We had a bit of a rough trip with the air Canada strike so we were unable to arrive on the first day. Impossible to get ahold of anyone by email or long distance. They might have long distance disabled. If they didn't have mobile check in, we would have lost it and have no where to go. I wish there was someone we could have talked to about our situation. Our room temperature was locked at 28.5°C and even with the instructions it never went lower. The fridge was connected to the cabinet door and there was a gap so the fridge never got cold and everything spoiled. We couldn't really complain as we lost most of our days to the strike so we only had 2 nights. Otherwise, amazing area, easy for transportation. There's a police station right next door so we felt safe. The room was clean as well. We paid for breakfast through Expedia but never had the chance to use it because of our plane situation.

This is a decent hotel if you can secure a good rate. My opinion is slightly impacted by the convention surge pricing, and at this rate this hotel is not a good value. The rooms are acceptable in size but lack some comforts that would add to the stay such as an actual place to eat food, microwave, freezer, multiple chairs, etc. The biggest issue is the bed situation. We stayed in a superior (?) double room, and instead of having 2 double beds pushed together with a layer on top to connect them, there were simply 2 beds pushed together with a gap which isn’t ideal for a couple that actually enjoys being a couple…this combined with the very hard mattress and limp pillows created a disastrous few nights of sleep. Not great if you’re going to be on your feet all day for multiple days at a convention. Checking into the room is a pain, they use a digital system with your phone that just didn’t work. It’s not all bad, it’s clean enough and it looks nice. It just feels like more effort is needed to make this feel like a great place to stay.

My sister and I attempted to stay in this hotel. I was very disappointed with the whole experience. The level of hygiene and cleanliness was far behind the acceptable standard. We’re shocked to find our room in a very poor condition. There were bunks of dust around the walls and under the bed and in every corner, around the lamps and desks. hair and dust on the beddings, the bathroom was very dirty the toilet seat dusty and had scaling. Dead insects and wasp on window seals. The air conditioning was not functioning. We reported the issue to the receptionist immediately and we asked the room to be cleaned they offered us a different room the alternative room was unfortunately in even worse condition. I refused to stay in this hotel because my sister has very sever allergy reaction to dust.

The receptionist acknowledged the situation and assured me that I would be eligible for a refund. However, since I had booked through a third-party platform, I was informed that I would need to contact the hotel management directly to process the refund, as the hotel could not cancel the booking from their side without managerial approval. I’ve been chasing them for two weeks and still no response.

This is the worst hotel Ive ever stayed at. Iur room had no phone to contact reception, windows that didnt fully close so the outside noise was constant and the bathroom had tiles falling off. We ran iut of toilet paper and reception was closed so we had none for the night. I wouldnt stay here again even if it was free. Its an old and run down hotel that doesnt even operate like a proper hotel.

The hotel has a nice veneer. On the surface, it appears well-apportioned with all the ysual amenities. However, just about everything is just a bit off. Parkibg (as mentioned by other reviews) is a mess. We got in but couldn't get into the hotel section of the underground lot. The check in girl had to come down to open the internal gates. Leaving was even worse. The hotel doesn't have a night staff and when we tried to leave at 6 am, the pay kiosks didn't work. We had to wait a half an hour for someone to show up. Fortunately, we had built in extra time to drive to the airport in Frankfurt.

The hotel is not in Köln proper. Expect to drive to the city, grab an Uber or figure out public

Thewas big and clean but furnishings were dated. The a/c was functional. The 3rd bed (cot) leg had a nasty habit of collapsing. The shower wand holder was broken and there was a leak under the tub.

The breakfast was good. Probably the best scrambled eggs I had in Europe. The restaurant attached (not part of the hotel) had excellent sauerbraten and dumplings.

The vending machine also didn't dipense product paid for. The desk clerk also couldn't get it to work.

The staff was attentive and did what they could but you coukd tell they've been dealing with these issues for a long time. There is a nice bar set up in the lobby but I never saw it staffed.

All in all, the hotel served it's purpose and none of the issues ruined the trip but with a few tweaks, the hotel could be very nice.

Dear Management, I am writing to officially lodge a complaint regarding my recent experience at your hotel. The events that unfolded on the night of Friday, April 12, 2024, were wholly unacceptable for an establishment in Germany. Upon returning to the hotel around midnight, my companions and I discovered that our card key was not functioning. We promptly proceeded to the reception desk and attempted to contact the number provided. Despite multiple calls, we received no response initially. Eventually, after persistent attempts, we managed to reach a member of your staff. However, the assistance provided was inadequate. We were merely directed to obtain another key for an alternative room for the night. While we were grateful for having a place to sleep, the experience was marred by the fact that my medication was inaccessible in our original room. Consequently, I experienced difficulty breathing throughout the night, resulting in considerable discomfort and sleeplessness. While I understand the absence of late operational desk and check-in procedures, I believe that emergency situations should be handled with greater urgency and care. I wish to emphasize that I intend to escalate this incident to the relevant authorities in Germany. Such oversights should not recur, as they pose serious risks to guests' well-being. Consider, for instance, the potential ramifications had the situation involved an infant instead of myself. I trust that you will take this matter seriously

We paid extra for the larger room. Nice large room with a giant window.
** Don't stay if you like to be warm. The heat only goes to 22c. 90% of the time it was at 21c. Coming in from a day out, you had to wear your jacket.
The beds were small and extremely hard.
The staff was friendly and house keeping checked in everyday. The front desk did bring up extra comforter because the room would not stay even at 22c.

Restuarant right next door is authentic German and very good. About a $35 USD cab ride to Cologne city center. Must call for cab. Close to Cologne Messe convention center.

Unfortunately their Aircon/heating was broken. The room temperature was stuck at 25C. Making it very uncomfortable for sleeping. When addressing this with the hotel staff, they shrugged their shoulders and told me that \"the company already fixed it.\" I told them this clearly wasn't the case but they seemed unwilling to go back to the aircon service company! All very polite and friendly, but it is clear that their management could not stand up for their customers (paying guests) to the aircon company. Disappointing

The room was surprisingly dirty. The bathroom was quite dirty, and had mold around the caulking in the shower. There was no shampoo or conditioner. We were upgraded to the fifth floor, which had a balcony / garden. The weeds were growing quite well, and the entire garden was unkept. You were not able to adjust the heat, and had to go to bed with the door and windows open to offset the 23C temp. Therefore we had to deal with street traffic noise, etc. I rarely give bad reviews, but I had to for this hotel. BTW the breakfast and service in the restaurant was very good.

This was just for a short stay on our way to a wedding in Cologne. We arrived late in the evening. Staff were efficient and friendly. Standard of room beyond what I would have expected at this price. Didn't really check out the facilities but the hotel was clean and well maintained with nice decor. Quality of breakfast and selection on offer was fine. EUR17 though. We stay in Mulheim a lot. The Brauhaus restaurant next door is superb for traditional German food and beer and is family friendly.

The parking situation is not very good at this hotel. It was very confusing getting into the parking lot. It was a quiet area. Check in staff was not very polite, felt we were interrupting them. They did get better later that day Room was clean. Parking is very expensive. Paid over 22 euros for 1 night.

I have stayed at this hotel quite a few times over the years due to the location to the Chempark and the Gilden Brauhaus next door, but I have to say that this hotel has gone downhill and is in need of refurbishment, the first room had a damp smell, so moved to another room, where the handles on the windows were falling off and the aircon was completely useless, as the temperature was 32 to 35 degrees C this was not good (this has also been a complaint in the past so all rooms have the same aircon problem). No hot water on the first morning which woke me up. High level of traffic noise, so intermittent sleep during the night. I will look for another hotel next time.

Very good hotel, only except location

I stayed 2 nights in 5th floor room. Room was very clean and cozy, but television was a little bit old and did not work. Staffs in Hotel were all very nice and friendly. Restaurant was really excellent! Wellness facilities such as Sauna and fitness room are also clean and well-organized. In overall, this hotel is recommended.

However, the only problem is the location. It's quite far from city center of Cologne (~30 mins by public transportation), and there are only 2~3 bus/tram line that I can get to city center directly without transfer.

QUITE DISAPPOINTING...

Front desk manager was least helpful and had an attitude. When we presented our loyalty card from Best Western, instead of getting a warm welcome, he kept on looking at us. After few seconds, we said we are here to check in. His response was \" unless you tell me, I wouldn't know if you are here to check in or check out\". We arrived around noon and this manager told us that room will not be available till 3 pm, regular check in time, and suggested we go out and leave our bags here. We decided to stick around and got the room within 20 minutes. There were numerous small instances where we felt that we are not welcome here. He also refused to honor Best Western loyalty points since we had booked through Expedia and they have to pay a large commission to Expedia. This may be the rule but we felt that we were being treated as second class citizens for buying. through Expedia.

We did not eat in resturant as we found the menu not very inspiring, and if you want a fresh coffee do not have one here as only luke warm and machine made. Comfortable accommodation with friendly helpful staff would recommend. Only downside is the 30 minute tram ride into the city centre, but that was no major problem 1 tram a number 4 straight into shopping centre and station just 300 metres walk from the hotel. Paid 150 euros for a two night weekend stay very reasonable I thought.

A modern clean hotel, in the Mulheim district of Cologne. Slightly far out of the city centre on the eastern banks of the Rhine, but easily accessible using the tram/light rail station that is about a ten minute walk away. The hotel car park is very expensive for a non-city centre location but there are free on street spaces out the front of the hotel if you are lucky enough to get one. It is quite safe even with foreign plates as there is a police station next door! Breakfast is also very expensive, just use the local cafes or supermarkets. The hotel rooms are large and all the staff I encountered were very professional and polite. They all also spoke beautiful English.

Average hotel in a poor location

I stayed in the Hotel for 2 nights whilst on business in Cologne. The Hotel was 'tired' looking and old fashioned and the location was poor. It is reasonably close to Bonn Airport, but there is nothing much in the close vicinity. The rooms were basic, but clean. The Reception staff were friendly and helpful.

Best Western ? Best Left Alone !

Booked a Standard room and was placed at the front of the Hotel next to a main road. Next morning I requested a different room as the traffic was constant and heavy, especially heavy goods veichles. Also a restauant outside whose customers did not leave quietly. I was informed that YES the hotel was aware of this which is why they have Quiet rooms at the back of the hotel - For an extra charge of £10 per night !

Also their \"Business Centre\" is 1 pc in a small room - Mouse didn't work and the printer had no paper and no ink. Also staff didn't know how to change the ink and had to wait until the Monday for the Maintenance people to do this!

Avoid this hotel !

I think most of best western hotels are great especially when it comes to cleanliness and professional service, at least based on my experience staying on different best western chains.

--Cologne best western is far from the city center, if you need to go to the center , it will cost you about 10-15 euros. If you will take the subway , its going to be about 1.5 or 2 km walk. this is very difficult during winter season.
--The price of meals are very cheap compared to Munich , Berlin an other big cities in germany. But if you got hungry there's no place you can choose from to eat that's near the hotel.

Bad service at the reception desk during ANUGA

Overall the hotel was okay (the facilities were clean and well maintained). However, one of the ladies at the hotel's reception desk offered terrible customer service. When I asked her for help with the printer in the hotel's business center, she told me she cannot help me and told me to ask someone else. I then asked if she can ask her colleagues for me and she said no then ignored me and turned to talk to another customer in German. The next day I asked her to exchange two $5 bills into coins, she rolled her eyes, grabbed the bills out of my hand and left the coins on the desk then walked away without saying a word. I'm just surprised by how other employees at the hotel seemed to be fine and offered great customer service except for this one lady at the reception desk.

After 3 busy days in Paris we took a train to Cologne and this hotel is just what we needed. We took a walk along the Rhine and through the neighborhood. The sauna was nice too. It's a bit far from the Old Town attractions but there is public transportation a few blocks away.

Easy walk to the urban rail and other transport

Hotel staff served my purpose,the included breakfast had a nice selection of choices. Bed was a little hard and bathroom small, but were clean and well stocked. Would suggest asking for a room on the west side of the building...as rooms on the east have a lot of road noise as well as pedestrian traffic walking back from the bar next door. One of the biggest drawbacks of the hotel was not enough evening food choices nearby and cost of taxi to downtown was 15-20 euros.

A few blocks to the nearest station and getting home later at night can be a hassle as the transit closes around 1:00 AM. A little traffic noise in the front rooms facing the street.

Good hotel for business or tourism

Generally the hotel was up to 4star standard and the food in the restaurant was excellent The only down side was that the surounding area was a bit grotty! However the tram was an easy 7minutes walk away giving easy access to the city centre.

Very Comfortable and Quiet Hotel

On arriving we was greeted by very friendly and helpful staff who were more than willing to speak English for us and help with whatever we needed. The Room was larger than we expected and was very comfortable. The buffet breakfast was very nice and the staff on hand very curteous. The Surrounding area is ok, and there is a park next door and a lidl up the road if you need some shopping. We had a car but you could get into the Centre of cologne via two trams with one running right past the hotel. We enjoyed the hotel a lot and will use it again next time we go to Cologne. Only quibble was that the air con / heater seemed not to work, but as the temp outside was normal it was not a bother. The wifi was good and it was nice it was free, and there is ample free parking outside the hotel.

The hotel was very clean & the breakfast was very good. The room was very well equipped with drinks, kettle and safe. The double glazing was very good because although we overlooked the road we didn't hear any noise. The location wasn't a problem for us as the tram station was only a short distance from the hotel.

Great hotel

Very good hotel (esp. for the price paid), comparable to best european Hilton and Crowne Plaza hotels. Convinient for Koln Messe (5 mins by car). 15 mins by tram to Koln city center. Breakfast was just OK, need to improve it to match 4*superior hotel standards.

Very nice hotel in good locaiton in Cologne

Very nice location, great rate, very friendly reception staff with great english. Very nice beer house next door we loved. Overall I would easliy stay there again, as it was easy to get to main Cologne areas by car. A nice bar and sitting area and a very good breakfast buffet.

great location, nice place to stay for fair

we stayed for 7 nights during the furniture fair. very convenient to get to train or bus and shopping and the fair without any traffic. wonderful restaurant next door. room was large and clean and hotel service was great with a fantastic breakfast buffet included.

One night flying visit to Cologne

Family of 5 including 3 teenagers - we booked 2 rooms as we were en route from UK to Innsbruck for Xmas skiing so location near to Cologne city centre wasn't essential.

There is a payable underground car park at the hotel but we parked the car outside the hotel overnight without incident. As we arrived around 5pm and I didn't want to drive into the city (or take the bus/tram/metro# we ate dinner in the Brauhaus #under separate management# about 30 metres away #turn right out of hotel and the Brauhaus is on the end of the block#. Didn't make it to the Xmas markets in the centre about 3 miles away - another time perhaps.

The breakfast was extensive with cereals, fruits, breads, cheeses, salamis and a restricted range of hot breakfast food #German sausages and crispy bacon rather than British style).

Typical, high quality German product. Good value for money.

At the rear of the hotel is a newish residential area with few facilities (eg shops, bars). In front of the hotel across the dual carriageway is the older residential area which does have a few more places of interest (ATMs, bars, Turkish supermarket, kebap shops) but nothing that would keep you from going into the city centre to look around. Both local areas are safe to walk around.
