It was a very easy walk from the train station. (Don’t cross the first bridge, it is the second one from the train station). It is easy to get lost in Venice. We found exploring Venice was challenging in a good way. Nicola( our host) was encouraging when he said to explore and get lost.

It was the most beautiful hotel in Italy, my host was Nicola 😊🇮🇹 who took the timecto explain everything and gave a warm welcoming, made me feel safe and like home. The room was gorgeous, even more beutiful than the pictures onvthe Website. The olny thing i didn’t like was my next door neighbor at the hotel, i was sick and she was ver rude to me because I was coughing.

Booked this place was given another apartment, no warning never even acknowledged, up all night long travel from asia arriving late afternoon brain was not engaged, the place provided did not look as good as the booked one, 2 very small bottles of liquid soap provided, seriously, lucky I carry soap for times like that, that was Venice, pricy and very old, but that apartment last seen any type of renovation in the 1970s, didn’t make a fuss as we had 3 nights and 2 full days there they where unlikely to do anything apart from apologise if I spoke up, oh you think I may have been entitled to a small refund? Fat chance, Venice is over priced, now in Naples I can tell you the mafia isn’t just here, hope they don’t block or alter my review, anyway can’t review what I never got so take it from me better to avoid this group if you a fussy fella….

Nicolas (not sure of spelling!) Was an excellent host. He gave us some really useful tips on where to go to get the most out of our stay. The air con was brilliant and the room was a good size (especially for Venice) with a comfy bed. The in room breakfast really set us up well for the day. Having a fridge in the room and being located near a supermarket (despair) was also really helpful.

I stayed here for four nights in the beginning of April and loved it! At first it was a bit confusing as I made my way to the main office to be told that the apartment was still a few blocks away, but the man at the front desk was very helpful and even walked me to the apartment and carried my very heavy bag over the little bridges haha. The apartment itself was amazing, on a quiet street with a kitchen where I could store my daily findings at the market and any other goodies I could find. The bedroom overlooked the canal through little shuttered windows and the bed was comfortable. Wifi was good and the washing machine was a game changer for someone who was on a three week trip! As a solo female traveller I felt safe and had no worries exploring the city. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend!

While there were better options in Venice, we booked quite late and had limited options. This accommodation is good for to stay for one night. The good: The staffs are very friendly and the lady who checked us in gave really good suggestions on what to see and how to use waterbus. The no so good: It was a bit confusing how how to access the hotel - instruction in the booking is not clear and we ended up buzzing the wrong floor to get into the door. Check out time is WAY to late. We wanted to check out before 8am but staff are not around until 9am (we should have double checked this!). We booked with breakfast and it was disappointing. For the same price we can definitely eat better elsewhere.

This is a hidden gem. I stayed in the apartment in Canaregio. It was quiet yet close enough to the main street to be out and into the atmosphere of Venice within a few minutes. I would definitely stay there again.

This is truly a 2-star accommodation. It was not easy finding the place even with directions from the hotel. The basic necessities are available but not in good condition: (1) unable to connect to wifi; (2) bed was shaky and one could feel the springs underneath; and (3) the TV could be powered on but there's no TV programmes. Given the price, I would have expected a bit more.

The Al Portico is a no frills kind of guest house located in a side alley of away from the noisy main tourist streets in Venice. The management folks did reach out and provided us very detailed instructions on how to get to the place and we had no trouble finding it despite what others had mentioned in the past. They were also available at the front desk and provided us a map and tips on how to navigate the city.
Our bed was comfortable and the room was overall clean and it looked like they had done some renovations recently. This is not a 4-star hotel so do not go in expecting that. They provide you the simple necessities like a fridge, coffee machine and hot water kettle. Our only grumble was the old and very cramped bathroom with a sink so small that it could barely fit a water glass and the shower was also very tiny with a slightly smelly shower curtain.
We did enjoy the daily rooftop or \"room service\" breakfast with fresh toast, croissants, coffee, hot chocolate and tea which was lovely and the hosts were quite friendly. Overall, it was a pleasing experience with a reasonable price point.

This is a lovely hotel but a little difficult to find if you are new to the city. We thought Venice was absolutely amazing and the location of this hotel is great. We were able to get in a little early which was wonderful but they also make accommodations to secure your luggage. The room was clean and lovely complete with air conditioning. Everything is updated and very modern which is such a great contrast in such an old city. We were met with a warm greeting, a city map and helpful directions of things to see in the city complete with the best viewing of Venice sunsets! Make sure to add breakfast to your stay on the third floor veranda, it is wonderful!!

This hotel is iso difficult to find. Room was tiny with a bathroom smaller than a cruise ship cabin. There is no elevator so had to heave our bags up 3 flights of steep stairs. Mosquitos everywhere and bed so uncomfortable. All in all this is not 4.5 out 5 stars and is expensive for what it is. Super disappointed.

This hotel is wonderfully located on a quiet back street in Canareggio, near many good restaurants recommended by a helpful staff. The room was basic but comfortable and clean. BUT, and this is a big but, there is NO STAFF on site after 1:30 PM; in fact they are there only from 9 AM to 1:30. The phone number they provide was not answered any of the multiple times I tried it, which was a big problem when the building’s owner went out at 11 PM. If it hadn’t Ben for a resource guest finding the breaker box and flipping switches until he lights came on, we would have been without air conditioning and lights for 10 hours on the hottest night of the summer so far.

The location of the apartment was great. It was on the canal and close to restaurants and shops. However, we did not realize that we would be checking in at a location different from the apartment and that we would have to cross at least 4 more bridges, not an easy thing for us especially with luggage. The young lady let us in and then left without showing us anything. As soon as she left we noticed a big puddle of water in the kitchen caused by a problem with the dishwasher. It was too late to catch her. It took a while to get a response from her. They didn't even send someone to check on the problem. I had to clean it up myself. Other than this, our stay in Venice was very nice.

Nice hotel within 10min walk to train station. Check-in and out instructions was a breeze. No elevator but staffs were kind and helpful to assist our huge luggages up the stairs. Rooms were comfortable and huge with all the necessities provided. Only problem we had initially was the heating system that went off in the middle of the night so it was freezing as it was winter time but this was solved by the owners and staff thereafter. Overall .. love the place and would stay here again if we were to visit Venice again !

We had an AMA zing stay at al portico guest house. Finding the guest house was made simple due to the information provided on the website and emailed to me from the guest house.
The location is located set back from a main road of shops and restaurants and is within easy walking distance from the bus and train stations.
The staff were delightful. Everyone was very helpful and when checking in we were given a map and recommend local places to eat, the main sights and was also told about a local holiday celebration which was happening during our stay.
The rooms were spotlessly clean and very well equipped with all the essentials. They were large, bright and spacious which is often hard to find when looking for a room for 3 people.
Overall we loved our stay at the al portico guest house and would not hesitate to rebook or recommend to friends and family.

Quiet location for a great stay
Al Portico was a great place to stay in Venice, not too far to walk from the train station.....only had to cross one bridge. It was down a small lane off the main thoroughfare. It was in a very quiet area. Our host was very welcoming and gave us some great tips on what to see. We were given a clean and spacious room. We recommend Al Portico.

Lovely quaint little hote, very typical Italian located in the charming backstreets. Close to train station and perfectly located with the canal, shops and restaurants on the door step. The staff were extremely pleasant and couldn’t have helped any more. Extremely happy with the clean and tastefully done up room. Quiet location but half a minutes walk to the hustle and bustle. We checked in very late and received a door entry code via email and keys were waiting for us when we got there. This hotel was what it said on the tin - one step up from basic, the rooms were furnished nicely however the bathroom was a let down - very small with a compostable toilet that made loud noises and smelt unpleasant. There was hot water, towels etc. There was also a mini fridge which was useful for water and air con although this was positioned so the cool air blew onto the wrong side of the room and it was hot to sleep in. There were a few mozzies in the room when we arrived and we struggled to catch them so just had to take it as it came! The man who checked us in was very friendly, gave us a map and suggested a personal itinerary for our timescale, including things we would usually have walked right past but then enjoyed. We were also allowed to leave our luggage outside our room at 11am which was useful but couldn’t get in our room until 12.

The hjotel needs to have a way to show the guest how to arrive at the hotel since there no taxis or cars to drive you. Hotel was clean and comfortable for sleeping, but in reality it does not offer breakfast, has limited availability for storage more than 2 bags, there is no safe and the bathtub is super tiny and dangerous. The hotel does not have elevator so you migh have to carry your own luggage 4 stories high

Upon arrival, we were welcomed by an extremely helpful woman. She informed us about not only the main attractions of Venice, but also on how and the best ways to reach them. The hotel is in a very convenient location. Fifteen minute walk to Rialto Bridge; fifteen minute walk from the train station. The area is full of restaurants and bars, so you don't have to venture far in the evening for something to do. Our room was spacious, furnishing was modern, and we also had a fridge provided. Would highly recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to stay in Venice.

Really great stay at Al Portico Guest House. We were able to check in earlier than intended, and the rooms were bright, clean and comfortable. The staff were polite and helpful when it came to recommending restaurants and the best ways to explore Venice. Air conditioning was essential and excellent in the room. The location was fantastic, easily within 15-20 minutes walking distance of all major sites in Venice. It was lovely to explore the alleyways and canals within Cannaregio, and there were a wide range of restaurants close by. We enjoyed having breakfast on the terrace every morning. Our stay was quiet and the guest house had a friendly and warm atmosphere to it.

The room was very clean and modern, great storage space. The staff were very helpful providing us with a map and highlight all of the key sights as it was our first time in Venice. Short Carnival Break
Friend and myself had a three day break during carnival time. Good location for hotel, not far to nearest water bus, almost opposite a Spar! I'm glad we were on first floor as those narrow steps were a bit lethal but overall you couldn't fault it for a short stay. Free Wifi was a nice bonus. We would stay there again. And they were very understanding when my friend pulled the curtains down!!

I really, truly do not understand the rave reviews of this place. Let’s start with the check in process where you have to continuously ring an intercom until someone decides to come down to get you. Then you’re finally checked in, showed the keys and the placement of the coffee machine and then left to basically figure things out on your own. The sofa bed is atrocious! The shower head has built up lime scale so there is no shower pressure and no place to put the soap as you shower and no grips in the shower so it’s slippery and since there’s no place to put your bathing soap it’s continuously slippery because you have no choice but to hold it or place it on the floor. Add the slow drain to this equation and it’s just a disgusting experience all around. The room where the sofa beds are is cold and noisy and I only received a thin blanket for the bed I had to make myself after going back to the office in another building to ask for sheets as this is a special request that I should have mentioned in advance. The fact that they have the audacity to charge close to $160 a night for this is depressing and disgusting. I’ve stayed in better places in third world countries that charge $20 a night and had better experiences. This place just makes me want to cry.

The two gentleman that take care of the rentals were pleasant and very helpful. This is a good choice for accommodation.

We arrived in Venice by train and walked from the station to the guest house. It took 10-15 minutes to get there and then another 5 minutes to find the actual door of it, as it is down a little alleyway with no signage.
Our rooms were ready on arrival and the guy on reception gave us a map and loads of useful information, so armed with all of that we headed off and walked towards the Rialto Bridge and St Mark's Square. We used Google maps mostly but there are signs everywhere pointing you towards to main sites.
Once we had our bearings and had seen the main sites, we headed back and once we'd showered and changed, we had dinner in the vicinity of the guest house, which is a quieter, pretty area and we found it much more relaxing. I assume maybe cheaper as well, as it is away from the busier tourist areas.
The following day, we headed back towards the station and over the Scalzi Bridge towards Basilica di Santa Maria, which was an amazing walk through the quieter and what seemed more authentic, part of Venice.
We only really had a day and a half in Venice, but managed to see everything we wanted. We did it all on foot, which I think is the best way to see any city and I would have liked to go on a vaporetto, but found the costs were extortionate and having 4 to pay for, decided against it.
I adored Venice, it is the most beautiful city and the Al Portico guest house is a little gem in the midst of all the madness.
I would 100% stay there again.

I enjoyed the location of this hotel. It was walking distance to attractions and had many eating options steps away, as well as two supermarkets. The staff was friendly and gave tips on a walking tour of Venice as well as providing a map. I had a difficult time finding the office and reaching the staff upon arrival as it was in an unlikely location. The internet was very slow and not up to modern standards. Having said that, I would stay again.

The apartment was not as advertised nor did it match the reviews. The pictures advertised on the website were completely different from the apartment we were given. It was dingy, the furniture was old and uncomfortable and the bathroom smelled of sewage. The location was good but this place is not recommended. The reception worker was helpful with tips for navigating and touring Venice.

This is a perfect quiet location off the main tourist strip that's close to Saint Lucia's station as well as the bus station to the airport. It's also close to one of the main water bus stations should you want to travel by boat instead of walking! Very clean and the host is very sweet and accommodating. I recommend this place and would be happy to stay there when I visit again!

The guys at Al Portico Guest house went over and above what they had to do to help us out. Our flights in were delayed so we got there much later than expected and they left us everything we needed to get settled. With our flights being delayed our luggage was lost in the process and they both are the only reason we got our bags when we did. I did not speak Italian so they helped me get ahold of the delivery service and arranged a meeting for us at the train station literally 5 minutes before our train was scheduled to depart. Had they not helped us we would have either missed our train or had to have our luggage delivered to us in another city. I cannot thank them enough for their tremendous service. I would absolutely stay here again.
