The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean but fairly small. Unfortunately all I could heal all night was the footsteps of the guests in the room above me, which sounded a bit like they were part of the Riverdance crew.

Hot night in Koln
It was very hot during our stay in Koln - over 38C. There was no air-conditioning and no lift. so getting up the stairs to the unit was a challenge. There was a fan which operated all night and the window was wide open - noise was less of a problem than heat.
The hotel was well located near the Central Station, which was important as we were travelling by train. The station also provided access to some shopping for drinks etc. The main shopping centre was within walking distance.

Location is excellent. Within a very short walk to the station and all the sights. Spacious room with private bathroom and kitchenette. Downside is there is no lift in the building. We would however stay there again.

I love staying at this location! The staff was fantastic and the breakfasts were wonderful! The room was cosine clean and the bathroom was great although I wish the showerhead was a little higher quality. Overall, I thought it was a great experience and I would stay here again.

The hotel is in a great location, block and a half from the central train station (Hauptbonhof), and the Cathedral. We had a studio apartment. The staff was incredible. The breakfast was fantastic, with outstanding and I mean outstanding, service. The desk staff were very helpful in giving directions and printing tickets to events that we purchased online. We would stay there again without question.

Annex room dark, tv not working properly (stuck on one channel), toilet continued to flush all night. We asked ot be moved to main part of hotel which was much nicer.

I had to check in at a different location to where I was staying. Breakfast was also in that location so I had to put a coat on and walk to breakfast down the road every morning. Breakfast needs to have more hot food - not small crudites ans sweets. I was hungry and had to eat again after breakfast elsewhere. Room was very small. no wardrobe. Radiator kept making squeaking noises. Duvet was too thin. Pillow was square so I bought my own luckily. No bar in hotel. main good points were proximity to hbf. would probably stay somewhere else next time with bigger room and restaurant in same building as my room.

The location was good and the room was clean but tiny. There was not even space for a wardrobe so I kept my dresses in my suitcase.
There were only a few tables for breakfast so all of them were taken and I had to have my breakfast at the reception on a spare table. Not worth the money I spent. I wouldn’t go back, way too expensive for what I got.

The location of the hotel was good. Quiet neighborhood. Two blocks away from train station. Walking distance to a lot of attractions . The breakfast was superb, great variety, fresh and delicious.

ich war nicht, wie eigentlich gebucht im Hotel Domstern untergebracht, sonder im \"schwesternhotel\" Hotel Domspitzen in der gleichen Straße.Hatte leider das Einzelzimmer hinter dem Frühstücksraum bekommen. Sehr dunkel, Eingangs sind die Lichtschalter weit rechts hinter der Badezimmertür. Dieses Zimmer machte den Eindruck eines ehemaligen Abstellraums. War nicht so einladend.

This review is actually for the Hotel Domspitzen, a sister of the Domstern. Our check-in at the Dormstern was chaotic due to a communication problem and we ended up down the street at the Domspitzen.

Amazing breakfast
the door was locked when we arrived at 9:30pm so we had to walk to another hotel to check in and then let ourselves into the hotel and find our room. This would have been easier if I told the hotel of our late arrival and my German was better to understand the man at the other end of the buzzer. Room was small but more than adequate for a 12 hour stopover. The buffet breakfast was amazing and the service was great. The location is perfect for those arriving into the train station. Only other inconvience was that we had to pay 5€ city tax despite pre paying for the room.

The hotel room assigned to us was small and no A/C. Also the hotel did not have one cube of ice. When I asked about checking other hotels in the area they upgraded us to one of two rooms that had A/C at no charge, it was a Wed and Thur.

We were only in Cologne for 2 days for the Christmas markets. This hotel fitted the bill perfectly as it was very close to the station and the cost of the room was very reasonable bearing in mind it included breakfast. Staff were very friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. The room was a good size and was clean and comfortable. In the morning, as well as the cold buffet breakfast we were offered scrambled or boiled eggs. Overall, we were very happy with our brief stay.

Breakfast was really good- huge selection, freshly cooked. Staff very helpful- had a problem with hairdryer in the room but replacement was promptly brought to our room. Hotel Domstern is a very nice smaller hotel within walking distance of the train station, the Cathedral and the Rhein river. The people are very nice and the condition of the facilities are above average. Excellent breakfast. I recommend it if you want to go to Cologne.

Stayed for 3 nights to visit our son & look around Cologne. This hotel is in a great location - only a 5 min walk to the main station and near the Dom & museums/galleries. Also took a bus to Astranaut Cente & a boat trip down the Rhine. Buffet style breakfast included in price gave lots of choice & good start to the day. Staff friendly & very helpful. We felt warm and comfortable with the stay in Hotel Domstern/Hotel Domspitzen. The room is not so big but it's very clean and the decorations are pretty. All the receptionists are very kind and humorous. :) Just five-minute walking to Köln Hbf and Köln Dom.

Experience at the Domstern Hotel
This was a pleasant bed and breakfast type accommodation which was fairly comfortable. I felt uneasy that there was no one on site overnight and had to get in through a locked door. I understand that there was a sister hotel opposite with overnight staff. The staff were very friendly when on duty and the breakfast was excellent continental one with a large choice of cold meats, cheese, fruit and yoghurts etc. The accommodation was near the main train station and the river. Be careful which direction you walk as you could end up in unsavoury area which was a bit scary.

Only 5mins to Koln Hbf and 10mins to Cathedral.
Apparently, most people only spend a couple of days in Cologne, but there are lots of places worth visiting if you spend a little longer. The Botanical Gardens were wonderful, and you can then get on the cable car across the Rhine and walk along the opposite side of the Rhine for your return walk through the Rheinpark. Also, a trip up the LVR Tower gives one a superb view over the whole of Cologne. The Stadtmuseum was well worth a visit, with most information giving details in German and English.

Quick visit to see the cathedral
Broke journey between Amsterdam and Munich to see the cathedral. Hotel is very close to the station, old city and cathedral. Room didn't appear to be air conditioned but in May wasn't a problem. Outside noise wasn't an issue because of the double glazing. Some internal noise but wasnt an issue. Room was modernised, clean and as you would expect. Included breakfast was goodsnd staff were terrific. Happy to stay again.

We stayed two nights in this quiet comfortable hotel, excellent breakfast and close to the rail station and cathedral [which you reach through the station]. Take note: reception may be unmanned when you arrive. If no reply to entryphone go to the Hotel Domspitz, about 50 metres back to the station on the other side of the road. This is the sister hotel. In our case the entryphone was broken so not everyone will need this specialist knowledge!

This was a short break for a couple of nights. The Hotel is within ten minutes walk from central train station. The hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful nothing seemed to be too much bother for them. The room although small was very clean and adequate for the period of our stay. We had a lovely choice of continental breakfast just what we needed after our morning run. Thanks for those people who have previously stayed and posted their reviews, I may not have even considered it and would have missed out! Great little find.

A big disappointment
The best thing about this hotel is a nice breakfast, but you pay for it as the hotel is very overpriced in my opinion. We paid quite a lot inc. breakfast for a tiny attic room with no view and overlooking a roof with fans going all day/night. The welcome was efficient but not warm. The place is cheaply equipped and the bed was the worst I have ever encountered, bar on, in France. the mattress cover was badly stained and the matress saggy. Not good value for money.

We think that one of the most important ingredients for a hotel is friendly and helpful staff. This hotel has the most friendly and helpful team of people working for it that you could find anywhere. We would like to give particularly high praise to Stefan and Christian who could not have done more for us. My wife and a friend who we were travelling with had birthdays on the same day while we at the Hotel Domstern. Both Christian and Stefan went out of there way to make the day very special, we really appreciated the care and attention that they gave to us ensuring that our stay was very memorable. The rooms were warm and comfortable and the bathroom had all the facilities that we required. We had room 104 which was a front of hotel , 1st floor room. The area is quiet , partly residential and partly offices and there was never any noise disturbance during our stay. The breakfast was wonderful, with a vary large and varied cold selection, plus the offer of eggs cooked for you to your requirements.

Booked this hotel - ended up in another Hotel!
We did our research and this hotel was no. 1 so we booked it weeks before our trip. we were called on the phone by the hotel and asked if we would accept being moved to Domspritz hotel instead. The rating for that hotel was no. 41 so we confirmed no we wanted to book the hotel we had chosen. We were told we were booked in at Domstern.
We arrived at Domstern and were told we had a room down the road in Domspritz hotel. I said that we had been offered other hotel but that I had confirmed the booking there. The receptionist told us there was no room for us as they were full with a big party. Fellow Travellers should beware! We were not the first to be bumped according to other reviews.
Will be giving Domspritz a review as a result of all this. Not impressed at all.

My partner and I spent 4 days in Cologne and throughly enjoyed the break. The Hotel was very handy to everywhere and the staff in the Hotel were very friendly and helpful. The room was fine apart from the bathroom was very small, but for all the time you spend in your room it was fine. The breakfast was lovely plenty of choice.

Excellent choice for Christmas Markets
Booked to stay here based on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. We wanted a hotel close to the station and Christmas markets but without noise, and that is exactly what we got. We had cake in the room on arrival which was a nice touch. The breakfast selection was perfect for us. My only improvement point would be tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

Great location . 5minute walk from cathedral and 3 minutes from rear of rail station.
We had a very large room (400) which had a large bed and a very large bathroom. The carpets in our room were a bit stained and could do with replacing. Like a lot of hotelsI in mainland Europe there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Wifi was good and was free. Breakfast was buffet style and a cooked breakfast was available if required. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I will stay again the next time I visit Colonge

Perfect location
Stayed 3 night to enjoy the Christmas markets, arrived on early flight so intended to go to the hotel to drop our bag off. reception changed our room to an available one so we could not only drop our bag off but un pack and enjoy the rest of the day. Perfect location close to Hauptbanhof, friendly staff, clean and tidy. Room functional, my fault for not checking but could do with tea/coffee making facilities.
Would thoroughly recommend this hotel if all you want is sleep and brerakfast. If you do intend to spend time in the room then this place is not for you.

SO VERY DISSAPOINTING
The hotel is spotless, in a good location and with a good breakfast. What lets it down is the fact that you can hear the road, hear the guests above and to the side of you and would you believe the people in the room in the hotel next door! I kid you not. The shower in 104 kept going hot and cold. The beds I think are foam and very uncomfortable, are not a double but two singles, with a stupid pillow and a small duvet. Such a shame. Hated the place!

Great little hotel in a quiet but very central loc
Great little hotel in a really good location (though quite hard to find on first arrival), just 5 mins walk from the main train station and cathedral. Room was small but comfortable & immaculate & shower room was also spotless & well equipped. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast really good. The street is really quiet at night despit it's central location. Honestly can't fault it for the price and would very happily stay there again.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, giving us a map and directions to where we wanted to visit. It was an extremely welcoming hotel with lots of nice touches. The breakfast was excellent. The room was a bit cramped but comfortable enough, although the bed was two single beds pushed together.

Very nice hotel near the train station and cathedral. Nice room. Best breakfast spread I have encountered with high quality ingredients. Friendly and considerate owners. I had to catch an early train and planned to leave before breakfast hours. One owner directed me to their sister hotel down the street which starts serving breakfast earlier, so that I could eat before I left.

Friendly little hotel
The staff were excellent and the hotel was spottlessly clean and tidy. The room was small but for a shirt stay for one person perfectly addiquate. If there is any critism it's that the furnishings and shower could be updated and new TV installed. In this day and age an old small TV perched on the wardrobe just doesn't cut the mustard. Something easy to rectify and would gain the hotel a higher rating. If you are visiting an exhibition by train then it's perfectly placed.

Great Breakfast
The hotel is a small town house type and has been renovated to high standards, but in a quite minimalist style. The room was quiet, and adequate in size, but the storage space would not really be adequate for long stays. The star attraction is the breakfast, which as well as all the stuff you expect has extra dainties such as prawns in mayonnaise and chocolate pudding. Service is excellent, but the hotel is unstaffed for part of the day. There is a lift.

Nice quiet hotel close to the sights of Cologne
A 5 minute walk from the main railway station in Cologne and the Cathedral, this was a comfortable and clean hotel in an attractive building. The street outside was quiet with no passing traffic. Breakfast was buffet-style, with a good selection of dishes - fruit, cereals, freshly cooked omelettes, cold meats and so on. The friendly staff (who spoke good English) were very helpful. The bedroom and bathroom were both very clean and the bed was comfortable, but the tv was positioned on top of a very high wardrobe (however as we were out for most of the day and evening, this did not really matter). We would definitely stay there again.

Based on excellent reviews I booked my wife and I into this hotel 3 months in advance of our trip to Cologne. On arrival we were told the hotel was over booked and we were sent to another hotel with a lower rating than the Domstern. There was plenty of time to inform us of this change which would have enabled us to make our own minds up on whether or not we accept this change. I like to research where I stay and therefore found this totally unacceptable. I remember reading a similar review which I unfortunately choose to ignore. If you like to stay where you book then I'd suggest you don't bother with the Hotel Domstern...just in case you end up elsewhere.

Christmas markets in cologne
We stayed overnight at hotel domstern whilst visiting the Xmas markets. It was very close to the station where we arrived and a few mins walk to the nearest market. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff were incredibly friendly. Breakfast was a delight and the location though very central was also lovely and quiet. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family.

Very much pleased with this hotel. The location was excellent, a five minute walk to anything-What impressed us the most was the staff; VERY helpful and friendly with lots of good advice. We were happy with the room-The room was small and basic but had everything we needed; Furnishings were a little worn and dated but room was clean. What made it was the fact it had a super high ceiling and large high windows; The room felt big and let in lots of light. Would stay there again. Only other downside was when driving to the hotel, it is located on a one way street; with LOTS of one way streets surrounding it! Make sure you have a good map when driving; The hotel had secured parking lot across the street we parked at; for a minor surcharge.

Nice boutique hotel close to train station
This hotel is managed by two very friendly men, who took care of all questions. The breakfast, included in the room rate was very good. On the downside, my room (303) was very small, with no room for even a bedside nightstand. Further, the bed was not very comfortable. I did mention these concerns to the host. Please note that the rooms do not have AC, could be rough going in hot weather. I recommend highly for quality of service in a personal service conscious boutique hotel.

No Airconditioning in Hot Spell
We found the staff at this hotel very helpful, the breakfast was great and so was the location. But, the rooms were VERY small and there was no airconditioning. The photos we had seen showed a little fridge in the rooms, which there was not. The staff kindly provided us with a fan but our two nights were still very hot and airless. Sadly, because of this we would not stay here again.
