Check-in went very smoothly the room definitely had everything we needed. This was a staffless hotel however the Hotel staff ( James specifically )was very helpful and swift to confirm and assist with anything we needed. LOCATION was great everything we wanted to do was within a 30 min walk or less. Lots of things to eat nearby there was even a fresh market right next to the building with great breakfast options for a quick breakfast 10/10

We love the immersive experience of this hotel. We stay here every time we visit our son who lives in the neighborhood and now it feels like ours. The staff is wonderful! Some of the rooms could use some updates. It’s a really old building, so that has to be expected. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

The only issue is that when showering, the water spills out all over the bathroom floor and it was hitting the wood vanity sink and completely rotting and splintering the wood. They should come up with a better shower solution, as the shower curtain does not stop water from getting out.

I knew there was no front desk person, and I honestly didn’t know if it would matter to me. In the end I think I did miss it.
I had also seen in reviews that there is street noise, which was definitely true for my room (#1, on the 9th St side). I visited during a cold snap, so no one was out when I arrived late at night on Weds, and so there was no noise. I slept like a baby! Thursday there were a few people out partying, but the noise died down around 10-11pm and I slept fine. Friday night there was a ton of honking, yelling, loud cars that earplugs were no match for, and I didn’t sleep well. I thought the mattress was really comfortable, though my bed was quite noisy from squeaky springs.
The room was nice enough and generally clean, though there were signs that it was not brand new: scuffs on the wall, some unfinished trim around the door, etc.
Best parts of staying here were the location, the kitchen, and the gorgeous exposed brick in my room. It’s probably worth the extra money to request a room on the non-street side of the building, so I would recommend factoring that extra cost into your budget.

But the staff was very nice and if you’re ok with things that way (and we were) it’s a very good spot.

Extremely humble quarters in a vibrant location. So vibrant that the street noise was practically unbearable. The second floor windows on 1st avenue did little to attenuate the racket. (It didn't help that they were doing nighttime paving of a nearby street.)
Clearly no one from management has every tried to stay in one of these rooms.

There were so few dishes and cutlery items as to make the dishwasher pointless; you'd have to hand wash after every meal.
On the plus side, it was easy to get into the building via codes and the building felt reasonably secure.

We enjoyed the EVH. A bit of drama on our last night when the fire alarm went off at 11 pm. We hurriedly got out of bed, got dressed and headed outside. Three fire trucks arrived in short order and quickly figured out someone down the hall from us had burned their dinner. We were back in our room by 11:15, so no big deal. But we never heard from the hotel staff, which seemed odd.

Clean room, spacious for NYC and a very good deal. Great location, near Sub and Bus stations. Great neighborhood. Handy kitchenette, read Amenities carefully- do not go by the pictures. I read reviews that complained about noise-- heads up, if you want a quiet room, go to the mountains. Every place in NYC is noisy. Yes, it is noisy- bring a white noise machine or use the furnished ear plugs. Will definitely stay here again.

Amazing location, nice space with a lot of amenities for such a tiny place. That said, the room wasn't ready for us until well after check-in time. They told us about 3:20 (after a 3 check-in time) that it would be ready about 3:45, but when we got there around 4 it still wasn't ready so we hung out in the room while they cleaned around us. Frustrating, especially with an infant!

Although the hotel has no front desk, the check-in process was terrific as they sent emails and texts with information on how to gain access to the hotel and the room. Being in the East Village, the rooms are small but they have everything you need for a stay including a nicely stocked kitchenette! Daily housekeeping is available. And they even supply ear plugs (there was street traffic noise mainly during the day) so I slept soundly! Great spot if you want to be in the East Village area.

The room was clean. Just a few dents and dings on the walls. The price was great! The little kitchen was appreciated. Our room lacked a coffee maker, but there was an electric kettle. Easy walking to restaurants, shopping, and the subway. If you want to experience the east village, this is the place to stay!

Nice room - exactly what we needed. Bed was very comfortable. Kitchenette was great, perfect for breakfast or packing a picnic lunch to eat in Central Park. Location was nice -lots to do in the area and accessible to subway. We did not find it particularly loud but we were visiting from a busy city/area. We did not get a chance to test the TV as we were too busy. Would only say that it would be nice if the kitchen had a few more dishes (2 of everything). Entry into the lobby and room was very easy. Would definitely stay again and would recommend to others.

There were a few things I didn’t realize when booking, they weren’t deal breakers but I wish I had known prior to booking (tbf I might have missed it). It’s a 4th floor walk up, I was on the 3rd floor but rooms are assigned at random. It’s a staff-less hotel so the check in process is to send a door code at ck in time-3p. By 10 after I hadn’t received instructions but they were emailed after I texted. When I travel by myself, this process always makes me concerned bc I don’t know how many people have the code from before me, but I brought some safety devices with me and it was fine. The front door code is sent as well but the front door was unlocked during my whole trip (again, staying by myself, I didn’t love that).
All of that would have been fine but the room was Very lightly cleaned. Luckily I travel with alcohol wipes so I was able to clean all the surfaces, and with not much effort at all the wipes came back dirty on almost all major surfaces. There was a dried contact on the floor by the bed that I could just pick up off the floor with a tissue & a package string on the floor of the bathroom so the floor wasn’t cleaned at all in between stays. There are a couple of convenience stores on the corners where I was able to get water, coffee & cheap ‘hotel socks’ because I really didn’t want to walk barefoot on the floor, even in my socks. I have never wished I packed slippers so much & couldn’t find them anywhere around the hotel.

It was confusing at first as I had not received the check in email and there is no front desk but very responsive when I called. The room and bed were very comfortable. Street noise but ear pluges provided was a nice touch. Great stay all in all.

We enjoyed our stay at EVH. It was close to our son’s apartment as well as the subway and great restaurants. The area was totally safe and the staff we did see were very friendly. My stay at the East Village Hotel was excellent - the room was quaint and very clean. If you want an experience in the Village of NYC, then the location cannot be beat.
The only negative I have is that if you want to store your luggage on the day of checkout, you either have to pay extra for a late check out or transport your luggage to another hotel ~ 1-1.5 miles away. This made for a tedious last day of my trip as it was raining and the other location was in the opposite direction of where I needed to be.

The hotel was able to meet my request for a lower-floor room. The amenities in the room were fine, and the surroundings were relatively quiet. I had some trouble with the mini fridge. First I couldn’t get the door to stay shut, then after I got that worked out, it froze my foods.

I was hesitant about staying at a \"no staff\" hotel but it turned out there were minimal problems. I booked the early option ($30) but had to call to get the necessary codes for my Noon early checkin. Other than that, there were no problems. The staff (on the phone) were very nice. I entered the hotel off of 9th Street and it seemed a little questionable on the outside, but inside, everything was fine. My room on the 3rd floor was one of the nicest rooms I have stayed in during my many travels. There was a kitchenette with stove top, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher and dishes. The bed was very comfortable. I will stay here again. The only other issue is that they cannot store luggage - you have to take it to the Chelsea Pines Hotel, which is further away.

This is a no-contact hotel, so no reception desk, keys, etc. The room was clean, modern, and had good air conditioning. My room was on the 4th floor (no elevator), so I got my steps in. The primary downside was noise from 1st Avenue, though the property provided earplugs. I would consider staying there again.

Really enjoyed our stay here! Simple and small (like most rooms in NY) but had everything we needed and was in an amazing location. Bed might be a bit tight for two people but it’s comfy. The little kitchenette is a nice touch. Surprisingly super quiet for being right in the middle of the East Village as well. It’s a walk up with no elevator but if you don’t mind that, it’s a great place to be.
