Lovely big suite with large very comfortable bed and spacious bathroom with a good shower and two sinks.
Bottles of water and tea and coffee making facilities were provided with biscuits and small chocolates to welcome us back which was a nice touch. Staff as always were very friendly.

Nice looking hotel with attentive staff in quiet location but still close to city centre. Breakfast good. Our room (in the attic) was too hot but we stayed during a heat wave. EV charger was ridiculously expensive but apparently they have plans to change provider. Relaxing short stay and will likely return.

This is a wonderful property right in the middle of Jesmond walking to the park. Staff are helpful and polite. Room was good size and comfortable nothing extraordinary though.
Obviously this is an old house and in some cases it shows its age. Note it’s a 8-10 min drive to town so not walking to central Newcastle. There’s public transport which can take about half an hour or a bit more. But is worth the stay for its proximity to the park.

We have stayed here a few times but as it was my husband’s birthday we upgraded to a suite and it was wonderful. Really big room with a lovely bathroom with twin sinks, a super bath and large seperate shower. Nice toiletries and large bath sheets too. The bed was very big and comfortable. Best of all was the balcony out onto the roof and behind the chinmey stack where it was great to sit in the sun in complete privacy with a cup of tea or a drink. I must also mention the lovely staff on reception - they are so friendly and efficient - and are a credit to the hotel.

Everyone was super friendly and the girl who checked me in was very friendly and warm and considerate . We shared the same birthday so it was very positive. The atmosphere was very calming and peaceful and the afternoon tea with champagne was exceptional. The guys on the bar very friendly. Ollie and another guy made great cocktails and the grounds and gardens were so great and well maintained. The room was great also. With nice views of the dene. Bath and separate shower and comfortable large bed. I would recommend this place. Nice to find macaroons for my birthday surprise in room.

Lovely hotel. Watch out for the night menu.

This hotel is very comfortable and clean, and the staff are helpful and knowledgeable, but the pledge they invite you to sign about not needing to have your room cleaned every day for so-called environmental protection is horse manure. It’s just a green-washing way to save themselves money.
Also, don’t order from the night menu (if you can even find one in your room) unless you enjoy waiting for 40 minutes for lukewarm pizza that gives you the runs a few hours later! Final advice for the hotel: don’t have a waiter come to ask me if I’d like anything else with my meal, I ask for orange juice, and then she tells me to get it myself.

Great location in the Dene

Very nice hotel in a great location. Quite difficult to find but the helpful receptionist talked us in and also helped with luggage to our room. Very busy because of a wedding and another big party. Staff struggled at breakfast on Sunday and closed down the buffet before we had been served our breakfast. Housekeeping is a bit sloppy. Two items missing on arrival which reception brought up. Room not serviced until very late on Saturday and staff a bit surly when asked to do it because we wanted to get changed to go out. Not all items replaced on either day. Dirty and mouldy bath slipmat pointed out on first day but not replaced till second day. Needs a good chief housekeeper to keep it tight. Breakfast had a very good choice but some are quite large. Big thick doorstep chunk of brioche with a delicate meal like smoked salmon and scrambled egg is too much. The sausage sandwich would feed you for the day. Good place for hungry people. Overall with a bit of tightening up it is a great place and we would definitely stay again😁

Fantastic location and building in an exceptionally quiet location, however is looking tired internally. The room was ‘de luxe’ and whilst the bed was very comfortable the room and bathroom are ready for a revamp. The shower ran hot and cold and was only suitable for a smaller person and the shower shield leaked. We were awoken at 0600 on Sunday morning by the room alarm, which had obviously been set by the previous occupant and not reset by housekeeping. We had supper in the bar, and whilst I understand there were some functions going on, we struggled to get any staff attention to place an order. When the food and drinks arrived they were excellent. The bill for supper was incorrect with several items added, however this was resolved quickly once I identified the error. We came down for breakfast at 1000 and again struggled to get the staffs attention and there was very little left at the continental breakfast. Once we got the staff’s attention this was all resolved. The coffee was excellent. I wonder if the hotel is understaffed?

Hotel room was very good standard and breakfast excellent, but felt there were a few things that needed attention eg

The menus for the restaurant in the frame outside the door had fallen and needed to be replaced or rehung. A small job but not a good impression when entering the hotel for the first time.

Additionally I had to wait 10 minutes when I was checking out whilst the reception isn’t completed a phone call to someone who was wanting to book a room for a wedding in a years time. She should have said she would call the lady back as she had guests to check out!

Finally out on the terrace plates and crockery had not been cleared away which looked a bit shoddy. And there was broken glass there this morning from last night.

These are just small things but make the difference between a good hotel and an average one.

We have stayed quite a few times at this hotel and always found the staff were one of the main reasons to keep coming back. They are unfailingly friendly, helpful and professional and a credit to the hotel. The breakfasts here also are some of the best anywhere - plenty of choice of freshly cooked food or a continental buffet. Because of the nature of this hotel being a beautiful old mansion, the room you are given can be a bit of a lottery. We upgraded to a suite this time which was in a more modern building at the side and although it was really spacious, one window overlooked part of the car park and the other overlooked the bin store, which was also rather noisy on collection days! The door and windows could have done with a new coat of paint too. Otherwise the decor is lovely, elegant and with a touch of humour in the framed cartoons on the walls. We will be back, but will research the rooms first to choose a quiet, garden facing one!

Lovely setting, a building steeped in history, wood panneling. Warmly received at Reception and shown to our room. Everything seemed fine and we looked forward to our two night stay.

It became apparent that the toilet was much closer to the ground than normal. Not comfortable for 5\"11\" guy with dodgy knees. Nevermind, we were only there a couple of nights and I could live with it. Looked up at eye level lights in the bathroom that were dusty and obviously hadn't seen a cloth or polish for a while. Otherwise, room was fine with everything one could need.

The big let down though was the breakfast. Not so much the quality but on both days the full english cooked breakfast was lukewarm. It didn't seem like most of it was cooked to order apart from the eggs. Whether the plates were cold or some of it had been out a while warming I don't know. On both days I asked for ketchup.. on the first day I had to ask twice and by the time it arrived I had half a mushroom left. On the second day it didn't arrive at all.

The reception staff were excellent but the breakfast staff were efficient but we personally would have liked a bit more friendliness and interaction rather than the focus to do everything as they are told to. For us it lacked personality and warmth.

Had a drink in the bar quite late and there was only one other customer. We were served efficiently but again no real interaction and the focus seems to be head down doing the job not the customer

It all felt a bit distant.

If I was looking for something to complain about it was that the bar closed quite early- although when we asked someone did come & serve us with no hesitation but asked us to sit in a different room . We didn’t eat breakfast but it looked lovely. Would definitely go back to stay again

We stayed for one night in a superior double room overlooking the tropical garden. We could faintly hear the waterfall, which was in full flow, from the dene. It is a beautiful hotel with magnificent panelled walls in some areas, especially in the Great Hall. It is only a short distance to the dene itself which is a lovely place to walk. We were only disappointed that the restaurant isn't open on Mondays and Tuesdays and the bar menu was limited. Our breakfast was overcooked and served on cold plates. Our complaint was dealt with swiftly and professionally by the restaurant staff and the reservation manager as we didn't have time to wait for another breakfast. We will return.

All staff at the hotel were very friendly and polite. The room and the hotel itself was nice and clean. The room was generously stocked with tea, coffee and biscuits. The mini fridge was very reasonably priced compared to other hotels I’ve stayed in. The bed was clean and very comfy. There was a wedding and party at the hotel, but there was no great noise to be heard. Parking was free but due to the wedding the car park was full. We luckily got the last space which i think was only there due to it being a tight squeeze to get in. The only tiny issue we had with our stay was that the room was very hot. While there were windows we were able to open, we could have done with a portable fan. This was listed here on the overview of the room, but there wasn’t one in our room. We aren’t the kind of people to cause a fuss though so we didn’t contact reception about it. Overall our stay was fantastic. My favourite part of it was the professional, friendly and hard working staff. Will definitely be coming back and will try one of the more superior rooms.

We had high expectations and were a bit underwhelmed. There was no shortage of staff but many appeared under-trained. No great enthusiasm to serve us. The restaurant was particularly disappointing, the food was over-seasoned and overcooked. The cheese board at £20 for less than £1 worth of cheese was frankly ridiculous. We won’t rush back.

Very relaxing overnight stay. Lovely. Right room with large window and views of garden. My only small complaint would be our bathroom adapted for disabilities with a very low bath and sink with and adjustable hand rails on the toilet. I do like a bath when I come away as we have a wet room but unfortunately couldn’t on this occasion which was a shame.
Breakfast was beautiful we ate in the conservatory. Would definitely visit again but more suitable bathroom to us. Excellent if you need adapted bathroom with assistance.

Perfect night away. All the staff we encountered were great. Happy and service oriented. Dinner was delicious , esp the lamb rump. Breakfast was top notch even though busy. We had Room 11 with its own cute roof terrace. Wedding could be heard at night but only til midnight which seemed reasonable. Highly recommended.

Overall amazing stay

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The TV in the room wasnt working when we first checked in but soon sorted. Food was amazing. There were two weddings on the evening of our stay but we didnt really notice with noise level etc which was great. The drinks in the bar area were slightly pricey (paid £17 for two pints of lager) but the food was worth every penny. The staff were welcoming and friendly too

What a wonderful hotel ! Really friendly staff. Clean cosy and such a quiet venue. Even with a wedding on!! Restaurant quality in service and food was also brilliant. Will most definitely be back !
