We upgraded when we arrived, was given a massive room with sea view which was amazing.
Air con works perfectly.

Basic hotel with basic equipment but perfect for a cheaper hotel or a short week stay.

Would stay again.
Breakfast was nothing to write home about but value for what we paid.

Great location but needs an upgrade. Bedding was clean but bathroom needed a deep clean - was superficially clean but mould around shower.
It’s an old building and smells damp but I suspect that is the same of many on that stretch of road.
We spent very little time in the hotel so would use it again as it is such a good price

The hotel is perfectly situated for access to all areas of the island via public transport which is cheap and reliable.
The hotel itself is rather tired and the breakfast is quite basic, quite disappointed that no tea/ coffee making facilities in the room. The hot food at breakfast was at best luke warm, although there was quite a good choice of other food.
The shower was fantastic, plenty of hot and fast flowing water.

The room was compact and the shower was even smaller. We we’ll not stay there again because even after we pay top price for a room when we requested to change rooms they almost made us pay more. I would not recommend this EUROPA HOTEL .

Ideal seafront location

The Europa Hotel is in an excellent location on Sliema seafront and has a convenient drop off lane outside away from the busy main road. Popular beaches are a short walk away, as are some shops including chain stores. There are many atmospheric bars and restaurants on the promenade.
The hotel staff are very welcoming and mostly very pleasant, this includes those on reception,in the restaurant and cleaning staff. The rooms and bathrooms are very spacious, the showers are excellent and free toiletries are provided. Breakfast too is very good with standard hot and cold offerings. Only thing missing for me is an inroom safe.

Amazing staff, wonderful stay

There is much to like about Europa Hotel, but hands down the absolute best part is the staff. They are accommodating, helpful, and will do whatever they can to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as they can. Michael, in particular, is the best, and we feel indebted to him for all his assistance. He is also friendly and funny.

The rooms are clean, comfortable, and big (high ceilings, too). Excellent location, as it is in front of the beach and right in between two bus stops covering many bus routes, including the X2 for the airport. Many restaurants in the area. We had planned to go to Gozo for a few nights in between stays in Europa Hotel, and decided to extend our stay here and go to Gozo for fewer nights. We were also able to leave some luggage behind until we came back, and it was accommodated in the best way. Great value and you definitely get more than expected for the price -- some negative reviews seem to want amenities more fit for four/five star hotels. Would happily stay here again if we return to Malta. Highly recommended. Thank you for everything!!!

Great staff, great value

The staff was great, and very helpful. The view from the balcony was amazing for sunsets. Although the hotel is a bit older, it's in good shape, and it's a great value. We extended our stay and then returned after a couple of days in another city. Very convenient for buses and the old town area.

Overall a decent value for price.

Room was clean and bed comfortable. Shower normal European size, which is to say small. Hot water was quick and plentiful. Had a harder time and a bit of a wait to get cold water. Location was quiet and an easy 30 minute bus ride to Valleta and decent connections to airport and places like Rabat/Mdina. Buses ran every 7-10 mins to Valetta and stop is a short walk from hotel. My room had a balcony that just looked on the inside of hotel walls which was not worth looking at or stepping out onto. Staff was friendly. Didn’t pay to have the breakfast, so have no opinion about it.

Very good, clean and nice stay for people who likes to spend the whole day out and just come back to sleep. My room had a regular size, and I was very surprised with the balcony area (which was not included in the description). The breakfast is ok, nothing extraordinary, but tasty. The people who works in the hotel are very friendly and helpful, so I highly recommended to young people (solo, couple or friends), who wants a comfortable place to sleep and don't care too much about luxury or big sized rooms.

We had a sea view which made up for any “bad” aspects of the hotel. The sea view was beautiful and would recommend that room to everyone. The hotel was also situated in a good area with lots of things to do and see. However, the breakfast was not good. Very basic so would not recommend that. Also our balcony door kept breaking which wasn’t great. But other than that, I really enjoyed my time at the hotel.

Fantastic location, great value for money, had Seaview room which was fabulous. No hesitation in staying there again. Very clean. Breakfast was good, the usual European breakfast foods and an abundance of Maltese bread which was nice. My only comment I must make is that the breakfast staff should greet you with a smile and stop resting on the counter where you have to maneuver around them to access the cutlery and plates.

Our Malta break in Sliema

Great location on the shore in Sliema. Bus stop only 150 yeard, Rooms clean and tidy with a reasonable selection of hot and cold food at Breakfast. Well worth choosing a room with a sea view.
Stayed four days and found it quite comfortable, staff helpful and friendly. An excellent restaurant within 100 yards on the promenade. Good value for a few nights stay in a 2 star hotel in a very pleasant area of Malta.

I stayed here during the freak storm, but all the staff were so helpful and accomodating, despite having to remain behind the reception desk whilst the doors got blown off the front of the building.
So a bit more in depth....
The coin operated coffee machine broke, so the staff were giving out free hot drinks for the first day, but had stopped by the second day. This seemed a shame, because the second day is when the storm and 100km/h winds hit, so getting out anywhere else for a coffee was practically impossible too.
The rooms were a good size, housekeeping was available daily, no complaints at all.
It's a budget hotel, but this means no frills. It's still a good hotel regardless of price.

It’s not the Hilton, but I found it clean, comfortable and simple. Which is exactly what I wanted. Location wise it wasn’t pretty perfect for me was close by the town center and a few bus stops which would probably be how you’d get around. Also lot of good food places which range from expensive to affordable.

It's a sham; they cheat you at any point they can

Please be wary of the staff and of absolutely any services this hotel offers. The staff delivers to just the price of the stay. I was leaving today and realised that it being 25th December, the buses won't be working. Their reception staff, an old man, got me a seat in a shuttle which originally cost 5 euros but he asked me to pay 22 euros!! The hotel would keep 17 Euros commission for themselves!!! I realised this only after sitting in the shuttle and being told by the driver that everyone had paid 5 euros for the shuttle! What a sham! They also charged me the city tax twice because receptionists keep changing and the first forgot to make a record of my city tax payment! I'd recommend staying in a trustworthy hostel over this hotel.

We thought this hotel was excellent for value! I would have given it 5 stars but didn't want people to think it's a \"five star hotel\". It is not. BUT it was clean, the beds were comfortable, the AC worked well, fresh towels and excellent service at the front desk. The one thing we would have enjoyed in the room was a mini fridge. I would definitely return here given the cost and what we got for it!

I was checked into a very shabby looking room, with 3 beds but I was alone!. Room had not been cleaned in a long time as after I showered my feet were black coming out of the shower. I mentioned to the gentlemen at the desk to change my room and he said maybe on sunday and a remark was made that \"people expect a lot when paying so little\" I suppose he was referring to me, so I replied that I wasn't expecting a dirty room. The day after the lady at the desk gladly changed my room and one of the housekeeping staff stated that my first room had been vacant for a long time!!!

Nice outlook and close to buses, shops, transport, bars and restaurants. Shopping mall fairly close too. Some staff were helpful and always offered a greeting. One male staff member was more interested in wstching tv and didnt even make eye contact. I didn't realise until I got there that my room did not have aircon. Time in the room was therefore uncomfortable.

I was pleasantly surprised expecting a much more basic room for a 2 star rating. My room was large with a kingsize bed, had a separate area for dressing and a good sized en-suite bathroom (I had booked a standard double room). We even had air-con which I definitely was not expecting. OK the view wasn't great, it was basically the down pipes from the other rooms but to be honest I didn't need a room with a view as the view outside the hotel was lovely looking straight out at the sea. I did see other rooms smaller than mine though which were being prepared for the next guests (maybe I was just lucky) The rooms are fairly basic but it depends what type of holiday you want, we spent most of our days out and about seeing the sights so didn't need a room to relax in. The rooms were kept very clean. The hotel is also in a great location enabling you to walk to St Julian's along the promenade for an evening meal or into Selima to catch the ferry to Valletta or to find somewhere to eat. The staff were also very informative and helpful. I would certainly stay here again.

Poor hotel with bad REALLY service

This is one of the worst hotels I have stayed at.

When arriving, the fan is my first room did not work, They did get a new fan to the room, but they made it feel like it was my fault. When flushing the toilet the first time it was broken and poo spilled out on the floor.

When reporting it, they did give me a new room, not a single excuse, once again made me feel like I was the problem.

There where no towels in the new room, no hooks or towel hangers are in the room. The Internet is piss poor.

This s one of my worst experiences in a hotel

Only just okay but very basic hotel.

This is a two star hotel. The first room was awful as was the other two rooms they showed me. We blew the fuses by plugging in a kettle so the lamps TV and sockets didn’t work, our fault but even so. The head boards were all damaged as was one of the beds and our view was a brick wall. When I finally got to speak to the manager he moved us to a fabulous sea view room which had just been refurbished. If they had offered me this at check in I would happily have paid extra. On a plus side the breakfast was great as was the Manager and his very cool headed receptionist. Whit a little work this could so easily be a three star hotel.

Perfect location with a splendid view

we booked a smoking room and the e-mail we received off you stated it was a smoking room the hotel said it was not even though we showed them your e-mail so we had to pay a extra 5 euro a night then we had building work starting at 8-30 in the morning their plaster dust in the hallway and all over our shoes and room floor the electric went off without warning and the noise was unbearable this building work was in the room next door to us

Great budget hotel in stunning seafront location

We really like the Europa and it has become our hotel of choice in Sliema.
It has an efficient 24 hour Reception and stall are very welcoming and helpful.
We always book a seafront room for the size and views.
Rooms are spotlessly clean, beds very comfortable, free toiletries, nice towels and bedding.
Breakfast buffet is available and free WiFi in Reception/dining room.
This is a great base for business or for exploring the lovely Maltese islands.

The hotel has a good position in Sliema, very close to the US station, the center and by the sea.
Room condition are not really good.. Even if I can say it's cleaned (the inside of the hotel is a little bit old)
Breakfast is a large buffet, for this price a really good choice!

Very basic, rooms had adjoining doors which meant you could hear very clearly the conversations next door, even when the guests were not talking loudly! We had a 5am start to the airport!. Miserable, old out of date room with only window opening onto a ventilation shaft! Beds had NO MATRESS COVERS, noisy lumpy springs. Nice area.

The location is quite good and the room was clean. The main issues were the lack of water pressure and the temperature itself that we could only take a cold shower as the hot water was too hot and when opening both the water would come out burning plus that the room had no AC and the fan was to noisy for us to be able to sleep. Overall not a very good experience.

My experience at Europa hotel was ok, the position of the hotel is very good and you have neer some place's to eat or to see a football match(it was Champions League on :d). It's not an american breakfast but if you are a morning eating person is enough. The rooms need a little renovations, the wall's in our room were dirty.

2.5 Star Hotel with Convenient Beach Access

Europa Hotel was quite pricey for the quality of the room that was offered to us. It had an overhead fan with a comfortable bed and clean bathroom. Our room smelled like strong cleaning products upon our arrival but the staff offered us a better room. The staff were friendly, but the overall experience was plain. We loved how close we were to beach access and a beach club, though. I would say choosing the ocean view room is the only way to go to make it more worthwhile.

Europa hotel is a comfortable, 3 star hotel located right in front of the beach and in an area with lots of restaurants. The bus stop to Valette is right in front of the hotel (about 20 min ride). I also appreciated the possibility of purchasing tours (hop on-hop off/ excusions) directly in the hotel lobby. The lady selling the tours was very nice and provided useful info. The hotel is clean, has pleasant staff (except on the evening of our arrival, the night manager was not very pleasant). The breakfast buffet is well stocked and varied (fruits, yogurts, cakes, cheese, cold cuts, juices, etc...) The only negative: there was NO A/C in my room, only a dusty fan to cool the room...

Older hotel with poor renovations. Locks are easily opened if one wanted to. Cleanliness was ok. No mattress pads, sheets insufficient to cover beds. Staff at check in were good, and actually helped check us in early due to illness. Other staff were rude and not helpful.

It should be grade as 2* hotel.
Services were bad. 6 Euro for breakfast is over charge, coffee and slides of bread.
Hotel room is not clean....

Good location for the value

Great location in Sliema. Close to restaurants and across the road from a swimming area with lounge chairs. 10 minute walk to the €20 cruises to Gozo and Blue Lagoon. The room felt a little dirty but the lobby was good and open to the ocean. Overall good value for the location if you're not looking for a resort style hotel.

Basic but clean.

When I checked in I was told I was staying in another hotel 10 mins away. Not too pleased -the room in the other hotel was tiny. The room in the Europa was v basic but clean. Had a tv but no remote. Asked to pay for wifi in your room. Handy for Sliema centre, St Julien and main bus routes.

You get what you pay for

Whilst the location itself is very central and opens onto the seafront with several excellent places to eat and drink surrounding, the hotel is lacking. The bed was simple and room view was of a rather fetching alley, shower was leaky and you have to book an iron (don't forget the ironing board. Oh and for the love of your stomach don't eat the breakfast

Excellent view but not a comfortable stay.

pros
We had a room on the 5th floor with a balkony which had an excellent view.
Housekeeping was efficient.
Lift was fast
Price was Ok.

cons
Bed sheets were old, thin and torn. Towels were old and hard.
You have to pay for Wifi (we knew that in advance though)
Renovation work of the other room started at 8.00am.
No sound isolation at all. You could hear the street, the sea,the wind (keep in mind that it is very windy in Malta, other guests, doors... everything.
No luggage room - you drop your luggage unattended at the main hall.
Only one European socket in the room.
No check in before 14.00.
Water flow on the bathroom was very slow.
You couldnt adjust hot and cold water at all.
Gaps around the window frame causing air coming in.
Not effective black out curtains. Too much sunlight coming in since early in the morning.
Some of the staff would not even greet you.
Overall not a comfortable stay.

Cheap and cheerful hotel literally across the road from the beach . Staff were polite and helpful and the hotel was fine . We paid for an economy room and thats what we got , comfy bed and on suit toilet / shower . We never intended to live in the room only sleep in it so was fine . Nowadays I would expect wi-fi to be provided and not as a pay for extra .

The location was very close to the sea restaurants and shops with a very good bus service. I would recommend this hotel for an inexpensive stay close to amenities, maybe not so good for a family.

A good value for money

We stayed at the hotel from 8 March until 12 March 2016.
Excellent location- the hotel is by the sea and there are restaurants, cafes,and supermarkets nearby. You can easily go sightseeing using the public transport from the hotel- the buses are new and frequent travelling to all places of interest and the bus stops are next to the hotel.
Our room was with a sea view and a balcony, clean but a bit cold because there wasn't an air condtioner. There was warm water only in the morning until 9.30.
All things considered, the hotel is very good value.
