This IBIS met expectations. I requested and was given a room with a view of the train station to watch the trains and the commuters. The view is a very lively show of frequent trains coming and going, and the room was quiet – noise was not a problem. There were enough electrical outlets to charge two iPhones at night and the WiFi was fine. Breakfast was satisfactory. The water is fine for drinking or filling your water bottle. The rooms are large (for an IBIS) and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. The bed covering was a heavy comforter, without a top sheet, which is is very common now. A top sheet on the bed would be nice, because sometimes the comforter gets too hot at night.

In a longer review for a second recent stay, I shared at some length many positives of this property in terms of convenient location for either Leiden exploration or travel (train or bus), proximity of some practical necessities, friendly staff, plentiful & varied breakfast options, presence of an in-room kettle for tea/coffee prep, and good use of space in the room.

But, I forgot to add one key plus for summer travel and one that I particularly appreciated on a multi-day stay in August - the HVAC system (one of those individual sorts that's mounted high on the wall) is both quiet & effective. That made all the difference in terms of good rest in the evening.

Great location for either exploring Leiden itself (at north end of the city) or using it as a home base for other journeys (train station & bus connections a very short walk); there are also some nearby food stores & a drug store/chemists for shopping needs; not a super-picturesque setting but very practical and with enough people about (and security features at the hotel) to feel safe. And, given the proximity to the train & busses, it's remarkably quiet. I've also found the staff to be very friendly & accommodating.

Based on a prior stay I opted (solo traveler) for a room with a double bed and that included breakfast (varied & plentiful options); that gave me a bit more space in the room, while still being reasonably cost-effective. Efficient use of space, with some closet & open shelving, as well as a desk-like area and the all-important (for some of us anyway) kettle for boiling water for tea or coffee. Some signs of wear relative to a visit several years ago, but all was clean, comfortable, and functional - I can live with a scratch on the woodwork here & there.

Only small disappointment was that some UK-associated TV stations present when one scrolled through the options, and that worked in a late July visit, were non-functional come August.

Very nice hotel,very close to the train station, and in fact one could walk everywhere from the hotel. The room was a reasonable size with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was small but with a good shower. My only complaint would be terrible pillows! Lovely helpful staff. There is a bar in the hotel. We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel as it was very expensive. All in all a very nice place to stay.

Perfect for train and bus station, next to a couple of supermarkets one of which stays open until 10pm. 5min walk to centre of Leiden.
Pillows are so soft that you need to fold and fold and fold.
Shower wasnt very powerful and the temp constantly changed depending on what other people were doing.
Breakfast was nice for a budget hotel.
TV is basic, but had a few UK channels.
Free WiFi which was actually really good throughout.
Overall a comfortable stay for a budget hotel. Would stay again.

Great base for exploring Leiden and beyond.

Very pleasant hotel, near the train station, so it's very convenient if arriving by Eurostar etc into Amsterdam. (Or Schiphol airport). Great views of the city, which just a short walk away (Leiden is quite compact). Good breakfast (if a little pricey). You can leave luggage too, and we could check in early. Not a \"destination\" hotel perhaps but very pleasant and everything you need as a base for exploring and enjoying this lovely city and the surrounding area.

It’s an Ibis, it is standard comfort but does the job when you are out most of the time. Check in was easy and reception were very pleasant. Room was just about big enough and shower had room to manoeuvre round in. Only issue was the room temperature. Way too hot.

I don't think it's a good idea to keep a hotel open during a major refurbishing. It was a mess in the corridors, and here and there I wondered about fire safety. And the aircon system was not working. (The reception said that it had only just broken down and they were working on it. To me it looked like they were still installing it.)

Odours, noise & unhelpful staff ruin stay

Our stay at this hotel proved to be quite disappointing. The non-smoking room we booked was filled with the smell of cigarettes and body odour, making it difficult to relax. The staff seemed uninterested in our concerns, leaving us to cope with the smell by keeping the window open.

Adding to our frustration, our last morning was ruined by unexpected construction noise starting at 7am, contrary to the 9am posted notices. After reaching out to our booking website, we were at least able to secure a refund for one night. However, the combination of unpleasant odours, noise disruptions, and unresponsive staff leaves us unable to recommend this hotel to others.

We selected this hotel for its proximity to the train station and busses and it well lived up to that plan. We also found the hotel staff to be very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was good. In terms of what we did not like, the beds were comfortable when all the components stayed aligned but we found they seemed to come apart more than we'd have expected/preferred. Additionally, the room was very small, which we knew in advance, but it was not comfortable to be in such close quarters when we were in the room together and we could not have stayed there much longer.

Conveniently located right opposite the main transit hub (trains and buses), with with stores right next door (Aldi, others) that provide you with all basic necessities and then some..

Rooms are very compact but functional. Don't expect any space to even lay out your luggage!

There were two members of the staff that I really need to commend. Both were at the front desk. One was Egla Paul, who solved a computer problem for me. I could not get WiFi access in my room, so I had to work in the hotel lobby. She brought me water and coffee in the lobby. Sharon Kraag was the other person. She brought me rolls and coffee in the morning while I was working in the lobby. They were both thoughtful and attentive, and I had good conversations with both. This was a very nice hotel, right across from the train station, very convenient in that regard. Also, right around the corner was a food store and easy access numerous shops and sites in central Leiden.

Fantastic simple hotel near Leiden central station

One of my best hotel experiences ever! Not for luxury, but mainly for the lovely and kind staff. The location is great, the rooms are comfortable and my only complaints are really minor ones: the card keys often became demagnetized and the rooms could use amenities like fridges and coat-hooks. We liked this hotel when we stayed there before. We are disappointed that this hotel refused to refund our money when our whole trip, flights and cruise got cancelled due to the Corona virus. We will not recommend this hotel to our friends again. So we feel their customer relations leaves a lot to be desired, nor are we likely to stay there ourselves when we can travel after the virus is done.

Stayed here a few times now and never had any complaints. The hotel again looked absolutely lovely for Christmas as it did last year too, with trees, decorations and poinsettias. Staff are friendly and the hotel is quiet and clean. It's in a great location and takes only 5 mins to walk to the centre. It's above Aldi and Kruidvat stores which is very convenient and there's a Starbucks across the road at the train station. All rooms have air conditioning and the beds are huge and super-comfy. Highly recommended and I'll be returning again soon.
