Property was beautifully situated next to the Morsch Gate entrance to the old city at the confluence of two canals. A statue of Rembrandt van Rijn was in the adjacent park as this was where he was born. The setting is very picturesque especially with boat traffic in the evenings trolling around the city. We stayed for three nights. It got warmer each night which is unusual for Holland. There was no air conditioning. We had to leave open a window, and there was nearby foot traffic and revelers that made a little noise beyond the time you would anticipate. The last night was quite warm and even with the window open, I was sweating in the bed. As we checked out, I suggested to the desk employee that air movement is needed for that room like a fan or something. She said \"why didn't you use the fan?\" I said \" What fan?\" She said \"the fan in your room?\" I said \"there was no fan in the room.\" She said, \"somebody must have removed it.\"

The bed was fine, the bathroom was designed by an amateur and no lady could ever apply makeup with the dismal light fixture over the bathroom mirror. The breakfast they offered was very comprehensive and way more than I was prepared to eat. Nevertheless, ever patron received the same breakfast. There was no menu, just a binary choice of breakfast, yes or no.

I will not stay there again.

Great hotel with character in a superb location and lovely cafe area
The only problem were the bathrooms. I don’t want to see or hear my partner going to the toilet!! It’s just thin slightly frosted glass to the bathroom so you can see and hear everything going on. A distinct downside to this hotel. A shame as the rest of the hotel was lovely.

Conveniently located just off the main shopping and eating areas. Only 7 minute walk to the Leiden Central train station and from there it is an easy 15-20 minute train ride to Schiphol airport or 35-40 minutes to Amsterdam Central. We took a direct bus to Keukenhof Gardens from Leiden in April for a wonderful day seeing the tulips. Property is neat and clean and unique in structure, making it a nice change from cookie cutter chain hotels.

Beautiful bulilding, super friendly staff(special shout out to Nadine and the lady who was at the hotel on Wednesday morning and Sunday afternoon) and the complementary breakfast was lekker. The only downside of my stay was some noisy guests who talked and laughed loudly and invited outsiders over for three nights in a row. Will come back when I visit Leiden next time. Dankuwel.

Super cute place on a perfect spot easy access to cheap parking 20 minutes from airport. Surprising breakfast. Personal attention. Comfort Ok taking in consideration the fact the building is a monument from ages past.

Would have rather saved money staying elsewhere

The staff at the hotel are nice and will give you information about places to visit, but room and breakfast were disappointing. The duvet cover had a stain on it, there was a hole in one of the towels, the soap dish had chips, the fridge is only big enough for their alcohol, and the breakfast was not worth 16€/person since it was mostly bread with some spread (my partner and I were expected to share one boiled egg and one fried egg).

The rooms are very chic and smart (which can sometimes rather overrides comfort I think). The hotel is in a lovely position, near enough station to walk there easily. Near to shops and restaurants and overlooking tiny park and pretty canal side. ( there is sometimes noise from open area at night ).

This is not your typical chain hotel, it was small but suited my needs quite well. The staff were very caring and accommodating. I had asked where I could buy a charger converter and instead of naming a store, they just loaned me one. When my group came to breakfast early, they didn’t turn us away, instead they quickly made sure we were accommodated. Wonderful staff! Very clean facility. Would definitely stay there if I’m ever back in town.

It was right in the middle of a plaza that bordered an old gate to the city. It was really easy to navigate walking tours, because there is a huge windmill right next to the hotel, making it very hard to get lost.

This was a two night stay for me on this trip and somewhat different from a traditional hotel. The place is well kept, clean, tidy, and a bit funky which is why I wanted to stay there. It is pretty centrally located to walking around the heart of downtown and walking to/from the Leiden Centraal train station. It has a bar/dining area in the lobby and seating outside as well with great views to the canals and windmill. It is a charming.

Bathroom and shower doors are made of iron/steel in keeping with the theme of the architecture which is related to the original purpose of the old historic building. However, as a result, the doors are very loud when you shut them, especially in the quiet of the night. It would be most helpful if they put some rubber bumpers on the doors so they don't make such a loud sound when you shut them. It is completely unnecessary to have that kind of loud noise in a hotel. Most people want some quiet and don't want to hear their neighbors or wake their partners when they use the facilities.

I was in Room 18 on the second floor which abuts the lobby upper air space. They have a door to shut off this space to the hallway with a sign asking people to keep the door shut. That does not work. People ignore it or forget about it. It would be helpful to put an hydraulic arm on it that ensures that the door shuts each and every time. This would better ensure the upstairs remains quiet which is the intent of the door (and note).

Would recommend d'oude Morsch hotel for a stay in Leiden.Location very central .easy few minutes walk to Train & Bus stations. We had room 4 on ground floor first 4 nights. A little noisy as cafe just outside. But large room and bathroom. Next had room 9. Very small . Standard room. No where to put soap.shampoo in shower. So best to upgrade to better room.
Overall very happy and all the staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. If back in Leiden would stay again.

Beautiful hotel close enough to everything, the rooms are quirky, great use of space, minimalistic and modern.
The only thing to be mindful of is the bathroom is a partition of the room and the wall is all glass, albeit frosted it still lacks some privacy.

Perfect place to stay in Leiden

My husband and I recently stayed 3 nights at this hotel. We found it well located between the train station and the centre of town. The room was clean, comfortable and stylish. We appreciated the coffee machine, kettle and free water. The staff were friendly and helpful and we were able to hire bikes on all three days of our stay. My only suggestion is that if mobility or small spaces are an issue I would book one of the more expensive rooms on the ground floor. The rooms upstairs have sloping roofs with beams that impact on the space available.
As we have family living nearby we will definitely be back in Leiden and happily stay at this hotel again.

Nice hotel. Spoilt by noisy locals outside the hotel smoking weed and drinking being disruptive until the early hours. Rooms were very stuffy could benefit from air con rather than a fan. Complimentary water only provided on arrival day, considering the price this was a bit disappointing. Good location however for the area. Managers were disinterested in making any amends for the lack of sleep during our 4 night stay due to noisy locals and even provided a number for us to try and contact the local Dutch speaking police ourselves who failed to turn up.

Hotel room was very nice (although on the small side), modern, clean, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Location is fantastic, on the north side of Leiden, very close to secure and modestly priced parking.

They are also associated with two good restaurants, and give you free appetizers at each (plus a 30% discount on parking). We really enjoyed our stay!

This is an amazing hotel. It is very unique and the staff is wonderful! It is the closest to home you can possibly feel in a hotel. I have been coming to this hotel for years and for long stays - it has gotten better with time! They take feedback seriously and have fixed all the little issues (such as more storage space in the rooms.)
The hotel is in a beautiful area by the old port and next to a windmill. It is about 5 minute walk to the train station and less than 10 min walk to the city center.

Excellent conversion of army barracks to stylish hotel. Good location midway between the station and town centre, especially useful if using Leiden as a base to visit other historic towns in the area. Breakfast (not included) was very tasty.

However, like most \"boutique\" hotels, more emphasis needs to be put on practicality rather than funky design! In our (spacious) double room we had only one bedside light and one chair. The bed was comfy, the room was light and airy with a view of the gatehouse, so despite some shortcomings we would happily return.

Unique and charming hotel

Very unique hotel - old army barracks converted to a modern, cozy hotel. Decorations are really nice, with a nice bland of old army and modern art.
Breakfast was very nice - loved the freshly squeezed orange juice and everything else. Room was charming, regular size, bathroom very nice.
Only negative was that there was hardly any drawer/wardrobe space for my clothes. I was travelling for a little over a week, and would have preferred not to live out of my suitcast for a few days at this hotel.
Overall, would definitely go back!

Some Tips for Business Travlers

This hotel is lovely - I will stay here whenever I can. It's close to both the University and the Train station. The staff was very nice, and the room was great. Breakfast was also delicious, and extra (but well worth it IMO).

A couple tips:
1) Make sure you get enough Wifi Tickets, I was only given two and I was staying 2 nights. You need one for every day that you are there (So I should have received 3). I didn't think much of it, until my wifi ran out in the middle of the night.
2) There aren't any staff downstairs after 11pm (or if there are I had no idea how to find them) so keep that in mind in case you have any questions or need anything in particular (I couldn't find anyone to help get me a new wifi code...for example)
3) They don't serve dinner - only breakfast and lunch. So if you arrive, tired and hungry....you'll need to venture out for a bite. There's a restaurant behind it that's owned by the same people - so you don't have to go far.

NIce for a short stay.

This little hotel is very close to the Central Station -- I mean a 6 minute walk. But it is on a square with several bars/restaurants, and in the summer this can make for some unwanted noise up to midnight. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Great hotel near centre of Leiden

Unique style of hotel situated very close to centre of Leiden, staff were all very friendly and exceptionally helpful and also knowledgeable about where to visit in the town. Hotel room was very clean and comfortable and functional.

Boutique should not mean poor service

After a promising start things went downhill. No milk available in the hotel on the second morning for breakfast cereal or tea. Someone sent out to buy some!!! Room not serviced on the third day, we had to make our own beds as the housekeeping service had left before 5p.m.

Great stay in beautiful Leiden

Nice little hotel. We loved the room and the city. Amazing shower. Great breakfast with gluten-free bread and biscuits. Friendly staff. Would stay again

Something different!

Converted from a guardroom near a barracks, this small hotel is decorated and furnished in an unusual but effective style. Rooms are simple with a bath in the bedroom and separate toilet and shower, beds are comfortable and breakfast was good. The hotel is in a central position, not far from the station, near restaurants and well located to walk round Leiden. But it's not immediately obvious that this building is the hotel - we walked round the area for ten minutes before realising! No obvious signage. Would recommend if you'd like something different.
