The hotel itself had VERY cozy nice beds, a hot shower, friendly staff, and great decor. One con of the room itself, our window balcony overlooked sketchy housing and there was a screaming tenant at an early hour in the courtyard. However, AC drowns out most of the outside noise. At no fault of the hotel (which felt safe once inside), the surrounding area felt VERY unsafe… lots of homeless, drug addicts, street smells of fecal matter/pee, etc… Also, someone tried to break into our parked car and we only knew because half of the handle was broken off. Not an area to stay in if you’re a woman alone or with just girlfriends even. I don’t get frightened easily either, I’m from a large metro and have traveled to 30+ countries, some solo. All that to say, hotel itself is nice but I wish I’d known beforehand what a sketchy area this is in because it made the experience unsettling. Just want to share this for any future travelers to consider when booking.

- There's a trimer on the wall we did not understand. I asked staff what it is. She simply said they do not go into the rooms and she did not know. No attempt to try to help or find the answer by calling anyone. Did not even want to see my photo.
- Lack of hotel parking was very challenging. Staff gave us partial advice on where to park: both garages they recommended provide inadequate parking: one would only let us park until 6am. The other took our money to park until 8am but did not open until 10 am, delaying our departure from the city. One staff member offered us a parking spot in the evening but that turned out not to be accurate. Hotel management needs to provide complete written instructions so staff are not going from incomplete information.

This was an adorable boutique hotel. The area is a bit sketchy though with a noticeable homeless population. We had excellent service and the bed was very comfortable. Our room had stairs, so make sure you tell them if you have mobility issues.

The hotel itself was fine, very close to gas town. I write this review just to let others know that the area was unsafe.If you plan to be out after dark. It was a short walk to nicer areas, but if you plan to be out later , you need to take a cab or uber to the hotel. Especially if you're older.

The hotel is located just outside the downtown area, and as with all big cities, there were lots of people who seems to be down on their luck about the place. The only negative comment I have about our stay at the hotel itself is that when we arrived to check in at about 5.15 pm the front door was locked. We spent over 10 minutes waiting on the sidewalk with our suitcases trying to attract the attention of the staff inside by banging on the door, as the note on the door asked us to do. We didn’t feel safe at this point, after a 10 hour flight, it was not what we needed. When the staff member appeared and let us in, there was no apology offered. Anyway, the room was comfortable and clean. The small continental type breakfast was welcome, and the staff we met there and on checkout were polite and friendly. We’d stay again despite the issue we encountered when we first arrived.

The air conditioning was not working for 4 days and the breakfast was only a crusant and apples ,would not recomend it to other people as its needs to be cleaned and better facilities

The property probably has the potential and the ability to give a great experience to its guest but for the price that you pay per night, there are a fair few issuee, we haven't seen anyone from the hotel at front desk over two days, no house keeping, the AC doesn't work, but they do have a portable unit in the room, but this wasn't mentioned at check in, but it was only a security guard that checked us in, the tv is also not working. Positives are the bed is very comfortable and the shower is great to, room is a good size and the art works in the room are nice. I would like to hear from the manager of the hotel at some point to get some clarification on these above issues.

We really enjoyed our 1 night stay at Skwachàys Lodge Indigenous hotel and wished we would have had time for an extra night because the hotel and amenities were amazing! They have the coolest rooftop sauna area, and our room was clean and unique, decorated so perfectly. Don’t let negative reviews of the area scare you off. I’m sure depending on the day it can seem a little rough…but we didn’t find it bad at all.
The 5 minute walk to Roger’s Place arena really made it so convenient, and there is so much to see and do in that area. Highly recommend and will stay again!

The Hotel was really nice! Room was clean and had all we needed. The AC was out abd our room was definitely on the hot side. It was explained that a city power issue affected them and were working to get it up and running. A discount was offered but i have yet to see if that will happen. Will certainly stay again. Great option to go to Rogers Arena to catch a game or concert as it's a short walk.

It’s a unique property in a very sketchy neighborhood, with few tourist amenities close by. We knew the hotel did not include food or beverages, and were attracted by the native art program associated with it. Public transport was easily available, so the location was not a big issue, and we did not feel threatened. A good deal overall.

I have nothing to say bad for my room but I booked two rooms. One for my friend but didn’t expect hers was different from ours. She needed to climb a long stairs going to her room and carrying her 50lbs luggage wasn’t fun. Her towels too had some undesirable stains.
Also the area is downtown so I guess I didn’t expect how dirty (literally my husband stepped on dog poop) and people high on drugs even on broad day light.
So if you are travelling with your kids I don’t suggest this hotel just because of the location.

We stayed in the King Salmon room and it was beautiful! The room was large and spacious. We had real coffee cups in the cupboard and delicious coffee to make. We had been traveling almost 2 weeks and I must say their toilet paper was fabulous! My tushy was grateful for this plush amenity.
The area is a little rough. We literally walked by two syringes in flames, on the sidewalk, just doors away from the hotel. Once inside, we felt safe.

Don't let the area around the hotel deter you this is a great property with extremely friendly and helpful staff. The room was clean and well maintained. Would have no problems staying here again.

No hotel staff overnight, no working key, no AC
We arrived late at night due to flight delays. The person on site was not a hotel employee, but a security guard from an outside company. The hotel leaves a list of reservations and room numbers with the security guard so they don’t have to employ someone overnight. The security guard wasn’t given anything for my reservation, and he didn’t know what to do. He finally got someone from the hotel on the phone who told him what room to give us and where to find the key. We went to the room and the key didn’t work. The guard didn’t know how to fix, so he had to let us in the room personally and we never received a working key. The AC didn’t work in the room, and it was too hot to sleep in. I asked the guard for a different room, and he didn’t know which rooms were unoccupied, if any. He eventually got a hotel employee to answer the phone and assigned us a different room without a key, but at least the AC worked. I absolutely do not recommend.

This hotel is a beautiful boutique place in downtown Vancouver, opposite International Village and a couple minutes walk from Chinatown skytrain station. The room was alot larger than we were expecting and incredibly comfortable. The bathroom was beautiful, we loved the coffee, and complimentary breakfast was unexpected and appreciated.
The history of this building provided by the person who checked us in was interesting to learn about. The art of the residents was also beautiful to see and learn about. We would definitely stay here again.

While it is true that sometimes homeless people are around we did not see any near the hotel during our stay, nor does it negate the convenience and comfort of the hotel itself. Visitors to Vancouver should be aware that yes there is a large homeless population but no it isn’t dangerous. If you want a 5star hotel with security who keep the streets outside the door clear for your grand entrance then go and seek that out.

The Hotel is lovely, however its location is concerning, several homeless people and people under the influence of narcotics and an unidentified medical clinic next door had people queuing up outside making it extremely uncomfortable to pass them.

We walked into the lobby and it just stunk. Asked to could see the rooms we booked, they were totally unacceptable. The reviews that we had read online had to be false! They were so far from the truth. Even the Uber driver who took us to the hotel asked if we were sure, we wanted to stay since even he was not sure about our safety! From the orbits information, it appears that this property is a nice place to stay and in a nice part of town. Don’t be fooled. The property is a sham. It looks like a hustle. The outside of the property is littered with homeless people. As a matter of fact when we were scheduled to stay, there was one person defecating in front of the lobby. We decided not to stay and left.

The hotel is close to Gastown and is within walkable distance to Waterfront station. Rooms are big and well equipped. They also provide simple breakfast like muffin and coffee. Price is relatively lower than other hotels in downtown. But one issue is it’s near a community centre and Tim Hortons where homeless people and drug addicts gather. Feel a bit unsafe during my stay.

This property should not be included in Expedia’s list - and especially for the price. The neighborhood is full of hard drug users and has nothing to offer. The continental breakfast is weak at best. Early check in was 2 PM, and limited in luggage storage time at the end of our stay, so ended up spending much of our Vancouver stay wasting time. There are good areas of town - this is not one of them. Can’t imagine how others have rated it so highly.

Although you need to be aware of your surroundings in this neighborhood, the hotel itself is very secure. Great friendly welcoming staff. The room was an adequate size, clean and had everything you needed. If you needed anything else, the front desk person was more than accommodating. Loved the artwork inside the room and also in the gallery downstairs. Beautiful sauna and waterfall on the 6th floor. Plus you get a continental breakfast too! I really enjoyed my stay, there was an error when they were trying to charge my card the morning of check-in and we had just arrived in vancouver so we went in, it was to early to check in but they took our bags and called when our room was ready, very friendly encounter. The room was beautiful, clean and the sauna was a great ammenity on the rooftop patio, but the rooftop patio needed some attention. The hotel is very close to east hastings but is easy to avoid and also well located in downtown Vancouver for dining and tourism, would definitely stay again.

There was no front desk person to check us in. The security person was nice, but did not know a lot about the hotel. The room key had a wireless key that opened the front of hotel, but no one said anything about how to get into the room. I had to go down twice to get in the room. Also, it didn't help that someone wasn't there to explain everything. Not a great area and we had to find a parking lot to park our car which was around a homeless community. The building itself seemed safe, but the AC takes a little time to click on. Again, no one was there to offer us help.

I was looking forward to staying at this property because of its mission to support indigenous artists and the onsite gift shop where you could purchase their creations. However, I found that the reality did not match the pictures I saw online. The gift shop only consisted of a few t-shirts and wall art for sale. While the hotel does house artists, it functions more like a cooperative than a dedicated program.
I understand that the hotel has limited control over this, but I was shocked and taken aback by the concentration of the unhoused who were actively dealing and using near the hotel. They seemed harmless, but it was a troubling sight for those who weren’t accustomed to it.
On a positive note, the room and accommodations themselves were nice, clean, and comfortable. Good in-room Coffee too!

Loved the uniqueness of this hotel with the First Nations art throughout and featured artists in gallery on 1st floor. Convenient location to walk everywhere. Spacious double beds room. This hotel was very beautiful and the staff was amazing. They took our luggage very early when we got off the ship. They guided us to where to book excursions and how to navigate my phone! BUT this hotel is in an area where there are many people on drugs. When we came back at the end of our day. There was a person bent over on drugs 15 feet from us. The hotel has to keep their doors locked because of this. I had to call the hotel info line. It was very frightening to us. (We are from California) The hotel staff immediately came to open the door. Our luggage was already in our room. I would recommend this hotel but be aware it is in a terrible area. Staff even warned us about which streets in the evening to avoid.

I loved this hotel. It was a real surprise, given some of the things we had seen on the way to it. Part indigenous art gallery, part hotel, withe a philosophy that supports the first nations population. We were welcomed by Scarlet, who toĺd us about the hotel and some popular restaurants. Our room was on the top floor and was attractively decorated with indigenous art, and was comfortably furnished. The en-suite was supplied with some pleasant herbal toiletries. We hadn't expected breakfast, but the hotel provided a light buffet anyway. We took the advice of our host and went to \"The Old Spaghetti Factory\" for dinner and had a great time. One piece of advice for unsuspecting travellers I wold give is;
When leaving the hotel, don't turn left towards Main St. Turn right, then right down Abbot St. This will take you to Gastown, which is a lot nicer experience.
