Room and facilities excellent but TV had no signal (Not needed,so did not report. Friday and Saturday night, noise from disco next door until 1.00 am. Despite good soundproofing from street noise, drumbeats intruded.
Staff sympathetic and helped in every other possible way with my requests. Nothing was too much trouble and electric kettle provided on request for hot drinks in my room.

When we arrived the staff were so helpful, our room was ready early so we got to check in. The rooms were absolutely spotless and modern, the room was cleaned daily and fresh towels provided. The hotel is in a prime location, right near the cathedral and bars. We never had to use a taxi besides to and from the airport. Could not fault this hotel in the slightest. Highly recommend.

The staff was very good. The room was cramped due to awkward placed furniture. They need to remove a few pieces. Although, the bathroom was recently remodeled. The interior of the hotel needs updates. We have been traveling for a month now and the overall condition of this hotel would be towards the bottom, but still acceptable. The location is good and everything is walkable. Many good restaurants very close by. The main strain station is an easy 5 minute walk.

Needs an update!

It’s a very old hotel where you need an “old”key to manually open the doors. The elevator has a door that you have to slide open before entering. The service desk attendant was hesitant to go give us water.

The only problem for our room was that it was next to the bar next door. They had loud music and karaoke up until midnight and it kept us both awake both nights.

Just an overnight stop with my son. Outside hotel looks bland but the room was spacious, well furnished and a modern bathroom. We arrived at 10pm and left at 7am so didn’t use any other services. Location is good, close to Train Station and the Cathedral

The reception was excellent and very helpful, and there are many things very good - nice linens and pillows (bed was a bit firm for my taste, but not bad at all), very clean, good breakfast, great location. However, we had a weird room. I didn’t realize I was booking a suite. It has stairs inside the room between where the bath and bedroom is (which is in the pictures), but it also has a toilet room that is very awkward to use as you have to sit under a sink! That was not in the pictures. I think their regular rooms are better. Also - we were there on the weekend and there are 2 very loud bars next door. Bring earplugs (I always have some so it wasn’t a problem for me).

We viisted this hotel to go to the Cologne Christmas Markets. It's ideally placed just behind the Dom and an easy walk from the station. It was an absolute delight. We had an excellent suite (quite unexpected), very comfortable, splendid breakfast spread. It doesn't have it's own restaurant but there is a huge choice down beside the river. Top marks.

Accessible to everything in Cologne

Perfect location walking distance from the main train station , beside all the major museums and landmarks and for the Christmas markets.
The hotel is clean, warm and managed by friendly efficient staff. Our room had a separate sitting room which could double a another bedroom if needed.
We didn't eat there because there were so many great coffee houses and restaurants nearby.
I will definitely stay there again and would highly recommend it.

I booked double room for single use. It’s spacious and comfy. It would be better if a kettle with tea and coffee are provided. Mind you that there’s a pub next to the hotel. It was extremely noisy especially during weekends. The strong music would not stop until 1am!

I reported in the beginning that it was too hot in the room and the hotel immediately wanted to help me solve the problem. Staff is incredibly friendly.
The rooms are quite tiny however and the bathrooms aren't very nice with the plastic shelling.
All in all though a great hotel at a great location. The windows are amazingly sound proof so don't worry about noise from the street.

Nice small hotel just off the Rhine in Cologne. They made efficient use of a small space with well planned bathroom and furnishings. Only issue was it was near a noisy restaurant and to keep the unairconditioned space cool the windows needed to be open and hence lots of noise at night from the restaurant and early morning from trash collection.

Such a disappointment overall

This hotel was booked for its location to the train station and the Christmas Markets. Our decision was swayed by the price and the pictures of the hotel rooms looked great. It looked like you got a lot for your money
On arrival into Cologne, it only took 10 mins to walk with suitcases from the train station to the hotel, this was a great start for the holiday.
On arrival we were greated by a lovely lady behind a very small reception, which was fine as we were the only guests in reception, any more than 4 people in reception and you would be falling over each other. Language was not a problem because the reception lady spoke perfect English.
The room was nothing like the pictures. The pictures i have added are from room 308. This is along a dark corridor that has the smell of stale fried food to it. The room was dark and very small and looked like it belonged in the 80s. I later found out this room had not yet been upgraded, and upgraded rooms were being called deluxe rooms so the hotel could charge more for them. This was told to me by another member of reception. The television in the room did not work, and was reported immediately on arrival, 24 hours later when i told the hotel i wanted a room change, the television was fixed within the hour. Amazing really.
There are no tea and coffee facilities in the room, this is disappointing.
The bathroom was incredibly small.
There was also no evidence of a smoke detector within the room, not sure how this is legal in Europe

Convenient located reasonably priced hotel

While the outside of the hotel has no curbside appeal, the room itself was pleasantly renovated. The manager at reception kindly helped us get a working fridge into our room, as ours wasn't working. They didn't have cups in the room except for beer glasses but gladly provided one from the dining room. Our room was surprisingly spacious although I suspect not all rooms were similarly sized.

Lovely hotel. Enjoyed my stay which was tuesday-sunday. I would have given it full marks if not for Friday and Saturday night. The hotel is next door to 2 bars/clubs which were open until around 2am. Which is fine but even though I was on the 3rd floor. I felt as if I was in the club. The other nights they wern't open
The location is perfect. Next to the Rhiene. Less than a minute to st martins and the main cathedral. Pretty much in old market too so it's dead centre to everything.
I didn't have the breakfast so I couldn't tell you about that

Perfect location close to the Cathedral and perfect for the local bars. Close to the river. Hotel staff were excellent and very friendly and helpful. Beds were comfortable and the room was clean.
Would recommend this to friends and would certainly staff here again if I was to visit Cologne.
If you want to be right in the centre of everything this is the perfect location. Close to the shops and beer house just round the corner.

We stayed at this hotel from 11-18 April. Staff are really friendly, helpful and attended to all our needs. One even went the extra mile of finding us a box so we could check in our stuff at the airport. Location is excellent. Close proximity to many attractions and shopping. Mins away from central train station. Would definitely stay there if I come to Cologne again!

Having read a number of reviews regarding the Hotel, and with the experience of not always getting what you pay for, we were pleasantly surprised as to what we got.
Hotel was in a fantastic location, simply turn left out of the front door and make a choice numerous restaurants and bars. Turn right when you leave a Cologne's incredible shopping area appears before you.
The staff were friendly, helpful and always smiling. The rooms were large, both with comfortable beds and a sofa to relax on whilst watching TV (if you have time to). Didn't use the hotels' restaurant so wouldnt be able to comment.
All in all a wonderful weekend away and in no small part, helped by the 'An der Philharmonie'
One small point to note: No parking available so you going to pay 18 euros for each day. Oh, but the car park is a 20 meter walk from the front door.

A small and well priced hotel situated in the old town, convenient for the many bars and restaurants, The main railway station and also the Koln Messe exhibition Centre which I was visiting on business
Just a hundred metres back from the river, which it self is a very Pleasant walking experience.
All of the hotel staff seemed very helpful and informative
I would certainly stay at the Philarmonie again and recommend it to friends and associates

5-Stars All the Way!

Don't pass up the Hotel an Der Philharmonie! Location was fantastic -- right on the river and just blocks away from the Cathedral and shopping district. The room was exquisite -- modern, clean, stocked and comfortable; plenty of space for entertaining, windows for lots of natural light, and a large bathroom with a luxurious shower. There are some really nice people working the concierge desk; very accommodating and easy to talk to -- wake up calls, late checkout, luggage storage, etc. I am so happy I stayed here. I didn't take advantage of the breakfast spread but it looked amazing -- definitely worth the money.... This is the place I will return to every stay in Koln.

This hotel is very close to the Philharmonie, the Cathedral and in 5-minute distance to the central station (Köln Hbf). The room is very small but practical, the Internet was free and worked well. Breakfast was good. I was overall pleasantly surprised and can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.

Scam of wheelchair accessible room

There is no wheelchair accessible room here. I called the hotel to check if there were any accessible rooms and i was convinced that there was. But when we arrive, we were in shock. Even my wheelchair would not fit in the elevator. So what did i do? Since i had paid and could not get my money back, i am staying in the hotel and writing about this awful scam.

Upon our arrival (we arrived late due to flight delays) we were \"greeted\" by one the most unfriendly, rude, arrogant people I've even encountered at a hotel. Basically after cutting me off multiple times, raising his voice, and not providing us with anything but a key, I had enough. Now, I did speak with multiple staff that was on the rest of our stay. They were all incredibly apologetic and very friendly. This was one isolated \"man\", but his comments to me, my friends, and other customers that were waiting is completely unacceptable.

Water pressure and good hair dryer is two things that I care when I stay at the hotel beside service and cleanness of the hotel. This hotel has very nice water pressure which allows you to take a nice shower and the hair dryer is nice too.
Don't be fool by the old look of the hotel front door, the room is re-furnished, new and clean. I enjoyed it very much!

Great location in the centre, near to the railway station, cathedral, etc. If you're going out on the town then it's ideal, but if you want to sleep then it's not great as it's nextdoor to a nightclub/bar and you can hear the beats until they close. I stayed on a Friday night, so maybe it's just weekends...

Great location and good value-for-money

The location of this hotel is amazing. Just a few minutes walking distance from the Cologne Cathedral, the city's main attraction, the Rhine River and an old castle-like building, it offers many places to explore in its vicinity. Further, as it is less than a 10-minute walk from the main railway station and the Heumart metro station, it is well connected. And linked to the name, it is across the lane from the Philharmonic hall. Also in the locality, along pedestrian-only squares and walkways, are numerous dining outlets offering a wide range of cuisines. With regard to the hotel, it offers the comfort and facilities of a conventional hotel in a European city, within a compact and efficient design. My room even had a long sofa. While it did not have a fridge, the staff, who were helpful and accommodative of my various requests, stored my beverages in the kitchen fridge. I opted for the breakfast which was a regular Continental breakfast with a few hot food options. As the hotel is located slightly away from the squares with the large pedestrian footfalls, it is less affected by ambient noise. Overall, for its location, facilities and service, the hotel provides good value for money.

Very nice European hotel.

A small, centrally located hotel that deserves its 4 star rating. Near the Ludwig and the Roman museums and close to the train station. Be advised that to get there from the train station you have to walk up and down lots of steps of the DOM cathedral plaza which is in between the two. Good exercise though. Hotel has only a small lobby area with a few seats. No ice machine or store to buy things. Staff was very nice and genuinely pleasant and attentive.

Room was larger than most, with a nice sitting area with table and nicely appointed with art work. Bed is a foam mattress which for me was a bit soft and a small challenge to get out of. Bathroom was modern with a step up tub/shower and great water pressure. Good WIFi access in the room and lobby.

The area was generally quiet the week I was there except for Friday and Saturday nights when the bars flanking the hotel were crowded and the music was very loud.

Breakfast was just an additional €9.50/day and for me well worth the price. Nice assortment of bread, crispy rolls, eggs, sausage, sliced meats and cheeses, fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt and coffee, tea and juices.

All and all very enjoyable even with the loud noise on Friday and Saturday night.

Stay here if you can. Much cheaper than any other hotel and it is literally about a 2 minute walk to the cathedral and all the shopping areas around. Our view was of the cathedral. Room is very standard, but we got a suite that had an additional bed and tv for relaxation (still cheaper than any other room in Cologne). Shopping, restaurants, night life, cathedral is all right there. There is an elevator in the hotel. Everything was very clean. We were surprised with complimentary champagne our first night. The staff was so friendly, even mailing our postcards. Warning- parking is not free but pay for their parking, no where else to park but in their garage. It's completely safe and worth the daily cost. We enjoyed staying in the fabulous city of Cologne and this hotel made it more affordable.

Convenient hotel in a quiet street near Cathedral

I was pleased with this hotel, having booked a little late, and all the alternatives where my colleagues were staying were full or double/treble the usual price. Coincidentally, it turned out there was a Champions' League Football match on. This hotel was much more reasonably priced, but still excellent. Clean, smart, very spacious room, though the corridor perhaps could have done with redecoration. I didn't try the breakfast, but the price seemed very fair. If you are on business, remember you don't have to pay the Koln 'leisure' tax.

Last Minute Stay at Cologne

We had a great stay considering the circumstances. We were traveling to Cologne to see family, but at the last minute we were not able to stay with them. So we booked a room via Hotels.com at Hotel An der Philharmonie, but apparently the room was simultaneously booked twice, and when we arrived to the hotel, there was no single room available that could accommodate our family. Luckily the owner, Mrs. K was actually managing the front desk due to an employee being ill, and she gave us 2 rooms for the price of 1 room in a little used suite used for groups. She was very nice and even gave chocolate bars to the kids in the morning. Although the hotel is not in the best part of town, it is very close to the Dom and Hauptbahnhof. The rooms are dated, but it is a very comfortable hotel.

Perfect Location! Great Service!

I was in Cologne for 5 days. This hotel was in the perfect location. It was right off the main square, a few blocks from the roman and art museums, and only a few blocks from the cathedral. The staff were very pleasant and the rooms were clean! I even had an issue with a leak in the bathroom and they fixed it right away! Great service and I would stay here again.

Great location for exploring Cologne

Perfect location for tourists! Just a few blocks from everything, including the amazing Cologne Cathedral. Above an underground parking garage with cheap rates, adjacent to bars and restaurants (plenty more options within a few blocks). The perfect location for exploring Cologne at a reasonable price. The staff spoke English but could've been a little friendlier. Lastly, I stayed on a Saturday night and my room faced the \"noisy\" nightclubs I read about... I barely heard a thing and slept great.

Great location!

The bed was only had a comforter, no sheets, and it was two beds pushed together. The room size was decent and the staff were all very nice and helpful.
