Friendly staff, clean, good showers, quite happy but let down by unbearably hot dormitory - yes the weather was hot but the fact the windows in the room didn’t open more than 10cm did not help. Also the hostel had a strangely impersonal vibe

I know hostels can be noisy, but screaming and shouting at 2am, 4am and 6am was too much even for me. Even the earplugs I had didn’t block it out. Staff were great though, would just be nice to see some ‘Be respectful of other guests’ signage around to remind the serial shouters.

location was great and in a very close distance to the train station. and the central attractions.
Cleanliness, was good for the amount paid. bed linings were clear and ready to be fitted to the bed by ownself.
Staff were helpful but very busy all the time dealing with customers.
Facilities needed for a backpacker were sufficient: WiFi, Socket, Space to sit and eat and work and enjoy the time.
Bar and reception area was however, noisy and tiny and crowded most of the times.
Happy to come again if needed for a low budget visit to the city.

The accommodation is cheap and basic but is conveniently situated with a 5min walk of the railway station. The rooms were clean and spacious and the beds were comfortable but the bar area was tatty and dull with ripped sofas and I feel there should have been more toilets. Only 2 on each floor so often occupied.

THE noisiest and most unruly property in Cologne.

Sadly I had a terrible experience at the Station Hostel.

I booked 3 months in advance for a private room for a 2 night midweek stay during my trip to Germany.

The location is absolutely fantastic, just minutes from the main station. Check in was friendly and efficient and I was pleasantly surprised when I got to my room. Super clean, the bed was extremely comfortable, nice big windows allowing plenty of light. Small desk and a lovely compact small toilet and shower.

Bedding, towels and toiletries were provided and a modest €1 is charged per extra towel if you need more than one. The common areas on the ground floor are lovely and the bar / restaurant is cosy and very welcoming. This could have been such a pleasant experience.

It wasn’t the hotel that ruined it, it was the groups of teens staying in the rooms around me. I had room 409. Rooms 410,411 and 412 had students in them who partied and misbehaved until well after 4am. I got absolutely no sleep for doors slamming, furniture being thrown about, shouting, swearing, screaming, running and fighting in the hall ways, banging on walls….. it was absolutely AWFUL. They behaved like animals with total disrespect for any other guests trying to sleep.

Sadly the staff leave at midnight and so there isn’t anyone there to deal with noise complaints and people can simply behave as they wish.

I left to go about my day the next day but felt tired and came back to try and have a nap in the afternoon, however the party had started a

The whole property, although in a nice neighborhood, appears shabby and grimy. The mattress should have been replaced years ago, and it sagged and gave me a back-ache when I got up, which affected my holiday.

Ideal location adjacent to the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) & city centre.
The dormitory, toilets, showers & communal areas were all clean.
The WiFi worked perfectly with additional hubs across the floors to ensure a good connection.
Multi lingual staff were pleasant & helpful.
I made use of the offer to store luggage free of charge after officially checking out & was pleased that the storage room had around 100 lockers, rather than just being a room where bags could be interfered with.
The only disappointment was that I was too fat for the largest available sweatshirt - would otherwise have bought one.

Great place for a solo traveller: clean & vibrant

The location is impreccable. In general, the hostal is great. Unfortunately though my room smelt of cigarettes, which the manager did try and help by giving me air freshener and offering to wash the curtains if needed. Sometimes customer service could be a little more curtious, but maybe that is from a British perspective.

I stayed on New Years Eve, and the place had a good party vibe - the following days it was calm and pleasent. I didn't get chance to sign out officially as I left at 4am and there was no one on the 24hr desk - but I was in a rush so I wasn't too bothered about my euro back for the key card.

I would definitely stay there again as a solo traveller.

Atmospheric with enthusiastic staff

Excellent hostel with attentive and friendly staff. Bar is atmospheric, staffed by top class, lively and helpful individuals. Beds are comfortable. Decor is typical hostel plain style. Location is perfect, close to nightlife, shopping and railway station. Shower floors slightly slippy but water is warm and everything is clean.

The location was great! Close to the train station, restaurants, shops and cathedral. The wifi was horrible and didn't work in my room (211). I attempted to tell the one staff and he was rude and condescending, talking to me like I know nothing about wifi connecting. Reality is the wifi only works in the hallways, toilets, stairways and a little bit by reception not in at least my room. The showers are unisex with stalls, still a little weird for foreigners. There were youth students running around in the evening being loud and obnoxious. Pretty sure it's called a backpackers so didn't expect or appreciate school kids being there. Not the vibe I was expecting. Overall, not a horrible hostel but I probably wouldn't stay again.

Popular comfortable hostel close to Main Station

I'm confused by a lot of the reviews. I assume they may be from long ago. Based on those I was was nervous about this stay.
Happy to say that most of the reviews seem (to me) to be baseless or petty.

The site is about 4 minutes walk or less from the train station and cathedral. The beer garden and rear of the hostel does face the tracks/station and so yes there is some noise but this was minor with the double glazed window open and barely noticeable with it closed.
At least during my stay there was little noise from the beer garden late at night.
Check in was easy and efficient. Very friendly staff all around.
I was in a 5 bed dorm and this was spacious and comfortable. Each bed has a light and table. The beds are open, not bunks. Most beds made no noise one in thre room squeaked a bit when the guy rolled over.
Rent towels for a small fee and comes with soap.
I carry medication that needs refrigeration and this was the first time I've been told I had to pay to use the fridge. However, it was only 2 euro a day and the fridge rented is actually a secure fridge(imagine lockers in a fridge) which impressed me for security.
There are lockers in the hallways for valuables. Bring a lock or rent one there.
The toilets and bathrooms were clean, tiled and had hooks and shelves. Lots of hot water and pressure.
The bar and staff were good fun.
Downside - breakfast is overpriced
I would definitely stay here again.

The hostel was well equipped with restaurant-great food, the staff were lovely and helpful, cleanliness can not be faulted.
It is a busy place, a hive of activity (all day and most of the night) and a great place for those who lead an active evening and night life. Alas, perhaps best left for the younger generation. Otherwise ...Well situated just a block from the main train station and Cologne's beautiful Cathedral. Close to major shopping areas and tourist information center. An overall great place to stay if you don't mind late nights.

1: Location: couldn't be better!! Walk to Central train station in 1 minute and everything is within walking distance. 2: Service:professional, friendly, very helpful front desk! Better than the 5star hotel ones who gives fake expensive smiles, you get genuine friendly service:) 3:big room. A free locker on request by corridor. 4. P. S. I was lucky to have my first night almost alone, very good sleep:)

OK hostel, not the worse, but I've seen better

Next to the Cathedral and the train station. Perhaps too close to the train station, if you sleep with the windows open, you'll hear all the trains. In my five beds bedroom, there were virtually no electric plug. All the beds had personnel lamps, but none of them were plugged in, which meant that people had to open the main lamp at night when coming in. Also, I had to use my battery bank to charge my phone at night. The opening and especially closing doors are noisy, not the best at night. The washroom are nice and clean in the morning, but can be quite disgusting at night, especially on Friday or Saturday night since there's a bar downstairs and people are partying. There's nice big lockers in the hall, but none in the rooms.

Pros: This hotel is in a very convenient location, and the staff is very helpful and friendly. I didn't get to go to the bar/restaurant but it seems like a nice spot. Free Wi-Fi with a good connection.
Cons: uncomfortable bed (I was in a private room). Very noisy. Filthy bathrooms on the night I stayed.
If you book this place, do so with reasonable expectations. Bring ear plugs!

Be careful about bugs in bedding...be well prepare

Bugs in beds. Many inmates complaint of insect infestation in beds and pillows. One room mate had to change the room.
One one day Grass smoking by neighbouring rooms scared away new female inmates to move out.

I didn't expect it to be that nice.First of all the staff were so welcoming, nice and helpful.The room I stayed in was great.I had such a good sleep every night I stayed there.The heating is really good too.The bathroom is ok.You have to share the bathroom like you share the room, but it is ok I don't have any complaints.It was clean and I didn't have to stay in line to use it.I liked the shower a lot.O and there is also a hairdryer,which is really good.The bar is very pleasent ;you can just relax.Anyway my stay there made my holiday much better.

This was kind of a miserable stop, while the price was right for two nights, sleep was not had. A traveling soccer team and a squeal from the train station (literally across the street) left for sleepless nights in a less than friendly town. Needless to say I won't be back.

I stayed in a single room with a twin bed. Minimal furniture, but in good condition. Shared bathrooms and shower facilities were clean and in ample number. Very convenient to the train station. Wifi was fast and dependable in the room.

Booked a hotel in cologne Germany online for 2 adults and it said £24 per double room/2 people.
I paid online. And when i checked in the receptionist said that their computer system is down and they can't check if i have booked a room or not and i even showed her on my phone that i have booked it and paid it! But they didn't accept that! So i had to book again and pay an other £24 per person! Never mind i did it coz i was desperate for a stay as me and my friend were so tired. When i went to the room it was like beggars home! So disgusting.
I will never ever book a hotel from Expedia again. Dont waste your time and money. You will regret it.

Great Hostel spirit

A very good quality/price hostel in Cologne. close to the main train station, all the main museums, landmarks and restaurant, bars, cafes, shopping street.

No breakfast included but a kitchen to prepare whatever you fancy to grab and cook from a supermarket.

Friendly staff except one or two guys that should be a bit more giving smile but at least they are efficient. the girls of the staff are very nice, helping and friendly.

Good shower, bathroom toilets shared by storey. clean.

the room was good.just please do something to getwifi access at all floors.

hostel no surprise but you can meet new people and make new friends.

That's the spirit!

Convenient Comfortable and Economical stopover

The hostel is conveniently located a a short walk from bus and train station and within a couple of minutes walk of the Cathedral. The old city and the Rhine embankment are ontes further on foot. The room was comfortable and clean, very secure, and considering that it overlooks the busy station and hosts a lot of young backpackers, was surprisingly quiet(we had a 3rd floor room so lower floors may be different) The was only one flight of steps to climb, a lift servicing the 2 upper floors from there. There seemed always at least 1 staff member on duty who spoke good English and staff were helpful with information The Wifi in the common room and kitchen area worked well. The adjacent bar and restaurant was comfortable and served basic ood value meals.

Close to everything. Easy to get to the city center and the Hbf. Easy to check in and get to the room. Turned out it I had bedbugs in the room, so I’m covered in bites. But we solved it on the hostel. You hear everything, so the dudes that showered on Saturday to Sunday at like 1 and singing I could hear it all.

Schmutzige / ungereinigte Sanitäranlagen

Die sanitären Einrichtungen (Dusche, WC) waren die ganze Zeit so schmutzig / ungereinigt, dass eine Benutzung unzumutbar war.
Als ich mich an die Rezeption wendete und auf so schmutzige / ungereinigte Sanitärräume verwies, meinte man achselzuckend, das Reinigungspersonal hätte sich krankheitsbedingt abgemeldet und so sei eine Reinigung nicht durchführbar - man verwies mich dann so, dass ich trotz meines Zimmers auf dem 2. OG mich auf den anderen Etagen umschauen solle , ob irgendwo ein WC wäre , was irgendwie noch erträglich wäre - ansonsten meinte man zu mir , dass normalerweise die Sanitäreinrichtungen !!!!! alle 2 Tage !!!!! mal durchgewischt werden , was angesichts von so vielen Gästen , die die WCs gemeinsam nutzen , auch eine ZUMUTUNG ist .
Offenbar ist man in diesem Hostel in der Lage , die hohen Zimmerpreise zu kassieren , ohne sich um die Sauberkeit der sanitären Anlagen zu kümmern. Nie wieder so ein Hostel, in dem es so schmutzig ist und wo einem bereits auf den Etagengängen ein extremer Gestank nach Urin entgegenschlägt, wenn man nur an den WCs vorbeigeht.

運が悪かったのか、修学旅行と思われる子供（中学生か高校生か）の集団と同じ日に泊まることになってしまった。夜19時ごろから24時ぐらいまで、廊下を走り回り、ドアをばたばた開け閉めし、奇声がするのを我慢しなければならなかった。とても寝付ける状況ではなかった。

ホテルのスタッフの対応はよく、ドイツ語が全く話せず、英語もカタコトの自分の会話をちゃんと理解してくれた。

ホテルでは無くホステルなので、アメニティ類は最低限（バスタオル一枚と、シャンプーらしきもの。洗面所にはハンドソープ）しか無いので、必要であれば街中で調達すべき。

子供の件がなければ、バックパッカー向けの宿としては問題ありません。

Had a single room next to showers. The isolation was so bad that each time someone took a shower, it felt like it was happening in the room. There was no ventilation either and the outside was too noisy with the window open. Did not get much sleep.

Die Lage des Hostels ist super. Die Ausstattung spartanisch. Während des heißen Sommerwetters wäre - wenn schon keine Klimaanlage vorhanden ist - wenigstens ein Ventilator angenehm. Aber ich werde wieder ein Zimmer in diesem Hostel buchen.

Für junge Gäste optimal für ältere die es gerne ruhiger haben nicht zu empfehlen. Abends ist party in der dazugehörigen bar/resturant was natürlich zu einer erhöten lautstärke führt und das erschwert natürlich das schlafen.
Fazit wer zum Party machen nach Köln kommt ist hier super aufgehoben. Für alle anderen nicht zu empfehlen

Die Lage ist top, für nur eine Nacht kann man es verkraften zu dem Preis.
Vor allem die Sanitäranlagen sind schlimm, ich hätte mich dort nicht waschen können. Aus dem Abfluss im Badezimmer (Damen, 2. Stock) kamen lauter kleine Fruchtfliegen und einige Abortfliegen waren auch unterwegs. Die Klos werden zwar von den Gästen verschmutzt, aber dann muss man mehr dahinter sein.
Auch mit der Buchung lief irgendetwas falsch, zuerst funktionierte meine Kreditkarte nicht (NICHT deren Fehler), dann bekam ich die Daten für die Banküberweisung. Danach meldete man sich nicht bzw. wollte keinen Nachweis der Überweisung sehen, somit dachte ich es hätte alles geklappt. Bei Ankunft wurde mir gesagt, dass sie das Bett eigentlich storniert hätten, da ich nicht gezahlt habe. Somit musste ich erneut zahlen (in bar vor Ort) und muss jetzt per Mail die erste Zahlung wieder zurückfordern oder von meiner Bank die Überweisung irgendwie retournieren lassen. Ziemlich unnötiger Aufwand.

Sehr netter Service und extrem zentrumsnah gelegen! Saubere, ausreichend geräumige Zimmer. Allerdings empfehle ich dringend Ohrstöpsel, da das Gebäude sehr hellhörig ist und man wirklich jedes Flüstern hört.
