside the rooms. Only one on the main floor in the lobby. WiFi is an extra charge and so is parking. For those reason alone I will never stay here again. For this to be Marriot at the GM Renaissance Center… they need to upgrade the rooms if they’re gonna charge separate fees for basic things like this.

Booked a suite through expedia 2 weeks ago my name did not show up in their system. Despite getting the confirmation number from marriot itself they could not find.
After some back and forth they check me in a regular room. Had to go down 69 floors just to get my room changed.
No bathrobes nothing.
Literally the bathtub was the smallest you ever imagine i booked Hospitality Suite which was around $900 per night.
The only good thing was the city view.

We love this hotel. It is in the heart of Detroit, so most everything is walkable, plus it is on the Detroit River. The rooms are always clean and the staff usually let us check in early, which is a massive benefit when flying in from another state. There are good dining options + I enjoy seeing the GM vehicles on the main floor.

Front desk staff was awesome and went out of her way.
The cleaning staff assisted with more pillows in my new room.

My check-in experience was exceptional from start to finish. The staff went above and beyond—without even being asked, they promptly collected our luggage and delivered it to our room, which was a thoughtful and much-appreciated gesture. We were warmly welcomed at the front desk with complimentary bottled water, setting a great tone for our stay.
Every team member we encountered greeted us with a smile, creating a genuinely welcoming atmosphere throughout the property. I also appreciated how helpful the staff were when I had questions about directions and local dining recommendations—they were knowledgeable and eager to assist.
Overall, the service was outstanding and truly made our stay memorable.

Our hotel room (east wing) was clean and we had a great view of the city. Our biggest concern was the check-in process where it took close to 25 minutes. They appeared understaffed although our check-in person was kind and helpful. People mover access was very convenient along with parkikg right across the street. Beds were comfortable and plenty of towels in bathroom.

The check in was smooth, quick, & we easily checked in an hour before! The room served its purpose, was comfortable. The bed was clean! There were some small things, seemed like there were crumbs on the carpet that were not vaccumed on different areas of the carpet. There was a napkin stuffed in the peek hole on the door & room was a bit outdated. I would stay again if necessary.

Terrible. Room key and elevator key barely worked. Not enough towels and face cloths despite our reservation for 4 ppl. Wifi not free. Paid over $600 for one night and no free wifi? Parking is $31 but advertised for $25 on the website. Rooms are outdated and needs renovated.

The room itself was excellent. However, It was like Walmart to check in with maybe 10 check-in desks and only two reception people working Friday in the afternoon. The hotel is very difficult to navigate if you’re trying to get out to the street or to find coffee. The Illy coffee bar was closed the Friday, Saturday and Sunday we were there. But it was very interesting that the hotel was part of the GM renaissance center. And the proximity to the river was nice. Our room had an excellent view of the river and the city.

Bed bugs, rooms double booked, blocked exits

It was terrible!
From checking - rude staff. Several people at our conference had bed bugs in their room; others entered dirty rooms; some others had strangers trying to access their rooms after rooms were double booked.
I had no trash cans in my room.
To make matters worse, a grease fire in the kitchen on the top floor was initially dismissed by staff as regular cooking smells. When the building was evacuated, some of the stairwells and passageways were difficult to pass through and in one case, the fire exit door was locked. The fire marshal needs to go and check out the building and I am horrendously disappointed with Marriott where I stay on a frequent basis perhaps no more.

Walking distance to Riverwalk and Greektown. Make sure to check out the Mariner's Church close by if you are a Gordon Lightfoot fan. Loved the GM cars on display in the central atrium. Valet parking was very accessible and professionally ran. Check in was easy, although a little confusion with payments already applied through Expedia. Room lacked amenities (coffee) but had a coffee pot. Room was adequate but outdated. Lack of free coffee in lounge for guests. Rooms were very quiet. Didn't see any other quests on our floor, or cleaning services while there, but the rooms were clean. AC worked great in room.

Our stay at the JW Marriott in the Ren Cen was truly unforgettable! The iconic building exudes history and character, creating a unique and captivating atmosphere from the moment we arrived. We spent wonderful moments exploring the observation bar and restaurant, both of which offered incredible experiences. The GM Museum on the ground floor offers a great taste of the reason this building exist. Even if you are not a GM fan, it is neat to see the history that this building means for Automotive companies in Detroit.

The staff were exceptional—warm, welcoming, and always ready to assist whenever we had a question. Their hospitality truly made us feel at home. The hotel’s location is ideal, being conveniently situated right next to the Detroit People Mover (DPM) in a peaceful part of town that’s perfect for walking. Its proximity to the scenic RiverWalk and the Canadian Tunnel added an extra layer of convenience and charm to our trip.

We wholeheartedly recommend booking at this hotel for anyone visiting Detroit. We’re already looking forward to returning!

I was attending a convention at the Marriott. Valet parking was challenging, so I chose a nearby parking garage instead. Upon checkout, I wanted my luggage held at the bell desk. Neither a member of the staff nor I could find a member of the bell staff, so I had to keep my luggage with me throughout the day. The bathroom had some plumbing maintenance issues that I am sure were fixed quickly, as they were not complicated.
