The Maltese Sun is a fabulous B&B in the heart of Sliema. Within easy reach of some excellent restaurants and close to public transport. The B&B is spotlessly clean throughout. The buffet breakfast is fabulous. Jessica, in reception, and the rest of the team are amazing. Thank you.

Stayed here for a week 27 Sept to 4 Oct 2025.

Room was comfortable and looked to have been recently redecorated. En-suite appeared to be very new. Large TV with Netflix. Large wardrobe. Kettle and tea/coffee replaced daily. Room was cleaned daily. Comfy large bed and pillows.

Nice breakfast served on the rooftop terrace. Eggs cooked to order, selection of cheese, breads etc. Tea, coffee, juice.

Location is great, relatively short walk to Sliema marina and ferries to Valletta or St. Juliens and St George’s in other direction.

Stayed in room 1 which was next to main entrance so some noise with other guests coming and going, but generally very quiet.

Tip: Reception staff leave at 3pm so if arriving after this make sure to get the door codes in advance or the guest in room 1 might have to let you in! :)

Great location, short walk to waterfront and maybe 10 mins to all the restaurants but in a quiet neighbourhood. Great reception, room was spotless, comfie bed and pillows! The rate included breakfast which was really nice and fresh - staff at breakfast were lovely! Served on rooftop terrace which we really enjoyed. Staff super responsive to any queries. Highly recommend!!!

Have you ever stayed somewhere that was just sooooooo close to hitting the mark but missed it every time? That was this place.

Without question the staff were absolutely amazing. Bubbly, kind and chatty. They were honestly the best part of the place. The one tough part is the staff leaves at 3pm, so if there is a problem after, you need to call them.

The room I originally had, had great AC, excellent WiFi and a working TV, but encountered a bug issue and so I called and they were quick to move me.

That room had great AC, a working TV, but the WiFi was completely down for my room, even though it connected in other parts of the guesthouse. This caused some issues as that night I need to do a lot of work and so that took away from my time to explore the next day. I told the front desk the next morning and they moved me again.

This room was upgraded and was very nice. Had excellent AC, okay WiFi… but the TV didn’t work.

I only booked 2 nights and stayed in 3 different rooms but none of them hit the base level marks. What I can tell you is they have excellent AC!

Breakfast was good, the terrace is nice and the location is easy with a 20minute walk to the ferry to Valletta.

I really wanted to give them a better score, but honestly for the experience I had, the place would have needed to be cheaper for me to tolerate as many misses as there were or have given me some form of a small compensation for so many issues in a short trip.

We had a lovely stay. The hotel is located on the quieter streets behind the main road down at the waterfront which made it feel very peaceful. The room was clean and generous, a little bit of a damp smell in the wardrobe. But all in all it was great value and exactly what we needed. We enjoyed the breakfast.

A nice hotel, in a very handy location

A really nice and affordable hotel in a handy area of Sliema. Letting myself in on the evening of my arrival was handy with a code for the main door and then another to get my key from a lockbox. My single room had enough space and wardrobe and nice sized bathroom. Reception staff was nice and friendly. It was helpful having a vending machine in the building for when I needed water at night after the nearby shops had closed. I stayed in November and the area was very quiet, even with the window open all I could hear was the occasional church bells in the distance. Two small issues I had was that there was some dried snot smeared on the wall by the bed when I arrived but I just wiped this off. Then on my last night I knelt on the end of my bed and the mattress fell through. It looks like some slats were missing so I reported this the next morning and the staff said they would look into it. Also be careful when walking around the hotel at night - there are automatic lights that come on when walking around but sometime you have to wave your arms around or walk down the opposite way you want to go in order for the sensor to detect you and turn on. But all in all it was a very nice stay.

The location was great for walking - a little less easy with a car. Close to bus routes. Our room and bathroom were pleasant and clean. There was a wonderful shared kitchen with great facilities. The elevator worked well. Locks were set up to make it easy to come and go as one pleased. We would definitely recommend this accommodation.

This was an excellent guesthouse. Our room was huge and very nicely furnished, with a very comfy bed and great shower. The entire place is beautiful and grand. The guesthouse is also right by the waterfront. Check-in was very easy. Yaseer and the staff were very helpful and lovely. On top of this, the rate was really affordable. We couldn’t recommend The Maltese Sun more. Thanks for having us!

Perfect for the price, clean and comfortable

Highly recommend, very clean, comfortable and not too expensive! It was a last minute booking, checking in was easy, even though there was no one there at check in, we called and they gave us a code to enter and our room was available. Staff was very friendly, I didn’t catch the gentleman’s name working reception but very helpful, courteous and made us feel very welcome. Location is great as well!

A vintage hundred years old building, modernized in a way that suits all the needs of the guests. A great rooftop terrace, common kitchen area, wi-fi signal and an impressive authentic interior, feels like walking in a museum. Very friendly staff and a superb experience. I'm not really sure where to begin with this review...

It is a great location - minutes from the water, restaurants and public transport and most of the staff was friendly and helpful.

However, there were several disappointments with this facility:

#1 - the breakfast. It is overpriced for what you're offered. You'd be better to walk 5 mins at a restaurant along the main road

#2 - housekeeping. We booked 4 nights with the hotel. There is a sign on the door that the room isn't refreshed daily, you must ask reception for fresh towels, etc. After days 2, we asked reception for fresh towels and were told that it would be done. We came back in the evening and still no fresh towels. What was extremely frustrating and disgusting was that housekeeping took the DIRTY towels from a pile in the corner on the floor and HUNG THEM UP up as if they were clean towels. Absolutely baffling and unhygienic. Reception closes at 2p, so I called the customer service # and was told that we couldn't get fresh towels until we've stayed 3 days. I think this is a bit ridiculous and goes against what is posted and what we were told.

#3 - acoustics. There is no insulation, therefore you can hear everything from your room - from the woman blow-drying her hair at 1am to the person cooking in the kitchen at 12a to the traffic on the street at all hours. Good luck getting any sleep here!

#4 - I can't remember exactly what it is called, but we were hounded for the 5euros tax that we knew nothing about.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Maltese Sun. It is a quaint, traditional Maltese guest house. The rooms are basic but comfortable and very good value for money. Location is excellent for visiting Sliema, Valletta, St Julians Bay and Paceville. My only advice would be to avoid the breakfast, it is way over priced at 10euros, better off walking down onto the sea front where there is a nice cafe / restaurant, doing much better food for less.

Property was in a very convenient location (as suggested by other reviews I'd read), close to Exiles bus stop. My room was on the ground floor, so I could hear when folks were milling about in the hallway, which wasn't ideal but liveable. The room was well appointed and had the bonus of a little courtyard garden, which was nice (subject to the mozzies!)
I wasn't a huge fan of the virtual reception, but that's more a personal preference, the place was only manned from 8am to 3pm-ish, when I was not there as I like to get an early start on the day, so there wasn't much scope to get advice / input to my plans.
That said any messages left for them were promptly replied to.
the upstairs terrace is a lovely space and i had breakfast (only time i did) on the last day, breakfast was serviceable and the service was good. However felt quite steep at €10.
On the second to last day I asked them to organise a taxi for the airport for the next day, which they said was done, however the taxi didn't turn up (can't really say who that was down to) and I had to phone up the out of hours number and get a new taxi ordered. A small but unnecessary stress. Overall very happy with my stay.

Good location as it is near the ferry services and bus stops. Many supermarkets and restaurants!
There was a communal kitchen so it was very useful.

Room was great but looked a bit old and 1 of the 2 doors was confusing (hard to open or lock it) so after locking it I didn’t touch that door

What a lovely wee gem of a place. We had a full garden with our room, offering outdoor space with shade.

You can use the roof terrace after breakfast for sitting in the sun, which I did for an hour each morning.

Exceptional accommodation in an ideal location

My partner and I stayed at the Maltese Sun for a 5 night summer holiday. The building is stunning and very stylishly decorated.

Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable with nice furniture. The breakfast was served every morning on the roof terrace and was fresh, varied and plentiful, served with a smile.

We found the location to be very convenient, 2 mins from the Sliema promenade with buses to the airport and elsewhere on the island, 15 mins walk to get the ferry to Valletta and about 10 mins to St Julian's.

The owners were friendly and welcoming and made us feel very much at home, providing recommendations, helping with bike and car rental and organising a group excursion to Comino and the blue lagoon which was one of the highlights of our trip.

Excellent value for money and would highly recommend!

This is a new guest house and the service is fantastic. They haven't finished all the rooms, and are still working on a new roof-top terrace, but the opened rooms and facilities are great. It is just around the corner from a bus stop that takes you into the centre of Sleima or into Valetta. Great restaurants nearby

When we arrived there was no reception as this closes at normal check in time. We got a shock when we got to the room as it was a large bed and 20 cm space on either side. No work space and only a powerpoint next to the bed so could not really iron shirts. Fortunately the manager was happy to give us a larger room although it meant moving after two nights in a room that was still under renovation and smelt of paint. Breakfast is good, the place is close to the beach and restaurants and once it is better established it should be nice to stay there.

Well kept, traditional Maltese house. Comfortable bed, great AC in room. Good kitchen facilities and very thankful for the drinking water tap so we could fill up our water bottles. Each morning we had a good breakfast to start the day. We had great chats with all the staff who were very friendly but Bryan in particular was excellent at giving advice on where to go, what to see and how to go about things during our trip. The hotel is in a very good location, located very close to public transportation and lots of nearby restaurants. The room was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable to sleep in! The hotel had a cosy feel to it.

The highlight for us was the excellent service we received from the staff who were exceptional! In particular the manager, Chris always made time to help and guide us with our queries on the key spots to visit and directed us on how to get there, along with sound recommendations as to good eating places. The breakfast was lovely, and a thoroughly enjoyable experience due to the very warm and friendly Joanna always on hand to talk to. Also Bryan was very helpful with general queries and always available to help. My sister and I look forward to staying here again on our next trip to Malta 😀👍

Unica nota negativa: la stanza era accanto alla cucina per la colazione e la mattina presto si iniziavano a sentire i rumori di chi preparava. Rummen är mycket små och mörka, saknas dagsljus. Belysningen i rummen var mycket undermålig, det var t ex omöjligt att läsa på rummet. Badrummen OK. Städningen på rummen inte särskilt bra. Personalen som serverade frukost mycket trevlig. Transferservice från flygplatsen fungerade ej, trots bokad. Inte prisvärt, vi blev mycket besvikna.

My room was ground level with a small \"open atrium\", allowing you to sit outside in shade.
The room was perfect for one person, it was clean, and it had a Smart TV with internet access (YouTube/Netflix apps available).

From the hotel it's easy to get to public transport, and it's within easy walking distance to for instance, restaurants and the Valletta ferry.

I rented a scooter during my stay, and it was no problem parking it in the street right at the hotel.

There's no staff during the evening, but a self-service snack bar is available, and a convenience store a few hundred meters away.
(I believe you can call the staff if needed, but I didn't need to)

The breakfast - served on the lovely roof terrace - was a big plus.
Most days it was prepared by Linda who did a great job :)
A pretty good selection of food available and you can have fresh eggs prepared as you wish.
(I'd like to recommend the Omelet and also do get the amazing Maltese peppered cheese.)

If/When I'm back on Malta I'll definitely go to The Maltese Sun again :)

Das gesamte Personal war sehr professionell und zuvorkommend und freundlich!
Die Zimmer sehr ruhig und sauber, wenn auch sehr klein( liegt wohl daran, dass es ein altes Gebäude und Platzmangel immer schon vorhanden war). Sehr schöne Frühstücksterrasse mit feinen kleinen Frühstücksbuffet.
Busstation ist in 5 Minuten gut zu Fuß zuerreichen- wenn auch die Buse meist viel zu voll und leider wegen des Verkehrs oft spät kommen ( zu viel Autoverkehr generell )

The hotel is in a calm little street only two minutes walking away from the main road and the waterfront promenade of Sliema where many bars, pubs and restaurants are located.

It's overall very charming, the room was simple but fully equipped. Don't expect a view from the rooms, my window faced a large tree, which however was also nice. The large beautiful roof terrace makes up for it. I especially enjoyed the breakfasts there.

The staff was always extraordinarily friendly and helpful.

Ha sido una estancia fenomenal, la casa, la tranquilidad y la amabilidad de el personal, especialmente Jessica, han sido los mejores valores. Un buen desayuno,una posición estratégica, a pocos pasos de la bahía de san Julián y la comodidad del sitio, nos ha hecho creer que estábamos hablando n nuestra propia casa.
Sin duda si volvemos a Malta, nos alojaremos de nuevo aquí.
