I would like to inform you that I have been traveling to the Netherlands mainly for business since 1980.
The first hotel I stayed in was the Marriott in Amsterdam. Since then I stayed in most of the major hotels in Amsterdam except the Amstel. The same for Rotterdam. My business took me sometime to small towns where I stayed in small but convenient hotels.
I arrived the day before yesterday intending to stay for two nights on my way back to Kuwait from Detroit but the charm of Leiden induced me to stay for two more days. Everybody we met in the hotel and the city was nice and polite except one receptionist I met her today at AM 11:50.
We were supposed to move to our new room in the new building. I went to the receptionist whose name is Noa and I am not sure about the spelling and asked when we can move to our new room and she or another girl answered your room is ready.
And I asked Noa what time I have to check out from my room and she replied at 12. So I told we need more time to pack. She insisted on 12. And I asked give at least until 12:30 and she replied no. And then after demand from me she said I will give you until 12:15. And we managed to check out at 12:25 and a nice girl checked us out.
I told Noa that even if you’re fully booked the room has to be available by PM 3:00. But she didn’t care.
But the most hurting was the way she was talking to me. She was talking to me as

Havde for øvrigt også rod i registreringerne, så de forsøgte at få betaling for opholdet ved både ind- og udtjekning. Lidt uopmærksomhed fra min side ville have betydet dobbelt betaling. Og nærmest latterligt, blev receptionisten fornærmet over at blive opdaget i en fejl.

We chose The Golden Tulip, for a week’s stay because it is so close to the Leiden Central Station, so it was a great location. We could quickly walk to all of the great areas of the wonderful city of lLeiden. The staff was friendly, helpful and professional. The double bed room was small, but well laid out, efficient and impeccably cleaned everyday. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. The espresso machine was great! The room has been updated with great modern design.

What was missing are the amenities we expect from a 4 star hotel. The bathroom amenities, particularly the hair conditioner and body lotion were virtually impossible to get out of the tiny containers, and there was no actual shampoo, just a body wash/shampoo combination. The soap dispensers seemed too cheap for a 4 star hotel. The hallways are quite dreary and could use some art on the walls.

All that being said, we would stay at The Golden Tulip again, and hope that the ammenities hav3 been upgraded.

This hotel is not very modern, not even having USB sockets for charging. The room quite basic, my bed was releasing strange sounds with my every move. Awful smell in the toilet did not disappear all night. Kettle was not working. It’s not the hotel quality it used to be 5-10 years ago.

This was a great location to stay. Across the street from train and bus station. Easy access to the tulip gardens as they have a bus dedicated for the gardens at the depot. With the train station across the street made it easy to travel to other areas.
Restaurant was good and service was outstanding. And everyone was eager to help and spoke English!

Hotel is close to train station, convenient to take train to other attractions. Hotel staff is professional and courteous, but not friendly nor put any extra effort in assisting the customers. I think this might be typical in Europe, unlike American hotels. We had the business suit, room is spacious but noisy in the morning from the elevator so don't sleep in late. Also room doesn't have enough lights and too dark at night for older travellers like us. Room's view out of window is a roof of the building with a wall in front, so no so good.

Among the many positives;
Kind staff (cleaning team!! and front desk). Even the renovation workers were also considerate.
Very quiet and relaxing in the evening. The suite room was very comfortable. The bath was also such a lovely addition, great for my kid to enjoy.
There were lobby seating areas that looked very pleasant to enjoy a chat.

Very minor downsides: The baggage carts were challenging to steer. The lifts were quite small, so a baggage cart and a person is difficult to fit into the lift together. TV /channels were a little challenging to sort out. Ketnet and youtube didn't seem to work, which would have been better entertainment options for the moments the young ones need it.

Everything worked out well, and we very much enjoyed our stay!

Good staff, good surrounding. Great location—just steps from the Leiden Central station. However, the bathroom was extremely unclean—to the point that one should never give this hotel a four star rating. Expedia should take these things into consideration when rating a hotel. The toilet bowl had terrible stain! I don’t want to give a description of it. Wish I had a better room with clean toilet. That said, since I might go to Leiden soon, I’ll probably end up staying here again simply because of the location.

Quite an expensive hotel which is located in a great location (close to train station) in Leiden. For a hotel that seems to charge a higher end price, there is no bottled water in the room and the coffee is chargeable in the mornings (odd for a Dutch hotel). Also, the mini fridge in the room had the previous customers opened tinned tray of sardines, which was an unpleasant find. In short, there are many better hotels in Leiden.

Comfortabel hotel voor stedentrip

Het hotel bevindt zich op een handige locatie. Het is naast het centraal station en op loopafstand van de stad. Voor een stedentrip ideaal. Onze kamer bevond zich aan de achterkant van het gebouw. Het uitzicht was niks, maar het was 's nachts wel heel stil.

Het hotel is wat gedateerd, maar verder wel comfortabel. Jammer was dat in onze kamer de douche niet goed werkte (deze werd steeds koud). Receptie heeft wel gelijk gekeken en een andere kamer aangeboden, maar alles weer inpakken en verhuizen zagen wij zelf niet zitten voor 1 nacht. Het onderhoud in de kamer kan beter. De airconditioning werkte niet naar behoren (deze sloeg 's nachts steeds af en daardoor werd het erg benauwd in de kamer) en het lampje naast het bed was kapot.

Daarnaast is het jammer dat als een extra bed in de kamer gezet wordt, dat dan niet een extra paar slippers of een extra glas neergezet wordt. Dat zijn kleine dingen die de ervaring net even wat beter zouden maken.

Wij hebben geen gebruik gemaakt van diner of ontbijt in het hotel. Het ontbijt was € 17,50 p.p. maar wij waren eigenlijk alleen op zoek naar een kop koffie en croissantje. Het zou fijn zijn als dat ook een mogelijkheid zou zijn i.p.v. gelijk een heel ontbijtbuffet.

Receptie was heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam, maar met de mankementen in onze kamer had een drankje van het hotel of een kleine tegemoetkoming attent geweest. Al met al een prima verblijf voor een stedentrip waar je de kamer alleen gebruikt om in te slapen.

This hotel had the least accessible parking I’ve ever encountered. There are no signs and if you follow the map you’ll be forced to make a 10 minute detour to circle back. We had to call front desk for instructions. My colleague was booked into a room that hadn’t been cleaned. The pictures show the town but don’t reflect the actual location. It’s essentially the same hotel as another “tulip” hotel at same address for much cheaper. his was a $60 experience from a $140 hotel.

A good solid and safe choice - w/u usual shower

This is a Dutch hotel chain that does not disappoint. Everyone speaks English, the breakfast menu is wonderful , and they happily store luggage if you want to do sight seeing after checking out.

The shower was unique. With a modern bathroom design, it did not have a door. In fact, only the toilet had a door. Although the sink was separated by a partial wall, there was no separate bathroom door.
The shower also did not have a door.

Additionally, part of the shower wall facing the bedroom was glass. That was unexpected and meant that the person showering can look into the beds - and vice versa. Something to keep in mind if travelling with teens or someone you don't want to undress in front of

We love to stay at the Golden Tulip! We have stayed here before, and will definitely be back. Leiden is a great city to hang out in, and the location of the hotel can’t be beat. It is just a short walk from the train station, where you can catch a train to anywhere you want to go.

Very nice stay for business. Very handy for the train station to Amsterdam Schipol Airport. A little inconveneint that the lift to one part of the hotel was not working, which could be a problme for older guests. Apart from that the hotel was very clean, Julie did a great job of cleaning my room, and the brealfast was excellent with plenty of choice and some lovely breads. Try and get a room on the back as the road outside can be a little noisy at times

For a 4 star hotel it is lacking a lot of amenities, eg. no shaving mirror, no sink in separate toilet, very unhygienic. Extra noisy plumbing, could hear toilets flushing and showers running in the early hours. Scuff marks on walls that should be addressed by maintenance.Overall an ok hotel but for the reasons mentioned we will not be rushing to book again

Leiden is small town - no where is more than 20 minute walk away.

Golden tulip has been renovated, if you are body conscious be aware shower is open. Bottled water costs, restaurant closed by 10 pm, but bar staff are really nice and will get you chips and snacks. Breakfast is €17 but Jumbo is a fab shop down the road and there are gray cafes where you can get a great breakfast cheaper.
