The hostel is right at downtown Vancouver with restaurants near by. Staff at front desk are friendly get in late the other bunk bed are already occupied and light turn off. Avoid waking up others.

I am a frequent flyers for years . This is the first time to stay in a hostel. It is definitely better than those 200dollars a night hotel . I understood there is a trade off for a shared room but it is clean and people are nice ! For this price . I would definitely come back again

I really liked my stay here and will most likely stay again next time I need somewhere cheap to stay in Vancouver. Here are my pros and cons;

Pros
- Breakfast was good. They have a couple different kinds of bagels to choose from and then there's jam and cream cheese. There's also hard boiled eggs and assorted fruit. Another point for having OAT MILK for the coffee! I never see this at breakfast buffets!
- Free Events/Activities (I did not go but saw this was offered, they go to places like Lynn Canyon and you just pay transit).
- Highly social. I talked to a lot of cool people here despite only staying one night for a concert, it's a decently sized hostel and in the downtown core so it attracts a lot of that kinda crowd.
- Proximity. It's downtown, you can walk to a lot of things OR take the skytrain.
- Great staff. Staff was really helpful with any questions and I think front desk was open 24 hours (or was at least open late when I got back from my concert at 10:30pm)

Cons
- Noise level. Walls are thin so you can easily hear other rooms conversations. I was also in a room that faced the street so heard music until 1-2am (although they've stated that you can ask for a room further away from the noise- it didn't bother me enough to impact sleep). This is to be expected in a hostel that is on one of the main busy Vancouver streets.
- Bunks are loud. Sides of the beds are covered with metal so any time you hit it by accident it makes more noise than you'd think.

Very nice staff, a staff from Hong Kong who works overnight shift at the front introduced me a lot of restaurants, spots and highlights in Vancouver.

There are different tours which are free and held by the hostel. Nice and huge common area and open kitchen to cook. The washrooms are generally clean too. Overall, pretty good experience to stay there, and it is in a very convenient location.

Just one thing to mention, if there is a lock for the locker in the room that will be perfect.

I had a wonderful stay at this hostel.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout my visit, always making sure I had everything I needed.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the amenities were well maintained. I was also very happy with how conveniently located the hostel was—everything I needed was just a short walk away. Overall, I’m really pleased with my experience and would definitely stay here again!

Better than expected hostel stay. People are nice and respectful. Facilities are ok. Bedroom is small, do not bring big luggage. Bed is alright, bathroom is clean, shared kitchen is clean and has plenty of fridge space for everyone. The lobby is a nice place to eat and chill out. Recommended for those who plan to spend a lot of time outside and use this place to rest. At night it can get quite rowdy outside. Location is super convenient, walkable to most of the city attractions.

It was a lovely experience thanks to the staff. I traveled alone and I joined the tours organized by Caro, a lovely Chilean girl, who made my solo trip easy and fun. She has a daily tour planned for you, if you don’t know what to do, join her!!!
Chio at the front desk was so helpful and kind.
I highly recommend this place, it’s clean, organized. Great location, tons of food options around, supermarkets nearby, and the close to one of the SkyTrain stations.

Overall everything was amazing! Just the people in the area were questionable, with homeless or drunk people… That was a bit uncomfortable but everything else with the property was amazing, with friendly staff and clean rooms and facilities. There’s also restaurants and shops nearby, and very good public transit as well

The room has a good size and the staff is always keeping the place clean regardless of the amount of guests. The breakfast is a good option to start up your day in a healthy way. If anything, be wary if you cannot use the stairs because there are a number of them even if you're on the first floor. Nevertheless it was a great experience and totally recommend it.

Excellent value but there is a cost!

Okay so I’m a 54 year old married woman and not the target market client for a hostel. However we wanted a cheap centrally located place to stay.
On the plus side it’s cheap and a safe location, even if a bit mixey. The staff were super helpful (especially Grant), the room (we had a private en-suite room) was spotless and the bed comfy. Also there was free breakfast from 6am and cheap food in the evening. On the negative side the room was tiny and very noisy during the night. On our first night someone blow dried their hair at 2am in the communal bathroom waking us up. On the second night someone was violently sick. We got little sleep!
However after the first night I was saying this is brilliant why do we normally stay in hotels but after the second realised there was a reason we did. So all in all good value for money but remember it’s a hostel aimed at young people and not oldies like me!

This was a great place, but there was no air conditioning in the room so it was very hot when sleeping. The area around the Hostel was a little sketchy, but one block east or west and the area seemed fine. It is what you would expect from staying in any large city downtown. It also kind of reminded me of Times Square in NYC.

The room was hot. Like, stiflingly hot.
I was on the top floor, room 307.

The small fan and tiny window did nothing. The room did not cool down to an even slightly comfortable level till around 3:00am and even then was still likely around 27 degrees.

Oh, and there was a literal murder just outside at 3:30. The sirens made it impossible to sleep even though the room had finally cooled down.

Would not stay again.

The stay was comfortable. Bathroom’s hand dryer wasn’t working and neither there were paper towels, so that was a bit of an inconvenience. And there was a foul smell in the showers which would bother you a lot.

There was a complementary breakfast every morning. It’s located exactly in the centre of the downtown, so there many homeless around the area but it was still safe, you just need to be careful. And of course there are many pubs and bars around and it's by the road, so you could expect noise. Just bring your ear plugs with you and you’ll be alright. One thing I loved was the little fan on each bed. Just by the switchboard of your bed, they have attached a little fan instead of just giving one big fan for all the beds like many other hostels.

Overall, for the price, it’s really worth it.

I loved it and would def come back again. It’s located in the heart of downtown and it’s located near multiple different restaurants and entertainment options. The rooms and the sheets were clean and comfy and nice. The staff and the people staying there are generally kind and caring and made the experience a whole lot better. All for an amazing price you won’t find anywhere else in downtown Vancouver. 9/10 def.

We booked through an accommodation app and was not aware that it was a backpackers hostel, coming up when looking for a hotel. It was clean, the staff were pleasant, and there was a reasonable breakfast included. It was however noisy from other residents until about 1230pm and again for some coming back from a late night out around 4am, and there was the frequent whirring of the hand drier in the nearby toilet. Expensive for what it was, but far cheaper than anything else available!

Awesome location in the heart of Downtown Vancouver. Great for just being able to meet new people. They ran free daily tours to various sites (pay only for transport) and Donny our guide was awesome. Breakfast ok but good if you don’t want to to venture out and just want a coffee and something light. Bathrooms are reasonably clean. Beds are a bit squeaky and pillow a bit small. But dorm room itself was fine and had more space than other places I’ve stayed. Front desk staff were all good. Bar downstairs also held a trivia and bingo events midweek so another good opportunity to have some drinks and socialise. Being able to store luggage after checkout was very convenient for my evening flight.

A solid hostel to stay in. The amenities are great and the staff is lovely. The rooms can feel cramped though even with just two bunk beds. The beds have individual blackout curtains though so privacy isn’t really an issue when you’re in your bed. Speaking of the beds, the pillows are next to nothing so bring something to bolster yourself up with. I wish extra pillows were offered since bringing a pillow to hostels is discouraged. I recommend a hefty towel, your coat or sweater to fold and place under the pillow. It makes for a lumpy sleep but it’s better than nothing. If it weren’t for this pillow issue, which I’ve had in the past staying at Samesun, I wouldn’t have complaints. The other issues like the uneven flooring in the hallways, the room size, the cramped feeling throughout are all just because of the age of the building. All in all, I recommend Samesun if you’re backpacking or just in need of a place to stay for the night if you’re from out of town and going to a concert or appointment in Vancouver.

They didnt allow you to put your sheets as privacy and air barrier citing it as tripping hazzard despite not hitting the floor or the ladder and despite other hostels having these curtains. I ended up having the flew.

I booked a shared room but upon arrival on the property, I checked the condition of the room & bed. Mattress is in terrible lumpy condition, so is the pillow. The bunk bed has very limited height space - normal height person can barely sit on the bed. Room is very small, not airy and the privacy curtain on each bed is poorly hanged.

I decided to upgrade to a private room (no private bathroom) - front desk wrongly calculated to over $350 for two nights. I pointed out it's a room with no bathroom so it cannot be over $175 per night so an error should be corrected. The front desk recalculated it and made it to $268 for 2 nights. Still a hefty price for a room with bed only, no TV, a very noisy bar fridge (I had to unplug it in order to sleep quietly), vinyl window doesn't close completely so I can hear people yelling on the street at late night. Shared toilet / shower rooms are right across the narrow hall from this 'private' room - I hear door open close noise all day long till mid night then it starts again at 7am. The shared shower room has hair on the forever wet floor, one shower stall has no shampoo or soap, and shower stall space is very small. The breakfast serves till 9:30am then it becomes 'take away only' from 930 to 10am - which means taking away cold bagels only - but no one tells you this when you check in - so I came to breakfast at 930 and found out that no plates, no other food, and servers are busy 'taking away' jam and spreads from the counter!

This was our first time staying in a hostel. The front desk clerk was friendly and helpful. This place has A LOT of stairs, so if you have mobility issues or heavy luggage it could be an issue. We had a private room which was adequate and safe. We slept well. There were no noise issues and the shared bathrooms/showers were close and clean. The only that I think one should know is that the location feels a bit rough. Outside there is a lot of night life, homeless, and police presence. Once inside it is much nicer.

It was the first time experiencing the hostel because the unpresented snow storm in Vancouver.
i got stranded in Vancouver and stayed 3 nights in Samesun hostel
.
To be honest, i was hesitating when I book it, because i have to share the room with people who i don't know.

However, it was a really good experience that I will never forget it.

It was great to know new people in there. staffs were amazing. Breakfast was fantastic, l

I want to recommand samesun hostel to anyone who are going to visit vancouver for a trip & likes to get to know new people.

Was there for two nights during the weekdays. The rooms are small but the bed are insanely comfy, I slept pretty well and didn’t hear too much outside noise. The washroom were okay but the showers were fairly clean and it was great that it had all the toiletries installed. Everyone from the staff team are nice as well. Would stay again!

Located at the heart of downtown—makes it convenient traveling to/walking to Robson St, Rogers Arena, Granville Island, etc from the hostel. Staff were very kind and friendly. Free breakfast offered from 8–10am. Bathrooms and toilets were cleaned daily, towels were offered at no extra cost. And the bathing areas weren't just the showers themselves, but also had ample space to hang toiletries on and dress afterwards. Bunk beds were comfy, each one having three sockets, a night lamp, and a mini-fan. Wi-Fi was very reliable. One minor qualm was that our room had a fan, but no socket to plug it into, which kinda defeats the purpose of having it there. Stayed for three nights in the summer, so a strong working fan would've made for more comfortable sleeping. Otherwise, everything was great! And all guests and staff are diverse, so one shouldn't feel wary about sticking out like a sore thumb! Samesun comes in highly recommended if you need a place to stay while you're in Vancouver.
