Would I stay at The Barrister again?............. DEFINITELY! This small, but perfectly formed hotel was ideal for my four day stay in Valletta. Every member of staff were exceptional in their customer service, offering insider tips on where to go and see. The room was spotless and the continental style breakfast set us up for the days of sightseeing.

The room was fine although little natural light as we were looking out at a wall across a narrow street, although the details said ‘city view’.
The hotel management are very helpful about what to do and see.
From the pictures on the website we were expecting a roof terrace for hotel guests however the roof terraces are attached to 3 rooms on the top floor only. There is no bar in the hotel which is unusual.
The noise of the loud music coming from the bars around the corner into the early hours of the morning is awful, then the nearby construction work starts up before 7am. There seems little the hotel can do about this currently.

We stayed at The Barrister Hotel in Valletta to celebrate the New Year and had a wonderful time. The hotel location is excellent, in the centre of the city, and close to the main tourist attractions, bars, restaurants, buses and ferries.
All the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our room was a good size and comfortable, with all the amenities we needed, including a good sized walk-in shower. There was some noise from the local bars, due to being so central, but keeping the windows closed kept most of the noise out. Earplugs were provided but not needed.
The continental breakfast was fresh with a good variety to choose from and staff were very attentive, offering a range of hot and cold drinks.
We would recommend the Barrister to anyone wanting a boutique experience in the heart of Valletta.

Great location, lovely hotel, immaculately clean. Warm welcome, very friendly & helpful staff, manager Mark gave good advice for walking in the countryside. Room very spacious & comfortable. Good selection of items for breakfast. Would benefit from a bar, although there are plenty around. Major downside for me was the nightime noise from a neighbouring bar, it was SO LOUD and on Fri/Sat/Sun nights, this noise went on until 05:30-06:00 the next morning, from people singing, shouting & screaming. Not as noisy for as long, on weekdays, maybe the bar shut earlier than on the weekend. I sleep with silicone earplugs & music still too loud to sleep for me, husband coped a bit better as he would sleep on a washing line, during a firework display, though he was kept awake too at times. Local rules/street signs say noise to be kept down after 23:00 for the locals, but this is not enforced. Really enjoyed the break though, lots to see & do across Malta/Gozo/Comino, buses good but very busy. Fast ferries & gondolas good too. Everyone out & about very friendly, good range of restaurants to eat at, English widely spoken.

The main issue for us was the noise in our room coming from adjacent bars. There is not much to the hotel apart from a breakfast room, and the hero picture is misleading as it is a private terrace which is not accessible to most rooms

Street closed off. Massive Crane overhead. Bags of rubbish dumped in the doorway of the derelict building next door .Outside of hotel area very unappealing. Music from carmens club on next street was unbelievable. It was so noisy until at least 2am or maybe later , then when the music stops got to listen to the revellers for a further hour. If this is what you enjoy then this hotel will suit you .

Lovely, clean, classy boutique style hotel within a historical building. All of the staff were fantastic and made our stay feel as though we were staying with good friends. The owner has a wealth of knowledge about Malta and the best attractions to see as well as suggestions of the best restaurants at reasonable prices. The hotel is also perfectly situated for exploring Valletta on foot. The owner and all of the staff worked hard to ensure that our stay was a memorable experience and we were made to feel valued and special.

Perfect city-center boutique hotel

Really enjoyed my time here - spent a week and was a lovely little home base in Malta. Rooms all very thoughtfully designed with high-quality linens and toiletries. Breakfast was above and beyond relative to a boutique hotel of this size, with plenty of delicious options and an extremely attentive staff. Everyone in the hotel was very kind and welcoming, and hotel owner Mark goes out of his way to get to know his guests and provide everything they need to have a wonderful stay. If you’re looking for a chain-style hotel with silent rooms and an enormous buffet, I might look elsewhere, but if you want to stay at a lively, top-quality boutique hotel at the heart of a European city, Barrister is the place to go. I swear by Rick Steves in Europe and could definitely see this spot in his guide if he had one for Malta. The excellent ratings are well-earned.

Mark and his team went above and beyond to ensure our stay was all we wanted it to be. Mark is very knowledgeable about Malta and helped us with deciding on days out. We booked room 42 with its own terrace and hot tub, which insured we had fantastic views for the NYE fireworks. Complimentary bubbly in the fridge on arrival along with snacks and soft drinks. I dont think we would change a thing. Don't be put off by the location, although very close to some noisy bars, the rooms are very sound proof and they supply earplugs as a back up, although we didn't need them. The bed was so comfortable obe of the best ive slept on and im fussy. They really think of everything you might have forgotten..Complimentary top class toiletries, shaving kit, dental kit, sewing kit, nail file, cotton buds the works. Thank you for such a magnificent stay we will be back 10/10

The hotel Is located in the center of the town, easy to walk to the ferry, bus or just enjoying the views of this amazing city. The hotel is comfortable, the staff is very professional and friendly.
The only cons I have to mention is the sounds from the bars🎵 at night, it can be loud! But, the hotel will provide ear plugs😁. We had breakfast 🍳included with was great.
The owner Mark is very knowledgeable about places and how to get there, definitely if you need help ask him.

Fantastic small hotel, great location. Walkable to everything in Valletta. Staff is friendly & helpful. Mark, the owner is outgoing, enthusiastic about Malta & as helpful as he could be. His recommendation for a driver on Gozo was spot on. Martin picked us up at the ferry & drove us around Gozo for the day at a reasonable price. My only problem was noise Friday night from the bars nearby. But we were supplied ear plug, & with the window closed it wasn't really a problem. I would recommend the Barrister to anyone visiting Valletta!

Lovely stay - rooms at the front of the hotel can be quite noisy at night because of the bars but they do provide ear plugs. Breakfast is continental but sufficient. The manager is lovely and offers any advice or tips you might be looking for. Staff are all polite and pleasant. Building itself is very clean and well kept but the bathroom did sometimes have a sulphur smell. Could be more eco friendly with the toiletries but the water and free mini bar were a lovely touch!

Excellent property and staff could not be more delightful, friendly or helpful. Nothing is too much bother. Owner on site every day and mixes with guests and is always willing to improve your stay. The only minor issue is noise from surrounding cafes and bars which I found disturbing on a few nights, otherwise I doubt you could get a better place to enjoy Malta. Many suggestions of things to do and see, places to go were offered, including ferry and bus times, and my days were filled. Excellent service all round.

This was a very friendly boutique hotel. Mark (the owner) and Emma (reception) gave us lots of information on what to see, and the best way to get there. The Barrister is very central, just off the Main Street. Everything in Valletta is walkable.
We would definitely stay here again, so friendly
The only down side was the lack of a proper shower, it was a low shower head over the bath.

We stayed at the Barrister in October and we made the best choice! Before we even got there, both Mark and Emma were extremely helpful. Our flights got changed before we went and we ended up needing to spend 3 more nights there. We booked our initial stay with Expedia, but they were great working with us to extend our time through them and matching the price/night we booked with Expedia. They also helped us setup airport transfer and that was great as well.
Emma was fantastic! She was so friendly and knowledgeable, I looked forward to seeing her when she was working the front desk. The hotel was very clean and had a lot of amenities, even little things like a razor, sewing kit, toothbrush,. The location was perfect! I would highly recommend staying here!

The Barrister is an average townhouse conversion hotel, with all the attendant benefits and drawbacks. Some of the rooms are big, other tiny. Soundproofing works in parts of the building, in others it doesn't. Everything in central Valletta is within a few minute's walk, but it's also in close proximity of bars playing loud music late into the night. However, these are things you expect and accept - still, breakfast was done on the cheap, no questions about that.

Great location in the heart of Valletta, between the two main roads with plenty of restaurants and bars in easy walking distance. Main attractions in Valletta also on your doorstep. We would fully recommend staying at The Barrister in Valletta. A beautiful compact hotel nestled in a small and quiet backstreet in between some of the best areas for food and drink.

This was an immaculately clean and presentable hotel with large rooms full of complimentaries. We selected the roof terrace with hot tub, which did not disappoint. Staff were the friendliest we came across during our stay in Malta and were so helpful, especially with the extra circumstances of travelling in 2021. Thank you!

I can’t fault the hotel for its location, cleanliness, amenities and customer service. Mark has been such a lovely and helpful host and made us feel so at home and welcomed. Visiting Malta for the first time, we arrived in the middle of Carnavale. The festivities were fantastic and included all ages. Our host gave us excellent advice on sightseeing and arranged transportation with reliable and entertaining taxi service, including 5:00am pick up to the ferry terminal on our departure.

My wife and I stayed at the Barrister Hotel for a long weekend.

The rooms are very comfortable and the continental breakfast was good too.

The owner is very welcoming and is full of recommendations of things to do in Malta. Normally my wife does research into every country we visit and has a long list of things she wants to do. Instead, we got speaking to the owner on our first night and his recommendations helped us plan our entire trip. We went to some lovely places and had a great holiday.

Truly exceptional.

On arrival we were allocated a very pleasant , rather small room, but the owner was anxious to upgrade us as we had booked a two week stay, and this he did rapidly. Without exception, the staff were lovely; professional, helpful, friendly and anxious to please. Mark, the owner, is a font of information, with a wealth of experience in this business.
This relatively small, but perfect boutique hotel, is conveniently situated close to the heart of Valletta, in one of the many historic minor streets of this beautiful compact city.
Our choice is to find a gem like this, infinitely preferable to a bustling meandering five star hotel spreading over acres.
Our advice to readers of this review: don't miss the opportunity to stay here and soak up the vibes of both the hotel and the city.

We booked this hotel after reading reviews on line, and were not disappointed. It's a fabulous hotel. Perfect location within easy walking distance of Valetta's attractions. The room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Mark was so knowledgeable and informative and nothing was too much trouble. He arranged a day trip to Gozo, which we would highly recommend. He also recommended restaurants and sights worth seeing. We would definitely stay here again. This small property is a real find. It is really friendly and everything just works without being sterile and bland. For a stay of 5 nights it got to feel like home as we discovered the city and island.
It is well located near but not on top of the busy main streets.

Loved the overall feel of the hotel. Location was great. Staff were lovely and made the whole stay very easy. Lovely touches like mulled wine and mince pies upon arrival, and a glass of Prosecco with the breakfast on New Year's Day added to making our stay very pleasant. One very minor comment would be that a bit more storage in the bedroom would have been useful.

Staff were extremely helpful and kind. The moment I arrived, they were already expecting me and the check in was very easy. Prior to my checking in I had injured my left knee from falling down at the airport while running to make a connecting flight. Staff provided me an icepack and even were willing to make me an appointment at a medical clinic (around xmas time which is not easy to do im sure). Then the first morning I had slept in and missed breakfast and they brought me breakfast to my room! This hotel is all about service and hospitality.

A well-presented small hotel, in a refurbished old building, operated by an enthusiastic and friendly team, headed up by the owner, Mark. Nothing is too much trouble. Need a special diet at breakfast? Just let them know and they will do what they can to assist you!. If you want tips on where to go etc., they can provide all of that, of course.

The hotel is centrally placed in Valletta and nowhere in that city is more than a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Very handy for bars, restaurants and all the major sights.

The accommodation is very clean, there's a lift if you need it to all 3 floors, the buffet breakfast is continental style (meats, cheeses, fruit, yoghurt, bread, croissants etc.) and presented well and fresh daily. A really good starter for the day!! They don't do evening meals (as of 2019) but that's the plan for the future and also to expand the breakfast menu once the kitchen is up and running.

We had a 4 night stay which was very relaxing. It can get a bit noisy out in the streets in the evenings, as they are narrow and echo quite a bit, plus traffic is very close to the hotel, but with the double glazing it's less of an issue. Anyway, you don't stay in a city centre hotel and expect silence! The rooms have aircon in case you want to keep your windows closed.

Good wifi. The tv choice is a bit limited. Also there's a hair dryer and ironing.board if you need them. Tea/coffee in room plus free mini bar (soft drinks, snacks)

Stay there again? You bet we would!!

Great new hotel

New small hotel, the rooms still smell new with a cute theme. The fan on the AC/Heater unit is really quiet, so if you need white noise bring a fan or open the window. The bathrooms are small, but you have what you need. The only real negative is the shower doors require you squeeze into the shower. It's a bit uncomfortable but possible. The service is great. Close to anything in Valletta. The breakfast is ok, has European style meats & cheeses (not my type of breakfast) and breads. Check-in & out is very easy. Would recommend!

Well placed good quality boutique hotel

This is a lovely boutique hotel ideally placed for Valletta city centre. Our host gave us superb advice every day on the best places to visit, eat and travel. Having breakfast included was a bonus. Every single member of staff is lovely and friendly. Even the taxi that was booked for us to return to the airport was a touch of class. Thoroughly recommend this hotel

The staff went above and beyond to be helpful, the breakfast was good but there is nowhere to relax in the hotel - like a lounge.
This was relevant as our room was small, shower and toilet not well lit, cramped and limited surface space for toiletries; although ample complementary toiletries were provided.
