The gym is old school and top notch. Restaurant and bar upstairs had excellent food quality and went the extra mile to host World Cup games in the conference rooms. Locations is central, near everything that one would want to or see in Vancouver, either on foot, walking, biking and public transport.

This was my second time staying at the Sandman Downtown in Vancouver for work and it was a wonderful stay. The facilities were beautiful, and well kept. The gentleman at check in was so kind and helpful. However, the gentleman at checkout wasn't very helpful in assisting to get me a taxi to the airport.

Really good base to explore Vancouver. Decent size room with sofa and the window opened which personally I really like! Clean room. Didn’t eat there so can’t comment on the food, but it’s in a great location with the city on your doorstep and easy access to the water. Only criticism is that there were no towels provided in the swimming pool changing rooms when we went down to swim, so we just decided not to bother. Pool looked nice though. Would definitely stay here again.

It was in a great location. I did find that the staff was kind -but our first room was very noisy because of the air conditioning- it was impossible for us to sleep… we changed rooms. there was also certainly miscommunication between the staff and managers- we had extended our stay and confirmed with the staff when checked in and again when we changed rooms - but we got a message telling us to move our stuff (after confirming we were there one more night) we were given a message to call the manager but after many calls that went to voicemail- we had to leave an event that we had been looking forward to all year to go and “fix” the room situation.
We took an uber each way at our expense to do this. There was a bit of an apology but it just was so frustrating and disappointing to have to deal with this! And really nothing was offered to compensate for this odd situation.

This is a very convenient location if you are going to a concert in Rogers Arena for sure! The rooms are small but comfortable bed and clean. The two restaurants are good enough and in general, the location is great. The parking is getting revamp, I assume, and it's very tricky coming in and out of the place. They were also accommodating me in extending an hour for late checkout.

Convenient location for events and downtown shopping. Tidy, quiet room, however a little tough to regulate temperatures. Entry hallway very overheated and room took some time to cool. Met needs without any extra added touches that would have elevated it to an excellent experience.

Some issues with getting ahold of the desk from the room and also having to ask twice to have room service of any kind (towels, coffee, and a kettle). The pool is super nice but the deck needs to be properly drained. Signage is poor and we had a hard time finding the pool or other areas of the hotel. I will return as it was lovely. Just a few inconveniences.

Excellent location for great restaurants, walks, and venues. Staff were helpful and the two restaurants/bars in the hotel were good. The parking lot was a bit of a gong show… There was rebar showing through both the ceiling and the floor, but they were doing up the first level during our stay and painted it… It was a bit of a nightmare getting in and out of the garage while this work was happening, and I met a guest who had scratched her rental car on the wall as she was trying to get in, but over all a good stay and we’ve booked another 5 nights

Perfect location for a quick layover between our cruise and leaving the next day — it was a short cab ride from the port to the hotel; another short uber ride to the Amtrak station the next morning. The staff was very accommodating allowing early check-in (pro rated which was fine with us) allowing us to take a midday nap. The hotel is in a great location near many nice restaurants. Overall, a great find in Hotels.com!

I’ve never left a bad hotel review before, and I wasn’t going to leave one this time either. Then the guy at the front desk tried to bribe me for a 5-star review, and here we are.

The night before checkout, I asked for a few extra hours of parking the next day. He said he’d only add it if I gave him a 5-star review. The stay wasn’t 5-star, and asking for a bribe in exchange for parking was wildly unprofessional. I didn’t trust him to add the time, so the next day I went back and asked someone else at the desk. There was no note on my account. The other staff said extending parking is routine and never a problem, and they added it right away. Nobody apologized for what their coworker had done.

The room had a lot of issues. Stains on the bathrobes, stains on the carpet, dust everywhere, and gunk in the sink. The carpet felt grimy like it had never been properly cleaned. Garbage was left by the elevators. The bathroom sink and counter were so small water went everywhere. Amenities were lacking — no lotion, and only plastic cups.

I also didn’t sleep well. The blankets were so thin they were basically sheets, the pillows were uncomfortable, the room was noisy, and the curtains were broken so they didn’t close all the way and light came in all night.
The website photos made the hotel look nicer than it was, and if staff are bribing guests for 5-star reviews, it makes sense the ratings are higher than they deserve. I stay at hotels a lot and I won’t be staying at Sandman again.

We did get a room on short notice, but I expected paying for a “king suite” we would at least have a king sized bed. We were tucked in the very end of a hall and inside the room you couldn’t even close the bathroom door without straddling the toilet. I was disappointed. And no it was not a king sized bed. Pool was nice but very cold. Our first night was spent at a different hotel that was much cheaper and had a nice breakfast. I wouldn’t stay again.

Everything about our stay was fantastic. The staff were helpful and very pleasant. Our room was clean and very quiet which was surprising considering where hotel is located. We ate dinner at Moxies (delicious) and then walked over to Rogers Arena for a concert. Checking out was super quick and easy.
I did deduct one star from the review and that is because of the elevators and the Parkade.
There are two small elevators that are VERY slow. Now I understand that we were there during a very busy time but due to my disability I needed the elevator and sometimes you'd wait a loooong time. Also the elevator opens up directly into Moxies and there was a big line up to get in so trying to navigate elevator was awful.
Also the parkade was dark, full of cobwebs and caution tape was up all around.... Not the most inviting.
I will definitely stay here again (when I am able to use stairs again😂).

Our first room had a broken bed, we had let them know and it took them over 1 day to arrange a new room for us. Everytime we had gone to the desk, it felt like there was no communication of the situation prior or notes on file. They did eventually change our rooms but we had to wait until the check out hour was completed to move (after noon before 1 pm) and while on vacation, its not something ideal to carve out time for.

The pool is in another tower but it wasn't explained that there was a cross over floor that was easier to get to, we found it on our own.

Fitness center is great, and with the current renovations, im sure the hotel will be looking great in the future.

Room was nasty food crumbs in drawers alone the edge of the carpets in the room way a thick layer of dirt and dust bunnies the need to buy an edging tool for their vacuum. There way sticky residue on the desk and what looked like dried boogers on the handle for the shower wand. It is renovated but it looks like the renovation was done like a slum lord. Just paint right over the damage and debris. There was black mold on the windows. And every day the cleaner piled everyone’s garbage next to our room door while they were cleaning rooms so a disgusting rotting garbage door filled our room every time we opened the door. This isn’t the worst hotel we have stayed at as the location is good but it was gross!!

Vehicle was broken into during the day while parked at the hotel even though it’s a ‘secure’ closed gate parking. Was told I would not be charged for parking because of this and was almost charged at checkout until I noticed it. Wall AC unit was extremely loud at night. Bathroom sink, even though ‘newly renovated’ was two small for two guest and did not drain properly over two days. Avoid staying here with all the other options available in the area.

Sandman was a big disappointment - with poorly maintained rooms and hallways, bizarre design choices and some cost cutting really impacting the experience. I’ve summarised the points below for speed:

1) there was an exposed electrical wire in our room - sticking out from the AC. Bare copper was showing and we didn’t know if it was live, but still felt like a health hazard. We reported this to front desk and it was immediately removed.

2) after our first night we returned to the room to find a note that the room couldn’t be serviced ‘due to the presence of personal items’ - this was a pair of pyjamas left on the bed! Felt like a really lazy and didn’t give us a good impression.

3) the bathroom is really small - there was nowhere my partner could place his skincare items so these had to go in the bedroom. The soap dispenser is just above the toilet roll, so it would get wet when washing hands!

4) the pool area and changing rooms didn’t feel clean. The male changing area had lockers that needed a padlock but nowhere is it explained where to get one! The towels provided were unkept and looked used and the urinals hadn’t been cleaned and smelt quite bad.

5) The hallway carpets on the 9th floor also had stains that hadn’t been cleaned in a while. The walls also had scuff marks.

I had a wonderful 2-night stay at this hotel. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and the overall atmosphere was relaxing and inviting.
The location was convenient, and everything from check-in to check-out was smooth and easy.
What stood out most was a gentleman at the front desk,Shiv. His friendly attitude and willingness to go above and beyond made the entire experience feel easy and pleasant. The hotels excellent customer service really made a positive difference, and I would gladly stay here again.

Overall the place is dated and needs TLC. The room we were in was partially renovated but very poorly done. Light switches were cut into trim instead of moving and the bathroom sink is so small you can not wash your hands in it. They removed all counters in the bathroom so no where to do hai and makeup. So impractical and ugly. Bed was clean and staff was helpful but we will not stay there again.
