I would recommend this hotel for everyone, including couples & families.

The facilities (indoor pool and gym) can only be used by adults which wasn't clear on booking and would have changed our choice of hotels if we had known.

We were staying with our teenage son so therefore couldn't use these.

There was an outdoor pool but it was very cold and not an option.

We loved it and have stayed before, lovely clean room and great location.
Only downside was that the heating in the hotel was on and it was very hot and we were told we couldn’t therefore use the aircon and to open our balcony door, unfortunately we were very close to the road so this made it very noisy.

The room was more spacious than I was expecting and had a touch of luxury about it. I can't fault the buffet breakfast and facilities available. It felt value for money.

The staff who worked for the hotel were lovely, so it was a shame that the external staff at the shared facilities (Ina and Manta) were often unfriendly and unhelpful.

I also found it bizarre that the hotel didn't deter large groups of local teenagers from hanging around the front of the hotel and even the bar balcony area for several hours.

Was offered an upgrade and wow!!! Room had a massive bathroom with jacuzzi bath and dermalife capsule. The view was amazing with views of the basilica and all the way down to Sliema. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Clean and spacious, with good facilities. Staff were polite and generally helpful. Breakfast buffet was very good. The pool and poolside area is independent from the hotel and reached through a tunnel under the main road. You have to get a reservation ticket to use the sunbeds, and only a proportion of the sunbeds are allowed for hotel users.
We asked for adjoining and if possible connecting rooms in advance, and received an acknowledgement of this: \"room allocations next to each other is subject to availability on the day of your arrival. While we cannot guarantee it, we will certainly take a note of your request and do our best to accommodate you.\" On arrival we were assigned rooms that were 4 floors apart, one of which had a connecting door to another room. How hard is it for a modern hotel to reserve two adjoining or connecting rooms in advance? We consider this poor customer service; very disappointing.

The room was beautifully decorated, with all the comforts we'd expect and more. The amenities at the hotel are great. Use of the gym for free was a real bonus for us and one of the main reasons for booking. It's a fantastic facility. Access to the outdoor pool at Manta was straightforward and another great bonus. However, the service at Manta leaves a lot to be desired, though I accept this is not likely anything to do with the hotel.

The hotel is located in Sliema. All tours from the boats and buses leave from there. You have access to beach club pool and nice gym for free. Plus, the breakfast buffet is awesome!! Lots of options. There a variety of options for lunch and dinner a few minutes down the street. I highly recommend this hotel. It’s new and modern. The staff was amazing.

Amazing Hotel but Pool Situation not ideal.....

Have just returned from a lovely weeks stay with my partner. We booked a Superior room with Sea View and it did not disappoint. The room itself was very modern, spacious and well appointed. A nice big bathroom that had a large bath and a separate shower. The best thing though was the view from the balcony. Overlooking Valletta, the stunning dome and Sliema harbour, it was amazing! We chose not to opt in to breakfast and found a lovely café just a couple of mins walk by The Point shopping mall that served great coffee and pastries for only a few Euros every morning. A better choice for us. Good location too!

The outdoor pool situation does need to get a mention and why i am not giving my review 5 stars. Hotel guests get access to a pool club across the road from the hotel. The club itself is very nice however this is not solely for hotel guests. It's open to paying guests (mostly younger guests) and as such hotel guests are made to feel like 2nd class citizens in many cases. Depending on who was at the pool reception or how busy they were on a particular day meant you were shoved off to one side and any beds close to the pool were not available for hotel guests and only for \"paying\" guests. Also, every day from midday, a DJ would be in situ playing loud dance music which i don't mind on occasion, but when it's that loud and you want a snooze, then you have no chance! A deal breaker? Possibly not but this would make us consider our options if we were to return to Sliema again.

The view and location were what sold me on Barcelo. Cant beat a view across the water to fabulous viiew of Valletta. Location to restaurants and the ferry or other rental boats was great Our room was really huge and very modern. Our balcony was also a plus.

There is no outdoor pool for guests only, you have to share with a beach club where they put hotel guests in a hot dirty corner.
To call this property five star is a joke. Don’t waste your money, stay at either the Phoenicia (more expensive) or 1926 (less expensive), but both are far superior.
The only positive I can come up with is that they have an excellent bartender at the hotel bar.

Disappointing Experience – Not Worth the Hype

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent stay left much to be desired. While the hotel appears promising online, the actual experience didn’t match the marketing.
•The pool area is severely misrepresented. The pool beds for hotel guests are nothing like the promotional photos — they’re far less appealing and must be reserved a day in advance, which isn’t disclosed clearly. They shouldn’t be advertised as part of the stay if access is this limited.
•Cable service was unreliable, frequently cutting in and out.
•My shower flooded every time I used it, making the bathroom messy and uncomfortable.
•Housekeeping was inconsistent — daily water wasn’t replenished, and after using the provided shower cap, it was removed and never replaced.
•I attempted to call the front desk multiple times, but no one ever answered.
•The hair dryer is oddly stored in a closet with a very short and restrictive cord, making it awkward to use.
•Lastly, be warned: if you open your curtains, neighboring rooms can see directly inside, offering little to no privacy.

This stay felt frustrating and underwhelming, especially for the price point. I wish I stayed somewhere else.

The fortina was just the best, the staff on arrival were the best, informative, polite, courteous and couldn't do enough, the room was fabulous with an amazing view across the harbour to Valletta, the food was amazing, if I was to have any negative points it would be for the hotel not to advertise that it has an out door pool....it doesn't, it has a very small share in an out door pool, that you have to book a slot at the day before. But when you get to the pool you are told which beds you can have, no sea views, all at the back etc. priority is given to people not staying at the hotel for a premium 50euros per lounger

Everything was amazing besides the location of the pool! It is why I gave it 4 stars. I would even give it 3 stars only because of that. It is a shared pool across the street from the hotel! Meaning its open to the public, and if you like to use It you need to reserve it the day before! Because it's open to the public and they do charge really good prices for day passes they do prioritize the guests from the outside. We never got any good lounges, matter of fact we went 3 times and each time were given the worst possible spots! It is extremely inconvenient and not very well thought 😕
Malta doesn't really have any good beaches so we were hopping to at least enjoy some good pool times!

Staff welcoming, friendly and helpful. Nice clean room with large bathroom decent sized shower. There was a blue sensor light on the ceiling which did disturb sleep as it lit up with the slightest of movement and the ceiling was too high to cover the light temporarily.
Stayed in March so too cold and windy to enjoy balcony which had a partial sea view and view of Valetta. Room service overall was good, but some issues getting tea and coffee to cover both an evening drink and morning, though this eventually got sorted. Also found balcony door had been left partially open on one occasion after room had been serviced. Indoor pool hours could be better but would meet most people’s needs. Outdoor pool was a good size, though sadly didn’t get a chance to use it. Good sized gym with lots of equipment on offer.
The lobby was lacking atmosphere and there was nowhere to sit and have a drink. The bar area is across the road and down a level as it forms part of the outdoor pool area, but a small bar in the lobby would get passing trade as well as make a nice pit stop before heading to room.
Didn’t use restaurant or have breakfast as lots of options for food and drink in the general Sliema area.

Had a pretty decent stay at Barcelo Fortina Malta. Check in was easy and smooth.

I booked last minute and the only room available was their cheapest option. It was room 237 and the balcony faced the bridge leading to the mall next to the hotel. People constantly crossing so couldn't leave the curtains open as they could see straight into the room. In future if all available is their cheapest room I wouldn't book.

The breakfast had a good selection and finished at a decent hour allowing a bit of sleeping in. The coffee tasted cheap however. At the egg station Anthony made some of the best omelettes I've had in years.

Only issue we had was that the clothes iron we had in our room was leaking water and not working properly. Housekeeping came to see about it and instead of simply changing it for a working one, seemed to interrogate us and made it seem like our fault the iron wasn't working as we overfilled it. I can guarantee we didn't fill it beyond the max line. They eventually changed it, but it took about 30 minutes+ for their technician to investigate the faulty iron which meant we were just waiting around in the room. In these instances, especially in a '5 star hotel' it should've been a simple 'Thank you for letting us know' and immediately replace the faulty iron without any questions and they can investigate on their own time.

It's a great location, and a 5 minute walk from downtown Sliema and the ferry.

Unsure if I would stay again. Good coffee is important.

We had an amazing room with a beautiful view of the capital of Malta 🇲🇹 Valletta. We were on top 17th floor. It was very nice to have use of a private gym on the premises and also use of a pool day club across street which is connected underground as well called Manta. But you must ask for the towels from the front desk and reserve a daybed ahead of time. If not you can always go for drinks 🍹 which is a good deal 2 for 1 for a couple of hours daily right when the sunset is occurring.

I highly recommend this place. The location is excellent, with a great selection of nearby restaurants, including Tora, Manta, Opa!, and Chophouse and a near by Mall. It's also just a five-minute walk to the ferry terminal with easy access to Valletta.The staff were exceptionally professional and welcoming. The rooms were clean, spacious, and well-maintained. The gym was impressive, offering modern equipment, fitness classes, and personal training options.The pool area was another highlight, providing a relaxing atmosphere and stunning views of Valletta.

The hotel was well located, easy access to transportation to get to main attractions. Close to really good dinner options. Their morning buffet was a bit pricey but included a lots of choices. Great gym and spa. The pool area was beautiful, great view .too bad i didn't get to enjoy it, it was too cool for us but if I come back in summer I won't miss it!! The rooms were very clean, comfortable, and spacious. We had some view of Valleta and it was a great sight to wake up every morning!

The room was lovely, the balcony door was very heavy, if you are elderly, you wouldn't be able to open it readily.
The pool was good 5 minutes walk through underground corridors and opened 9am to 7pm which is pretty useless if you go out for the day.I would expect 7am to 10pm.
The outside of the hotel has bleak grey corporate looking courtyard just paving, no plants or anything homely.
But that said it is clean, the rooms are spotless, huge bed with great pillows, brilliant shower, more than enough toiletries and tea coffee etc.
Staff were super friendly and helpful.
We didn't eat in the hotel as prefer to try out the local area which had plenty to offer.

It's been long coming, as previous patrons of the old Fortina. We took note of the changes, but still loved the hotel for what it is. It's clean, comfortable, parking is cheap, the bar is quiet and well stocked and the restaurants are top notch. In what is today a multicultural society, we were also pleased and proud to note that in the main restaursnt, the chef is Maltese and there is a healthy mix of local and foreign staff.

We stayed for three nights. We had a partial harbour view which was lovely. The reception staff were really friendly and helpful. The room is well equipped and comfortable. Not eco-friendly as they replaced our towels each day even though we hung them up, and only replaced the bathroom bits a couple of hours before we were checking out?? They did a lovely cake and free gift. Tora was also great for lunch with an amazing view and a walk through the labyrinth under the road to get there! Only a few minutes walk to the ferry terminal to go over to Valetta. Sleima is definately the tourist side, but has a great view and lots of restaurants. Would recommend!

The hotel is ideally situated for the marina, buses, shopping, all the staff are warm and friendly from reception, restaurant, housekeeping etc and have a nothing is too much trouble attitude. My birthday was made very special with a surprise cake and desert, and after a 3 week stay we would not hesitate in returning. Our sea view with balcony was excellent and every evening chocolates are brought to the room which is a very nice touch, and guests asked if they need anything. No faults with the hotel or service, but they could do with toilet facilities in the ground level for convenience.

Not possible to name everyone, but would like to thank Goran Sachevski, Gabriella, and all the staff who we encountered with friendliness and warmth.

Incredible view from our 11th floor premium sea view room overlooking the harbor and Valletta. Great staff, convenient location to great restaurants, the shopping mall, and the ferry to Valletta. Enjoyed the included access to the beach club across the street which was also accessible underground. Close to the Guadalupe Boat Bar & Bistro - our favorite hang out!

I had a great stay with them. The view to Valletta as well as the ocean and the marina bay is incredible, simply gorgeous incomparably beautiful. Balcony is spacious, staffs are friendly, location is convenient with great restaurants around. I will bring my family back here for vacation soon.

The reception staff were very kind and helpful. The standard room I stayed in was a generous size, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was a very good size too and had a bath tub as well as a shower. The amenities in the room was more than enough, the staff replenished our teas and coffees everyday including water. Only downside from our lovely experience, was the guests that were staying next door. They were very loud and kept us awake for most of the night. Playing loud music and sometimes arguing. We didn’t inform the hotel reception as it was our last night anyway. I am sure if we had mentioned to the hotel staff, they would have done something about it as they were so friendly and helpful always.

We had a sea view room. I would say the view over the harbour to Valletta is definitely worth the extra. The hotel is well situated for local transport. There is an outdoor pool and bar on the waterfront which really allows you to take in the wonder of the harbour area.

Lovely hotel. All new and fresh. The rooms were of a great standard. Strongly recommend upgrading to a Premium Room. These have a very good view.

Our stay was overall pleasant. The hotel is in a great location on the Sliema side, with a bus stop and ferry stops conveniently nearby. The room itself was nice, and we appreciated the twice-daily room cleaning service, which was a lovely touch. However, the soundproofing could be improved, as noise from the neighboring room was disruptive at times.

The food offered a variety of options, but the quality was average. Unfortunately, there were very few vegetarian options, and no lactose-free milk was available, which was disappointing. Additionally, a male supervisor in the restaurant was quite intense and intrusive, often making unnecessary comments to guests, which detracted from the dining experience.

On a brighter note, Fatima from Spain, part of the restaurant staff, was exceptionally friendly and helpful, which we truly appreciated.

A lovely surprise during our stay was a chocolate cake to celebrate my birthday—even though we hadn’t mentioned it. This thoughtful gesture was much appreciated. Thank you!

We had an amazing stay at this hotel!! It made our first time in Malta all the more special. We were lucky to have our room upgraded as well and the hot tub on our balcony was a treat we will remember forever! The staff were very kind and helpful and helped create a peaceful, luxurious atmosphere. 10/10 - wouldn’t change a thing!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Barcelo Fortina! So convenient to take the ferry and walk around. We did the 1/2 board and dinner and breakfast was amazing. We also had access to the state of the art gym and spa including the ice bath and hammam. Highly recommend!

On arrival at the hotel, we were oiffered a glass of prosecco at check in and then upgraded to a superior room This was a break to celebrate our ruby wedding, although I had not informed the hotel, so this came as a pleasant surprise. The room was huge with a moden decor and nice furnishings. The bathroom was spacious and well appointed, There were robes and slippers in the wardrobe for use and two balconies, one with a partial sea view and the other huge balcony with its own hot tub and furniture. The bed was probably the largest and most comfortable I have slept on. All staff were helpful, smart and polite and the breakfast buffet was again the best I have seen, with a tremendous choice of
food to suit all tastes. The location was excellent, being right across the harbour from Valletta and within 100 metres of the ferry. Beautiful views of Valletta at night. The hotel is in a perfect location, being in an area with nice restaurants, bars and shops, so plenty of choice. It is also a few minutes away from Valletta with all its history and culture. We had a fantastic stay at the Barcelo and it has everything you could want from a resort hotel. Thank you for making our trip so special.

A modest but elegant hotel. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Provided great recommendations for restaurant and shopping options. Access to the lounge chairs across the street facing the water is a big bonus! Arranged for our early ride to the airport. Lots of construction noise though, but this will end and the facilities will be that much better.
