Highly recommend. This property is clean, updated and in a great location that is walkable to major attractions, restaurants and easy to get transportation. The staff is extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. Wish all our hotels were like this one!

Jessica at the front desk went above and beyond. Pinoy Street Food nearby is the bomb. It was Notte Bianca when I stayed and I could barely hear the festivities in my room.

Only complaint was the tiny shower area of the deluxe room.

No outside window made the room very dark so wouldn’t stay again. Staff were lovely and so was breakfast but no facilities and not made aware of whether we could use facilities in sister hotel. Superb location for sites and restaurants and bars though.

I recently stayed at the AX Saint John Hotel in Valletta, and it exceeded all my expectations. This beautifully modern hotel is not only well-built but also superbly insulated, ensuring a quiet and peaceful stay. The staff were incredible, offering exceptional friendliness and service. On my birthday, they surprised me with a lovely letter and a bottle of prosecco, making my stay even more special.

The bathroom was immaculate, well-lit, and regularly serviced, adding to the comfort of my stay. The hotel's unique hydration stations – available in the room, just outside, and at the entrance – were a fantastic touch, ensuring I stayed refreshed throughout my visit. The continental breakfast was delicious and super filling, providing a great start to my day.

One of the highlights was the detailed map and thorough explanation of places to visit in Valletta and across Malta provided by the staff. Their local insights were invaluable and truly enhanced my trip.

This place is fantastic. Well placed for everything. Rooms extremely comfortable ( mine was 504) had its own balcony, the only one, and was nice to sit out. Not the best views but you can see the med and several nice spires.
Staff are amazingly kind and helpful. This is not the cheapest but I feel is the best.

The hotel was lovely - small and quiet. It is a sister hotel to the AX Rosselli which covered the check in, check out and breakfast. The real stars of the stay were the staff. They were all so welcoming, professional and accommodating. Honestly, it is the top notch service which would encourage me to return.

Truly lovely hotel

I very much enjoyed this hotel. The staff is very service-forward and helpful. It's quite lovely, the rooms are well-appointed and stylishly decorated. The location is fantastic. My only complaint was that the working condition of all electronic components in the rooms should be checked out - not all of the light switches worked and sometimes the tv would not turn on. But these are really minor complaints, as I would still choose to stay here again on a future visit to Valletta.

The hotel is in a great location--very central to Valletta. The room was also clean and well laid out. However, the hotel itself didn't live up to earlier reviews and needs to address some basic issues...

When we arrived and turned on the shower for the first time, the very high-pressure showerhead sprayed straight across the bathroom so we had to use towels to mop up the water from the bathroom floor.

As others have noted, the touchpads to control lighting were often unresponsive. They are also very bright and located on both sides of the bed so we had to cover them at night to sleep.

Since Valletta was getting up to 40° C during our trip, we tried to use the thermostat to cool the room more but the room always stayed at 24° even when we set the temp at 18°. We called the front desk and an engineer came and explained that the room thermostat didn't actually change the AC settings. So why put a thermostat in the room that appears to work but doesn't actually work?

The bulb was failing on one of the three main ceiling lights during most of our stay. We decided to not bother with it but since it was quite obvious, it's not clear why their staff didn't notice it.

The hotel thoughtfully left two bottles of complimentary water the first two days we were there. So when they didn't leave any on the third day, we asked at the front desk and a manager said, \"No, the complimentary water is only for arrival, not for everyday. Would you like to buy some?\"

Very nice hotel. I was happy wirh my overall experience at the hotel but the touch pad controls for the lights were not always responsive, which could be frustrating if you were trying to turn off the lights to go to sleep. The pillows were way too soft for my liking. These issues would not keep me from returning.

This year we again booked a deluxe room however it was on the first floor at the front of the property directly above the bar. It was extremely noisy with thumping music continuing up to 12:55 am.. we were offered another room however it was a lot smaller and did not have the Maltese balcony. Very disappointing

Great stay at a very pleasant boutique hotel in the middle of Valletta. Everything was really nice with a small wrinkle on the cleaning of the bathroom one day.
Recommend buying a 6-pack of bottled water for drinking - depending on length of stay (6-pack is cheapest), as only 2 bottles were provided at check-in (first day).
Our room had a small balcony with a decent view of the city. Breakfast is included and you can choose to have a \"Full English\", or only some parts of it.
WiFi was ok, sometimes it was quite slow.

Excellent renovation of old building to make a stylish and comfortable hotel. We had a room on the fifth floor but although at the back of the hotel it had a small balcony with views. Don’t think that we would have liked a room with a window to the inner courtyard so need to choose carefully!

I highly recommend this hotel: it's very central, clean, the cozy rooms, the good breakfast as well as the wifi connection. Just one note the day of my departure I asked to wake up but they forgot and the night shift gentleman was a sleep. I had been offered breakfast before taking the taxi at 4.30 in the morning but it was not so. A minor inconvenience that changes my opinion u this wonderful hotel. which I highly recommend to everyone.

Nice hotel but needs improving

The location is great and the staff are nice however we had a few issues with the room. It didn’t seem finished as the bathroom was open glass so you could see through to the shower (not ideal as I was staying with my brother...) The hotel couldn’t change us and other rooms didn’t have that issue apparently. The bar connected to the hotel played very loud music Friday and Saturday night, well past 12:30 at night which meant it was impossible to get to sleep (although I’m not sure if this is a regular occurrence or we were just unlucky.) Overall it is a nice hotel but for the price, I expected a lot more.

A beautiful, stylish hotel with funky bar and restaurant. The reception staff were friendly and helpful on arrival and throughout our stay. The food in the restaurant is excellent and very reasonably priced. The location of the hotel is great as its in the centre of Valleta and easy to walk to all areas, yet still quiet. Id highly recommend this hotel and will certainly stay here again when we return to Malta

Centrally located and a very high standard

We stayed here for 8 days and couldn't have wished for better. Located in central Valletta it was perfect for all our sightseeing. The staff were all excellent, as was the housekeeping. The room we had was huge and the decor was very tasteful. The bus terminal was a slow ten minute walk away and the bus services are reliable, frequent and cheap so we made good use of them to travel all over the island.
We would definitely return here and recommend it to others.

Beautiful hotel but with service issues

The Saint John is a beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of Valletta. It's centrally located, making it easy to get around the city. However, there were some service issues that made our stay less than perfect. After calling to confirm we would be arriving late in the night and being told that there was an attendant available 24/7 to check us in, we were left standing outside the hotel with no one answering the door for nearly an half an hour. At 2:00 am this was quite unpleasant. After calling sister properties, finally an attendant arrived to check us in. The manager did apologize and try to make this right by offering a complimentary meal in the gastropub next door. However, after the less than quality breakfast we had there, we declined to use this meal voucher. Our room had a beautiful balcony overlooking the city with a view of the ocean; however it also let in the construction noise that woke us up at 6:30 am on a Saturday. The bed was unusually hard for a hotel and the iron didn't work. The coffee maker in the room had an excellent selection, which was nice to have each morning. The shower had great water pressure, though the temperature of the water fluctuated from scalding hot to lukewarm and leaked all over the bathroom floor. Overall, the hotel is newly renovated with great design. However, I wouldn't recommend it to others, as there were quite a number of service issues throughout our stay.

An ideal location for a short stay

This was a very welcoming and comfortable stay in the heart of Valetta. We were delighted with the space of our room as it looked exactly as pictured. The wifi was excellent and you are greeted with a large TV. If you are slightly prudish you may not feel at ease with the openness of the bathroom with its full glass partitioning and no frosting to obscure. Breakfast was at the adjoining Gastro-pub which is well catered for both full-English and continental. This is definitely a great place to have those early evening cocktails before an evening meal.

A quirky, modern boutique hotel right in the middle of the city and only 10 minutes walk from the bus drop-off from the airport. The impressive entrance is on a quiet street, and the rooms are situated around a narrow central atrium, so some have natural light only from that source. Our room was spacious and well-equipped. The hot and cold breakfast options were plentiful and well-prepared.

Gem amongst gems!

This hotel is the perfect oasis in the midst of valletta’s Gems. Tucked in a small doorway, the hotel opens up into a beautiful old villa type experience but with every modern convenience. We stayed in the family room and it is our first true family room in all of our travels. It had two rooms, one with one king bed and one with two single beds, separate bathrooms, and completely modem. Perfect location in the center of Valletta. Stay here!

Almost there with a chic boutique hotel

Boutique new conversion of a 200yr old house in ideal location (although taxis don't know where). Staff very welcoming. Some glitches caused by using old building - rm 301 has, as most old buildings in centre, enclosed balconies overlooking the street. These are old and windows don't fit (nice that they open). Street (at least in November) was surprisingly quiet of people noise as it is one of the two main central . But you will hear early morning bin men. And between 6-7pm pervading smell from all the surrounding eateries. But this wears off and doesn't really detract. Had an large bathroom/wetroom. This has not been entirely thought out - there could have been much more room for you to put wash bags etc. In fact places to put things not ideal overall (cramped coffee area, only tiny wardrobe few hangers. Rainfall shower proved too strong for drainage on day1 - leaked thru bathroom actually into bedroom. But quickly given extra towels to roll and use as a buffer and OK.
Front desk really went extra mile to find excellent restaurant booking for special occasion (good need reservations well in advance for evenings, even in November).
So why not straight excellents? - well the breakfasts (in the adjoining little bar) are disorganised and understaffed and food is only OK. This is an area they definitely need to concentrate on if they are to make this a truly boutique hotel. But overall we had a nice stay and being in central Valetta was WAY better than being in Sliema

A great little hotel.

This new hotel is in a good position in the centre of the city. It is very clean with friendly and helpful staff. I had a room at the rear, opening onto a central atrium. There was no street noise, though some noise did come up the atrium from people passing though and talking loudly. However I am an early to bed and frankly it really did not disturb my night. Excellent food and drink is available from the bistro next door, with access directly from the hotel if you want. The inclusive breakfast was typically meditteranean, with fruit and cold meats and really good bread and cakes as well as cereals etc. It set me up for the day and is not to be skimped. I would certainly book there again.

The Saint John Hotel was very nice. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Location is great for exploring Valletta. Lots to see and do within walking distance and plenty of restaurants to choose from. Would highly recommend.

Nice new hotel in central Valletta

The location of the hotel is great, the staff nice and helpful. The brrakfast could be better. Our room had no window. I think hotel should include that in the description of the room as I would never choose to book a windowless room.

very nice boutique hotel

The hotel just opened the day before we arrived and there are a lot of snagging the builder has to do but in general it is a lovely friendly hotel and we are thinking of going back there.

Overall good. Breakfast had very limited choice, but good coffee. However, during the first night at the hotel there was a water leak in the ceiling and our son's mattress and bedding was completely soaked. So around midnight he was relocated to a different room. This also kept us awake for some time with all the comings and goings. However, no discount was offered for the disturbed night. Very disappointing.

Lovely and new - a few teething problems.

A few teething problems - only to be expected as it's so new - you could not access the reception from the bar/restaurant - you had to walk around the outside - The TV froze on one picture - the light controls for the room were not working - but everyone was keen to hear what we were saying.
We are sure it will iron out these small issues very soon.
We had a room onto the inner courtyard - the noise travelled up easily - rooms on the outside of the property may have been quieter.
