This staff, especially Mohammad, went beyond the call of duty. My rental car battery died in the garage because I left my hazards on. When I told him the problem. He first looked at the car with me to see if there was a back up battery. When I couldn’t get my call to go through to roadside services, he used his personal phone; when we found out they were closed for the day, he called the rental car company, met the truck with me and made sure it started. He helped us every step of the way. He was so kind. We met 3 of the front desk staff- and each one was friendly as well.
This is also a great location. We walked to so many things.

Feeling mislead and scammed.

Horrible experience with this hotel. Would give them 0 stars if I could. Asked if we could switch hotels (exact same hotel different part of the city) to be closer to the train station we were arriving at very late at night. They advised consideration would be given once we booked the other hotel and provided the confirmation number. We did this and hoped for a switch. The day after check out we got a message saying they would not honour the switch and we were on the hook for the bookings at both hotels. I found this very misleading and scheming on their part to get more $ out of us. Would never stay at this hotel again! Very disappointed in their conduct!

Just what was needed and a great location.

Didn’t realise I had booked a hostel but the private room was very good for the time I was staying in the Cologne. The staff were excellent and kind and extremely helpful especially with sorting a fan out in the middle of the night due to the heat. Location just a 5 minute walk from Central Station is also a positive.

Great Stopover

We visited as a quick stopover enroute by train from Sweden to the UK.

The hotel was easy to find and a short walk from Cologne station. We arrived just after 11.30pm and were greeted and provided our room.

The room was basic, but clean, warm and functional.

Only downside was no lift as we had some heavy bags, but on balance a great experience.

Nice receptio, friendly staff. The weather was very hot, no air conditioning so I had to have the windows open. This let in a lot of noise from the small park and playground opposite and the boy racers squealing their tires and revving their engines until the early hours. Hardly the hotel's fault though. This property, although it calls itself a hotel, it's more like a hostle. It's more of what it doesn't have then what it does have. There is no AC, no phone, no washcloths, no hand towels, no fan, no elevator, one hanger. It felt way too minimalistic and definitely not worth the $200 a night that we paid.

At the time of reservation, there was no explanation that it was a hostel. Our room was for two people, but there was no elevator in the entire building, so I had to carry heavy bags up to the 3rd floor, and I felt a lot of pain because of my bad knees. The weather was 29 degrees and there was no air conditioning in the room. Only 2 towels. The bathroom smelled bad. I booked this place 2 months ago for $572 CAD for 2 nights. It's a ridiculous place for that price.

This is our 2nd time staying. Love the place, the location is amazing, the staff are magnificent. Just need a little bit of TLC on the cleaning part. This time are room has mold by the window and the shower has mold on the grout. Other than that the place is really good.

The stay was okay, but the room smelled weird. I was the only female in the room and there were a bunch of old men. I picked the top bunk and stayed there, but one of the men kept peeking onto my bed. I tried to book another night, but they wouldn't let me pay the difference to get a female only room. Honestly, there needs to be more rooms or an option on here for female only rooms because I'm a little scared if some guy thinks it's okay to watch me as I sleep.

We travelled with our 2 sons(13 &10).The receptionist was friendly on arrival and the room very spacious. We were given bedding to make up the children’s bunk beds, which took 2 mins, but ours was already done. The location is very close to station and cathedral so perfect for sightseeing and yes there is train noise but hardly any if you close the windows and you are in the centre of a city after all. For what we paid this was clean, comfortable, spacious and great value for money and I would stay there again.

The bathroom smelled like a public restroom. Hairs on pillowcases. There were dead bugs lining the hallway to the rooms. The roof area that you could see out side the windows on the way to the room had old dirty socks on it. Cigarette butts everywhere. Super loud all night from kids hanging out at the park across the street. And since the room was hot, we had to sleep with the windows open. Cigarette smoke and noise came through our 2nd floor window all night. No elevator so we had to carry all of our luggage up the stairs.

One of our comforters we had to put in the cover looked like someone wiped their bloody snot nose with it and was never washed. Wished for more breakfast options for the price though. The Buffet was not worth 7€/adult

The staff was great though and over all was a decently clean place to stay.

For this being my first Hostel experience, I will DEFINITELY look at staying at an A&O in the future.

One thing I couldn't understand was the HUGE size difference between the TV that was in the room I stayed in (a family room) and the lobby of the hostel. The TV in the room was MAYBE 19\", while the lobby had a 40\" or 42\" easily.

We arrived quite early on 22/01 and the front desk staff was just amazing! He saw that we have heavy luggages and helped us to check one of the rooms on the first floor so we won't have to lug it all the way up. He managed to secure us one of the rooms on the same level as the reception and it was so much appreciated. The room is just a basic private room with private bath and just warm and toasty during the cold night. Just note though that if you have big luggage, then you will have to carry it several steps up. Otherwise, this is a wonderful hostel near to the HBF with wonderful staff.

A basic hotel, you get what you pay for! We were a family of 4 staying for 3 nights. Breakfast was typical of such hotels, food was fresh and tables etc clean. The room was clean with freshly pressed linen (had to make up beds ourselves). The kids had bunk beds and we had two singles pushed together. Negetives: we didn't master the shower temperature in all the time we were there (but it was clean, positives: friendly multilingual staff, hotel within easy walking distance of cathedral & museums. Area seems safe overall but of the major cities we've visited as a family, I'd say we were most on our guard in Cologne.

Good hostel close to station and cathedral

This is a clean friendly hostel 5 mins walk from Koln Main station and the cathedral. Comfy beds, good shower and we had a room for four with lots of space. Breakfast was good value for the four of us at 21E. Friendly helpful staff. Only negatives is lack of air con and no lift but what do you expect for this price? Great value. Would recommend.

The guy working the front desk when we arrived, clearly hated his job. Next morning there was someone much more pleasent. I wish there was a sign for the parking garage. It didn't seemed like they cleaned the rooms very well. We found some dusty surfaces.

I had a single room with private bathroom , very clean which is important, comfortable bed & 10 minutes walk from the main station and the cathedral and main shopping/ tourist area. It’s not bad as you think.

This is a hostel to start with so don’t expect a hotel facilities to start with. It’s very close to the central station, the cologne cathedral & the main city centre. Staff were very friendly & helpful. I don’t want to say any bad words against this hostel since I intentionally chose this place because of the location. However, winter time is a struggle because of the heating that is not sufficient to warm up the entire room.
So far I had a good experience with my stay.

Set your expectations low for a nice surprise

The A&O chain is unashamedly basic, closer to a hostel than a hotel. So long as you realise this basic fact, you won't be disappointed. The A&O Hauptbahnhof hotel is perfectly located for exploring the city and small enough to keep the large school groups out. The rooms are basic, but clean, and our family room was perfectly sized for two adults and two teenagers. Unlike A&O Berlin Mitte, this hotel is very quiet - at least in terms of noise from the other residents.

The only downside to the hotel is the proximity to the mainline railway - trains pass within a few feet of the windows 24 hours a day. Eventually you get used to the noise, but it takes a while.

We stayed here one night. Rooms were fine, but the lobby was horrible and really run down. Parking garage was really small and staff really tried to dissuade me from using it. There was no other option unfortunately. Main bed in the room was made, but the two bunk beads were not. No elevator; no one showed us to the room or even said where it was. The location was great, however and the staff spoke English.

Good Location, but.....

This is really a hostel and not a hotel. The breakfast was sufficient, but the water temperature constantly changing while taking a shower and the VERY slow draining bathroom sink was not. How could housekeeping have cleaned teh room and not noticed this? We only stayed one night, and checked in around 6pm.
The room was big but it was not a hotel type that I'm used to.

Overpriced for what you get

I have to give this hotel a solid two stars.

The facility is old and has no elevator. The room is large enough and the bathroom is really the only good part of the room. The beds and pillows are old and VERY flat. When we asked for another pillow we were told there's only one pillow per bed in the ENTIRE BUILDING. If you're unfortunate enough to stay on the side of the building facing the train station, you wont get a wink of sleep.

A great base close to everything

We traveled to Cologne to experience the Christmas markets.. The hotel/ hostel was a great base very close to the station and only a 5 minute walk to the Cathedral and the 1st market.
There is teh use of a kettle but you have to pay a refundable €10 deposit.

With the amount paid, place is well worth it. I think there is no offer from hotel/ hostel around it that can match their price. However bear in mind this hotel has a youth hostel style attached to it. Its more practical than stylish. Cleanliness is average but acceptable. Cable tv and Wifi in room are working good. Room size is good. Bathroom is spacious with bathub.The reception who checked us in was friendly and the receptionist who helped us to extend our stay was great and helpful(it was a woman but I forgot her name. She was super cool!)

Needed to reset expectations to hostel, not hotel

This is a hostel, and that explains a lot--nothing fancy at all. What we liked--location was an easy walk from the central train station and the great Cathedral, the room was a decent size, and the price was right. Not so great--looked like they missed cleaning the floor behind the bathroom door and in the closet, had to make up 2 of the beds ourselves, the hot water was temperamental, and the internet was only working 1 out of 2 nights. I would give another hotel a try before staying here again.

There is a park right across the street but the neighborhood is sort of stetchy so we didn't go often. Very short walk from the train station so that was a major plus.

Good location but bland hostel-like rooms, no lift

Convenient location close to the main train station, but I was surprised to find my \"single\" room furnished with 4 bunk beds and two single beds, cold tiled floors and no chairs. Don't be fooled into thinking it's a hotel; it's really a hostel, but if you pay the full hotel rate ($127 Euros in my case), you don't have to share your room with strangers. It may sound like you're sharing it though, if you happen to get a rowdy group in a hostel room next to you. There isn't even an elevator (lift), so you will have to carry your luggage up the narrow staircase. The bathroom looked clean but plain, however it smelled like a dirty mop was used. Because it's a hostel, you only get one bath towel per person, and no hand towels or wash cloths. It was clean, conveniently located, and continental breakfast included...but it was not a comfortable room. Also be aware that it is right beside the train station tracks, so you will hear and feel a lot of rumbling. If you need a quiet room, this is not the place for you, because of the nearness to the trains and the potential of nearby hostel guests.

It’s not bad for a 1-night stay. Especially if you are in transit. But the reception area is very unwelcoming, cold, with vending machines lining one wall.

The room itself was simply ‘okay’. Clean enough. Bed was comfortable. The shower was deadly slippery — so if you issues with mobility I would not recommend using the shower.

Overall, for the price, I would have expected a more comfortable experience.

Wir wurden super nett Empfangen.Alles wurde uns erklärt. Das Personal ist super nett und sehr hilfsbereit. Auch nach dem Check Out konnten wir unser Gepäck sicher verwahren lassen bis unser Zug fuhr. Auch ein weiterer Aufenthalt im Hostel nach dem Check Out war kein Problem( Aufenthaltsraum. Auch Kaffee wurde uns Angebot.

Sehr zentral, aber schmuddelige Bahnhofsgegend. Im Zummer vieles dreckig, abgenutzt oder kaputt, Mängel wurden trotz Rückmeldung am Empfang nicht behoben.
