We had a wonderful stay. The room was comfortable, spacious, and very clean. The staff were amazing, friendly, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. Food options were limited, but everything we tried was really good. We would happily stay here again.

The hotel itself is all you can expect from a budget hotel, possibly a bit more. Staff are friendly, beds are comfortable and clean, and breakfast is good.
Slight niggle would be it's not near the centre and the bus isn't very frequent, so car is really the only way around. This adds cost as parking is expensive! Maybe loan bikes would help?

It's quite an anonymous, business-orientated hotel, handy for the ring road, less handy for the centre of Leiden on foot or by public transport. The breakfast buffet is good but expensive and there aren't any other options in the area. The room has everything you need, including an espresso pod machine. A shelf in the shower would have been an improvement.

It is a very basic but clean hotel. There is an on-site restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The staff is very helpful and friendly. It was a very positive stay.
Pillows are thin, bring your own shower gel, and the rooms are small but everything is very clean and it’s also very quiet.

This was a perfectly comfortable hotel. It is a bit outside of Leiden's town center (about a two mile walk to the south from the train station). The staff was helpful, and there are supermarkets near by.

Hotel here if all else fails.

If you like sleeping on a cot 12 inches off the floor with a unfitted sheet wrinkled under you all night, then this is a hotel for you. Also, bring flashlights as the room lights were not adequate and even not working. No value here!

Kept the rain off us though.

Nice respite

We stayed in Leiden so we could get around several places in the Netherlands without staying in Amsterdam. Everything was close and it was a good base for day trips. The room was quiet and the hotel was about 2km from the center of town. The room did not have A/C or we couldn't get it to work, but we were too busy to stop and ask about it. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Good value for the price.

One relaxing night

In this hotel I slept a single night ; It was an ideal hotel for transit to keokenhof .
- The hotel is very clean, with 2 single beds and enough space even for 2 adults and 1 child
- There is free wifi in the hotel room and rest
- Breakfast buffet Swedish Classic ( ham , cheese, yogurt, butter, honey , jam etc. )
- At the restaurant you can dine a la carte
- Free parking
- The staff of the hotel was very nice ; we arrived very late (after 8pm ) , but we were welcomed with great kindness (reception is 24h)
- It is very close to the motorway A4

Nice Hotel, but too far from the centre.

The staff were friendly, the hotel was ok. I spent most of my time waiting for buses. The hotel was a good price but i spent the money i saved on local transport getting to the city centre. So i might as well booked a hotel more central.
One bonus was the hotel had wifi which was free and good. i was able to speak to family members on skype.

If you do stay there, the local shopping place Bevrijdingsplein is about half a mile up the road and is very nice a plus point for the hotel. You can get a bag of shopping for the same price they charge for breakfast.

Stay was good. Rooms are decent. No grocery store or mini mart close by but there is a McD on the opposite side of the road. Wifi is also good.

But i was irritated when my request to extend my stay by 30 more minutes was denied(the hotel was near empty) as i was still jetlagged and woke up late. Their hotel their rules - but gestures like that are needed when your chain of hotels is in multiple locations. The lady kept repeatedly saying in a stern face \"your check out time is over\" for each of my request to extend- i found it v funny.

This hotel was further from the center of Leiden than it appeared on the map that appeared on Expedia. When it rained, we drove into town rather than walking. Also, you can't make local phone calls from the phone in your room! We had to go to the front desk and call from there.

The staff was amazing. A wonderful breakfast. The rooms aren't spacious but workable. Public transportation is about a 5 minute walk from hotel. From the outside the hotel doesn't look like anything to brag about but once inside its a wonderful surprise.

Nice location out of town with a parking

The hotel BASTION is at the best possible location, on the main highway, but very soundproof.
However, rooms are tiny, but modern and comfortable.
Restaurant is for emergencies only.
Main disadvantage of the BASTION: there is no elevator to go up to second flloor!
We shall return nevertheless, because having a decent parking in Leyde is a bonus; and the main city parking HAAGS, is near.

Only disappointment was lack of BBC 1 and 2 on T v which has always been available on our previous visits I'm sure. Otherwise it was like coming back to a friends house as we know the place so well. We are also very grateful to the manager and her assistant for their help when my husband broke his arm loading the car on the morning of our departure. Thanks again.

Good for overnight or as a base for a few days

Nice older hotel on the outskirts of Leiden, just off the motorway between Schiphol Airport and The Hague and Rotterdam. We only stayed overnight, but it would make a good base to explore the Western part of the Netherlands. The room was somewhat sparsely furnished, but clean. We arrived close to midnight after a long flight and appreciated the complimentary welcome drink. Good breakfast buffet with inclusion of some typical Dutch items. Very friendly staff.

Hotel was clean and very welcoming. Twin rooms only and a bit dark due to trees by the windows. Staff were excellent and helpful. Food was excellent quality and quantity. room was fine for a short stay the only issue was no sink plug in the bathroom.

Bad experience. Inconsiderate, dishonest hostess!

We traveled with 3 kids (ages 4,2, & 6 months). Apparently they have a policy that says only two children may stay in a room with paying adults. We did not read the fine print and got caught unaware. They forced us to book an additional room. We paid for the extra room the first night, but indicated we would like to cancel the second night upon checking in on day 1. We were told that would not be a problem. At checkout the next morning we were told that the 2nd night would not be refunded, that because it was an online booking they could not do a refund. I immediately called Expedia to check the policy. They said it was at the hotel's discretion. Hotel proceeded to say it was impossible. I was most upset that the night before she said she could/would refund the 2nd night, and then in the morning she said she would not. Talked to Expedia again, they were very helpful/understanding. They called the hotel while I was on hold and I actually listened to the hostess' side of the conversation while standing in front of her at the hotel. Long story short...the hotel did not want to grant the refund. They were totally unsympathetic to customers who had not understood the fine print, nor to family travelers who are traveling in a foreign land/continent. The funniest part of the story is I was able to find a room not far away where the whole family could stay and it was less than the Bastion Hotel.

Pleasant Comfortable Hotel

Not in the best area - just off a very busy road although there is an underpass so no need to cross over this road.
However all in all we had a very pleasant stay here. The only point I will make is that we did not realize quite how far the walk was to the center of Leiden - a good 50 minute brisk walk!! The evening meal we had at the hotel was very good but rather expensive we thought. There are no other restaurants round the area. There is a sports field opposite so we did hear some cheering going on but did not feel that it was a problem.

Good Hotel

Nice hotel and very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfasts were excellent and plentiful and the food at night was also surprisingly good. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, with both a fridge and a safe in them. Not a picturesque area but fine if you just need somewhere to stay. Leiden was close and good for restaurants and the motorway was very easy to access. Plenty of free parking.

I had to be in Leiden for business and arrived past midnight, so needed a hotel with a 24-hr reception and easy access by car. I had requested a non-smoking room, but got a smoking room. The night porter was not authorized to transfer me to a different room.

This hotel takes the word multi-tasking to another level. The receptionist was also the barman, cleaner and the cook!. We arrived at 21.00 hours and asked if the resturant was open. \"yes\" was the reply but the food would be a while because he would have to cook it. We then asked how far to walk to a local resturant and was advised 5 minutes. Well, 10 minutes later still no sign so we had to flag down a taxi.
The hotel room was basic but cold. Breakfast was okay.
The location not great.

Unfotunately we would recommed that people look elsewhere for accommodation in Leiden. We did not enjoy our stay at this hotel. We found the staff that we dealt with to be extremely rude and unhelpful. They made check-in a drama, and when we requested a service as per the in-room information, we were told that we were too late. When we pointed out what the in-room information said, they said the information was incorrect and refused to help us. In addition, the hotel reeks of cigarette smoke, and despite requesting a non-smoking room, the towels reeked of smoke. Our holiday was for 6 weeks throughout America and Europe. We stayed in hotels and found this was the worst, and ironically, one of the most expensive we stayed at.

Je betaald extra voor kingsize bedden, uiteindelijk 2 bedden tegen elkaar. Koelkast stond uit, waardoor er een plas water lag.
Kraan lekte. Koude douche. Uitgedroogde bolletjes. Ok, je hoeft er niet veel van te verwachten, van een bastion. Maar bovenstaand had wel op orden mogen wezen. Tenslotte toch 130,- in totaal voor maar 1 nacht.je, is hierdoor echt teveel.

Das Zimmer war ordentlich und bei geschlossenem Fenster konnten wir ruhig schlafen.
Praktisch war der Parkplatz gratis vor der Tür.
Leider war in der Kaffeebar auf dem Zimmer weder Tee noch etwas Milch/ Milchpulver.
Das Personal war freundlich und insgesamt haben Preis/ Leistung gepasst.
