Amansala is a beautiful hotel with great staff, awesome beach club, and lovely rooms and ambience. Although, it is noisy! We were woken up each morning to grunting and barking and coaching from the retreat classes over a microphone that echoed throughout the hotel grounds. So, if you are booking a room here as a non-retreat guest, beware. There was also frequent construction going on behind our room. All this to say it was a beautiful place to stay, the main downside was the noise.

While we loved the beautiful beach and Amansala hotel property, we were disappointed with our overall experience and with our accommodations even after moving rooms. The hotel is situated on a busy road, with ATVs and trucks passing at all hours and the first room we were in #23 was directly on the road. The second room was a musty, small ground level room with a bed so hard we had to sleep on beach furniture. While many staff were kind, ultimately the communication from the hotel was scattered and disorganized and we felt like the guest experience wasn’t a priority. We paid too much for the value of what we received here.

The hotel is good for the amazing position on the beach. The accommodations are are good although AC is not available 24h for the rate at booking. You will need to pay extra if you want AC. Also to note; the included breakfast advertised in booking is not a complete breakfast, only coffee and fruit is included. A full breakfast will be additional charge, even then its just eggs and bread. The description for “breakfast included” is inaccurate as presented, its not even a standard continental breakfast.

Loved how quiet and lovely the grounds are. One small recommendation is that the chair fabric does need to be changed out regularly, as this is a dog friendly property and i noticed many dogs marking their territories in the backs of the beach chairs.

The staff are amazing. They were always willing to help and went out of their way to make our stay better.

The resort is located at the busy beach front area. Street can be a bit congested but with the provided parking space, we had no issue with parking.

The only thing to be aware of is no AC from 9am to 8pm unless pay an extra $25 per day. Understandable it's to conserve energy. It can be grilling in summer. But if you are out exploring and not in the hotel it's not an issue. Will recommend to get a room with window facing the beach so the wind will cool down the room fast even without AC.

I highly recommend staying at Amansala. I was traveling solo to Tulum. The staff is beyond incredible and helpful. Gorje from front desk, Brenda, Ceci, Nato, Michelle and everyone else who was working during my stay went out of their way to make me feel welcome and safe. They made the best suggestions as to where to go and what to do as a solo traveler. The food at hotel was farm to table and reasonably priced, the beach area is stunning and my room was perfect for my needs. The vibe was low key and away from the business of the hotel zone. I rented a bike and was able to go around the hotel zone and explore all the restaurants and coffee shops, etc. I can’t wait to be back!

This was our second visit to Amansala, and probably our last. At least for a while. On our first visit, my wife and I picked this property because it's located in a relatively calm part of Tulum's beach - which can be noisy if you are not careful - and it offered a good amount and variety of wellbeing activities (yoga, some fitness classes, etc.) and food options. On this second visit, none of those activities were available. There were no fitness classes, no yoga, no guided meditations, and, to make things worse, they tried to skimp on the breakfast saying that their definition of \"Continenatl breakfast\" does not include bread. Yes, that's right. Bread. On our first morning in Amansala, they tried to make us pay $5 for 2 pieces of toasted supermarket Bimbo-like bread. We contacted Expedia's concierge service, and they immediately backtracked. Also, be aware that you will have to pay $25 per day if you want to use the AC during daytime hours, and about $40-$50 per person for OK-but-not-great lunch or dinner. The fact that we visited during low season may have impacted the level or service, or maybe it's a bad management issue. Whichever it is, Tulum is in the midst of big changes, and not all of them are for the better. They are trying to cater to a more exclusive crowd by hiking up prices on everything, but the service is not there yet (i.e. we regularly paid $50-$100 per person for pretentiously plated but mind-numbingly mediocre food). Beware.

It wasn't stated in the reservation that you had to pay extra for air conditioning if you want it running during the day. It also smelled very bad of sewage. You are charged for every little thing. I would not recommend Tulum for a relaxing vacation.

- nice architecture, pool, and general facilities
- communication was fast
- good food and drinks sold at restaurant/bar
- well situated on beach and near a couple of other stores/restaurants
- staff made an effort to clear seaweed from beach

Cons:
- had to move rooms because our first’s view was completely obscured by plastic sheet
- construction work through the second day until 7pm in the room below ours was extremely loud and disruptive
- toilet broke during stay
- front desk refused to help us organise any transport other than to or from Cancún airport (which we declined as they were charging $210 each way), and even refused to suggest reliable local drivers/taxi services
- included breakfast was pretty meagre (scrambled eggs, nachos, fruit, or chia)
- restaurant/bar was all priced at inner city US prices
- seaweed was only cleared to the sides of the resort, so the whole place smelled of rotting seaweed for the duration of our stay
- beach sellers were extremely common, which we expected, but the hotel staff were happy to let them come up in to the restaurant and resort

All in all we felt the pros and cons netted out, but given that we paid $2090 for three nights in the resort, no services or excursions included, we expected a significantly better experience!

-This hotel, and this part of Tulum, are wildly overpriced. Paid about $400 night and assumed we would get what we paid for. We did not.

My stay at Amansala was unfortunately not pleasant. I was to be there for a yoga retreat which was cancelled and I couldn’t cancel for the one night I was supposed to stay there.
Waiting to check in, I wasn’t acknowledged for nearly 10 mins. Finally when I asked I was told ‘I’m the only one here’ so you just have to wait.
Luggage in tow, tired from a flight, I waited. When I finally could check in and asked about any amenities or yoga classes, everything was ‘extra’ or ‘private session’ For being a wellness based resort, I feel that’s a little disappointing. No classes on-site which are complimentary for your guests? Nope. Nothing.
That night, the mosquitos in the room were killer - upon asking they sprayed the room but that didn’t help. They said they did not have mosquito nets which go above bed. I pretty much ventured out on my own the next day and when I came back a sweaty mess from the humidity and asked if they had any water, I was told to go back and buy a bottle from the bar. I mean…I could go on and on but this was so sorely disappointing since I was there for a wellness related trip. The hospitality was below par - especially for a wellness based resort - whose mission is to make people feel better. At the least a courteous hello upon entering the hotel would be nice.

I love the design of this hotel. They have the. best beachfront deck. It has the best location as. you can easily go out at night or explore from here. but not where the traffic can be so bad up the road. The food was great. I loved the ceviche. My room was well designed. Staff was super helpful. Will defiitely be back!

Loved our stay!!! The rooms are lovely and clean with nice storage to organize everything I brought. We had a garden villa and the AC cooled the room very well at night once the AC was turned on. Nestor arranged for an upgraded room for several nights for my birthday! The beach view room was very spacious and comfortable and we could see the sunrise every morning. Vinyasa Flow Yoga with Carlo and Diana was great and The Yoga Mala class on Sunday… fantastic! We had breakfast included and it was consistently delicious. My massage with Laura was just perfect, and my mani/pedi with a different Laura was relaxing and turned out beautifully. I made a friend in a he boutique that helped me find the perfect dress and I was so happy to see her again and again. Oh yeah… the bikes navigated the bumpy road just great. We couldn’t be happier with the accommodations, location, staff, amenities and food. Muchas Gracias Amansala!!

I cannot say enough great things about Amansala. My stay exceeded all of my expectations. The hotel grounds were beautiful, straight out of a magazine. Just a total bohemian, authentic, aesthetically pleasing, tropical paradise. The staff were constantly wiping down all surfaces, brushed off all lounge chairs, and wore masks for those concerned with Covid. They have Covid testing on site so you don’t even have to leave the hotel. The food and drink was outstanding, all of it. The spring rolls and cappuccinos were to die for. Extensive menu. Free breakfast! The staff was so helpful and accommodating. Anything at all that we needed they were right on hand to help. Super nice. I even needed change with the taxis (because most don’t have change, crazy I know) and they paid for my taxi! I can’t wait to come back. If you’re contemplating staying here, DO IT. You won’t be disappointed. P.S. I felt totally safe in Tulum!

Amansala has changed over the years and not necessarily for the better. It has become overrun with \"instagrammers\" and loud partiers. The managers defer to anyone who they think is famous or wealthy, regardless of their poor behaviour in public. Treat everyone with respect is not the motto anymore at this hotel. However, big shout out to the hardworking servers and cleaning staff.

My stay at Amansala was overall a pleasant one.

The staff was very attentive and responsive. I particularly liked that there was a phone number which you could text with if you had any questions or issues or requests throughout your stay. The staff all wore masks.

The food was delicious but the lunch and dinner menu can be somewhat pricey. I stayed during Jan 2021 and the hotel and beach was somewhat empty, so there was definitely a lot of space to social distance.

The hotel is located in the busy, bustling area of Tulum. The location is pretty central from downtown, attractions (ruins/cenotes) and other hotels on the strip.

The room is very nicely decorated but ours (a beachfront king) looked a bit rundown inside. There is a screen door and netting around the bed which is a big plus if you want to avoid getting bit by mosquitos. The rooms have a safe but no hairdryer and the AC is only allowed to be in use between 9pm to 7am but we really didn't need to use it during our stay.

So, I paid $1721 for 4 nights via hotel.com fro 12/28 - 01/01/2020. Fine, I understand that it is peak time and hotels are expensive. But Amansala emails me to threaten me that they are going to cancel my reservation unless I paid an extra $367.48 dollars , stating that hotels.com had the wrong price but now it is my responsibility to pay extra or I would lose the room! So in total I paid $2088 for 4 nights in this hotel with very bad service! The AC only works from 10pm - 7am and sometimes it does not work at all. The flush was constantly broken. People at the front desk don't know and can't really help you and are confused half the time. They were seriously so confused and really bad service.

The staff in this hotel aren’t given the credit they deserve from the management.
We stayed in the Amansala Chica - and Atika was amazing at looking after us, especially when we had a few issues upon arrival (building work, gave us wrong room). Also the guys at the front desk and the bar are excellent.
Once everything was sorted we loved our stay - it’s a great location, with good food and atmosphere.
(Although it did feel like you’re less of a priority from management if you’re not part of the ‘bikini boot camp’).
Overall though would definitely recommend.

We had a good experience at Amansala. Staff were friendly, food was good and the location is excellent. We were there during a sargassum washout, but the hotel made sure that the impact on guests was limited. The only downfall was that aircon was only operational from 22:00 - 07:00, but overall we had a great stay. Thanks !

This was a huge disappointment!
There was a septic tank directly below my room which was leaking, and there was actual poop coming out of the ground which the staff confirmed. The guy at the front desk said he would never stay in the room i was given because the smell was so terrible. If the staff wont stay there, why are they putting guests there? I asked for a new room and was never granted one, and ended up sleeping in my friend's room because the smell was so awful I couldn't be in my room for even one minute!!! In addition, they claim they will turn the AC on at night, but they never did and it was extremely hot, and there were no blinds or curtains on the windows so once you got out of the shower, you were completely exposed to the rest of the guests.
This was a huge disappointment and a huge waste of money and I would never recommend this to anyone!

We enjoyed the peacefulness of this property. The pool was very nice to enjoy. The staff was amazing at accommodating to our needs such as a room change and they were always very friendly. Really loved that the cabanas were all on stilts to not disturb turtle mating season, truly an eco-chic hotel that is conscious about their environmental footprint.

The location was amazing. Food was good! The service and friendliness wasn’t good this was more from the trainers and non Mexican people. There was no extra effort to be kind. Wasn’t sure what was wrong the place is so beautiful but the energy of the people running it are void of personality and hospitality. Air conditioner did not work. We got sick. There was no one there to help in the middle of the night. Turns out 4 others got sick there too! Nothing could ruin my vacation but if I didn’t have a positive attitude it might of. I wanted to love the place. But it was challenging.

Amansala is a beautiful hotel which offers yoga classes and amazing food! The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay. The beds are very comfortable and hit water in the showers. The roads closer to the road side can be noisy but the ones overlooking the ocean are divine.

Best Beach Lounging in Tulum

Stayed here with a group of girlfriends (4 total) for 6 days over thanksgiving and we all really enjoyed our stay. We initially came with the intention of doing intense yoga every day--but ended up spending most of our time on the beach. I've stayed at several other hotels in the Tulum beach area (at least 4 others) over the last 2 years, and can definitively say that Amansala has the BEST set up for beach lounging. Those huge beach bed things are amazing, and the food is delicious! The wifi signal is pretty strong at the beach club too (and so are the cocktails)! This review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the fantastic and attentive staff, both at the restaurant / beach-club, and throughout the hotel. Thank you for a really great experience!!

We recently stayed at Amansala for two nights after spending three nights at another Tulum hotel. The stay at Amansala was not worth what we paid and no where comparable to our stay at the first hotel which was cheaper. We booked a backyard view room which did not have a view and was right by the street so we heard cars and motorcycles the whole night. The room did not look like the one in the photos. Not what we had in mind when coming to Tulum to rest and relax. Also the manager Melissa was rude and the front desk staff apparently are not empowered to do anything for their customers.

The property was in a great location on the beach. Upon arrival, they offered us the option to upgrade to a different room. Luckily, they had a view with a beach front - it cost an extra $500 but it was worth it. They told us to go back in an hour so they could prep the room and when we went back after two hours, the room still wasn’t clean. Few things about the room - it is Mexico and most hotels on the beach are eco-friendly so the AC wouldn’t go on until 9-10pm at night and shut off by 7am. There was a ton of rain and thunder while we were there last week and so it “broke” the AC for one night. They did bring us three fans so it worked out. Replaced the AC the next day. The service was good. Toilet wasn’t flushing for the first four days we were there - had to wait about one hour before you could flush again and I’m not sure why we waited so long to tell them. They do have a lady go by and clean the next day. Free breakfast every morning. They do have yoga and massages available. We loved it other than the few things I mentioned above. Can’t beat the view and breeze of the water. Oh, tons of seaweed!!

The location is the best part of this place. Customer service is very poor. No one says good morning, no one acknowledges you. It’s sad. No one even smiles. You almost have a feeling that you are intruding. I hope the owner sees this post. That it is not just another complainer, but seriously considers training her staff to be friendly. It also sucked to see staff shoveling endless mounds of seaweed!!! Leave it the hell alone...if people really want to get in, the will get past it. Amansala can do better. Even for a non pre madonna like myself.

Too noisy to sleep - room 18

I used to stay at Amansala regularly years ago ... but decided to try other properties in the last few years even though I loved it there! Well, this time was much different. While still a beautiful setting, the garden room I used to pay $90 for is now $200. The hardest part was the traffic and noise on the beach road in front of the hotel is so intense (most of the night) now that the area is growing. And heavy construction started every day of my stay at 6 am or so. I got no rest. I literally couldn't wait to get home so I could get full nights sleep. Very disappointed, as I know that's not what the owner of this hotel intended and it's certainly no ones fault but I will stay at a different hotel next time that is not so central to all the traffic. Also, I remembered the waitstaff being great in the past but this time I had to get up and go find someone when I wanted to order, each and every time. I would have spent much more on F&B had someone checked on me once in a while. It's too bad, I fell in love with Tulum at this hotel when I visited years ago.

TERRIBLE HOTEL...BEWARE...NOT WORTH IT

Where do I begin...first Hotels.com is advertising this hotel that they will not charge your credit card until your arrival/departure. That was FALSE...I had to call Hotels.com and complain about them charging me the ENTIRE STAY (3DAYS $600+). When we arrived, we were then told that we can't use the AC as it's on a timer and only from 10:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. We died in our room...so hot and humid (September's weather). Then they charge for bikes and WIFI, not free like other hotels. The kicker is that every day they were pounding breaking the cement rock flooring of most of their rooms so that's what we heard, and blasting music along with that. Never did we get a break only late at nite. The last straw was as we ALWAYS left the hotel to enjoy other hotels along the beach and their tranquility and to get a nice breeze, we returned to only find our room had fallen rock/plaster/cement from the above unit being worked on. GREAT...no one informed the worker there were GUEST staying BELOW??? Nope, fat chance...I had to march into the office in the front and complain, that all our clothing, bath stuff and laptop had rock debris all over the place. Couldn't even walk in there. They immediately apologized, apparently under new mgmt, and the Gen Mgr offered up an upgrade with 2 free Coronas...ok, at least he tried. But since day one, it's been horrible. Why pay up front all this money for NOISE, POUNDING, HOT, UNPLEASANT CONDITIONS??? You're insane to, when they are much

Weekend Tulum

Everything was great, with one exception. We were staying in Amansala Chico , we went to have lunch at the Grande. There we experienced the absolute worst service ever. Very rude, very ignorant servers.
On the other hand, Emanuelle our host was exceptional.

We absolutely loved our stay here. Staff are helpful, the rooms are lovely and it's right on a beautiful beach.
The rooms get really hot but staff were very accommodating and got an extra fan for us.
I would recommend staying in a room with a beach view as the rooms up the back can get a little noisy as they are right on the road

Great beach, but more rustic than imagined

Service was prompt. Beach was incredible. But keep in mind this is sort of a rustic resort area, the air conditioning is only on from 10PM to 6AM, there are bugs and other wildlife all around, and there isn't a ton of activity in the immediate area - other bars and restaurants are a 10-15 minute walk or you can rent a bike. But the beach and the on-site restaurant are quite pleasant so you may not want to leave.

Last minute trip....

Stayed at same hotel in Feb of this year...Our room this time had a great view of the ocean and perfectly situated on the beach for easy access. Perfect Location.

Feel like food and service has gone down. The maintenance/housekeeping crew are great but the hotel front desk and waitstaff need to step it up when compared to hotels nearby. Much better options down the beach for food and drinks.

Feels like it is being run by the instructor of the retreat for that particular week...not sure who is in charge.

Pool is great and views are very nice. Hot tub doesn't work. The dogs are awesome and very friendly....

Not sure we will stay here again...

If you aren't taking part in either bikini boot camp or yoga consider somewhere else otherwise you seem to be considered second class guests. The garden/jungle rooms have no private outdoor space and are under the aerobics/yoga space so are noisy throughout periods of the day. The service was fine and food ok, generally, the place was ok.

We loved it

Great place with the best beach in Tulum - the beach lounges are so comfy! Simple clean room with good bed, mosquito netting and safe. We had room m3 under the yoga sala (the cheapest room) and thought it was fantastic value for money. Good restaurants nearby. Yoga classses offered each evening. A very hippy chic place to stay. Would deinitely return.

A disappointing getaway.

Hotel caters to bikini boot camp clientele. It was frequently mentioned that I was an Expedia guest. I requested a two bed room and that was honored originally, until they over booked. Two days into stay they came and took away one of our beds leaving me and my female friend one bed to share. Staff expressed this happened frequently.
There seem to be overall disorganization with room charges and placement of guests.
