Nice hotel

This hotel is very well situated in Barcelona. It's near the university and Placa de Catalunya. It's easy to get around the on the metro (Universitat station).
The room I rented was for 4 people. It was located on floor 1 1/2. This means we had to walk up the stairs to bring our luggage as the elevator only stopped on the full floors. Our room had a private room with a queen bed. There was also a queen bed in the loft area. The private room was located facing the street. The hotel is right beside a pub. Because we were staying on a Saturday night, the noise from the pub was loud. However, due to walking around Barcelona all day, it didn't bother us as we were too tired to hear it.
I would stay here again. The staff were very pleasant and friendly and the room was comfortable.

Was not part of the F1 crowd but just happened to be the weekend. Rowdy little bar outside, dumpsters lined the front street. Hotel staff very good and friendly. Room was small for the price I’m sure it would be cheaper if the event was not on. I will look for a better location next time in town.

The staff was extremely friendly and breakfast was a perfect start of the day.

The Meson Castilla is a beautiful hotel with helpful staff. I travelled here with my mum and son for a birthday, staying in a triple room. The room was adequate for a short stay and very quiet. The hotel ideally located by a metro station, the gothic quarter and La Rambla. Breakfast was held in a beautiful dining room and very well catered for with excellent choice. The outside terrace looks a lovely area to sit in nice weather, unfortunately we had rain. The hotel has luggage storage which was convenient as our flight home wasn’t until late so we were grateful to leave our bags there after checkout. I look forward to staying here again on a return trip to Barcelona.

Room was quiet, large and comfortable. My stay happened to overlap my birthday. I had been out for the day and when I returned to my room, there was a bunch of balloons, a cupcake, and a card for me on the desk. What a wonderful surprise!! We were very disappointed in this room and with the breakfasts. There weren’t any amenities at this hotel such as a place to get a beverage. I was very surprised at how small the room was, and that there were no windows whatsoever! This is not what I expected when I booked the room. If you are claustrophobic, be careful when booking your room. The staff was friendly enough but didn’t go out of their way to see if you needed anything. Best thing I can say is that the location is great and only about a 3 block walk to Las Ramblas.

This property was a shocking departure from the images posted on their expedia profile. The hotel is dingy and the area it resides in is both dirty and did not feel safe. In fact the hotel had to buzz the doors open to let us in when we arrived. The interior is dimly lit and run down. The room we booked for over $500 was hardly bigger than a closet and did not resemble the images online. The hotel and room were completely unacceptable, so much so that my wife and I couldn't even tolerate staying one night.
Because we booked through expedia we were not able to get a refund of any sort. Expedia has no recourse and no way to talk to a real person about our terrible experience. I am very frustrated and also out $500. I will avidly avoid using expedia in the future and this hotel in particular should be avoided like the plague.
The ONLY redeeming aspect of this hotel was the patient front desk staff who was able to call a sister hotel and find us a room there for another $500.

We were at the property 5 nights. We had to change rooms as the first night's room was really small. Paid a bit more on site and got a really nice room. But on check in our room was not ready and we could not settle in until about 4:00 P.M. and they were slow to make up rooms on the subsequent days. We simply had to remind the front desk to look after our room and they were very accommodating. Breakfast was top notch. We recommend paying the extra amount (euros 12) for that. The hotel is in a most interesting part of the city. We would stay there again.

The room was a shoe box. It did not look AT ALL like the pictures. The window is small and the blinds did not work at all. The concierge was rude until he calmed down a little bit. On the right side, for the very few moments I was in the room before leaving I learned a lot about the sex life of the passengers next door. Good to know people still love each other.

Worst hotel ever stayed. Hotel front desk guy was quite rude he almost refused us checking in saying that the hotel is full although I booked a room online and it turned out it was his mistake.

Even after we checked in, the room key didn’t work in the first place so we had to ask the guy to open the key.
Plus, the air conditioner was super old and it was too loud that I couldn’t sleep well.

Excellent location. Took the A1 bus from terminal 1 to Universitat stop, where there is also a metro stop. Four minutes walking from there. its 10 minutes from Plaza Catalonya (where I took the bus back to the airport), and 5 minutes to Rambla. Hotel is very clean, good bedding and towels. Yes, the beds in Europe are harder then in the US. Get use to it.
As a solo traveler I always get very small rooms all over Europe. That's how it works and I expect it.
Good breakfast. They try to prepare the eggs in a different way every day, which is appreciated. Good, large and quiet sitting area in breakfast floor. Excellent WIFI in rooms and common areas.
Nice size bath with very good water pressure and plenty of hot water. A/C in room worked beautifully.
Front desk personnel very pleasant. They do have room card keys so you won't have to leave your key every time you leave the hotel.
Had a very nice experience and highly recommend it.

Best location hotel

We, 2 friends, had a pleasent stay in the hotel. Best things about hotel are: perfect location, walking distance from many centered points, super clean, comfort beds and nice linens, stable wi-fi, great breakfast and of course best personnel, especially Manuel is a great guy! We were really happy with the choise of the hotel and our stay in Barcelona was enjoyable! I’m recommending it!!!

I like it.

Nice hotel in the heart of Barcelona

We recently stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. It was very clean, bathroom was great. Air conditioning was excellent. Breakfast each day was varied. Hotel staff also very nice and helpful. A 5 minute walk to La Rambla.

Our booking was last minute trip and our room at Level 6 doesn't have lift access. We need to carry our luggage via stairs. The room is clean and cosy. Please note that there is no SAFE in the room. Breakfast is simple but good.

Comfortable Barcelona Hotel

I was traveling with my 18yo granddaughter on her first trip to Spain. The staff at the hotel was wonderful, very gracious and helpful. The room was clean and spacious and had a small terrace. My only recommendations would be for a make-up mirror in the bathroom and a safe for money & valuables. The hotel is well situated near shopping, restaurants, and not far from Plaza Catalunya for public transportation.

Good value hotel for very central position

We had 3 nights stay, basic hotel but comfortable, able to walk everywhere, central position. Caught airport bus to Place de Catalunya, from where it was a short walk to the hotel. 2nd time at this hotel, would come again.

Great hotel

Hotel was well located, only 3 blocks from Las Ramblas. Lots of restaurants and bars just around this hotel.

Personnel was nice and helpful; hotel seems it has been renovated recently because you can smell the fresh paint!

Beds were comfortable and soft, breakfast was good too

So I really enjoyed this hotel.

Meson Castilla Atiram is a beautiful hotel with character. The first floor, where we were lucky to be placed, has many wall paintings and arches. The breakfast room is richly decorated. Stored luggage is carefully placed in a locked room. (By contrast, our friend had his backpack stolen from the open lobby of another Barcelona hotel.) I was delighted to see this hotel on a list of \"10 best historic hotels\" in the DK Barcelona book. We would return to this hotel.

Great Hotel just off the downtown neighborhood

The hotel was clean and quiet, and the common areas were recently updated. Our room was slightly dated but very good, as well as clean. We would good back.

Located just blocks away from Barcelona gothic quarter, but not in it. Very easy to get to Metro and Airport buses. The El Raval is a quiet and safe neighborhood next to a University. Several major museums. Lots of good restaurants. Less touristy.

We caught the Aerobus in to plaza Catalunya then only a 5 min walk to the hotel. The hotel was lovely. The breakfast room was a great surprise and breakfast more than adequate. We recommend this hotel.

Centric yet secluded.

The staff was top notch. The split a/c was nice and cooled well. The breakfast setup was nice and beyond American continental or European coffee and bread. There is a computer in the lobby that is fast and linked to print. The staff gladly assists from calling you a cab, to ironing and laundry for a fee (worth while), safe, security cameras, and nice bathroom. Linens were crisp and supplied fresh daily. We stayed in the 5th floor and requested and paid for a king size bed. Excellent value.

We checked in had ants all in our bathroom we let them attended to then. We left to go to the town... Came back ok. Then we had a nap . Woke up the ants were back & next day in am very early we had breakfast spoke to front desk we had decided to leave hotel no reason to stay. They weren't getting rid of ants . So we told them we wanted to leave early we won't give bad review just let us leave. Refund that night . No they said so we are going to tell everyone we know & give a horrible review because they wouldn't refund our night... So we left & went on to Perpignan .The room was ok . The location was not. Nothing to do or go anywhere . Far from town Foid at hotel was unettable. How else could u put it..

Best place to stay in Barcelona

This is a good hotel to stay at as it is centrally located. It is easy walking distance to the main road Rambla that will take you to the main attractions including the waterfront. The hotel staff are very friendly and very helpful. It was a bonus that they spoke some English as well We had to extend our stay at the hotel and the staff were very receptive to our needs. The breakfast and dinning area were great.
I would certainly stay there again and would recommend the hotel to friends and family.
