The room and hotel in general were very clean, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The location was great. The cons are the rooms are very very small and the bathroom wall is all frosted glass and the door to the bathroom is a sliding glass door. So if bathroom privacy is important to you i would probably stay somewhere else.

One night in Williamsburg, the Penny is smack in the middle of it. It has lots to offer and short walk to the Brooklyn Bowl for a show. Rooftop views nice, drinks and brunch were solid. Rooms are tight (small) but perfect for single traveler. Staff was nice and helpful with post midnight dining recommendations, i.e. Kellogg Diner and food trucks down the street. Would recommend!

Great place to stay for a quick trip. Staff was friendly and efficient. There are a few things about the way the room is configured that can be improved. The door to my bathroom hit a stopper on the ceiling when halfway open and it was very surprising, loud and hurt my hand from the impact. Also if you bend over to use the sink in the main living area be careful not to hit your head on the cabinet.

Everything was great! Having a small “kitchen” area was nice for a small room. Fridge was large, coffee was great, and a sink/silverware for takeout was nice.
Staff super friendly.
Rooftop bar/restaurant was a pleasant suprise.
There is street parking available, but nearby garages are around $20 and a 5 min walk.
Only stayed one night and didn’t use the shower. .

the room was really nice. the amenities and restaurant was amazing. most of the staff was excellent but we had an experience with a female staff member who overcharged us multiple times charging us over $350 in unecassary deposits. her attitude was hostile when asking for explanations for the charges. the other staff members fixed the charges with no issue but it was inconvenient to have that issue in the first place and then be met with a slightly agressive attitude when asked to fix it. other than that experience everything was amazing and we would come back for another stay.

The front desk service was excellent! The rooftop lounge staff was so sweet and the bed the comfiest! I love that there was a microwave, mini-fridge and pour over coffee with a refillable water carafe. The room was a bit dusty, so a deep cleaning could be useful but overall would definitely recommend. Loved the daily fruit and how close it was to the L train.

Shower was amazing but you can hear everything that happens when someone is using the bathroom. It took a while to get the bedding for our fold out bed for my son but it was only a minor inconvenience. Overall, a great stay!

garage guy overcharged me $4 on a $46 fee, claimed it was because I didn't show the front desk my ticket, which was never stipulated anywhere. So I didn't give him a tip (which would have usually been at least $5)
overall friendly, clean, relaxed, funky (good) feel to the place. decor was modern/fun. indeed was dog friendly, which was my reason for choosing the hotel.

This might have been my favorite hotel stay that I can recall. Definitely my favorite in NYC. Room is small but well-equipped and felt very cozy, with beautiful light and every amenity I could want includling pourover coffee, yoga mat, fascia roller, fresh fruit, lovely water carafe with fountain in hallway. The terrace? stunning. The restaurant on the roof? Absolutely out of this world with the views and some very nice cocktails. I did not eat there, but the menu looked good. I loved it here and will come back.

When we arrived room smelled horrible...like stale bleach. Rooms are super small and not set up well. No where near enough flat surfaces. Water in shower was luke warm. There must be an issue with the water in the building or something it was that cool. The duesen duesen stuff is cool and so is the art work but the hotel is really sub par. Would not stay here again. Not worth it at all.

We had the best time at the Penny! Came for a little staycation with our cat and dog and were so pleased with choice! We read great reviews before coming and they were all true!! The customer service was excellent. Our room was cute and clean with good sunlight and nice dark curtains! We were allowed early checkin and late check out! They were so sweet to our dog and cat and the facilities are perfect! Rooftop was beautiful and pet friendly and the little dog patio is perfect for a little potty break! Will def be coming back!!

This is our second stay here, and honestly, the room itself is what keeps me coming back. It’s small but efficient, clean, and I genuinely like the Dusen Dusen design touches — it’s one of the few hotels in the area that doesn’t feel generic. That said, the amenities could use some TLC. They give you loose coffee grounds, but who knows how fresh they are, and there were only two bags of tea… both looking a little past their prime.

You can hear the highway, but it’s still quieter than staying at the Moxy on the other side of Williamsburg where the train overhead and hallway noise never let up. Since we have pets, they’ve put us in the back of the hotel both times, which definitely feels like a pattern. Parking is inconvenient and not attached to the building. And the destination fee — for what, exactly? It feels unnecessary and a little insulting, especially considering the location is just okay at best, basically under the BQE.

It's an ok hotel, although, as an european, I found it overpriced and not really a 4*. This hotel is better suited for solo (young) travellers and people who don't have a lot of expectations from a 4* hotel. The bathroom was quite small and it had a mildew smell (poor ventilation). The window was not very good and you could hear outside noise all night.

There is no sound dampening whatsoever in the rooms that have a connecting room. We were woken up by 6am by the guests next door having loud conversations and we heard every single word and cabinet that opened and closed, and every time they used the restroom. The FD should have had more insight into where they are placing guests because the connecting door really ruined our whole trip.

Dampen the audio around those doors, and I know you all have gotten this complaint prior. Please do something about it.

The Penny is such a great place to stay in Williamsburg! As first-time visitors to New York, we loved being just across the water — it offered a completely different perspective of the Big Apple while still being super convenient for getting into Manhattan.

There are plenty of fantastic places to eat nearby — we’d recommend Four Horsemen and L’Industrie Pizzeria for dinner, and Apollo Bagels for breakfast! We stayed in a Queen Room, which was the perfect size for two people. We loved the vibe and the beds were super comfy and the room was quiet. Having a fridge, sink, and kettle was really useful, and we appreciated the complimentary in-room coffee too.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to check out the rooftop bar since we were so busy exploring the city, but it looked great. The staff were friendly and helpful — we had a few questions about our bill, and they resolved everything quickly.

We did have a couple of small issues with the room upon arrival (some lights not working and the toilet door not closing properly), but it didn’t affect our stay overall and we let the staff know. We really enjoyed our time at The Penny and would happily stay again!

The Penny is the only place I stay when I visit Brooklyn. The beds are extremely comfortable, and the room is an excellent use of space.
