Very disappointing!!! I reserved a room (two months ago) with a king bed and got a small room with two queen beds. When I asked woman at front desk, she was VERY nonchalant in saying that there were no rooms available. She blamed Expedia for the error and told me to call them to complain. Then she suggested that I check out and find somewhere else to stay but I wouldn't be refunded for what was paid for the room. Being that I had to be at an event soon snd had no time to search for another hotel, I stayed. The room was small and very cold. When I looked at the windows, there was duct tape around the windows to (try) to keep the cold draft out, but the tape was old and coming off. I cranked the thermostat up to 90 degrees and the room was still cold. The bathroom was in need of remodeling or repair. The was wall was \"bubbled\" and paint peeling due to damage from steam coming from the shower. Between the tiles of the shower and along edge of bathtub there were blackened areas and mold in the grout. Overall a VERY disappointing stay. I will not return or suggest to others to stay there.

The entrance looked nice and that was it...rooms were outdated as all get out...The furnace made a loud thumping noise the whole time and they started work on the building at 8 am the next morning and woke me up ....Won't stay here again.

Nice location and good overall value

Nice historical hotel in a good location near downtown. Folks working here were extraordinarily friendly and accommodating. Room was spacious, clean, quiet and comfortable overall. Lobby area is hip and comfortable. The only downside is that our room bathroom didn’t seem to have cold water.

Not a good place to stay!

Hotel was not what I expected based on website and photos online. Booked a room with two queen beds and got a room with two double beds. Rooms aren’t modeled at all looks like they haven’t been upgraded in years. The air conditioning didn’t work either the air unit would only blow hot air. Was really disappointing as I was in town for my friends wedding and was in Detroit for the first time. Don’t stay here, for the price we paid could’ve stayed somewhere way nicer. Was a live and you learn type of experience.

The rooms we had were not at all like the photos. Apparently, those are only on the 6th floor.? Our rooms were dated, and more like motel quality than what is shown on the websites. So, don’t assume you’ll get the updated rooms when you book here! The common areas were updated and beautiful, so a big letdown when we got to our rooms. The walls are also thin. My neighbors TV was on all night and I could here their conversations. Maybe they were loud talkers and had the volume up, but not what we were expecting.

Staff was very friendly. We were told at check in that the rooms were very hot, not to turn on a/c, to turn off heat and open windows. Rooms were sparse, sufficient for our needs. We woke up in the morning to find no cold water, making it impossible to shower. The concierge just said they were having problems, sorry. Not the best way to start our day.

I wish there had been a fridge. The air-conditioning wouldn't shut off. We tried turning the heat on instead and the thermostat would say we had but the unit continued blowing cold air. Then we tried turning off the entire unit and that didn't work either.

Don’t trick people by putting photos of only renovated rooms when the majority of your rooms aren’t. The opposite of luxury hotel. Additionally, if you are hosting a funeral / memorial, don’t keep the flowers up days after as decoration.

When I came in to check in the guy at the front desk told me to wait until he finished his paperwork and made a couple phone calls before attending to me! Extremely rude!!! Then made made made me go move my car and come back in to check in! Finally got checked in asked if there was anyone who would deliver there and he said look it up on my phone! Upon checking out he had to inspect our room so he told me to go load my car with luggage and I did and came back he was still at the desk cleaning it and said oh I’ll go check your room in a couple minutes just wait!! Extremely rude again!! Overall not impressed at all!!!

Disappointing stay

We were very disappointed in our stay. There was suppose to be dining and a bar. They were apparently redoing the hotel, so no dining. We had to pay for parking which surprised us. The room had no tissues, only a very small waste can. It sure was not worth the price we paid. The only thing it had going for it, was it was near the train station.

Check in was a terrible experience. I was told the system was down come back in a few hours. They then proceeded to check the person behind me in.

The lobby was lovely though.

The room smelled terrible, the bathroom was gross, the beds were very uncomfortable and one pillow only! They were going to bring more but never did.

The room had zero decorations and didn't even have a trash can in the room to toss items! But... It was cool that the window opened for fresh air. It made the room breathable at least!

I would not recommend, would not stay again... Spend the extra $100 and stay at one of the casinos!

We had a great stay. The room was directly off of the elevator on the 3rd floor. The staff were all wonderful. I would definitely recommend this hotel. The location was great as well.
The only negative was the restaurant was temporarily closed. They are remodeling and updating it...totally understandable.

This was the absolute worst stay I have ever had. I let them know I had a wedding the next day and myself and my wedding party would be staying at the hotel. I paid for parking included in my stay and they told me after the fact they would charge me for every car that pulled into the parking lot and was related to my stay or wedding party. The hotel rooms were lack luster. They did not even have a refrigerator or microwave in them and they do not look like the pictures at all. Our air did not work. We had our air settings on the lowest setting tried “on” and “auto” but still did not work. They had maintenance come and fix it but it was never fixed. I paid over $500 for both of my rooms and deposits and was throughly disappointed.
when we went downstairs to talk to Sal the front desk receptionist he was very rude. He told us he was the manager and it was no one else we could speak with and continued to be rude to us. He even argued with my sister in law.
Over all I will never stay here again and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone as well. Poor customer service, no luxury, over all terrible. We did not even stay our second night THATS how bad it was. 0/10 would recommend.

Beautiful and very clean I just needed two beds

The room was very clean and nice but I did not get a room with two beds like I asked and booked for. The lady at the front desk said their weren't any available after she just have me a room with one bed. I didn't know until I got to the room. We had to squeeze in one bed. She had just charged us for parking without letting us know it cost. The bathrooms were very nice and clean. I love how they don't have carpet on the room floors. Experience was nice we just needed at least two beds. Online checkout time says 12pm but the hotel said it was 11am.

Checking in the credit card machine didn’t work, luckily the host was also a financial advisor and was able to let me know my credit cards were no good.

Quaint minimalist rooms are pretty hip these days, so we didn’t mind that the only amenity was a half shot of shampoo strategically placed on the other side of the bathroom from the shower. You can tell people loved their stay by the film of dirt and booze on the floor as well as the other guests yelling and screaming all night long through the hallways. Even though I’ve had better sleep in a ravine, the extra springyness of the classic antique mattress offers fun and excitement as any time you move a limb, the bed will wake up your partner to let them know.

Anyways, whomever is running this dump has completely lost the plot. They should be ashamed. Should have just got a room at the Normandy for $20.

Sales team and onsite staff were not on the same page. Rooms sold to me and my team were not the ones we stayed in. Rooms were not cleaned or tidy at all. When we brought it to the staff they told us we'd have to wait until they morning but the rooms we actually paid for were under renovation. From the moment I entered the property I had regret booking there. The front desk rep began by complaining how he couldn’t find help because of the unemployment boost by the government. Then advised me that parking would be $20 per day. When I explained to him I’d take a moment to make that decision he told me he could try and make sure they didn’t tow my vehicle right then but anytime after that they could potentially tow it. I had been there FIVE MINUTES. There was one roll of toilet paper in the room. I booked a single king room the rep provided me with double beds. When I went downstairs to have the mistake corrected rep advised me that it’s at the discretion of the hotel. Yet failed to inform me before I went to my room. This property failed to deliver on every level possible and I won’t ever stay there again. Went to the Marriott and received an awesome room for $30 cheaper a night

On-site parking was nice, but that was about the only thing. Staff wasn’t super friendly, and when we arrived our bathtub was full of water. Our room was adjoining to another which was disappointing. The adjoining room occupant blared music until after 2am. We called the front desk asking them to take care of the problem and got an attitude from the staff member working the desk. It was 45 minutes when the music finally stopped. We won’t be staying here again.

The website said 20.00 valet parking, upon arrival I found out no valet parking and it was still 20.00 to park even though there was a sign on the parking lot gatehouse that said 10.00. I complained to the host and he said sorry, it’s still 20.00

For the price, this was an underwhelming stay. I frequent Detroit and only stayed here because it was a host hotel for an event with close friends. For these rooms to be as expensive as they are with no microwave or refrigerator is less than stellar. I can't say I would stay here again despite its historical significance. Too many little inconveniences that added up.

Don't Do It!!

this hotel needs serious updating. They claimed it to be a boutique hotel instead it was a hole in the wall. The rate was about $150/night. Complete robbery. I walked in room 211 and thought I stepped into yr 1945. It is unacceptable and the chain should be embarrassed.

I have stayed at this property a number of times and while the location is awesome, the price for this hotel is about $20-$30 overpriced. This is a bare minimum hotel in terms of amenities. The temperature was not easily regulated, the shower head needs replacing and there was rust above the shower head. There was what seemed to be a mentally ill person in the room next to me that yelled and hollered through out the night.

Not much amenities wise but does have parking right on site for $20 a night, an open all night bar, and some scattered vending machines. Beds were comfy, pillows were kinda small. Only a mini fridge and a tv in the room, but hard to beat it for the price!

The shower wouldn't work, there were pen caps in a few different places indicating not very good cleaning. The walls were thin. Except for the customer service this was no different than any other hotel

I was expecting to stay at such a nice prestigious hotel (considering the name) it’s was by far the same as motel 6 or just like a motor lodge. Room was soooooo outdated. There wasn’t even a garage can or fan for the bathroom. It was clean but they definitely need to update the rooms. It was certainly not worth the money spent. I will probably never stay there again.

If your looking for a place to stay its fine, but do not expect much. You cant control the heating/cool unit in the room. So its based of the current season. Shower door does not extend all the way, it stops half way. Door that leads to another room could not be locked.

The AC in the room was not working and the room never got cooler than 84 degrees. After requesting fans, we were advised that none were available. I had to go get 2 small personal fans. Floor was noisey. Hotel appeared empty, yet we had guests directly next door in an adjoining room who were loud. Not sure why they wouldn't space guests further apart.

Hotel makes you pay $20.00 for valet parking. Hotel claims they offer a free breakfast, they put a pot of coffee and a couple stale muffins on a table in lobby. The room was clean, shower head in bathroom sprayed water everywhere. Got woke up several times from loud noises in street and hallways.

Staff was kind and friendly! I had a concern about a charge that was added to my credit card and a young lady by the name of Tameka looked into it and made sure it was taken care of.

The Valet was also helpful and kind! Very energetic! I can’t remember his name but he was working when I checked in at 4 p.m.

My friend and I stayed here for the Garth Brooks concert at Ford Field. We were looking for something not outrageously priced and with some Detroit charm, and we found it here! From booking to check out, this hotel was awesome. With it being a huge concert weekend, there was a long line to check in, but it moved quickly, and the ladies at the desk never missed a beat. Tameka assisted us, and she laughed and smiled through the check in process - even with all that stress! The hotel is under renovation, but that had absolutely no effect on our stay. The room was the perfect size and very clean. The staff throughout the hotel were very pleasant. We had a great stay!

worst stay we have had ever.

it took over an hour to get checked in, once we where in they said that they only had a room with 1 bed for 4 people even though we picked 2 queen beds, when we got to the room there was no heat in the room they said they fixed it but it was 50 in the room when we got up in the morning. had to ask for more blankets and pillows so 2 people slept on the floor.

We arrived well after check in time, had to wait in line to check in for almost an hour, then had to wait an additional forty five minutes (almost two hours total) because our room - and many others - were not ready. By that time, we were late for our event and forced to forego dinner. All of this occurred without even one apology from a staff member or the manager.

We arrived at 3:45 to a line of people who had also been waiting to check-in, some for an hour before we arrived. Those checking in were being told that their rooms wouldn’t be available for a couple more hours. We had plans that night, so we decided to valet our car and check in later in the evening. After waiting over 45 minutes, we were able to park our car and leave. When we did return at 1am, they did check us in quickly. That night there was a repetitious noise in the walls that made it difficult to sleep, and our room didn’t have hot water for a shower the next morning. Overall, it seems like the hotel should be better equipped to handle a concert weekend that they’ve known about for several months in advance. We had been looking forward to this weekend for months, and the hotel experience really tarnished the experience.

When checking in we understood the hotel was busier than normal with a large concert going on that evening. We arrived for check-in at 3pm which is the stated check in time. We got through the long line to the front desk by 330 and were told we would have to wait until a room was cleaned. We were put on a list and asked to wait in the lobby, they would notify us when our room was ready. Several other guests were waiting as well. By 430 most people had got their rooms and left the lobby. We still remained there with a few other couples. We finally went back to ask the front desk (they could see us from their desk) and our room was ready. They acted like it was news to them that we were still waiting. Very ill prepared for what they knew was going to be a busier than normal day. A terrible start to an otherwise great trip.
