Comfortable, friendly and relaxing stay with plenty to do!

My stay at Alaya Tulum was amazing, from the moment I booked my stay I was contacted via WhatsApp by the service desk to confirm transportation to the hotel and to answer any questions I may have. Upon arrival me and my girlfriend got a couple complimentary drinks and even a welcome bottle of sparkling wine in our room.

The property has a nice natural setting and full of palms, trees and climbing vines amongst the rooms. There are little notes around pointing out wild critters that may pass through the grounds at night (raccoons, coati, stripped iguanas and opossums). The beach is kept clear and clean each day and offers a great swimming spot at low tide. Or you can chill on the lounge chairs with coconuts or drinks from the hotel.

The hotel not only offers daily yoga sessions in the mornings but every now and then meditations. The yoga was a pretty great way to stretch out before a snorkel trip. There are also many excursions you can book through the hotel like the biosphere tours, snorkelling, ruins tours and cenote visits or you can rent some bikes and go do some cenote hopping.

The staff were so helpful, friendly and welcoming. Erik and Sofia were always at the front desk to help with questions or to make arrangements. Marcelo always made me and my girlfriend feel at home at Alaya Tulum if we ordered drinks he would happily offer to bring it to our rooms if we wanted and reccomended some great drinks.

Ocean front room was perfection! Watching the sun rise over the ocean from bed, having breakfast served on the patio while watching the waves, listening to the sounds of the surf while drifting off to sleep all made the trip magical! All the staff were lovely, food and drinks were delicious and perfect location on the beach! Highly recommend for anyone looking to relax.

Really great location. Felt like I was on my own deserted island. Room was like an island treehouse. Listening to the ocean at night on my own deck was amazing. Food was excellent and great staff made this a very enjoyable stay. If I’m ever back at Tulum beach I will know where to stay!

This little boutique hotel was like staying in a wellness focused luxury treehouse in the jungle. We absolutely loved our stay. Lush greenery all around and from every window view. A gorgeous beach with excellent beachside loungers, towels, and a bar. The staff and service were exceptional at every moment of our stay. The AC also worked very well during our December visit.

We stayed in a garden view room with a kitchenette. The cooking tools were minimal but enough to prep simple meals for two. The tacos and Pina Coladas at the onsite restaurant were delicious. Real ingredients and handmade tortillas. We enjoyed the morning yoga class as well. We can’t wait to return to this beautiful and slightly rustic refuge.

Note: Rooms on the ground level are recommended for folks that have challenges with stairs. As two 40 year old fit and able-bodied folks, we did fine getting up the spiral staircase to the upper levels of the main building thanks to help from the staff with our luggage.

It was even better than the pictures! Such a well maintained stunning property, loved being on the top level with garden view was lovely and if you walked around the balcony you could see partial ocean view. The staff were super attentive and remembered you and were there to help with a smile. The restaurant food was lovely, and right across the street we had options of poke, açaí, tacos and a bar. Loved being able to visit the sister property Ahau (10 min walk) which is a larger hotel, the food is more diverse there but more expensive obvi. I think Alaya is more family appropriate and recommend Ahau for adults. Both have a clean white sand beachfront. Will def visit these properties again. We took our two yr old and we Loved loved our stay! Def recommend.

As soon as we checked in we were greeted with mosquitos! Don’t go here if you don’t want to get eaten alive! We initially booked the apartment suite because we wanted more room. We were told that Expedia “upgraded” us but the room they “upgraded” us to was smaller and most of the outlets in the room didn’t work. We wanted a refrigerator brought up for water and it started leaking into the floor. We were also told that breakfast was included in the “upgrade” but after receiving the breakfast we were given a bill and told that it wasn’t included. That was the final straw for us so we checked out and asked for our money back in which we were told we could not be refunded. After Expedia tried to contact them several times about the matter they never responded and I never got my money back. Tulum is dead and not a lot going on so I would steer clear of Tulum and this property unless you want to party with the mosquitoes.

Cute property. Well maintained. Staff courteous and helpful. Breakfast was fresh and simple, not many options. Rooms clean and beautifully decorated. Close to restaurants walkable felt safe in the area. The view was magnificent. You could walk out directly to the beach, which was just a few steps away. View were welcomed with a bottle of champagne on arrival. Beds were comfortable.
My only complaint is the mosquitoes, but the staff used citronella candles and offered bug repellent lotion/sprays. We visited in September, but apparently that is a breeding season of the mosquitoes. I don’t know if some sort of mosquito repellent sprays by pest control could be done.
But overall pleasant stay. Will definitely come back and stay at the property..

The place itself was beautiful, but the beach was dirty and smelled terrible, so I couldn’t even use it. On top of that, the breakfast situation was a complete disappointment. I booked this hotel because it advertised breakfast included, yet when I asked, they only offered me coffee and said I had to pay for everything else. That’s misleading and unacceptable. Because of this, I refused to eat any meals at the hotel.

The prices were ridiculously high for tourists. Even the taxis arranged by the hotel were outrageously expensive, clearly taking advantage of visitors.

Yes, the location is nice, but I would never recommend this hotel. I wasted a lot of money in a very short time and left feeling completely frustrated. Definitely not worth it.

I’m sad writing this review as our week at Alaya has come to an end. It was a magical trip highlighted with the most beautiful hotel and the kindest most wonderful staff. Silvestre, Daniel, Mitsubishi, Stephan, Jonathan, Hugo, Macario and everyone else added to the magic! At the press of a button our every need was attended to with a smile and they made our trip so special. We travel frequently and love exploring new destinations but we already agreed we will be back next year. The beach, the room and the location all could not have been any better. We dined at Michelin rated restaurants as well as food trucks, all walking distance and it was all amazing! Thank you to the lovely staff and we will see you again next year.

We absolutely loved it here! It’s beachfront, & the beach & sun lounges were amazing. You can order food & drinks from the beach - there are servers there. The breakfast was very good. We had the family room with 2 twin beds & the main bed is definitely a full size bed & not the advertised queen. The aircon worked really well. It did take the shower a little while to heat up tho’. They provide robes, but no slippers. The whole property is very rustic as you can see. It was a great stay. I do think it can use a smidge of a refurbishment tho - really just the bathroom sink & shower, but yes, we would stay again.

If you’re looking for a quiet retreat this is not the place . We were in the garden room right next to the kitchen. I heard the kitchen utensils and pots and pans, banging until late into the evening when the kitchen closed and then early in the morning and late at night I could hear children, crying, and scream screaming around us. More of a family retreat. There was only one restaurant on site however, if you wanted to go and choose other restaurants, you could walk along the streets and find other restaurants. It was just a little inconvenient.

Great cozy hotel right on the beach. Truly an amazing experience. The only downfall is since it’s on the beach you can only get to the hotel by taxi and it cost $30-$40 for every time you enter and leave the area to go into the city. And taxi drivers are always trying to maximize how much they charge. For that reason alone I will not stay in the beach area again. That was too frustrating. The first night I arrive the taxi drivers went on strike and there wasn’t any taxis available the second day I was in Tulum. I felt trapped. Be ready to spend a lot of money on their food as well. My friend and I would spend $60-$90 on breakfast alone at the hotel. I will say the food is super clean. They offer all healthy choices. They offer you one free healthy drink a day .i chose a shot of tumeric and ginger. Waking up on the beach was also breathtaking. The stars at night are amazing.

This place is really perfect. A great location within walking distance to the restaurants and shops but also quiet and laid back to relax at the absolutely gorgeous beach. The property is wonderful. It is a small place, it is surrounded by jungle plants, white sand and the turquoise sea is steps away. The small houses and spacious rooms are beautiful. One thing to keep in mind is that AC is off between 8:30am and 6:30pm. We are used to having AC on all day at our home but honestly we were not bothered by this limitation. I really don’t want to write this review so that too many people find out about this little gem. I would not hesitate to stay here again when in Tulum.

My stay at Alaya Tulum was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the beauty and tranquility of this incredible place. The entire property is impeccably maintained, with attention to detail evident in every corner. The lush greenery, the artfully designed spaces, and the serene beachfront created an atmosphere of pure relaxation.

The service was exceptional from start to finish. Stefan helped us with reservations and the lady who assisted us at check-in were incredibly welcoming, making sure we felt at home right away with a special upgrade to an ocean front room and some champagne and strawberries. Their warmth and professionalism set the tone for the rest of our stay.

Throughout our time at Alaya, the entire service staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Whether it was the delicious meals, the perfectly maintained rooms, coffee brought to us in the morning. Simply lovely.

Cleanliness was impeccable, and the care taken in maintaining the property added to the overall sense of serenity and luxury. The combination of beautiful surroundings, outstanding service, and those special little touches made our stay at Alaya Tulum an unforgettable experience. Alaya was perfect for our short getaway. The room we had was an ocean front, second level, full view and it was absolutely perfect. One of the best rooms I’ve ever stayed in, and I do consider myself well travelled. We really needed the break and so the sound of the waves, the sun warming you and waking you in the morning, it felt like heaven. The hotel was the perfect size for us- small and right up close to the beach. We enjoyed the free yoga in the morning and the teacher was great. She went through it very slow since we’re beginners. The drinks were fab, food delicious, staff was very nice and attentive. Ronnie was super kind, him and Henry made it a good time on the beach with wonderful service and cocktails. Stefan at the front desk was very thorough with information, he cared and wanted to make it a wonderful stay for us. Chakra session with Georgina was life changing! Seriously, if you’re ready, don’t miss out! The Mayan Clay massage was wonderful and relaxing. Loved Alaya! We don’t get to take adult only trips often but we would love to say we’ll be back in the future! Thank you Alaya team

We had an amazing 2 day stay at Alaya. Front desk staff were so helpful. Daily yoga at 9am was an excellent offering that even my 5 year old son was welcomed. Parking was super convenient and the location of Alaya in my opinion was fantastic. Perfectly walkable to surrounding restaurants and the overall property had an amazing atmosphere. Celebrated our 9 year wedding anniversary which Alaya staff made even more special. I cannot say more other than I highly recommend.

I didn’t like that we were not able to ungrade our room when the facility was super empty. There wasn’t many people there when we stayed and apparently they didn’t have availability for room upgrade. We got a room that was located right above the reception area. There was also a lot sea weed at the shore.

This hotel might be alright for some, but be aware of a few drawbacks.

First, the advertised photos don't accurately reflect the condition of the hotel.

Second, if you value peace and quiet, this might not be the best choice. There's limited noise insulation, and we were unfortunately disturbed every night by loud guests upstairs. Despite repeated complaints to the management, the issue wasn't addressed, significantly impacting our sleep quality.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to travelers seeking a relaxing and quiet stay.

We were a group of girls staying, felt like the people at reception were slightly intrusive. They kept an eye on our every move, which was a bit weird and made comments on what we had done in our room. The resort overall was nice and the beach was lovely, although there were heaps of seaweed they were not getting rid of.

I loved the vibe of this hotel, calm and relaxing which is opposite of the party vibe in tulum. The staff is incredibly helpful and kind. I did a yoga class that was fantastic with a wide open and breeze room. The chef was kind enough to prepare a simple meal for my husband who had a stomach bug. Gaby went out of her way to bring my breakfast out to the beach :) Tulum has really changed from our last trip 7 years ago and it feels super busy but this hotel makes you feel very relaxed! loved it

The staff and location of Alaya is what makes this property an amazing stay.

Stefan from the front desk was very friendly and helpful. He guided us through the best tourist spots, dining options and accommodated all of our requests making us feel like VIPs.

The yoga and soundbath session was also extremely relaxing!

Five star resort, felt like a two star experience.

I was extremely dissapointed in the way that the staff manage the loss of my headphones. Since it’s a five star resort, I’m expecting a five star service with every situation prestened. I left my headphones in my room the day that I checked out. I could see in find my iPhone that the headphones were at the resort, I let them know inemediatly, and for three days I provided the staff the location as I could see the headphones had left the hotel. The response from the staff was quite complaisant as I was told there was nothing that it could be done. This is not two star service not even one. Not only I will not be going back to your hotel, but I would be informing my friends to frequent your hotel to find another resort, since it’s not a safe place to be staying at.
