Apartment is tired and basic. It is well positioned for amenities around but very functional. On waking up we find the shower (it looked newly fitted) was not working so that was not great. Phoned duty manager (for the whole country it seems) says she will pass on details so expect a call. No call so far. Think these apartments would be ideal for 'party people' who just want to sleep. Would not want to spend much time there. Would not use again.

Apartments clean, the one we stayed in was quite basic. Parking downstairs really easy and convenient. Overall good place to stay

This service department was located conveniently about 15 minute walk from the city centre. It is also very close to the mailbox which has many restaurants and activities. The property itself was very dated however it was comfortable. The kitchen was adequate and the beds were fine. The TV was pathetic. However we did not intend to use it that much so it is fine if you are looking to stay there and watch something this will not work. The parking is poor but luckily there is a q-park very close by which is affordable. Overall this is a okay property for a one night or two nights stay however I would not recommend for anyone looking to stay any longer.

Okay, but a little odd

I never saw or met any staff, which was a bit odd, since I think they are on the premises part of the time. (At one point, my wife said that she walked into the office and they seemed startled to see anyone--she turned around and left.)

The set-up is a little strange: enter the building through one door with a code, go through to an exterior courtyard, re-enter the building, and find your way up to your room. The apartment was spacious and clean if a little worn, and it was arranged well for cooking, eating, watching tv, and hanging out--and doing laundry. There is plenty of closet space.

The neighborhood was maybe a little iffy and definitely loud on weekends: there’s a club down the street that plays loud music at night (although they turned it off early—about 10 PM). At 5 AM on Sunday a delivery driver had his van pulled over down the street pumping out reggae music, song after song. We got to listen to it for 20 minutes and couldn’t get back to sleep. (This was unfortunate, since I had a presentation later that day.)

It rained heavily one evening, and water streamed into the ground floor hallway through the exterior door, so you had to splash through to enter. (The apartments themselves remained cozy and dry.)

It was by no means a terrible stay, but I would look elsewhere next time.

No communication about out of hours check in

I haven't received out of hours check in information, and emails sent to me had invalid links. The phone no is incorrect on hotels site, and no response was received via the chat. As a result, when I came to check in, I had no key to enter, and had to book another room last minute. I still haven't had my money back for this, and no effort was made to rectify this issue.

The door lock was not working so i had to stay in for about half hour before i cousl lock my room to leave to go and meet snd my family for dinner as all my stuff was in the room. As i checked in baring in my mind we were a family if 4. We had no towels in our room and as it was a subday reception was closed and i got lucky and found a cleaner just before her shift was finishing. Or i would have no one to give me towels.
The bathroom ensuite was mouldy snd thr hooks on the doors were broken and was not able to hang my towel anywhere.
The water was running hold and cold. This is a common problem as i have stayed here previously. Overall really disappointed with this stay. Not got what i paid for and will not be staying here again.

The location was perfect for me, right in the city centre and the price was a bargain compared to the local hotels. Rooms are spacious and well equipped. There's a Tesco within 100m.
On the downside the room needed some simple maintenance. The shower mixer was stuck on scalding hot, the bathroom tiles had detached from the floor and water came out when you stepped on them, the laminate flooring elsewhere was curling up at the edges and decor rings on many door handles had come off. The curtain rings were coming loose and the curtains didn't keep out the streetlights outside.
Check-in was fine but unless you arrive while reception is staffed, there's a sequence of steps to get in and, if you don't read the email, you'll be stuck!

Perfect stay at the Spires!

Reception team emailed well in advance with check in instructions and checked we had everything to self check in on arrival over the weekend. We arrived just after 2pm and staff were brilliant looking after us until the keys were ready.

Apartment space is faultless - 10 minute walk from New Street, 2 mins to the Mailbox and 5 mins to o2 academy. The location was central and super quiet and the flat had everything needed including complimentary tea, coffee, milk and toiletries plus hairdryer.

Will stay again!

Sadly not the best experience, the oven in the apartment we cooked did not work, we were then offered another apartment that lacked privacy (bit of a goldfish bowl) then we were offered a 3rd apartment, again no privacy in bedroom.- the beds were two single beds pushed together, so it wasnt the best night sleep either. It took a huge chunk out of our afternoon/evening tooing and froing with our luggage etc

Since the weather is hot during our stay, we feel hot even though fans are provided for use. We suggest their management to consider installing air conditioners for the use of the customers. The double bedroom is a bit noisy at night due to the traffic and pedestrians on the street.

A few cons but overall would stay again.

Great communication with the company before the stay. Apartments are nice, spacious with necessary amenities.

Cons: the beds are wayyy too small. Two of my friends fell off their beds in the middle of the night! And the shower wasn’t working properly in two of the apartments. We did inform reception but nothing was done.

Overall though, I would likely stay here again because everything else makes up for it and the location is also fantastic.

First of all, it’s normal apartment then the management take some as service apartment. I stayed couple nights, which I expect the property provide the essential items, however, that was not the case. The television was not working. You definitely could book somewhere nicer with the price I paid.

A genuine home from home (with an adequate but smaller telly) in a great location with excellent facilities and very good value for money. The location is great and the receptionist was very welcoming. Unfortunately the apartment was quite tired and needs some maintenance and upgrading, plus it wasn't completely clean. The reception closed for the weekend at 3pm on Friday so we couldnt get some minor issues resolved (e.g. the TV signal was bad) as the instructions advised only to call in an emergency. The twin beds are not full size so sadly not very comfortable.

Fine but the smell of tobacco was too much

The apartment was clear and tidy with plenty of amenities to exist. The shower was fine but it was hard to get past the smell of old tabacco smoke that had clearly been attempted to be dispelled but hung in the air around the apartment. It was particularly evident in the main bedroom which made for an unpleasant sleep.
The location was central but, on reflection a little too close to main bars which meant we were subject to some late night singing - it sounded like they had a good night!

I visited Birmingham for a concert on a Tuesday evening and so was only staying for a short period of time, and would only be using the room for a bed for the night.
When I arrived, I was told I had an unexpected upgrade. The room I was given ended up being a huge 2 bedroom suite! The property was amazing and I only wish I’d had been able to stay longer to fully appreciate the suite, and also having someone else there with me to take it all in!
Was such a shame I couldn’t utilise the space but I would definitely recommend Spires and will be booking to stay in the future, hopefully for longer!

Had all the things that you needed for a short stay. Our apartment was right above the entrance so was a little noisy at times. Door handles need some attention, especially kitchen/lounge door, we briefly got stuck in the lounge due to faulty door handle.

Prior to our booking and arrival, the manager, Timothy, was very helpful and responded promptly to our queries. Upon arrival, the team of Joanne and William was very hospitable, friendly and helpful. They were the sunshine of our stay.

The apartment was spacious and its location was great for us. Some parts are old like the bedroom door could not close properly, the curtains are a bit broken and worst of all, very low water pressure and temperamental water temperature in the showers. But all the above were bearable given we were not exactly paying for 5-star accommodation.

What was not bearable and would make us hesitate returning is the NOISE. The building is built such that people talking in the courtyard would reverberate loudly in the whole compound and during our stay, there were some loud neighbours and parties. We suffered sleepless nights during more than half of our stay.

Really happy with the stay overall.

Tim and Jo were always very helpful.

Pleasantly surprised to find a lovely modern apartment, with nice city views. It was almost like being at home and not the usual hotel room feel.

The kids loved it and the en-suite bathroom was another nice surprise.

Hotels.com were a bit of let down because the £250 security deposit required by the Spires Ltd wasn't made clear.

But that was returned promptly after our stay was finished.

Would highly recommend staying at the Spires in Birmingham City centre and we will be booking in with them again very soon.

Do not stay here. We arrived to a horrendous smell of sick in the appartment, which got worse as the 2 day stay went on.

Emailed upon arrival, left voicemail with out of hours contact on arrival and received no response.

Had to sleep on the floor in the living room as the smell was coming from the mattress in the bedroom.

Response from complaint email “I inspected the room before your arrival so something must have happened after that….”

Also said they would have fixed if I’d called Out of hours call, but there was no response from them.

A unsincere apology has been given, and no offer of financial compensation for us paying for an appartment which was not fit for purpose!

Finally, no response to follow up emails to them.

Get a hotel instead, as they are clearly not set up to deal with issues that occur over the weekend.

Budget accommodation, get what you pay for

The apartment was big, clean and check in/out was easy enough. Within walking distance to the Bull Ring but not the nicest walk, so we opted for taxis. There was a lack of towels provided, two bath towels for two people but no bath mat or hand towel, so to prevent making the bathroom floor slippery, we had to use one towel as a bath mat and shared the other one. As the accommodation is generally at the lower end of a budget, you get what you pay for, cheap and cheerful accommodation which I would consider using again.

Okay but could use more attention and care

The weekend check in was very slack with instructions emailed to guests and the keys left in an open safe. The room was mostly fine but the curtains were coming off the rails and were tricky to draw. The shower temperature control is was very hard to use with the dial jamming on very hot and I had to turn the boiler off to get it to cool down. Simple controls are better. Otherwise the room was peaceful and provided everything I needed for my trip.

Arrival instructions say to contact the property if arriving on a Sunday. I did. I received an email that said I will be provided codes for the outside door and lockbox that will contain my room key. I got the email, but the codes were missing. I replied and asked for the codes. The second email still did not have the codes. I called the property and finally got the codes. I arrived on Sunday and used the door code to get inside. An employee decided to go into the office that day. Fortunately, because someone failed to put my key in the lockbox. If he hadn't been there, I may have been locked out until Monday morning. I get the key and approach the room. The hallway stank terribly, reminiscent of sewage. I get into the room, and I was disgusted. The room had a sour smell. The kitchen had crumbs and stains all over the counter, stove top and dining table. Brown cobwebs were hanging from the ceiling above the refrigerator. The cookware and dining ware were decent. Cooking utensils were broken. The living room has a sliding glass door that opens to the exterior. The latch was snapped off so the door would not lock. The bedroom had a smell, probably from the massive stains in the carpet. The bathroom was worst of all. Floor tiles that moved when stepped on. The toilet seat was broken. It also had urine and feces caked under it. The showerhead was covered in mold. There's a lot more wrong with this place, but I will stop here and say how did this place get a 4 star rating?

It was really disappointing. The cleanliness was poor, the kitchen drawers were full of crumbs and other bits of food and the dishwasher hadn't been emptied. There was black mould in the shower and there was no hot water when we arrived. The bedroom curtains were hanging off the rails and some of the heaters didn't work. We were given a parking discount voucher that had expired.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS - FILTHY ROOMS, URINE STAINED SHEETS, NO STAFF, UNHELPFUL AND DECEITFUL.

First of all, when booked it was advertised as pay on arrival, we then received a link though email to pay (we had booked via third party) saying this must be done more then 72 hours before arrival. The link did not work, I had to chase several times to get a response and we were unsure if our booking was still valid - they then said it was my fault for using my cards and the only one that could be taken was a debit card ( you’ll see why this is important later on)

Upon arrival, we arrived to a safe that was not closed and anyone could have accessed the keys. We looked in the safe to find our key not there! Another phone call to the Emergancy team on the weekend to say housekeeping will bring it down. (So our room was not ready for the specified check in time) the place was noisy and messy & others in the hallway expressed their annoyance at the check in process while we stood waiting.

When we finally got in the room, after we had been stood waiting. It reeked of bad food, one of the dining chairs was ripped, the floor was all raised and grim - clearly no one has cared for this apartment. We thought let’s just let it slide as we were in town for pride and we wouldn’t be able to find somewhere else.

Fast forward to the following morning - we get out of bed and notice a yellow stain that looks like URINE on the bed, this wasn’t fresh as it had dried and we were in abso

warm and friendly welcome from receptionist Rebecca who was very pleasant and helpful. Apartment a bit shabby with some stains and tears in furnishings also curtains not hung properly having said that it was very clean and comfortable and everything you could possibly need was provided. Value for money. Some communication issues prior to checking in but this was resolved and check in and check out were straight forward. I would reccommend the apartment and appreciate the hard working staff.

The good, clean, location was ideal, close to many restaurants and cinema and casino lovely walking around the canal. The kitchen was well equipped but I wonder why they don't provide bigger bins as these small ones get filled pretty quickly. The condition of the apartment was decent but definitely a bit dated and frayed around the edges. The bathroom was nicely done.

Great Central location

Excellent location, close to shops, restaurants and main sightseeing attractions in Central Birmingham. Lovely spacious apartments with good quality finishes, fully equipped and ideal for a base when staying several nights where you want to chill and relax and do things at your own pace.

Would definitely return and use again. Really friendly and helpful staff on site too.

Booked for a two night stay mid week. Booking was easy (Expedia), comms from vendor OK (email). Room / apartment clean and tidy, a little on the dark side, but that's city living!

Kitchen fully equipped, bed comfy, plenty of hot water and fluffy towels.

Cons (I'm being picky to come up with a list!):
- No on site parking, there's plenty near by though.
- Little natural light - the windows face north and there's a large building opposite.
- Decor - good for the most part, a couple of minor wear and tear items - door latch a little warn but secure still, some scuffed skirting.
- As others mention, there's a bit of street noise from time to time, again, its a city, so not too surprising!

Pros:
- Convenient.
- City centre location
- There's 20min loading bays in front. Enough time to get the door code from your email, locate your key in the safe and find your room, with 2 x bag trips.
- Clean
- Lots of hot water / good pressure.
- Good linen
- Good pillows
- Plenty of storage space - cupboards and draws.
- Full kitchen

Would stay again if the prices work. (they seem to vary, as with most accommodation, based on popularity)

Lift didn’t work and I wasn’t told in advance. Room was on the top floor so had to carry suitcase up 5 flights of stairs. Room wasn’t super clean.
On 2nd night, 5 fire engines turned up and firefighters came into the building, but I hadn’t heard any fire alarm and it was only audible when I went down to the ground floor to see what was happening.
