All of the staff were friendly from the moment we checked in until we left which given that it was at 3.30 am they were still smiling (Michael)
The room was clean and every day it was the same high standard, breakfast was very good, again the staff were outstanding in their service, nothing was too much trouble. A good variety of food on offer, we were even given a breakfast to take with us when we left as it was so early in the morning, a really lovely unexpected gesture.
The downside to the hotel was the room had only one window which faced the corridor, there wasn't much natural light, you had to have the lights on day or night.
The air conditioning was very powerful even on the lowest setting and situated so it blew cold air right onto your head, as we couldn't get any air from the window it meant we were up and down turning the air con on and off throughout the night. I would book to stay here again if I could have a different room as the location was also good, but beware there are a lot of steps to navigate before you can even get into the hotel.

This is a modern boutique hotel located in the bottom end of the Valletta peninsula. It is relatively new (2 years old) spread over five or six floors with a small number of rooms on each floor. The hotel is reached from the road by walking down steep steps to the far end of an alleyway - don’t expect taxi drivers or staff to carry your bags. Breakfast is part of the deal but the quality and range of foods on offer is not extensive. Coffee comes from a capsule machine and juice is not freshly squeezed. Cooked breakfast is eggs, beans, sausages and bacon. The cereal selection is simple.
The room had a king sized bed and good aircon- the bathroom had a good shower/bath with plenty of hot water but the basin was a strange design which meant wet shaving was a challenge. The in-room safe was not attached to anything so presumably could have been carried out (it wasn’t). On the roof is a plunge pool with loungers and a bar so it is possible to get away from the hubbub of Valletta and chill.
The best bit about the hotel was its location within walking distance of everything that Valletta had to offer. The staff were attentive and helpful. Thursday nights the mother hotel around the corner offers a local food dinner plus drink which was worthwhile.

This hotel is ideally located in a quiet area but only a few minutes walk to the centre of Valetta. The staff were extremely friendly. The breakfast was fabulous with plenty of choice. The rooftop pool and terrace were a lovely bonus. We had a lovely time.

A really nice boutique hotel that is well situated close to all the amenities in Valletta old town. The staff are really friendly and helpful, especially the breakfast room staff.
Breakfast is very good, the only minor grumble being that the pastries were very dry.
The rooftop area with swimming pool and bar is a nice place to relax after a heavy day of sightseeing.

Since the hotel is located on the side street, there’re some steps to getting down and up to: from the hotel. It’s very quiet but 10 mins walk to Republic Square. Many restaurants and busy area nearby. The room we stayed has a tiny window which can’t see anything or use it properly. So the room is dark and no fresh air. Air conditioning is needed in this case. It’s quiet and cool. Good selection of breakfast. Very friendly staff.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and 3 days. We were initially assigned a different room than the one we booked, so we immediately requested a change. Michael worked hard to switch us and managed to get us a room with a window. The hotel was very clean, and the breakfast was good. The staff were especially friendly. Great bit of advice from another review which we took advantage of, make use of their sister Hotel as it is central located and whilst this hotel has a Pool their sister Hotel has an amazing view from the pool overlooking the three cities. You can use it for free just like reception now. All in all a great place to stay.

The staff were all very nice. Breakfast was tasty with a good coffee machine. The pool was out of service but offered the use of a pool at another property. A little inconvenient but nice that they had that available.
The only issue I had was the temperature of the room in the evenings. If I left the window cracked open. The sounds of others doors opening and closing could be loud even with the exhaust fan in the bathroom left running. With the window closed it didn’t seem like the air conditioning did much even when set to 18 C

Overall I would say the hotel was good. The room size was medium. A bit tight to spread the suitcases. There was a small table with a chair. It can be used to as a dressing table bit too small for two people to sit and eat. There was a wardrobe with a safe. A small refrigerator, kettle, tea, coffee etc.a tv. Iron wand iron table was provided on request. A complementary jug of water was provided every day.
Room had a very small window. The room we booked was meant to have a city view but didn’t. When enquired why we weren’t given the advertised/ booked room we were told a room with city view doesn’t exist. The entrance of the hotel was accessed after going down a stretch of stairs , with heavy suitcases in can be an issue. While Ordering food the delivery people were not able to easily locate the entrance.
The bathroom was stunning and the fixtures were of high quality. The mirror was lovely. They provided handwash, body wash and shampoo/ conditioner was combined, there were bathrobes and slippers.
The AC was centralized which we couldn’t control so had to ask for a fan as it was too hot in the hotel in March even though the highest temperature outside was 16 degree celcius.
Food was very tasty. Variety was limited but the taste of the food compensated for it.
Staff were very helpful.
The only downside for us was the location of the hotel , the streets were narrow and too steep.

Great communication pre-stay! Fantastic staff throughout the hotel. Friendly and helpful 24 hour reception, wonderful greetings and always making sure everything was making your holiday pleasant. Every area was sparkling clean and the rooms were superb. The free morning breakfast buffet was a great way to start your day, fresh sliced fruits, local pastries, hot breakfast as well. There is no air conditioning in the bedrooms. The hotel states it has air conditioning and a swimming pool, neither was true. The hotel was set on heating mode during the entirety of the stay and the rooms were far too hot as a result. The hotel staff offered a fan for the room. The swimming pool was not open during the entire stay. Nice location and a decent breakfast on offer.

Fantastic small hotel, away from the crowds but well within easy reach of everything Valetta has to offer.

Rooms were modern, well appointed, spotless with 5* amenities. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was good/just what was needed.
We had a studio with balcony and hot tub...but the room was small and certainly not a studio. My parents double room was probably more spacious. This is why I have only given 4 stars instead of 5 stars.

Careful if you use the car service for pickup...we were late to request this and the car that collected us must have been the oldest, dirtiest car Valetta had to offer! BOLT/UBER is easy and a safer and more reasonably priced bet.

We were very impressed how professional, helpful, courteous and friendly the staff are.
The hotel itself was spotless, there wasn't one area that was not up to a high standard.
Our bedroom, while not the biggest, was very clean, the bed was very comfortable, terrific shower and in-room tea & coffee were supplied daily as were fresh towels.
The breakfast was included and it was excellent. A wide range of food, hot drinks and fruit juices were on offer.
The hotel has a rooftop bar, sun bathing area and a small pool. Its a great suntrap up there.
The hotel is situated at the heart of Valletta. It is a 10min walk from most of the major attractions, restaurants and bars in rhe city centre. The only thing I would tell people to consider is that to walk from the hotel to the main area in Valletta is up a steep hill.If you are a little infirm or unsteady walking uphill, this hotel may not be for you but my wife and I are in our 60s and managed it easily.
Taking everything into consideration, I would highly recommend The San Karlu for a stay in Malta.

We recently stayed at this property for a week’s vacation and it was an incredibly lovely boutique hotel. The entire hotel and rooms were very clean, the staff was polite and helpful in every way, and the amenities were superb (breakfast included and rooftop pool and seating area a huge plus!). The hotel is a short walk to all attractions and eateries and right around the corner from a beautiful sea view. We truly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

The room allocated for our booking was spacious but there was a certain smell. It could be due to the product they use for cleaning. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. Thanks to Rhea, Nydell, Diana, Jey, Santosh & Chat. The hotel had a rooftop pool & there was a little kiosk to order sandwiches & amazing daiquiris. There’s a couple of restaurants & bars nearby in alley ways.

A fantastic boutique hotel, with the most incredibly helpful staff. The rooms were fantastic and they were cleaned every day, which we didnt expect. The breakfast included was again more than we expected and there was a great choice as well. The pool area at the top the hotel was again a nice area to relax and was spotless and there was a small bar to enjoy drinks and snacks.
Once again I couldn't recommend this hotel enough. The staff are a credit to their company and a special thanks to Sandtosh for looking after me and wife at Breakfast time.

The San Karlu exceeded all of my hopes, with its location in the heart of old town Valletta. Service was excellent and so was the breakfast. I recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to holiday in an historic, beautifully renovated building with a nice pool and in walking distance to almost all of Valletta, particularly restaurants and bars.

I had an amazing stay at San Karlu! The location is perfect—just a short walk (less than 10 minutes) from the main bus stop and close to bars, restaurants, and the main square of Veleta.
The staff were incredibly friendly, and I especially want to thank Florianne, who was so helpful with recommendations and guidance on using public transport.

The hotel itself is spotless and offers great amenities. The swimming pool was a highlight—perfect for cooling off in Malta’s heat—and there’s a bar and food service if you feel like lounging by the pool all day.

Breakfast was lovely, and overall, the experience exceeded expectations. Highly recommend!

Overall, good experience. We stayed for 3 nights and this hotel was great. I think if you are staying any longer opt for a bigger hotel for space and comfort. We had a double bed and a sofa bed so room was tight. Sofa bed was not comfortable for my 2 teens, probably fine for smaller children though. Roof top pool was lovely for evenings but it's a shame there is not a a view of anything nice to look out on, this would have made sunsets so pretty. Breakfast was small but has a good selection of everything you need to start your day. Limited tables but we never had to wait and went at different times during our stay. Staff was generally very friendly and service was good. I requested a table to be moved out to make room for me to open my suitcase, extra water jug and ironing board, all requests actioned happily. You have to get down some steps to get to the hotel so would not be suitable for people with any kind of mobility issue. Very central so ideal hub to explore valetta from. It looked on Google earth like it was down some dodgy alley, but don't let this put you off, it felt totally safe both in the day and night. Lovely stay for a few nights.

This hotel was perfect, it’s in an ideal location to get to most of the bars, restaurants as well as the tourist attractions!

The hotel was clean, very modern and the room was very spacious, very clean and very well presented, we loved the little touches such as the robes, slippers and the little hamper of stuff you may need such as a vanity kit and moisturiser.

The staff at the hotel were very accommodating, friendly and happy to help every second of the day!

The pool was a perfect edition, it was very clean and the area around it was always presentable!

The rooftop bar staff were amazing! The bar Itself served both food and snacks, with the staff bringing them over to where you were located!

If there weren’t any towels available upon entering the pool deck, the staff were happy to help and radio down for some to be brought up, they then brought them over to you at your sun lounger or table!

All in all, we couldn’t pick any faults with this hotel! It was perfect for us!

We had a lovely stay at San Karlu in Valletta. The hotel is tucked down a charming alleyway in a traditional building, which adds to the charm. Everything was super clean and well looked after. Our room was a great size for a few nights – comfy bed, good aircon, and plenty of hanging space.

The rooftop pool was a real highlight — the perfect way to unwind after exploring the beautiful streets of Valletta and the Three Cities.

The only downside was the breakfast — a bit limited and cramped, but honestly, for the price point, you can’t expect everything. There are plenty of fantastic cafés nearby for a proper coffee and pastry fix.

The location is quiet at night but within easy walking distance to all the action for dinner and drinks. Staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive.

Overall, a fantastic little hotel at a great value. We’d definitely come back!

Me and my girlfriend visited Malta for the first time over half-term and stayed at the San Karlu for three nights. The hotel was lovely, with nice rooms and a delicious breakfast. The pool was also lovely to visit, with the rooftop bar a bonus! The only feedback we'd give is that the pool could do with being heated, especially for when the sun goes down, and also the railings around the pool could do with glass or perspex layer to block out the wind - it can get a little chilly on the roof! Otherwise a lovely stay and we'll be back again!

The hotel was lovely, very clean room was perfect good size, loved the dressing gown with slippers, we had a safe and cooler fridge,
staff very friendly, breakfast was great a good choice, if there was anything we needed staff were very helpful.
Perfect location easy to get about, walking distance to the square restaurant and bars, shops…
Definitely will recommend this place and if I was to go back to Malta I definitely would stay at the same place.

The property was spotless. Breakfast was good. The location was within walking distance too many attractions and to the ferry. The only drawback about Valletta was the walking up and downstairs. But that had nothing to do with the property. I would stay there again. There were lots of great restaurants and nightlife very close to the hotel. But the hotel was extremely quiet.

Nice cosy place away from noise but near main area

It's a lovely cosy hotel near the main attractions of Valletta yet quiet enough. The convenience store and pizza place Sally port is near enough to grab quick bites and groceries on rainy day. The reception staffs are nice and friendly and willing to help (water bottle refills and guide tips on getting around). The breakfast staff manager in suit was helpful and attentive. Housekeeping staffs were clean and prompt. Will recommend this for stay in Valletta

Hotels.Com gave me the wrong address for the Hotel

I enjoyed the hotel - when l got there ! Hotels.Com gave me the wrong address and l spent great deal of time dragging my luggage all over the pedestrian centre of Valletta trying to find it.

Wonderful experience in Malta.

Very happy about our stay at San Karlu Hotel. The rooms were spacious and modern with all amenities. The breakfast was outstanding and the employees were great. The hotel was centrally located surrounded by historic buildings and great restaurants.

Overall, it was a great stay. However, the area within a 2-3 minute walk from the hotel felt a bit quiet and secluded, with quite a few vacant houses around. It’s worth being a little cautious when coming and going.
