Nothing luxury about this place
There are hotels who abuse the word luxury in their descriptions and unfortunately this hotel is one of them. The only positive i can pick was the quality and the comfort of the bed linen. Everything else was average including the toiletries in the bathroom which were refilled and the squeeze mechanisms didn't work as it was overused and could not squeeze the liquids. The walls were paper thin and i felt like someone was in my room talking but it was a room next door. Breakfast was something i would rather forget and not write about it. The bathroom was damaged by moisture as there was no natural ventilation and no exhaust fan. The moisture and smells sit in the bathroom, nowhere to escape.

Casa Ellul is a small gem with an excellent restaurant. The chef was able to devise an outstanding dinner for us based on our vegan requirements. The staff were extraordinarily helpful, even coming around a tea time with treats. The location is in the historic part of Valleta but is still very quiet. Recent renovations have restored the character of the building with a modern touch.

They can arrange a shuttle from the airport for you so that door-to-door access is possible. Outstanding restaurant in-house (Risette). Great staff. We absolutely loved it.

BEST Choice in Valletta
I travel solo and like to have some luxury when I travel. I also enjoy staying in the city centres and where possible and affordable I choose historic properties....if their walls could talk! Casa Ellul did not disappoint. Check in was quick and staff was very friendly and helpful especially Sladjana. I booked a room with a rooftop hot tub - what a treat to have after long days of sightseeing and walking the hilly streets! The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was divine with very personal attention provided by the servers. I appreciated the recommendation for a personal tour of Malta and Gozo - very qualified tour guide from Malta Holidays. And the transportation arrangements made to/from the airport was extremely helpful. And being right across from the Teatru Manoel during the Baroque Festival was beyond convenient. I highly recommend a stay at Casa Ellul.

I booked our trip to Malta and stay at Casa Ellul as a surprise birthday present for my wife, and for once I made the right choice! From the moment we arrived at Casa Ellul we were made to feel entirely at home by the wonderful staff. Our room was relaxing, comfortable and beautifully decorated, and the location was the perfect base for our exploration of Valletta. The thoughtful little touches such as chocolates delivered to our room every afternoon and the friendly chats with the endlessly helpful staff made our stay everything we could have wanted. We will certainly be returning to Casa Ellul on our next trip to Malta.

This is a small, centrally-located gem in the walled city of Valletta! My room featured creative details and a large bathroom, which more than made up for the interior view. The restaurant offers an ambitious (and delicious) dinner menu and an extensive breakfast. The most delightful aspect of the hotel: Alfredo, who went out of his way to help with my itinerary, free street parking, and even breakfast!

We loved this boutique hotel so much, we came back twice in the same month. The staff are friendly, efficient, and welcoming. The rooms have a lot of character while also being quite comfortable. The hotel was situated in a great place that was only a short walk from all the places of interest, without being noisy. The staff were absolutely fantastic, very friendly and helpful with nothing being to much of a problem. The room was large and clean and tidy. The only thing that was wrong was the wardrobe door didn’t fit properly and we had difficulty opening and closing it also a handle was missing on a drawer. I didn’t mention it to the staff but I’m sure if I did they would have put it right. All in all though an excellent hotel and I can thoroughly recommend it

Breakfast was beautifully served personalised excellent quality. My room number 2 quiet and specious. Aside from that there are no additional amenities however, after a whole day of exploring and walking I needed a safe, quiet, clean and peaceful place to renovate for the next day!

Casa Ellul has no lounge, the picture of the room with statue is rather misleading as it is open to the sky (can be cold in March!) We stayed in one of the rooms and also looked at their best room (on roof with jacuzzi). Our room was on 2 levels, bed on one level toilet and shower on lower level, down about 10-12 concrete stairs. There were no chairs or anywhere to sit. The room had a balcony with seating, but far too cold when we stayed in early March (it is the winter wind). The room has very little natural light and none in the bathroom. The room was grey concrete walls with small TV that did not work properly (reported twice, no-one came to fix; similarly one bedside light did not work and was not fixed). So, expensive for what you get. Breakfast, English and/or continental was good and must be ordered the night before. The staff were good especially the Italian Alfredo who was a delight. Yes, we looked at the most expensive room with Jacuzzi on the roof. On 3 levels, OK if you want to pay a exorbitant price for a jacuzzi. Otherwise the room was much the same as ours. At the weekend the prices go even higher, so we had booked the nearby, almost new, Embassy hotel which was a proper hotel. wonderful, lovely bright room and great included buffet style breakfast on the roof (both enclosed and open. We are reviewing elsewhere. No, we would not stay in Casa Ellul again. Look elsewhere. Actually the prices of Casa Ellul are on a par with the top hotel in Valletta-Phoenica!

If I could rate it higher, I would. The place is excellent, the staff really do whatever they can to make the stay pleasant and are super helpful. The breakfast is amazing and the suite with the jacuzzi is insane.

Wow - what a unique property! Incredible private terrace with spectacular view of the historic church across the street. The terrace also has a private hot tub - very enjoyable after a long day of sightseeing. The staff is very helpful and accommodating, in fact they went above and beyond to accommodate my special requests. The location is superb, a 5 to 10 minute walk to just about anything. A very nice breakfast is included each day. I highly recommend this property.

Valletta is a wonderful city to visit with lots of interesting sites. The bus service and ferries are efficient for visiting all parts of Malta including Gozo (a must visit!). Plenty of decent restaurants and you certainly will not go hungry. Weather is great but do have your insect repellent to hand!

Beautiful hotel, excellent service - The hotel is situated right downtown of Valletta and is beautiful, cozy, convenient, and blends naturally well with the old town vibe. We really enjoyed their great service which started even before we arrived (emails enquiring our needs during the upcoming stay). Our room was well maintained and spacious. Staff were friendly and always helpful with helping us plan our day trips, car rental as well as activities such as wine tasting. Food at the restaurant was delicious. Highly recommend this hotel!

Casa Ellul is a wonderful place to stay. The location could not be better, and the staff is helpful and friendly. They go out of their way to assure an excellent visit to this marvelous city. Breakfast is outstanding. The room itself is rather small, but this is after all a historic building; we had an outdoor jacuzzi on the balcony, overlooking, just feet away, the majestic church that forms such an intrinsic part of the Valletta skyline. Wi-fi was always in good working order. We were fortunate to have ten nights here, and the experience will go with us always.

Lovely hotel, we really enjoyed our stay. Room modern with some traditional features. No outside windows as the room looked on to a courtyard. Other guests could be a bit noisy in the courtyard at times. We did the wine tasting at Casa Ellul Wines and really enjoyed it. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, and we left happily with a couple of bottles of Maltese wine. Definitely no pressure to buy, but the wines were very nice.

Absolutely the best service I have ever encountered. There was nothing the staff did not do to make our stay exceptional. From complementary prosecco at check in to assisting with taxis and meals they were just great. Room was a bit different, the top three rooms where we stayed are add ons to the traditional place rooms. You get a view of the harbor but they are described as minimalist in the advertising and that is certainly correct. It takes a bit of getting used to but we did enjoy it.

We wanted a luxury hotel within easy walking distance of the main attractions in Valletta, and Casa Ellul is it. A small, family run hotel with only 8 rooms and limited space but in an excellent and quiet location in a narrow street, facing a Carmelite church, close to the Manoel Theatre and within 10 minutes walk of just about everything.
Our suite was comfortable although small, with a tiny bathroom (with an uncomfortable square bath and no separate shower), but with a nice balcony and hot tub. There are usable no public spaces apart from a compact breakfast room and bar, although a new restaurant is under construction to open later this year.
The staff were all really friendly and helpful, and made us feel very welcome.
Parking is said to be a nightmare in Valletta, but we had no problem in finding (eventually) a space near the hotel - and it's free! But we do recommend a small car.

My wife had stayed in Casa Ellul last fall with a girlfriend and they thought the hotel and staff were great that we booked the hotel when we went to Malta as part of my birthday celebrations. We were greeted at the door by the hotel staff as if we were royalty and the service and support from them continued for the five days we were in Valetta. Our room was spacious and equipped with an in-room coffee/tea service, a wide screen TV and had a comfortable seating area as well as a work table for the computer. The WIFI is fast.

It's a very nice hotel, and the staff are absolutely excellent. The rooms are much more modern than I expected, with lots of exposed concrete and industrial-looking materials, wrapped up in an old Valletta townhouse exterior. If you like that style, you'll like the hotel. The staff went out of their way to help out with a few things I needed: borrowing a phone charging cable, holding my luggage for a few hours, etc. Great location. My only quibble is that I think it's perhaps a bit more expensive than it ought to be - but then again, it is a small hotel, so they can't spread their fixed costs over as many guests.

Stayed at Casa Ellul for a couple of nights as my partner was working in Malta, so we decided to make a weekend of it. Casa Ellul is a stylish, affordable boutique hotel located centrally in Valletta, on the main street for restaurants and bars. Despite this, the hotel was very quiet and the service proved exemplary.
Only a small number of rooms (all suites) with the best rooms located on the upper floors. Some of the rooms overlook a central courtyard rather than having views over the city or of the sea; however, the rooms are beautifully decorated and designed, with all the mod cons you would realistically need (the room door locking system takes some getting used to but works most of the time).
With retrospect, I would have paid more for a rooftop suite in order to have the city views, etc. but the room we had was still lovely and I would wholeheartedly recommend Casa Ellul for a stay in Valletta.

I booked this hotel to organise a romantic dinner for my partner's birthday on the terrace. Prior to my arrival, the staff has been helpful and offered me a great service. There everything was perfect, the design of the hotel was stunning, the room unique and comfy. The view was charming and great. The dinner was absolutely delicious. This is a relatively new boutique hotel in historic Valletta. After several days at a centuries old, gorgeous palazzo hotel, this ultra modern, totally renovated hotel was a change of pace. Ideal location in Valletta old city
Valletta has a wealth of fine old buildings and interesting sites to visit. Being in the centre allows you plan your days over short distances, which helps as the City is very hilly. Can Ellul is well situated in Old Theatre Street.
Malta is well worth visiting and the people are all very friendly. There is much to see and do for a few days before the summer heat.

Our namesake, British poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, also stayed nearby, and wrote extensively about his time on the island.
