In dark as a woman alone it was very hard to find and not end up down a dark alley, Tax can't drop off in front; stops further back; must walk past shop and then it's the 2nd restaurant; not where map shows.
Room itself was nice, clean, warm, decent. Wifi is behind the door though which was ridiculous; couldn't find.
Elevator had a waiter come rushing through; restaurant looked maybe great but no indication from room what it might be like, menu, pricing, etc.

Honestly this place is a hidden gem, from the moment I check in, to check out there was nothing I could complain about.

You may wish to check layout of some rooms beforehand e.g. room I had inclided the shower as part of the main room so person showering fully visible to rest of the room (toilet was in a separate room though). Probably not a problem for couples but just in case you are booking a double room with family or friends etc.

Terrific hotel

The Hotel was in a fantastic location for seeing all of Cologne’s sights, easy to get to, park the car (safely), and was clean as a whistle, all supported by friendly staff. The only bugbear was that there was no AC in the room - i had to leave the windows open to mitigate the stifling heat, and that led to flying insects eating me alive!

Avoid this hotel if you want to sleep

What they don't tell you is that this hotel has its own function venue, taking up much of the ground, 1st and 2nd floors. The two nights we there, they hosted insanely loud parties until 2am - so loud our bed was literally vibrating! It was very challenging to sleep (despite the ear plugs they provide), there was little by way of apology the next morning except that \"they have a very busy December\".

The rooms themselves are okay, and the location is great - but next time we are in Cologne we will try a hotel that we can actually sleep in

Good room but corrupt staff.

Everything was OK up until it was time to check out. We had to check out very early in the morning -- 4:30 pm and I asked the front desk agent if he could call a taxi for us. That's when everything went bad.

A car pulls in that does not have any Taxi markings on it and it was a black Mercedes as opposed to the cream colored ones that drive all over the city. The front desk agent comes outside and, in front of my eyes, the driver hands him 5 EUR.

I asked how much the 15 minute trip to the airport would approximately cost and he said $50. Well, without traffic the driver rang up EUR $72.

Botom line: the night shift agent is corrupt and took advantage of guests who were time pressed to get to the airport. This was not an arms length transaction but an opportunity for him to take advantage of an opportunity at a referral fee.

The hotel itself was OK. The room had its unique quirks such as high vaulted ceilings and windows that opened out. There was no HVAC and the shower lacked any lighting.

The \"queen bed\" is actually two beds pushed together, so they posted misleading information on that. The room itself was clean and adequately maintained. I paid top dollar for a junior suite and I'll make sure to avoid this hotel on my next trip to Cologne all because a night shift employee decided to take advantage of me.

Very Nice room. Lots of wardrobe space for two people. Comfy bed. Great location, walking distance to everywhere we wanted to go and good public transport links. breakfast was okay but a little expensive for the quality compared to other local options. Staff were very nice. Happy with the price of the stay. Only issue was the drain in the sink emitted a bad smell throughout the stay but I’m not sure if that was the hotels specific issue or an issue in the area. Would stay again :)

The staff was friendly and helpful and the location was perfect. It was a very short Uber ride from the train station (we could've walked it without baggage, but we had a lot of stuff) and easily walkable to many shopping and dining options in the Haymarket and Old City areas as well as Dom Cathedral. We received 2 free beer tokens for the bar and we even discovered that there are some rooms that offer the option (when booked in advance) of a beer tap right in the room. The room was clean and comfortable and the headboard resembled the inside of a beer barrel. It was a unique and comfortable place to stay.

The room was nice but it was very loud outside and people smoking outside the restaurant - the smoke drifted up. It was spring so I wanted the window open for air but the noise & smoke made it unpleasant. I was on the 3rd floor so if you stay there ask for the top floor.

My room was quite nice - much more spacious than most of what I have experienced in Europe, and everything in the room and bathroom was high-end. The hotel is attached to a good local brewery/restaurant and just on the edge of the old town. It takes about 10-15 minutes to walk to the central train station, but going through the old town, it's a pleasant stroll.

Stayed for Anuga in October. This is the best accommodation among another aparthotel and another hotel near the church all I stayed during the fair. Love the view from room, the heaters that were functional, and the clean, lovable interior. Nothing was out of order. Great restaurant downstairs, great breakfast for only 12€, I can’t complain. Oh and excellent location to go messe. Super.

The location was wonderful although there is no parking lot attached to the building and it cost 16.00 Euros a night at the garage they contract with around the corner. Entry to hotel and check in desk are very modest and the 1 lift is very slow. The room was adorable and clean and the value in terms of room and location to the old town can't be beat!! We were very happy with our stay.

Overall, a solid hotel. There service seems friendly, the bed is comfy, and the room had ample space. Wifi is solid as well and you get tokens for a kolsch/non-boozy drink. It's just a short walk to the Heumarkt tram stop, but somewhat of a far walk from some of the restaurants we enjoyed near Friesenplatz.

That said, we didn't have any hot water one of the evenings we were there and the toilet paper is easily the worst I've had the misfortune of using. The tap water also smelled vaguely sulfuric, but not enough to cause concern.

We'd still probably stay there again if we planned on using public transit more.

Stayed at Hotel zur Malzmühle for a week, where we noticed following things.

Positives:
- Free beer tokens
- View of the Kölner Dom
- Great staff
- Good working WiFi/W-Lan
- Close enough to amenities such as the Kölner Dom, Kölner Messe and the city centre either by walking (everything within 30 min walking distance) or public transport (Heumarkt station is 2 min. walking distance)

Negatives:
- Parking quite expensive at €16/day
- Privacy sticker in toilet was not covering entire glass to bathroom
- Tap was very close to sink, causing a lot of water spillage on the side
- Tap water is chlorinated and not drinkable, water bottle offered but at €4 for 1 litre this is too much
- No kettle (probably because of the chlorinated water)

Brand new hotel in the middle of old town Cologne. Extremely welcoming and professional reception by Michael. Hotel staff speaks great English and Michael gave us great recommendations of things to do and see in the city and even helped us with our German. The furniture and fixtures were very high quality. we had a great time in Cologne and glad we picked hotel Malzmuhle.

Incredible location business travellers

Incredible location for anyone doing business at the Koln-Messe! Just two quick stops to the fairgrounds. Excellent also for walking to the Dom, great shopping at Neumarkt, and central location to anything Cologne. Hotel clerks were most helpful to find specific shops (was looking for a bulk Tea shoppe), ordering a taxi, or when requesting assistance of any kind. Highly recommend it and will definitely be back upon future visits to Koln.

Unfortunately the bar was closed and we were not informed in advance. Dinner at the brewery restaurant was not of very good quality. While the place was getting very busy with larger groups later on the Monday (!) evening, the quality of food was below par and service left to be desired in attentiveness but especially friendliness. Would not visit the restaurant again, too many other great options around town. The hotel itself is in a brilliant location to venture into town. Recommend to reserve parking with the hotel in advance for Euro 16 per day which is about a 5-8min walk away so drop of any luggage first.

Best room in the hotel - great bed, quality linens, spacious bathroom. Complimentary bowl of fruit. I was booked in on the first night of the carnival season and the location meant a lot of noisy revellers outside but windows kept all the noise out. Nice view to city and cathedral. Stay included token for beer from brewery below - bonus beer always welcome!

All staff were SOOO very helpful and friendly!
The room was fresh and new, very cleverly decorated, to effect the Brewery theme: headboard suggested barrel staves, glass divider was etched with hops motif, carpet had a subtle wood grain contour integrated. Delighted to be given a growler of the Malzmuhle Kolsch upon check in. The only reason I didn't give comfort a 5, is that the shower stall situation was a little weird : totally glass, and located right in full view of anyone in the room. Only appropriate for a couple, and even then a bit much. Parking garage was really hard to find, and instructions for walking out of it, once we did park the car, we're not immediately clear, and only in German, which I'm pretty good at. I would suggest including simple B&W photos of what the parking garage entry looks like, and what the human exit area looks like, along with the street diagram and instructions. But we just chalked it up to a little adventure. Breakfast was great, attendant very helpful.

Fantastic hotel right by the Heumarkt u-bahn station.

POSITIVES:
- Modern, new and very clean
- Great powerful shower
- Friendly staff
- Free siphon of home-made beer for all rooms!
- Excellent location
- Very comfortable bed
- Safe, hairdryer, kettle

NEGATIVES:
- Shower is not in a separate room, it's 'open plan' and glass. Fine if you're a couple but bear in mind if you're friends as you can see everything!
- No lobby area to relax

Overall, I would highly rate this hotel for a city break. It doesn't have spa facilities or a large lobby etc, but for 2 or 3 nights, you don't need that.
It's very clean, modern and comfortable - and a real plus that they have an on-site brewery (restaurant / bar is next door).

Beim auschecken habe ich die Parkplatz und Touristik Abgabe bezahlt. Zuhause angekommen habe ich gesehen dass meine MasterCard mit den Zimmerpreis zusätzlich belastet wurde obwohl ich im voraus dieses bei Expedia schon bezahlt habe. In einem Anruf zum Hotel würde mir erklärt dass der Mitarbeiter an Rezeption ein Fehler gemacht hatte und die Zahlung rückgängig gemacht wird. Leider ist das bis heute nicht geschehen.

Um ótimo hotel para três estrelas. Localização ótima, mas com taxa de café da manha um pouco alta. Para quem vai de carro, vai ter que pagar um valor alto de estacionamento, pois são poucas vagas na rua para estacionar. Para cadeirantes, é ótimo o quarto adaptado. E o melhor é que o restaurante é ao lado com ótimas opções de comida e uma cerveja muito boa!

Alles in allem bietet das Hotel einen angenehmen Komfort. Der Service und die Freundlichkeit sind sehr gut. Bis auf den staubigen Heizkörper im Bad stimmt auch die Sauberkeit. Schön ist es, dass man mit dem Aufzug quasi ins Bauhaus oder in die Kneipe fahren kann. Außerdem besticht die zentrale Lage, die Rheinnähe und eine gute Bahnanbindung. Gewöhnungsbedürftig ist vielleicht die eingeschränkte Intimsphäre durch die offene Bandstruktur.

Erinomainen hotelli kävelymatkan päässä kaikesta. Huone oli erittäin siisti ja viihtyisä, sänky myös mukava. Vaikka 1. kerroksen juhlatilossa oli juhlat, niiden äänet eivät kuuluneet 2. kerroksen huoneeseen lainkaan. Maukas ja runsas aamiainen. Kävellen pääsi kaikkialle mutta bussi- ja raitiovaunupysäkit olivat pari minuutin päässä hotellin ovelta.

Das Hotel ist einfach perfekt. Es direkt am Heumarkt gelegen, Straßenbahn und Bus fahren fast vor der Tür. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend und die Zimmer waren sehr schön eingerichtet. Trotz der zentralen Lage sind die Zimmer sehr leise. Es ist ein kleines Hotel mit familiärem Charme. Ich fühlte mich sehr willkommen und kann dieses Hotel sehr weiterempfehlen.

Schönes Hotel. Zimmer war sauber und praktisch eingerichtet.
Tolle zentrale Lage.
Das Zimmer ging nach hinten.
Das Hotelpersonal war sehr freundlich.
Frühstück war ausreichend, aber für die gebotene Auswahl zu teuer.

Die Zimmer zum Innenhof können bei geöffnetem Fenster den Duft aus der Küche hereinlassen. Unser erstes Zimmer wurde schnell und anstandslos getauscht. Guter Service!
Das Frühstück war für den Preis sehr gut.
