Private room for 2 in good condition. Shared bathroom not always ideal but it was okay. We spent one night and it was fine. The street where it is can be a bit creepy at night but we had no issues at all.
Breakfast is very simple but free.

Great price, good facilities.

For the price it was everything you would expect.

It was clean and plenty of showers / toilets that were all clean.

Staff were friendly.

Obviously it is a shared dorm and hostel, so people may come and go at all hours of the day and night.

Nice little hostel if on a stop over, I've noticed people stay here long term too.
Hard to tell who staff are as they all wear plain clothes and they are not the most attentive, they can leave you at the reception desk for ages, aware you are there but not serving you : (

Great value for money

This is a cheap hostel which is well used and a little shabby .However the staff work hard to provide a good service . Fee WiFi , free breakfast and luggage storage included . Also help yourself beverages is better than many more expensive hotels . Use of kitchen .
Close to the Digbeth Coach station and Birmingham City Centre.

Good location and friendly staff

Short stay, supposed to shared with other 3 people but luckily no one was there so like a single room. Very close to coach station, light breakfast and kitchen use provided. Ideal for short-term stay on a budget.

The street where the hostel is, it is awfull, very dirty and at weekends terribly noise.
The hostel is old, and it looks dirty.
Cleaning people is nice and they try to do their best, but the hostel needs urgently a deep renovation . Our room of four has the floor broke, and the walls were half printed...
People at reception were ok.

Totally recommend it !

Very well received by staff and they are very keen to give a sense of belonging. I felt safe throughout and my room partners were so kind. It was a very good first experience as a solo traveller. Most important , it was very cheap and as a student I loved that. Totally recommend it to solo travellers or even friends/couple stays.

Lovely hostel in a shady street

I had a great time at the Backpackers. The check-in was quick and my single room was lovely. The bed sheets were fresh and I got towels for my own bath and toilet. Everything was super clean. The breakfast was simple and for a sweet tooth. The common area has a projector and many places to sit and talk. The bar seemed well equipped. The kitchen is pretty small but seemed to have everything to cook. The street looked a bit shady when I arrived but was quiet at night (I stayed during the week not the weekend). The Bus station is close by and also the train station only a 15-20 min walk away. Great staff. I really recommend this place if you are on a tight budget.

Friendly Staff & Uncomfortable Beds

The staff is very friendly and the common room has plenty of space with multiple kitchens. Overall, it has very uncomfortable beds and sleeping on the floor was more comfortable. The sheets/linens were stained and very worn with the most uncomfortable pillows. I purchased cheap pillows from Primark that were 10 times more comfortable. The size of the single room is great and the restrooms were in great condition and they provided a towel. There were no issues of the location being close to the city centre, but it did not feel safe.

cheap!!!

When I was looking at staying at hotels in Birmingham, they were either booked up or were ten times more expensive than this hostel, on average. I've been here before, so I thought I'd give it another try.

It is actually surprisingly good for the amount that you pay! No need to take a sleeping bag,

Enjoyed the hostel and Bham....

I had a great stay and enjoyed Bham and side trips.... Minority of other guests were unclear on the hostel concept and didn't clean up after themselves enough.... Room 20 had too many beds for the space and gets quite manky overnight.

The staff (Mishi especially) were very helpful. The location is great and the private room I was in was very nice. Would be better with a place to hang some clothes and some sheets for summer (instead of a duvet).
Coffee and tea always available. A bit of a wait for the shower sometimes, but it's a good shower.

Satisfactory for a single night

If you're needing a bed for a couple of hour, here isn't too bad of a choice. Anything more than that, go anywhere else. The lobby/common area/breakfast room (all the same room) is appealing at first sight with plenty of colour etc, and the lone staff member I saw during the whole visit was friendly enough even if a little unclear.

Our room was in the building next door. This place is your bog-standard, not at all flashy or impressive, it's just as you see it. The location of the site is in a run-down area just on the outskirts of the city centre, across the road is a wall covered in illiterate graffiti though there's a good 'Inspector Gadget' mural on it. The whole street is lined with bad quality and wrecked cars with garages along the way - it isn't a pretty place at all.

The room was a 6-person shared suite and had just 1 double plug socket for all 6 strangers to fight over, luckily I had a portable battery with me. Again it was bog-standard, what you see is what you get, it was clean but didn't sparkle, and the bed (top bunk, at least) felt a little hard but nothing too noticeable, and pillow soft. The communal toilet was also clean and didn't stink as you'd expect from any sort of public restroom, so that was nice.

The free breakfast was just a toaster put on the counter, with bread, some spreads, and a bit of fruit, nothing impressive.

I suppose as it's just a backpacker's hostel, it does its job well, so for 1 night and cheap price, here is alright. Good wifi.

prevented from checking in when i came late tho room charged and paid. Left waiting on street with bags.
& men around reception watching and listening and watched every person as they entered; intimidating and surly owner was working when i was there

Don't stay here unless you enjoy slimming it.

5 of us booked the whole pod room for 1 night at a cost of £25 each. Very run down and the whole place is in need of major refurbishment. Toilets were clean but I wouldn't have touched the shower. Bedding in room was vile and pillows were stained and brown. No heating on in room and was freezing. Staff were fantastic though and bar area was cheap and pleasant. Tea and coffee free all day and evening. Breakfast was basic and kitchen area clean but wouldn't have used it. Area is very industrial but the take away at the end of the road was good. Wouldn't stay here again, ever.

Be aware you need photo ID to check in.

Quiet, walkable from the city centre. Good value. But be warned, you have to have photo ID to check in. The woman at check in was adamant this requirement is clearly stated when making a booking, but I've checked my booking on Expedia and it's not stated anywhere. Not particularly friendly or welcoming, she reluctantly allowed us to stay saying 'this time' I'll let you stay without photo ID. I know this is a hostel but it doesn't hurt to be welcoming and positive towards paying guests and not make guests feel like they are nuisance!

Location is not very elite, there is a junk yard next to the hostel. Rooms are not very clean, neither the common room. The place has kitchen and free breakfast, but do not have high expectations. The place is close to the city center. Price is affordable. I liked to spend some time in the common room.

Nice but mouldy

The room smelt so mouldy that I think if I am asthmatic it would have brought on an attack! Felt sorry despite the upgrade this has not improve.
Kitchen is just too small and would be good if there is a sitting area in the annex building- people were squashing in to sit in the kitchen.
Not too sure if the bedding were changed as if the smell could be the fabric conditioner or leftover from previous occupant.

Best hostel I hqve stayed in while in the UK

Good location, walking distance from public transport and city center. Nice atmosphere, with most of the staff friendly and useful, besides one who was quite arrogant. The room and shower facilities were clean, spacious and comfortable. I would stay there again.

Cheap, easy but mouldy

Everything went well. Great deco and upgrade on the way but the room still manage to smell mouldy. Better curtains and electric points would help. Kitchens extremely small for the number of people using them.
