The room and shared bathroom was very clean and looked recently renovated. The mattress was comfortable but BYO pillow as the pillows were very flat. Only one power point in the opposite corner of the bed - staff helpfully provided an extension cable.
No bedside table. Clothes rack and sink in room.
No air conditioning but thankfully the ceiling fan was sufficient that night. No tea/coffee making facilities.
Noise from the pub was not an issue on a school night but some noise from the street and traffic lights.
Rooms 4,5,6,7 and 8 are directly opposite to the shared bathrooms so get more noise from there.
Convenient location close to the hospital.

We arrived a day later than planned due to the storms. Upon being shown to our room, we were told about the painting that was occurring throughout our stay. Unfortunately due to medical reasons, we could not stay with the painting occurring. We asked for a refund and the staff were very kind and actioned this request. The refund was gratefully received 1 week later.

It was probably the worst motel we've ever stayed in. Loud music playing past midnight. The room smelt of vomit. The bed was squeaky and extremely uncomfortable. The pillows were too soft and felt empty. The sensor lights in the female bathroom and along the corridor did not work. So we had to use our phone light each time we go to the toilet. The room was big, but there was no mini fridge, no kettle nor tea/coffee provided. Very disappointing.

Check in was great.
Greeting by bright bubbly staff who are super helpful.
- Room overall was not up to hygiene standard.
The cushions was dirty and digusting, with stains on them representing they hadnt cleaned.
- The bed linin also had black stains on them and in them additionally there was a blood stain on the doona.
- The bed itself was two single beds put together to make a larger one.
The room was advertised as queen. Being the two singles together do make a queen this is not the impression of a queen size bed we had booked in mind.
- Under the bed was disgusting. Clearly the two single beds havent been moved to clean under it. There was cut nails under the bed, loads of dust.
- The curtains also had what looked like to be snot.

All in all for needing a place to rest your head, it is okay.
For hygiene purposes it did not feel like the cleanest place.

To be blunt you get what you pay for and the room is cheap so keep that in mind.
I had the king size suite king size bed. 2 single beds pushed together does not make it king size im average 6ft and my feet hang over the edge, no aircon just a fan from the 80s that doesnt do anything or move any air a window opens only slightly with no flt screen so bug city when open. No fridge they have a kettle and 2 cups but no coffee or spoons, the glasses in the batheroom had not been cleaned from the last guest. Pretty awful and cheap but you get what you pay for, in this day and age spend $1000 put in a new fan and tv and fridge and the rest can be forgiven.

The rooms were clean and comfortable however we booked two separate rooms. One room was located on the corner of the building on a intersection. The noise from the road was a little more than expected. There was a constant noise in the background which we could not determine where it was coming from. I asked my friend if he wanted to swap rooms but he stuck it out. The other room was not as noisy. The shared bathrooms could do with some upgrade. There is no soap dispenser near the hand basins so going to the toilet and no soap to wash hands was disappointing. The shower facility was good but would benefit from a small shelf or wooden stand to put your clean clothes on and your personal items while in the shower. Overall the facilities were great for what we required. I would imagine that most people would not be staying at the facility for multiple days (we were there for 5 days. The staff cleaning the rooms were great. I asked for clean towels on day 3 and the staff were more than accommodating to provide what I required - the staff member even asked was there anything else he could get me. All in all I enjoyed the stay as I have never stayed in hotel/pub accommodation before it was a new experience. All the staff I interacted with were fabulous. Well done crew.

Didn't stay for the night as we could not find a close parking space. Main problem is with Wotif, who did not give detailed specifics; culminating in a non-refund. The General Roberts Hotel looked good, from the photos, which is why we chose it for a one night stay. Will not use Wotif again. When I phoned the Hotel to cancel the room, staff were friendly and understanding. Above ratings based on photos and what the property looked like as we drove nearby.

The room was not as advertised. I paid for what I believed had private facilities, as described in the room description. The confirming email shows a room absolutely nothing like I booked. To have such a room would cost me another $30-$50 per night. No hot water in the room. Room/mattress/pillows smelt of stale smoke. Stained bed cover.
Good points: the shared facilities were very clean.

Have stayed in many pub style rooms but this one was the worst. The pub itself was good, bistro food was great but the accommodation lets it all down.

Smelly room, no tv, poor lighting, bed older than my grandmothers and stained throw cushions, yuk.

Although the price was super cheap and they say you get what you pay for, BUT is this really a reason to skimp on the small touches that could leave a guest wanting to return? Maybe! NOT me. I used the room to get dressed in then left the keys in the return box on my way out, was not going sleep in that stinky cold room.

Staff that greeted me gave great customer service both before I arrived and on arrival.

Unfortunately when I booked I didn't realise the bathroom was shared. It didn't say this when I booked and I've since been in to double check. The image showing looks like an ensuite bathroom. If i had known this I wouldn't have booked.

Other than that it did the job for the night. I arrived late and left early in the morning so was only wanting a bed for the night.

Would have been good to have a kettle tea/coffee in the room but I suppose that's what you get for the price.

First of all there were no TV no Fridge no kitchen no facilities to put anything that you had to bring with you no soap in the bathrooms to wash your hands
Also no tea and coffee in the rooms at all there should’ve been an upstairs kitchen where you could go and have tea and coffee but nothing we will never stay there again the bed wasn’t very comfortable either very noisy place so you’ve just lost two people

However, I didn’t notice in advertisement that there is NO AIR-CON, NO FRIDGE, and the windows only opened a short height but didn’t stay up, we had to put something there to hold it open. The shower head wouldn’t stay up, and tap on bath was bent. There was also no soap holder in shower cubicle, and a bath mat wasn’t provided.
We had access to Wifi, which was wonderful, but no TV.
However, we were comfortable and had a decent bed to sleep in.

Room was too hot to sleep, luckily we brought a portable fan with us as the fan in the room was useless as the proverbial. Had to open the windows to let the breeze in and the noise from the pub came in through the windows.

Doors sqeaked constantly and kept hearing doors slamming all night. The staff were very friendly, just had issues with the room.

Decent stay for the price. The bed was kind of stiff so not the most comfortable. There were some cleanliness issues in the room, there was a terrible smell in the room and the cushions on the bed were stained. The shared bathrooms were clean though. The room faced the main road with no AC so it was loud in the room if you wanted to have a breeze, otherwise the room was very stuffy. Staff was nice, and the food at the pub was good! Worth it for the price but could be slightly cleaner.

Room very small, no bathroom as we thought was adveriltised on the General Roberts google website. Powerpoint was hidden behind curtain on the other side of the room not close to the bed. As I need a CPAP machine staff provded an extension cord on a long reel. This was a trip hazard when the shared bathroom was needed during the night. No bedside lamp to see in the darkened room. When we expressed our frustration we were offered free drinks for the inconvenience which we declined. We were then told we would receive half our payment back. This never happened. Only thing good was the meal in the dining room.

Would not recommend this Hotel unless you have plans to go down stairs and drink. Friday night we heard someone yelling out because he wasn't able to get in. Saturday night, the same guy was yelling again and we looked out the window and he saw us looking, then he proceeded to try and climb up to the windows. The windows do no lock either. However, the staff were lovely and made us feel welcome.

Upon booking the accommodation i was unaware that it was lacking basic things like a tv and a mini bar fridge. There is no aircon in the room, just a ceiling fan and bar heater. The kettle was a little out of place considering there were no facilities to boil anything or put the boiling water in!
In saying that, it suited our needs to the 2 nights we stayed

Stayed in the budget king room, and although there wasn’t a bathroom in the room, the room was still spacious enough. There is a communal bathroom with showers and toilet cubicles, with were super clean, much cleaner than some hotel ensuites. And we felt safe enough going between the bathroom and our room. There’s sensors for the lights in the hallway so you know if someone has been in the hallway recently, and it added to the sense of security. The main entrance to the upstairs hotel is a side door separated from the pub area, which also felt safer than it being connected.
The only real downside is the bed wasn’t great, and the road noise was really loud. However it was still good, and if you’re staying a few nights on a budget it’s a really good choice.
Overall I’m happy with the stay and the price as well, and Newcastle is a fantastic city as well.

Unique: no tissues, no fridge, no tv, no hooks for towels, only 1 tiny bedside table for a queen bed, no table or shelf to put makeup or toothbrush etc beside sink, carpet under sink takes spills from sink, peep hole in ceiling, noisy, no bedside lamps, ceiling light turns off by itself, ceiling fan turns on by itself in middle of night, blood spatter on right hand side of door in hall, on and on and on. Manager (Licensee) is a nice bloke though. I will not be staying here or eating here again. Budget accommodation still needs to have the basics!
