My friend and I had a wonderful stay at Dos Ceibas! Staff were very friendly and helpful, and we felt welcomed! The food from the restaurant was so good and we ate there maybe half of our stay. You can tell the property is a bit older, however the upkeep has been pretty decent! It was great having easy access to the beautiful beach too, a must when in Tulum. We definitely would stay here again, and I’ve already told friends and family this is a good place.

I will first start with they left me stranded at the airport when I made arrangements for their shuttle service. I landed at 3:45 and didn’t get to hotel til just after 6. When I arrived, there was no one to check me in. I waited another 20 minutes for someone to get me into a room. I paid for a superior room, and it was not what I received. I was told that the pictures shown on Expedia are different from what you actually receive. He said it has been an issue, but they haven’t done anything about it. So there is that. The rooms were clean. There was no hot water my entire stay. Not even a tad bit Luke warm. I left on day 6 of 7 because I was just over it at that point. No complaints on the food. It was okay. Not the best or worth talking about, just ordinary. Be sure put a towel on a beach chair early in the morning because the people not staying there but using their amenities will take every single chair. They will put a towel on a chair then leave for several hours. I booked a scooter through the guy at the front desk. He said it will be there by 10am. I was at the front at 9:55. For over an hour I was told it will be here in 5 minutes. When 10 more minutes went by, they would just say 5 minutes. That got old and very irritating. The people who work there are nice but that is about it. Most of the time you can’t find anyone at the reception area. I would absolutely encourage you to keep looking for a different place to stay. They really don’t have it together there.

The property is located right in the heart of Tulum’s vibrant party hub, which is perfect if you’re looking to be in the middle of the action. One downside: the water on the property is salty, and the shower pressure is quite low—just a trickle, really. That’s the only issue I had during my stay.

On the bright side, the staff were fantastic, and the beach access was unbeatable. I had breakfast here on two mornings, and it was absolutely delicious. The chef clearly knows what they’re doing! If you’re staying here, you MUST try their breakfast—it’s a standout.

This was our second time in Tulum in a span of 3 weeks. Our first stay was much better at a nicer property...but we chose this property for our second stay (this time with children) based on the photos on the site, especially showing the bed on the upstairs of the bungalow, so we would have a place to hang out after putting the kids to bed. The entire \"upstairs\" of the bungalow was empty, so it was a complete wasted space. The shower and bathroom are so incredibly dirty, my skin crawls just thinking about it. We stayed for one night (of a nine night reservation), and packed up and left. We found a much cleaner hotel and enjoyed our vacation much more. Don't waste your money! It's SO hot (I expected that in the daytime, but even at night, it's very uncomfortable) without air conditioning. We thought it would be an adventure, but the filth was just too much for us. I wish I could say that they had been kind and attempted to resolve anything for us, but the staff was rude and unaccommodating (both during our one night stay, and after). I even waited over a month to post this review, hoping for a peaceful resolution, but instead, I will post my honest review so hopefully others will be informed about the conditions of the property and the unacceptable attitude of the staff. I will definitely spend my money elsewhere in the future!

I got sick and had to cancel my reservation . I was told with proof of illness I would get a refund. They lied and never gave it to me after approving my doctor's note and saying they would.
It's been a very annoying process no one is getting back to me and there are arguing between hotels.com and the hotel directly This has been a very negative experience and I am extremely frustrated

While the staff at this location were exceptionally kind and welcoming, the overall experience left much to be desired due to numerous issues with cleanliness, maintenance, and basic amenities.

The shower situation was particularly troubling, as it was controlled by two unlabeled wooden blocks, making it nearly impossible to regulate the temperature. The water alternated between scalding hot and ice cold every few seconds, which made showering uncomfortable and frustrating.

The property itself felt unclean, and the security of the accommodations was questionable. Our door seemed so flimsy that it could likely have been breached with minimal effort, raising serious concerns about safety.

To add to the discomfort, there was no air conditioning, and the power cut in and out frequently, disrupting what little comfort was available. Compounding the issue, there is no Verizon cell signal in this area, leaving guests entirely dependent on Wi-Fi, which may not be reliable during power outages.

On a positive note, the view was breathtaking, offering a serene and picturesque backdrop. However, the location is extremely remote, which may be inconvenient for some travelers.

Unfortunately, my stay was further marred by a case of food poisoning, which I suspect was caused by the bacon served with the American breakfast. I would strongly recommend avoiding pork products here or considering alternative breakfast options.

I somehow didn't realize the hotel was eco-friendly when I booked, so I got nervous when they said there was no AC. It turned out to be totally fine because the beach side is so breezy it stays cool and relatively bug-free. The restaurant service and food was good. The beach view was lovely, and easily accessible.

Do not take a chance and stay here. We arrived hungry tired and after a long day of travel on New Years Eve eager to freshen up and go celebrate. What we arrived to was a security guard (no staff) that did not speak english and that the property had sold our room. No one showed up from the staff to help us. We had to stay on the phone with Expedia for hours and could not leave wifi. We were offered no water, no food and had not eaten or drank for hours. By 12 midnight we had given up, expedia could not find us another hotel within 15 miles that was vacant and we had to sleep on the beach with all our stuff in the wind. The next morning we ate breakfast at the hotel and again staff never addressed us or said a think. Not even a simple \"I'm sorry\". They simply DO NOT CARE. We found another hotel for the rest of the week and were treated with care, thank God. I would never take a chance on this place just simply based on pure basic customer service.

Great gem in Tulum!

Fantastic experience for our family! Mike, Marco and Emmanuel and others on the service staff took the best care of us, recommending food options, a quick senote to visit on foot on their sister property, shifting us to another room as needed and overall helpful in answering all the questions. The hotel is good if you are looking for relaxing time in an eco friendly settings( no AC, no plastic bottles for water/toiletries, reusuable linens and simple rooms) without noisy club sounds till midnight. Tulum around the hotel was very safe, highly guarded at all times and quite walkbale! Don't miss on their breakfast and in-house juices and drinks! It's wonderful! Beach access is included and its almost private! We will definitely return again!

It is a small Quiet Beautiful property with friendly staff. If you want a place away from the world and modern comforts dont matter to you its the place for you. If Air Conditioning, Wifi that is reliable and bathing in water that isnt salt that i would suggest finding somewhere else. We enjoyed the stay but the Wifi which we needed was pretty bad in our room. The fans were ok and we were able to sleep but wouldve preferred the air for sure. but this is what you would expect in a eco friendly hotel so overall we were happy.

The property was clean and in an amazing location. The staff was great and very helpful with booking excursions or other services i.e., transportation. Wait staff also excellent and very friendly and attentive. This hotel is in a great location if you want to have a quiet vacation- party scene is a 15 minute beach walk. There is NO A/C, however the sea breeze and the fan was MORE than enough. My husband and I like to sleep in cold environments, but this was perfect- we stayed at the ocean front cabana. Overall, excellent resort, highly recommended.

My first time staying at an Eco-friendly place and it was interesting and enjoyable. It did disconnect us from daily life routines. No TV, no ac, no fridge! We were kind of confused at first few hours but later on, we appreciated that. First, we Were greeted by Daniel and he was so informative and helpful throughout the stay. The staff was so friendly and nice especially Elizabeth and Miguel at the breakfast area every morning. Breakfast in the early morning around 8 by the beach is PRICELESS. This was our first time in Mexico and Tulum is beautiful. I recommend renting a car so you can roam free at your own convenience rather than relying on Taxis (be aware of those!!!)

The place is super nice locatated on the beach with a beautiful jungle experience.
My and my friends stayed in dos celbas for 5 days and overall enjoyed it however , there where a few things not so good. For example, the customer service was not as great. There where instances when they have tried to over charge us or have an attitude about us.

The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and the location right on the beach is fantastic. They have great cabanas and beach layout with a nice ocean breeze which was completely relaxing and wonderful. Breakfast was served everyday overlooking the beach with a nice breeze which was heavenly. Tulum was VERY hot and humid during our trip (end of April/Early May) and the lack of AC was very challenging. Unless you're in the ocean front cottage, you don't really get a breeze in your room from the windows and even with the fans it can be challenge. Otherwise the rooms were nice enough. Overall it was a great value for the grounds, staff, location and overall experience. Just be prepared to be warm at night when you sleep if you go during humid months.

Amazing place.
Accommodations: we stayed at a cabin with garden view , clean, comfortable, pretty. With a private space outside the room to chill and enjoy life in the hammock. Room didn’t have AC but we didn’t need it (November). A couple of fans well located in the room were enough.
Hotel Facilities: the hotel has the vibe of being inside the jungle which we loved with a sand path to get you anywhere inside the hotel clean and well maintained.
Beach club was great , comfortable and stylish beach beds, agile service from the restaurant and a beautiful beach. No DJ or music … which is better in our opinion.
WiFi access was everywhere, simple and fast.
Restaurant/Food: we went to different restaurants in the area, and our conclusion was that food at the restaurant was way better.
Special mention to the Breakfast!! Amazing presentation, flavor and served on the beach and it was included!
And overall great place.

I traveled with my sister. The room was clean and neat. The water from the faucet was too little. It can get very hot with no A/C so be prepared. The bed is too firm and pillows not comfortable at all. The hotel is nice and quiet, and has a nice beach club. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. Some were wearing masks and some we not.

I booked this property for my friends birthday and it was extremely disappointing to get there and find out there’s no A/C and you cannot use hair dryer or hair straightener. Also, they recycle the water you use to shower and other stuff to water the garden, meaning the smell is not appreciated at all.
Very disappointed. I DO NOT recommend this property.

Beautiful beach, but don't expect luxury

This was a lovely hotel on the beach, but there were a couple things visitors should be aware of (which are not necessarily drawbacks, but might affect some people's enjoyment). First, the beach closed at around 7p in July because sea turtles come up onto the beach to lay their eggs. That seemed to be the case for the whole beach, not just this hotel though. Second, the bar closed at 8:30p, so if you want to get drinks after that you'll need to go elsewhere in Tulum. Third, it's an eco retreat, which means no AC. In July that meant it was not very comfortable for sleeping. While they have screened windows and doors, you can't lock those, so you feel a little like someone could walk into your room at any moment while you're sleeping. It still felt safe (there's security at the entrance), just a little uncomfortable. The screens were also ripped in a lot of places, which meant that some bugs could still get in (we had a lizard of some kind in our room when we arrived). Fourth, again, it's an eco resort, so don't expect it to be super cushy. The water pressure in the shower was pretty low, and you can't use high voltage appliances like hair dryers. There's also wifi, but it's spotty, so the signal strength really depends on which room you're staying in.

The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The hotel is beautiful and love the eco friendliness. It is perfect to disconnect from the daily big city life and just relax. The wifi worked fine and even though there was no AC, we slept great with the fan on and the windows open. We were in the second floor, ocean front so the wind from the ocean was perfect. Loved my stay and definitely recommend. The food was amazing also and we did yoga and the Mayan cleansing with Karen and was a great experience!

Great concept but terribly executed! No ac in room and it was extremely hot! They recycle water which is super gross and it smells like sewage! The power kept going out and the mosquitoes in the jungle are savages! I checked out early and switched hotels! The staff are very nice and accommodating! The beach was amazing and the breakfast was very good! Beautiful landscape and scenery but no ac and recycling water killed it for me!

This place was really great. The room we stayed at had a beach view and we loved it. We also liked the fact that this hotel has breakfast, lunch and dinner and a bar as well :). The staff was so kind and helpful. Will definitely stay here again. The only thing that I would say this hotel is a little far away from the popular spots in Tulum such as the beach clubs and restaurants. It is probably like a 20-minute walk. However, in front of the hotel, you can get coffee and there is a beautiful brewery which I believe are owned by the same owner. Also, this is an eco-friendly hotel so don't expect electronics in your hotel, and the one we stayed at only had one plug. ***This place is beautiful will definitely stay here again!

This place is gorgeous!!! Feels like you are in the jungle, the beach is gorgeous, they have chairs and day beds for free of charge. Drinks at the bar were expensive but it is like that in whole Tulum. I didn’t know Eco meant no air conditioners and no hair dryers. They gave us a fan which worked for me. It gets cool at night so I didn’t even need it.
I would deff stay here again. Breakfast was amazing. One of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had

You will not find a more beautiful place than this, but it's a logistical nightmare. Really a jungle environment, the bungalows are just lovely, so serene, hammock on the little patio - love the setting. They filter & re-purpose water, limit electricity, offer yoga in the morning - very feel-good place. However... the services were just okay . They charge an arm and a leg for a cocktail - like high-end U.S. bar prices - and the beach is occupied by non-guests as a \"beach resort\" which in that area is less than ideal. For guests that book an \"'eco-resort\" with yoga and a temazcal, etc., to have 20-somethings partying on your \"private\" beach and spend $60USD for four cocktails is.... well, not what we expected. So then we thought to go into town for authentic Mexican food. Prepare for the three mile stretch to the turn off to take *minimum* one hour. At one point we had been in a standstill so long my partner put the car in park... and then just turned it off. If you want to spend a fortune on their drinks and not eat Mexican food or go into town, this might be your place, but if you have an interest in going outside the resort, the location is maddening. Couldn't be prettier though :)

The room had a very bad smell in the evening, we asked for a twin bed they did not provide. After asking for it they promised us that they would change it but they did not. So we could not sleep.

Trapped in a \"techno rave\"

This is, potentially, a lovely, amazing place. I've stayed here before and that's why I chose it. But... this stay was, basically, terrible. And not for the front-line staff, but for the senior managers and the owners who opted to host a rave on the day we arrived but neglected to rent the place out to the ravers. I don't want to spoil someone else's idea of fun, but to be forced to endure what for me is torture -- honestly if I want repetitive dysharmonic noise at a loud volume I can make it at home or go to a club AnYwHeRe, why on this green Earth would I choose to ruin a paradise by subjecting myself to such horrific noise? I wouldn't. But then I wasn't given the choice - the manager made it for us and never told us. Not cool.

But it gets \"better.\" The receptionist - who incorrectly thought the noise would end ~ 2 hours after our arrival - tried to have it end and was rebuffed. We graciously suggested we'd just go elsewhere, not hard feelings and everywhere else we walked to on the beach was quiet. But the senior manager not only refused but was nasty.

We paid a premium for the tranquility of an ocean front room and we weren't able to enjoy it. They kept promising us the music would stop and it didn't, and they refused to give us a refund. We had planned to get a massage there, but couldn't even enjoy the healing center, because the music was so oppressive, even in the back areas. It was a magical place ruined by the management.

The place is cool jungle type feel. I wish the wifi was better I need it on to work remotely. I wasn’t able to get wifi at all in my room. I was right next to the front desk if I walked 20 ft towards them I could get it. It’s 2021 not 2005 I’d expect hotels to have wifi in rooms now.

I chose this hotel based on the great reviews but after 3 days I felt disappointed. Had a few issues and rather than help, staff and manager were condescending and unsympathetic. I’d keep searching if I were you. Wish I did.

Eco retreat... remember that *****

Great eco stay. Amazing beach. Best pizza in town. Try to blot out the Instagram influencers and their posing. Relentless, but it gives you an idea of how beautiful this place. Yes it’s warm without aircon but there’s a fairly effective fan to sleep under and by the morning you’ll appreciate that beach breeze and incredible breakfast even more!

Beautiful location

Beautiful beach location. Great breakfast and restaurant service. No AC makes it very warm in the room and the fan is not comfortable to sleep with. Wifi is spotty and doesn't work in the room, so tough to work from home from here, which was my goal for my stay. Nice staff though!

The staff was welcoming, courteous and extremely pleasant. Food was great and the presentation was superb. We loved our room and was cleaned every day.
Our only suggestion would be an investment in newer lounge chairs.

WONDERFUL place to stay. We had the ocean-front suite and the views and breeze were amazing. The daily breakfast was absolutely delicious and beautiful spread of nourishing fruit, avo toast, and homemade jams. The beach and palapas were a great place to hang out. And the staff was super nice and friendly!

A great option on La Playa

We loved our time at Dos Ceibas. Great staff and location. Clean bungalows, well-kept grounds, and great food. Would return on next trip to Tulum.

There is an ecological disaster that they’re not being honest about. The beaches are completely unusable due to the sargasso seaweed. It is everywhere and not only smells horrible, but can give you an infection. Even in a day I was there and the beaches were covered with sargasso and the water was nothing but seaweed, they posted a picture of pristine, clear blue seas.
