THE WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE!!!
STAY AWAY AND NEVER EVEN THINK OF IT.
READ OTHER 1-star reviews as well!!!

It ruined my initial good impression of Vancouver and B.C. Plus, Expedia must be responsible for listing this dumpster as \"hotel\" and be absolutely liable for milking its fees from the bookers.

It sits on Hastings st., which is only 1.5 km from drug ghetto of Vancouver and you will see same characters walking close the hotel.
Next, - what you will see is \"Liquor Store\" sign on it front. That's why Expedia shows totally doctored interior picture.

The so-called \"restaurant\" is a bar on the first floor which is adjacent to lobby and that's the one all past customers complain about.

I could add parking experience as well, but will stop here.

The room was clean, the staff were polite and helpful. But other than that we struggle to find anything positive to say.
The outside of the building was shabby and uncared for and certainly not welcoming.
The windows are not double glazed so the road noise was exceptionally disturbing and we barely slept at all.
Be warned if you walk or catch the bus into town there is a section of both sides of the street that is populated by substance abusers, we did not feel threatened because few could actually move but it made for a distressing and uncomfortable sight and is truly shocking.
We had booked for 3 nights but found a different hotel after the first night because we couldn't bear the thought of another disturbed night. When we informed the reception worker he just nodded and smiled, no interest in giving us a room at the back which would've been quieter and no mention of any refund (didn't really expect one, but a small concession would've been appreciated)

Don't trust the pictures and reviews on this property. I think AI was used to enhance the look. There was drug interactions and use right outside the premises. The receptionist was very pleasant and could see how horrified we were. We were able to get our money refunded within 48 hours. We found a safe motel closer to the Lion's Gate Hospital and it was safe.

Stayed here from 6/3–6/7. Overall, the stay was decent, and the location is convenient with easy access to downtown by bus and plenty of shops and restaurants nearby on Commercial Drive.

The biggest downside is the noise. On Saturday nights, loud music from the underground bar next door can be heard throughout the hotel until 1–2 a.m., and the bass can even make the building vibrate. If you're a light sleeper, this may be a concern.

The surrounding area is a bit rough and has a noticeable homeless population, but I didn't experience any issues during my stay.

The property and description on the website do NOT match the property. The air condition doesn’t work properly. The building is old and smelled moldy. The neighborhood that the property is located is surrounded by a highly intensive environment of drug users. If you were planning to walk (any direction) it is NOT advised especially with children. There is NO elevator for anyone that would need physical assistance. There is no concierge service.

The outside area around the building was very dirty. Garbage beside the doors and along the sidewalk and street. The inside lobby was fairly clean but smelled musty. The bedroom was clean as was the bathroom but it was very cramped. The mattress was hanging off the bed frame on one side so it wasn’t flat. Overall not very impressive.

The room was small, but renovated and clean. The bed was a little hard for me. I was only staying for one night so location wasn’t critical for me. However, the Waldorf is far enough away from E. Hastings to feel safe, but still close enough that it’s not comfortable for venturing too far on my own. All in all, I think the Waldorf has done a wonderful job of creating safety and security in their hotel.

After reading some of the reviews before my trip, I seriously considered canceling my reservation. I’m very glad that I didn’t.
The room was exceptionally clean, the linens were spotless, and unlike many hotels, they didn’t have a strong chemical detergent smell. In fact, as soon as I entered the guest room floor, there was a fresh, clean scent throughout the hallway that immediately made a great impression.
The front desk staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful throughout my stay. The reception desk is staffed 24/7, and access to the hotel is controlled for guests, which made me feel safe and comfortable. The hotel’s bar and restaurant were also excellent and became one of the highlights of my stay.
I think some reviews unfairly criticize the hotel because of Vancouver’s broader homelessness issue. The hotel is about two blocks away from the area people often mention. Walking east, I found plenty of restaurants and places to explore, while Uber and public transit made it easy to reach downtown.
This was my first visit to Vancouver, and surprisingly, this hotel and its surroundings were among the few places near downtown where I truly felt secure. The friendly staff, secure access, and welcoming atmosphere all contributed to that feeling.
The Hotel at the Waldorf is a historic, charming, and very clean property that offers great value for the price. If I ever return to Vancouver for work or a conference, I would happily stay here again.

I booked this stay prior to reading reviews and was very disappointed by pretty much everything. The entrance itself is completely locked and did not feel very welcoming. There with some issues with check in and the staff didn't seem very welcoming. Our room was very outdated and also not very welcoming or comfortable. The bathroom was dirty- you could see hair on the floor as though it wasn't cleaned and scum in the tub. The sink wasn't draining and I didn't dare go into the actual tub. The bathroom door couldn't open fully because the toilet seat lid was too big for the toilet and it prevented the door from opening. Also the lid kept falling down on us. The bed was broken and slanted, mattress super uncomfortable and the entire bed squeaked very loudly. It didn't get very dark in the room so was hard to sleep as well as it being very loud with super thin and old windows. The room was muggy and when we put on the AC it made everything under it wet. The tv had very little channels w/basically nothing on. The fridge was super loud. No microwave. The to-go coffee cups had no lids and the heat protecter sleeves were too big for the cups. Parking is separate from building in a sketchy lot nearby. The main road is full of homelessness and lots of sirens. Nowhere for loading and unloading really accept the side of the road. It just went on and on and it overall was one of the worst stays I have had. Even the price was outlandish for what we got.

Although the outside of the hotel and the area around it was a complete mess and had some questionable people hanging out outside, our stay was great. The room was clean, staff at the front desk and Howe Sound pub inside were wonderful. We also did karaoke at the tiki bar and that was a great time. We will choose the Waldorf again. My only notes on the room is more pillows please!!!

The items provided in the rooms (towels, face clothes, coffee, tea , sugar and cup) were only enough for one guest. But the staff were very kind and helpful when asked for more items.

The staff at the Waldorf were amazing. They came out to the curb to help us with our bags. They even helped us bring the bags upstairs. The bed was very nice and the room was clean. The problem is that the hotel is right on a very busy highway. Our room #108 was right up against the street. It was so loud in there that we thought that the window must be open. It wasn’t. There was a constant barrage of very loud racing cars, engines, tires screeching and sirens. It was horrible. It’s a shame that they can’t put in some kind of soundproof wall and window in there. Also, it’s not exactly in a safe area. The taxi driver told us not to walk around the area. We would not recommend it.

Beware and be warned. The hotel will send you a letter AFTER you book warning you about the surroundings. They’re much worse than what the letter says since it doesn’t say there’s a liquor store right there on the side of the building.

I received the letter and immediately tried to cancel. Nope. It says the hotel will not refund under any circumstances.

So, they wait till you book. Then they send you a letter that underestimated the area they’re in. And they won’t let you cancel.

The letter will tell you there are homeless people a few blocks away. I saw them right outside the hotel. And homeless doesn’t cover the reality of drugged and drunk people.

I certainly felt I couldn’t walk to downtown. So, I added the costs to taking taxis and Ubers. Which made the total cost more that a hotel in a decent area.

To put it politely, I would not stay at this hotel if it were the last hotel on earth.

The hotel is old but very well kept. The rooms were clean and there was a pub/restaurant right there, where we had delicious pizza's for supper. For breakfast we walked a block behind the hotel, to a very great restaurant. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The only downfall was there is no elevator. All the rooms are on the second floor. Anyone with mobility issues would need help with their luggage. All in all, it was a pleasant stay. Thank you

The description of the property was misleading, they claim to be 3 minutes walking distance to sea ports, inferring that they are near the cruise ports. In fact they are a 12 min or so drive from the cruise ports and 3 min walk from cargo ports. There is no elevator on the property. The hotel and bar / restaurant are outdated and in disrepair. The hotel is in a terrible part of town, we were not comfortable walking around in the daytime. A terrible disappointment.

Friendly, helpful staff and a very convenient location for cruise travelers — the hotel is older but well maintained and clean. Rooms are upstairs with no accessible entrance, though staff will gladly carry your bags upstairs; a grocery store and the popular Yolk breakfast spot are directly across the street, and the hotel’s attached diner and bar (the wagyu burger and onion rings were fantastic) make for easy dining options before your cruise.

Hotel is in a very sketchy part of town. Lots of homeless people and garbage everywhere. Not many eating places near the hotel but if you went over to Comnercial Street you had lots of choices and could experience little Italy. Hotel was very worn out. Linens were clean though and the bed although quite soft was comfortable. Would not stay there again.

Some rough people in parking lot & around building at times so they keep entrance locked, guests use a fob. Good breakfast spot across the street. Bus stop out front. Ok for a couple night's sleep. This is a boutique hotel with 32 rooms with an excellent staff. All rooms are on 2nd floor and requires you to climb stairs to get to your room. Street noise and weekend live music can be disturbing. There are homeless people roaming streets. Close to several Vancouver attractions. Clean, convenient with restaurant and bar off lobby and transportation easy to access.

The area is not the best , it’s the older part of Vancouver. A lot of homeless in the area. The hotel does lock and you get buzzed in to enter and I saw a security guy at the door during our two night stay. The staff member Mia P. Was very friendly and helpful since it was our first time in Vancouver, and first time in Canada. She answered all my questions.The perks are the grocery store across the street called No frills , Dollarama across the street as well and a few blocks down there is an A&W that we tried. Just in case you need drinks or snacks. They call in a hotel but it’s more like an Inn. No elevator, had a weird smell to it , not really clean. Our room was down the haul at the end next to emergency exit that was open , idk why. Our door to our room was hard to open and close. The room looked clean and we needed help with the TV and AC unit. The water while showering is the worst! It’s either hot or cold, front desk clerk said let it run for 5-10min but that didn’t work. Also the shower looked grimy, they need to clean better. No phone to call front desk in the room . For the price of two nights it Needs a lot of work , deep cleaning and amenities to be called a hotel. Oh lastly there’s a bar next door so it was super loud one night and you can hear the music all night . So annoying ! I’m glad it was a quick stay.

No AC in the room, just a fan. The Waldorf is a good place for single travellers wanting to access the east side, for the bus network. For me an earlier Checkin would be appreciated, as I travel from Asia, and just want a bed. This is a consideration the staff should make for repeat customers. ie a 12 PM check in instead of 3PM

Place was great, the man who checked us in was absolutely lovely. The room itself wasn’t anything special, but it was in good quality for the price point.

Biggest issue was the area. I was glad I was there with my partner. But had I been alone as a single woman, I would have been a bit scared. It was a bit of shady area, lots of vagrants, trash, needles on the street, etc.

Terrible location (very sketchy- there are homeless drug addicts literally outside your door and parking is in an even sketchier location away from the hotel and you see shattered glass needles everywhere it’s a risk to get in and out), the staff did fraudulent transactions which we had no control over(changed the cost to match some fine brand hotel chains and on top changed room and charged yet additional fees) we filtered the location by breakfast but they had no service and no other in the nearby area that was safe for service - we had to drive 30min each time to get there. I blame Expedia for providing fraudulent information about the hotel. Stay safe and stay away from this place.

We have driven by this hotel for years and never thought it would be a place we would stay. Due to limited rooms in the area for a concert we had tickets to, we gave it a go. We were pleasantly surprised. Inside was clean, the staff were friendly and very helpful, and bed was very comfortable! Its location made for an easy walk to Commercial Dr. and only a 35 minute walk to the Pacific Colluseum. Its also on a busy bus rout if you arent into walking soo much. We are definetly going to be booking again.

We had a fairly good stay at Hotel at the Waldorf. The staff were very friendly and genuinely kind 😊 — especially one man (I don’t know his name), but he was extremely positive and left a really great impression ✨

The room was reasonably clean — not perfect, but acceptable 👍

The main downside was the noise. The windows are not very soundproof, so we could clearly hear the street, especially seagulls 🐦, which was a bit disturbing.

The neighborhood looks a bit worn, but overall it felt calm and safe 🙂

The room was spotless and smelled great! The mattress and bedding were new and great hotel quality. I was very comfortable and slept really well. I used to patron the bar back in the 90's, and was so pleased at how they updated everything and still kept the old charm.The staff were TOP NOTCH! Very accommodating, and helpful. The area is a bit noisy being on Hastings, and above a club, but I wasn't disturbed in the least. The location is great for walking Commercial Drive, and has transit, grocery and a Dollar Store right there. The parking was such a bonus! I will 100% stay there again! You won't find a better value for your $$ in Vancouver. Totally recommend!

For the price you can't complain. Area is not the best. Traffic noise could be an issue. It is well dated but the room was comfortable. The window didn't close and was very thin. There are good restaurants and shopping nearby.
