Great location with some updates

The hotel is in a great location for the Christmas markets. It's above a restaurant, which is where breakfast is served. Our room has a magnificent view of the market, and it had an updated bathroom. The bed and linens were comfortable and pristine. The hotel overall feels a little dated, but part of that is the sparse decoration. I needed ice for a cooler which the restaurant downstairs kindly provided. I tried to order a beer to bring back to the room from the restaurant, but that wasn't an option.

Basic, no frills, good location

Very basic hotel. No amenities in room. Bathroom was nice, but no extra blanket or pillows. Entrance is strange - through the outdoor restaurant seating. Door is locked until a waiter sees you and lets you in, until after you get your key. Then you’re at a self-service check-in. It works, but it’s very impersonal. Room was clean but hallways and stairs were dirty.

Too noisy!!! No soundproofing!!!

We were booked in a room directly over the restaurant and facing the xmas markets.

We found the room very noisy on entry and the noise went on till gone 1am. The noise then restarted about 3am when the cleaners came.

We were unable to change rooms till the last night of our stay when we were given a quiet room facing another direction.

The reception had no sympathy at all and we was greeted with 'what do you expect with a christmas market'

I would expect better soundproofing of a room to ensure a peaceful stay. I wouldnt expect silence but certainly not a room that sounds like a nightclub!

A complaint will be written to the hotel and i would definitely not stay here again.

I really wanted to avoid writing this review based on the lovely experience with the staff at the hotel. It was affordable and last minute for a big family. The rooms need a deep clean. The bathroom I had flooded. There were mosquitoes in the room and I woke up with bites on my face. The person doing check out was super nice and they also had their beautiful dog, who was also very friendly.

Good hotel for a brief stay. The hotel itself in on 2-4ths floors of the building; the first floor is a very busy restaurant...
Great things:
- they let me check in early
- despite having the restaurant of the first floor, the rooms are quiet...
Areas for improvement:
- no air conditioning/thermostate in the rooms; I needed to keep the windows open to lower the room temp
- stair case is carpeted, but the carpet in dirty
- the access card to the building does not work at night; i and another customer had to bang on the door and the windows for at least 10 min before someone came to open the door. The reception is not staffed at night...
- shower is a sad story... They use 40 cm glass panel to shied the water, which still pours on the floor in the common bathroom area... So, I literally had to mop the floors every single time I would use the shower... Please make it more practical...
- no safeboxes in the rooms for any valuables... They claimed that the the hotel is safe, but with the restaurant guests going back and worths, I feel in needed the safe...

Check-in kiosk was took many steps to use, and it did not end up working. Going upstairs to reception there was no one there. Tried calling and someone hung up on me. Waited about 20 minutes for someone to come and check me in- told I needed to use kiosk that didn't work. Once finally checked in, room was fine. Lots of noise from outside due to construction for Cologne pride and being on a main street. Again for check-out, had to use the kiosk, which said there was no record of my reservation. Was in a hurry so just left key in the box. Really need to fix the kiosk system and have someone available at the reception. Hotel room itself was fine and clean, with gummy bears on the pillow, which was a cute touch.

It is perfectly situated beside one of the markets which made it easy for us to take a break in our room, use the washroom and drop off packages. All was great except the noise.

The hotel is in a great location! Wonderful for sight-seeing, it was very clean, the restaurant was very busy! The only downfall was that there was no air conditioning, which made us keep the window open. Even this we could have lived with, as they provided a new fan. But the noise from outside: from sirens, to motorcycles, to an early-morning trash truck, they made it difficult to sleep. Everything was great except the noise. In a cooler time of year, these would not have been an issue.

It's in a wonderful little square, and close to the train and popular attractions. it was a little loud, and no AC as far as I saw so windows open means you're getting up when the area becomes crowded and loud, and staying up as late as the area is still crowded, which means midnight.

The best staff I’ve ever experienced

In all my travelling, this is the best customer service I’ve ever had at a hotel. All four members of staff (three at reception and one in the restaurant) went above and beyond to accommodate my request / just generally make my life easier. Wouldn't stay again

Its beyond imagination why a hotel has this kind of curtains in a room. The purpose of curtains is to block light which the management of this hotel seems not getting. The entire room is lit at 6am, no climate control so had to keep a window open which means you hear all the noise from outside (several restaurants outside).
Wouldn't stay here at all again.

We visited the hotel for one night our last night of a week in Germany visiting the Christmas markets. Our night was Thursday 5th December in room VI the bathroom was wonderful and very well appointed, the room itself was ok not brilliant. There were small issues with cleanliness of the room and the windows but nothing major.
The noise in the room from partying is audible from the room but did not stop me from a good nights rest in a comfortable bed. We ate at the hotels restaurant and this was where i felt let down a bit. The restaurant is big and it looked as though there were numerous office parties on that night and it was packed. Fortunately we only needed a table for two and there were plenty available. However we waited patiently to be sat at out table only to be shouted at by a lady member of staff from the other side of the main area which we could not hear or understand. We were shown to our table and we made ourselves comfortable and looked at the menu. Its a slightly difficult menu to read in the low light and the fact it was in the form of a newspaper.
We waited for quite a while before ordering our first drink and it was difficult to get the attention of staff who were catering for the parties. When our drinks did arrive they were wrong and had to go back.
We waited again for our meal and it arrived and was delicious. Then we waited for a long while without service but eventually ordered dessert but it did not arrive and we left without it which was a shame.

Time out of the rat race in Cologne

We came to look at museums and churches, to eat an agreeable meal or two, and to do some none too serious shopping. We came by train to find all of the places we were looking for in walking distance, people we met were friendly, and those we dealt with in our hotel extra friendly and helpful.

No question, right on the Heumarket square with lots of bars and restaurants and next door to the town hall square with easy walk to main train station. However, if you get a room overlooking the square you will experience the people noise at night especially at weekends when the noise will continue deep into the night/morning. Earplugs are recommended. The room was relatively comfortable with bedside tables and a desk, however, no kettle which would be a plus. The bathroom is modern and seems to have a heated floor. Wifi was workable but poor compared to what we usually find elsewhere. We paid $73.94 USD per night.

Terrific location and a great value as long as a convention doesn’t cause rates to soar. On a Monday night, I didn’t have any problems with noise outside. My room was perfect for a solo traveler and the bathroom was surprisingly nice. The breakfast buffet was on a par with most others at German hotels. I’d happily stay here again.

We arrived here after a tortuous journey. The reception staff were happy and helpful. They gave us a list of places to visit for a late night meal/drink.
The room was not too small and you could turn the heating up (Cologne was cold).
The adjoining restaurant had good food and beer.
I would have no problem with staying here again.

This hotel was located in a convenient place. The room was comfortable but very expensive and definitely not worth the 300 euros without breakfast which was an extra 25 euros. I presume it was so expensive because We arrived on a Monday .
We went to the restaurant attached to the hotel for a meal but would advise anyone to check their bill!!
There was no internet as advertised

~Visited for the Christmas Markets - superb convenient location, directly in the Old Town Christmas Market - and minutes from the Cathedral Market, the Dom Cathedral and the Rhine. Free welcome drink and water, beautiful bathroom with underfloor heating and rainfall shower. Spacious warm room with comfy bed and a variety of lighting all helped to make this a very comfortable stay indeed.
We were on the first floor and were disturbed by noise outside - revellers, bin men collection etc.. however we had such an amazing close-up view of the market that we disregarded this.
Reception staff were warm, friendly, helpful, and super-accommodating - they couldn't do enough for us. Should we return to Cologne we would love to stay here again.

I stay in a number of \"budget\" hotels and this one is probably the best one ever. This hotel is top-of-the line. The beds were firm, bathrooms new and well designed, luxurious linens. Everything needed was there, even a bottle of sparkling water. The location was great, close to sites and restaurants. For some the room may be small, but for me, it was plenty. The TV even had the BBC. It is an outstanding value and I will stay there whenever I return to Cologne.

Hidden charm of Koln

Great location, clean room, fast check in and check out. Very close to all the bars and restaurants and live music. The festivities on the sat night we were there went on until well past 4 am. We brought earplugs and this really helped! There was no air conditioner, but the windows are large and provide good breeze. It was a very hot day when we rowers there, so it was a bit miserable until I took a cool shower. The bathroom was very modern and suave. We would define stay again and recommend to anyone.

Nice hotel but noisy

We visited Cologne for the Christmas Markets. The hotel was in the perfect location right next to one of the markets. The staff were friendly and the hotel clean and well maintained. However, the floors were all tiled and all we could hear in our room was the scraping of chairs on the floor, which was constant. We believed it was coming from one of the other rooms but the receptionist thought it was probably coming from the restaurant, although this was two floors below. Either way, it made it impossible for us to relax in the room, so we were out until late and normally awake by 0730 when it started again. We therefore would not stay at this hotel again, which is a shame as it was a very nice place. I would strongly recommend that unless the hotel lays carpets in all rooms, they at least put felt pads on the bottom on all chairs and table legs, and any other moveable furniture.

Front desk staff super rude and unhelpful. Great location and obvious they fill up so they act like they don't really need you. Service is terrible and the hallways you walk to your room to feel like a spa. Sterile and not charming . Beds are comfortable but pillows are cheap because of filling.Never will stay there again.

I went to visit Photokina 2014 as I am busy with nature and wildlife photography. Arranged my hotel through Expedia. Everything worked well my reservation, hotel confirmation.
Stayed one night would recommend to all going there location is very close to Dom Catheral and in the center-Heumarkt. Rooms are very clean this was the reason why I had chosen this hotel and it has proven itself to me too.
Will stay again in case I am there..

Il manquait un lit, la douche était bouché, le lit pliant qu’on nous a amené était cassé, j’a failli prendre l’armoire pas fixée au mur sur la tête, les toilettes étaient salle, le cendrier sur le balcon pas vidé et le service désagréable.
Avec en plus un monsieur qui rentre tous les matins à 9h30 dans la chambre pour faire le ménage.

Das Hotel ist höchstens gut für eine Nacht. Veraltete Einrichtung in den Zimmern, keine Klimaanlage, kein Safe, Kleiderschrank ohne Türen, Moibilar veraltet und abgenutzt. Matratzen hart, kann man sich grad sogut auf den Boden legen. Zimmer wurde nicht gereinigt ,nur Bett zugedeckt, keine Laken gewechselt. Putzfrau respektierte das \"Bitte nicht stören Schild\" nicht, und stand auf einmal im Zimmer, obwohl die Tür abgeschlossen war! Personal an der Rezeption zimlich unfreundlich.
Ich werde nie mehr ein Zimmer da reservieren.

Das Zimmer liegt zentral und war bezahlbar, das war es leider auch schon. Die Unterkunft ist abgewohnt und lieblos eingerichtet. Sauber war es leider auch nicht. Als absolute Notlösung ok - es gibt ein Bett - aber nicht empfehlenswert.

Sehr zentral. Aber uns war nicht bewusst, dass auch unter der Woche Abends so ein Publikumsverkehr ist. Sehr lange ( 5.00 Uhr morgens ) ziemlich laut. Es war warm und man musste die Fenster auflassen. Und um 7.00 ging es mit Stadtreinigung und Baustellen los.
Sonst sehr sauber und das Personal sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.
