Overall, our stay at **Herion Hotel** was okay. The room and location were good, and the hotel worked well for our trip.

One thing to know is that the hotel uses **WhatsApp for the check-in instructions**. We didn’t have WhatsApp downloaded, so the check-in process took a little longer than expected. The weather was quite chilly when we arrived, and without the instructions it meant waiting outside for a bit while we sorted everything out.

Once everything was resolved, the stay was fine, but I would recommend **downloading WhatsApp before arrival** to make the check-in process easier and faster.

Convenient location for sightseeing in Venice.
The hotel is also close to Santa Lucia train station.
One good thing is that I can store my luggage in the locked luggage room after checked out while continue to sightseeing around.
I get back my luggage in the late afternoon to catch the train to Trieste.
There is no receptionist onsite , so you have to communicate with the staff in advance for the code to enter the building and your room.

Great communication from the hotel sending links to log my personal information and the codes for the main building, luggage room and my room. The room was clean and spacious, the air con was great and the bed comfortable. I struggled to find the luggage room but the staff member who was doing breakfast helped me to find it, she was very polite and helpful. I would definitely recommend Locanda Herion. It’s in a good location with lots of bars and restaurants near by. It’s also in walking distance from all the main attractions.

The Expedia listing mentions on-site parking, which is not true and, in fact, impossible due to Venice's parking regulations. It is a 20-40 minute walk to parking.

Otherwise, it's a great location. Our room was nice and clean. Hot water and water pressure was iffy. The housekeeping manager was helpful and friendly. Like some other reviewers, our room access code was not sent, but they responded quickly to WhatsApp messages. They do not respond to emails.

The hotel was located perfectly, it was just behind the main street so it was not loud outside, however it was in a great spot with loads of shops and restaurants surrounding it. everywhere was in a walkable distance including the train station, the rialto bridge, St marks etc.
The only issue we faced was the air conditioning was very bad so the room was still boiling

Facility is ok, but service not so much.

There is no reception, and if you need any assistance at all, good luck! It took us over 90 minutes to get our code to enter the room. There was no elevator. The shower had no hot water for 3 of our 7 attempts at showers. The room was decent and clean. It was tricky to find, but in a good location, relatively close to the train station. The shower was tiny, with no shelves for soap or shampoo. Nothing fancy, but clean.

Great location not so great property to stay

The property is nice and clean. However no service in the room like kettle or cofee cups etc. Everything in common area. No ceramic bowls or anything to warm food etc. Warm water finishes around 9.30to 10am hence have a bath early or get used to having luke warm or cold shower. Also ensure if you are booking share your phone no / whats app to connect or you will not get the room code and may get stranded outside. No clear communication was sent on email.

Good Location and clean room. Air conditioning was great as it had a quiet mode.
Room itself very basic and no space to put anything anywhere in the bathroom. Room was directly next to the cleaning cupboard so that we got regularly woken up between 6 and 7 in the morning.

Location of the hotel was good, but very hard to find: most local people coud not give you correct direction. The hotel doez not have any dissant furniture in you room- no table or any chair. There is no kleanex in the butroom.
Also, day before of our departure hotel desided to start providing breakfast. Our check out was at 10 am. At 8 am, my husband brought some of our bags down stair and knoticed a coffee maker.
The moment he tryed to have just a cope of coffee, the manager immediately stop him. Stating that the coffee will be served only for new guest. That was plane rude.

When I booked this stay I didn't realize there would be no one at the location. However, I have stayed at many Airbnbs and thought it would be no big deal. I was wrong. There was poor communication. I was sent a code to enter the guesthouse but no code for the room. The code didn't work, so my son and I were left standing outside with all our luggage. We had no ability to make phone calls, but after some scrambling figured how to contact them through Whatsapp. The women was incredibly rude and blamed me for why she didn't send me the code. I had filled out all the necessary information in advance as directed in the emails. Further she demanded 24 euros more for the tourist tax, in additional to all taxes I had already paid and which was not mentioned I would have to pay in the booking. The tax is supposed to be paid prior to arriving in Venice and she was supposed to send me a QR code to enter the island. This did not happen either which led to a long conversation and some grace on the part of the tourist tax offical when I got off the train. As you can imagine this was an awful experience and afterwards my son Googled them and it appears to be a common experience. Further the room was filled with flies and mosquitoes, there was no safe as indicated, and the refrigerator didn't work.

We were very disappointed with this hotel. The room we were given looked nothing like the photos online. It was dark and quite dirty. The shower head had black mould all over it. The bathroom was down 4 sets of stairs which was dangerous when we needed to use to toilet at night. There was also no light in the shower. The WiFi didn’t work and I had no response from the hotel when I complained on the first night. For the price of the hotel, I wouldn’t recommend it.

The location is perfect. There’s cafe’s nearby, restaurants, shops and it’s so close to the train station. The stairs you have to take from the train station have a ramp so it’s perfect if you have luggage. Our room/bathroom was a bit on the small size but we didn’t spend too much time in the room since Venice was so amazing 😊 our room also had access to the terrace with the view of the courtyard.

Nao recomendo o hotel, chemos em Veneza as 23h e nao tinha ninguem para nos receber, pedimos ajuda do garcom de 1 estabelecimento local, para que ele nos ajudasse a falar com alguem da propriedade e so atraves dessa ajuda conseguimos entrar no hotel.
O horario de saida do hotel era as 10:00h da manhã, nunca tinha visto isso antes.
Ao entrarmos no hotel nos deparamos com 1 escama enorme e estreita, escada de 2 lances.
Muito complicado e cansativo subir essas escadas com nossas malas.
Nao existe ajuda humana para carregar as malas.
Nao gostei do atendimento.

During our stay there was a power outage, and there was nobody available to help enter the room or provide any transportation or other services. I repeatedly tried to contact staff but there was no response. We had to rely on our guests to help get into the main entrance or else we would have been locked out in the bad weather. All other guests also mentioned they had no luck in reaching any staff for assistance. This is unacceptable to have no assistance, especially during a blackout or potential any type of natural or other disaster. Guests should be accommodated for the stressful conditions and the hotel should takes steps to ensure this cannot happen in the future.

Close to the train station which means less dragging bags over bridges, but a longer walk to San Marco. Decent food in the area and easy access to the water bus. They were super helpful when we had to stay for two extra night. Room was cold so do bring layers.

The checking in process was a bit cumbersome. There was a portal we needed to use, but never got the right link. I believe it's because the number in their system didn't match ours specifically the +1 for usa. So needed to reach out to do hotel by WhatsApp, luckily we did that on the train to Venice. The room wasn’t big enough to be considered a family room that can fit 4 people. The ac had a strong mold smell and it stops working suddenly which is really annoying when it happens in the middle of the night.
The little fridge in the closet had a loud noise and you cannot pull the electric cord out of the socket. And it makes the closet very hot.
The bathroom had one hook for one body towel and no rail for the hand towel which made it hard for the four of us to hang our towels ( was very inconvenient).
Nadia from the housekeeping was very nice and friendly.
But the housekeeping manager who i didn’t happen to meet but we just talked over the phone before checking in wasn’t nice at all. She was yelling at me over the phone when i tried to understand the difference in fees she was asking me to pay compared to the fees that were on my invoice from expedia.
The breakfast was good. Basic but for us more than enough.
The area is nice. 25 minutes walk to san marco. And 10 minutes walk from the train station.

This hotel never responded to my emails and never read and reply the chat on the booking site. Not just on the day of our stay. For several days I had been sending several times.

Expedia tried hard to contact this hotel to resolve the issue but ultimately the hotel never sent me an entry code.(With the help of Expedia they finally sent me the web check-in URL the same night. I entered it, but this hotel did not send me an entry code.)
So I rushed to find another hotel.

The hotel doesn't contact me, but treats it as a no-show cancellation. They are only checking that kind of information, but they didn’t send me the code at all.

Cons: walking to/from bus station parking with each a large luggage took about 20 mins, walking up stairs. Very unpleasant. Communication with property was not easy. We booked with Expedia but they wouldn’t communicate with us thru them. We had to call a few numbers to get access code for room. They contacted on my mobile but like many I got a SIM card with a different number. Shower was extremely small. We weren’t aware of charge for breakfast and sternly advise that it was 10 Euros each. No thanks. We opted to go elsewhere. Small fridge was very noisy.

Pros. Close to many dining options and activities like gondola ride. Beds were very comfortable. Property was very clean. Room was quiet.

Pros- great location in a fab neighbourhood - lots of shops and restaurants in walking distance that were much nicer than the main tourist areas.
Cons- as others have said, the check-in process is stressful. The rooms aren't really sound proof either - our room was right by the cleaners cupboards and every morning we were woken up early but workers talking loudly. This was annoying.
It was expensive for what it was too - modern room but basic. Basic breakfast too.
All in all the location made it worth it but just wouldn't go expecting any frills.

Never received any check in communication, prior to arrival I called number listed on Hotels.com that had a recorded message and despite me leaving a message no one called. I reached out by e-mail too, after no timely reply spent 40 euros to store luggage. Within 30 minutes of that revived a message finally but no on way to do something else. The e-mail contained an incorrect door code to building, by trial and error we got in. The e-mail never named the wifi but gave a password that didn’t work for the only wifi that showed up. Again called and sent messages that were never answered. Next morning spoke to a man in lobby who appeared to work there and he told me to call the 2 numbers listed on sign, I’d already done so. I did finally receive a call back from cleaning lady who said she was coming up. She then proceeded to yell at us about the wifi and why we hadn’t chosen the correct wifi or called. I showed her my call log and she still claimed she hadn’t been called. Eventually the first man I met I believe reset the wifi. The property itself was nice enough but not worth the hassle. Also, signage said breakfast 8-10, when I enquired I was asked if my reservation included breakfast, I replied I can’t check as I have no WiFi, no one ever apologized

Not a lot of storage or hanging space. It could do with some hooks on the wall and a shelf or two.
Location was good. 10 mins to train station.

Nice property, but no one home to open the door.

This is a nice property with a good location, but their remote check-in approach failed. They did not reply to emails for help. Repeated phone calls went into voice mail for three hours. They finally called and gave me an access code to get into my room. I was about to fall asleep, at 10 pm, when there was a knock on the door. Another guest was there to retrieve a suitcase and explain that he had been told to go to a different room.

Convenient Spot to Stay in Venice

We stayed with Locanda Herion mid October and found the location convenient and the accommodations comfortable. It was strange to never have seen a hotel employee at all during our stay but I understand this is the way some properties are going. It didn't cause us too much trouble.
The only problem was some confusion with the checkin instructions. The instructions I was originally sent referred to a door that is not used in the \"winter\" (I didn't realize it was winter), The codes for the door in use and for our suite I had to manually request on the day of arrival.
Other than that the directions to find the property from the train station were perfect.
We would stay here again if we returned.

Booked as a guest so hotels.com couldn't help with problems. Best way is by water taxi from airport. Appartement didnt send key code entries until the day which i found a nightmare. This was via whats app due to no reception desk. Room was lovely comfortable beds small bathroom. Shame no tea coffee in the room . This was downstairs with disposable cups and no milk. Beware to work your tourist tax out on the main web page as they tried to charge me more. Over all i would stay here again even tho it is a fare walk to other areas of interests

FIRST AND FOREMOST: download whatsapp before you stay here. We waited an hour in the rain for information to access the building but could not get a hold of anyone because of our US phone service until another guest helped us out and god bless her for doing so. She showed us to contact the peraon through whatsapp and aa soon as I got a hold of someone we were immediately in. The room was wonderful, the location was great, it was a perfect stay after the initial hiccup which may have been a random hiccup. So I repeat: download whatsapp because that's how we got a hold of someone quickly.

The location is nice. Very close to a main street and 2 minute walk to water transportation. There are two mobile cell phone shops very close. Two cafes and pizzerias. Backyard terrace is nice but they need to fix the lighting as it was flashing uncomfortably so I would recommend eating breakfast in the terrace in the day time until they fix it. They have luggage storage which was very useful on our last day so we can do activities after checkout. Overall a pleasant experience experience.

Great stay right in the heart of Venice. As others have stated, the check in process can be a bit cumbersome, but just make sure you fill out all of information that they request before you get there. And also whatsapp is the best way to communicate with them. The room was comfy, very clean, and had everything we needed. The housekeepers that we met were very friendly, helpful, and eager to answer any questions that we had. Do yourself a favor to get away from the big crowds and spend some time in Cannareggio. Great food choices and more locals than tourists. Locanda Herion was a great stay!

Pleasant hotel, great location.

Great location as it’s only a 15 minute walk to the main tourist attractions i.e. Rialto Bridge, St Marc’s Square etc… It is only 10 minutes walk from the bus station so no need for water taxi’s when arriving from the airport. Our room (2B) was in good condition with a comfortable bed. Good air con and good wifi. We definitely recommend this hotel, would stay there again.

Right near the Train station. Walkable distance to many spot through Venice. The check in was to be done by yourself as the staff sends the codes to enter the building and the room by yourself. The staff was very helpful during check in as I didn’t get the code from the Hotel app itself. Nevertheless, amazing room. Very comfortable as there was AC as it was extremely hot outside. Hotel was fantastic with a bigger room than expected. The airon was great. Its the first hotel in europe we have stayed in without a winter dovet on tgebed. However, the shower was tiny.

The overall experience at this property was okay, cleanliness and comfort were not an issue. Communication with the property and gaining access information to get into the property was an issue. Through luck and guesswork I contacted the property via WhatsApp to gain access codes (FUTURE GUESTS TAKE NOTE), the property doesn’t reply to emails in a timely fashion and calling the property leads to an Italian voicemail/ answer machine:

The self check-in system on this hotel is so inconvenient. I did not receive an email about the building/room code until I had ask a cleaning lady after 2 hours of waiting. I emailed the hotel and received a follow up after 3 hours and was told the email was sent, I just didn’t receive it. They never apologized, and they obviously lack a simple communication skill by making me sound like I am the dumb one here for not checking the email. I checked at least 6 times before I emailed them.
The cleaning lady was really nice and helpful and the room AC was satisfying.

A lovely apartment style setting with the stylish bathroom being downstairs and a very boutique style property. Very clean and bottled water provided. Wi-Fi was good.
Have to park car over the river and got the water taxi and a short walk to get to property.

Charming Stay in Venice

We had a lovely experience. We bumped into a staff member when we arrived, and they were very welcoming and helpful. We got there early so we were just going to store our luggage, but the room was ready so they went ahead and gave us the code to get in.
The room was clean and modern. Nothing luxurious but adequately furnished. The hotel area in general was quite charming.
When we booked the room (through hotels.com) we got two somewhat confusing emails about contacting the hotel later to confirm our stay, and needing to fill out a form that would be sent. We didn’t get a form, and we were without internet a couple days prior to arriving. But I emailed the hotel the day before our stay and thankfully they responded pretty quickly, sent me the info, and everything was fine.

Perfect spot for a few nights!

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our ‘touring around Italy’ trip and had a very pleasant stay. The staff were very attentive before we arrived on WhatsApp keeping us up to date and providing helpful check in information. Upon arrival we found an easy to find location with plenty to do around, also it’s less than a 5 min walk from the water bus station!

The room itself had everything we could possibly need with a relatively comfy fold out bed, fully stocked bathroom with a wet room shower and a safe to store valuables.

The few interactions we had with staff at the location were excellent and the cleaning staff were super helpful and so nice!

Next time we’re in Venice we will definitely be back!

It worked for us because is a 10’ walk to the train station. We only stayed for 1 night and were able to store our luggage while visiting the city and them pick it up on our way to the station, so super convenient. Just know that there’s steep stairs to get to the room and you need to carry your luggage

This hotel is great and quite well hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Venice. A lot of people in reviews conplained about checkin however - if you follow the instructions emailed by the hotel you will do just fine. While they do not have a reception desk, they do answer their WhatsApp messages and their communication is great. Make sure to do the pre check-in!
