The Hotel Niu is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. After a horrific commute into the country, the welcome to the hotel was second to none. Daniel was an absolutely fantastic host on the reception, he asked if I wanted a queen bed, as floors below the 4th floor were 2 single beds pushed together. I asked to have the queen and that was the room we were given. We got breakfast included with our stay and also signed up for the IHG Rewards. Daniel was an incredible host, he made us feel so welcome and he went above and beyond for us. He gave us brilliant recommendations for places to see, eat and drink across Cologne like a local! Sebastian was an equally wonderful staff member who kept us entertained behind the bar every night! He was such a joy to be around and he was so friendly and attentive. The cocktails were also fantastic! I would come back to the Niu simply for these staff members! I also loved the breakfast, it was replenished very regularly, offering a huge variety of options for every taste. The room was a lovely size, enough room for all of our things and the bed was so comfy! I adored everything about this hotel and I would highly highly recommend it!

This was a bad experience. The hotel does not represent Holiday Inn experience. There is no sign of Holiday Inn from outside, only The-niu which was confusing to us and our taxi driver which we ended up in Holiday Inn Express, then returning to this hotel only to find the IHG signs inside by the check in desk. Complaining to the clerk ended up with nowhere other than apology, they are aware of the confusion that’s been creating with other guests as well. We saw other guests arrive with same problem. The room was very small, no closet, just a small rack to hang only two hangers. The staff was very nice. Bottom line, this is not the reputation of Holiday Inn definitely will not return.

Close to our music venue
We just stayed at the Niu Hotel to walk to a music venue at the E-werke in 10-15 minutes, which was perfect. The hotel is spotless and compact, plus the personnel was friendly. The breakfast they offer is good, and I will book my next stay when I am in the Köln area.

On the first night at midnight planes were flying overhead every five mutes (on the hour & half an hour) and this went on for hours. I got no sleep until 5:00am.
The manager was not too concerned about it and offered no apology.
I was less than impressed with no where to put our luggage on, no Kleenex, no shampoo/conditioner, no slippers. Breakfast was okay, nothing great.
We will not be coming back there.

The electrical system is tried to the card. I suppose that may be a new law in Germany as they are very conservative in saving resources but to the unsuspecting traveler who is tried and hungry its a royal pa I n. The staff made no effort to inform or educate us on how it worked.

It was a tiny room for 3 people, but okay for one night. Parking was on the premises and they had a good breakfast buffet. Easy to get to from the Autobahn and easy to leave again. There is an U-Bahn station right at the corner, making it easy to get to the cathedral and center of Köln.

Great location to Weiner Platz, kiosk opposite open until the early hours. Staff helpful and friendly, service at hotel bar was a bit slow due to them manning both stations but selection was good. Wir sind aus Entspannungs- und touristischen Gründen nach Köln gereist, um abzuschalten und uns die Stadt in Ruhe anzuschauen. Entsprechend hatten wir an unseren Aufenthalt im Holiday Inn- the niu in Köln-Mülheim gewisse Erwartungen. Insgesamt war der Aufenthalt für uns eher im unteren Durchschnitt.
Besonders unangenehm war ein Vorfall in der ersten Nacht. Gegen 6 Uhr morgens wurde mehrfach sehr laut an unsere Zimmertür geklopft. Es handelte sich um eine fremde Person, die dabei am Telefonieren war. Nachdem wir die Tür geöffnet und nachgefragt haben, was los sei, ist die Person einfach im Laufschritt davongegangen. Dabei handelte es sich um eine erwachsene Person mittleren Alters (geschätzt etwa 40–50 Jahre). Wir können ehrlich gesagt überhaupt nicht nachvollziehen, wie so etwas in einem Hotel passieren kann, vor allem zu dieser Uhrzeit. Dadurch war an Entspannung leider nicht mehr zu denken.
Zusätzlich waren wir enttäuscht, dass es keine Hausschuhe bzw. Einweg-Badeschuhe im Zimmer gab. Aus früheren Aufenthalten in vergleichbaren Hotels kennen wir das eigentlich als kleinen, aber selbstverständlichen Standard.
Insgesamt war die erhoffte Erholung während unseres Aufenthalts leider nicht so gegeben, wie wir es uns vorgestellt hatten. Positiv erwähnen möchten wir jedoch die Rezeption, die durchweg sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit war.
Besonders unangenehm war ein Vorfall in der ersten Nacht. Gegen 6 Uhr morgens wurde mehrfach sehr laut an unsere Zimmertür geklopft. Es handelte sich um eine fremde Person, die dabei am Telefonieren war. Nachdem wir die Tür geöffnet und nachgefragt haben, was los sei, ist die Person einfach im Laufschritt davongegangen. Dabei handelte es sich um eine erwachsene Person mittleren Alters (geschätzt etwa 40–50 Jahre). Wir können ehrlich gesagt überhaupt nicht nachvollziehen, wie so etwas in einem Hotel passieren kann, vor allem zu dieser Uhrzeit. Dadurch war an Entspannung leider nicht mehr zu denken.
Zusätzlich waren wir enttäuscht, dass es keine Hausschuhe bzw. Einweg-Badeschuhe im Zimmer gab. Aus früheren Aufenthalten in vergleichbaren Hotels kennen wir das eigentlich als kleinen, aber selbstverständlichen Standard.

Er hat uns direkt ausgefragt, auf welches Konzert wir gehen, und sich mit uns mit gefreut. :-) Das Zimmer war sauber und hübsch. Frühstück hatten wir nicht mit gebucht, daher kann ich dazu nichts sagen.

Es war für uns alles perfekt. Das Bett war super bequem, das Zimmer war riesig. Mit Klimaanlage, Soundsystem, was ich über Bluetooth steuern konnte. Sehr sauber, nettes Personal, sehr gutes Frühstück. Wir kommen definitv wieder.

Good standard hotel with all you need. Convenient with parking also. However, beware of inflexible booking policies! We had to reschedule a trip a little since we could not change the booking once it was made. A bit below standards of other similar hotels. Apart from that, not so much to complain about.

The hotel was very centrally located — just a few minutes’ walk to excellent train connections for both the trade fair and the main station. There were plenty of restaurants and markets within walking distance, which made exploring the area really convenient. Despite the vibrant neighborhood, the hotel was pleasantly quiet at night. Overall, a great place to stay for both business and leisure.
