There were a few stains on the bedsheets and only 1 water bottle was provided on the first night for two guests. Most hotels refill the water each day. The check in time was 3pm and too busy for anything earlier which was quite exhausting. Again, most hotels I’ve stayed at are flexible in this regard.

When checking in, the staff did not explain what facilities were available in the hotel e.g. a gym etc. I booked specifically as there was a Terrace but never got to visit as the staff did not mention upon arrival and I forgot about it. The breakfast was nice, quite standard. The bed was comfortable and close to the Metro station.

Very quiet , great location

Really enjoyable stay! Lovely hotel and very well located. Very quiet (apart from occasionally hearing pipework but it didn’t disturb sleep at all… and this is coming from a very sensitive sleeper!). Rooms were immaculate and staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We had a coffee maker in the room which was lovely. Would definitely stay here again.

Hotel itself was nice and clean. I had a negative experience when it came to breakfast. I was mislead to believe that breakfast was included, as the room card I was given stated that it was included. On the first morning, I specifically asked if breakfast was included, and there no issues. On the second day, when I went to go get breakfast the person and front desk said it was not and that they made a mistake the day before, but still charged me for it. I would have rather they be honest than being sneaky and misleading.

I had a wonderful stay at the NH Balboa. The hotel is beautiful decorated, the rooms are spacious and has a modern furnish. My room was incredible with the very large terrace. I was also traveling with my dog and this hotel is very dog friendly. Upon check-in I was able to access my room a bit earlier than the require check in time which made it easier to relax after a long flight from San Francisco. The bathroom amenities are great as well —fabulous shower head and some of the best bathroom lighting for a hotel. As a female, this is something that we love as it makes applying our make up easier!

Nice stay but...

Had to wait over an hour for the room to be ready (after specified check-in time). Despite the delay, as soon as we got into the room, we saw a hair in the shower.

Do not stay here

This is the worst hotel service I have stayed in, the bar they wouldn’t allow me to sit outside as they said it was reserved. There was 15 available tables, 2 hours later I return and the same only one couple outside and they still said it was reserved. The aircon doesn’t work in the room and it was SO warm that I couldn’t sleep. The lady at reception was nice she just couldn’t do anything unfortunately

Pleasant stay with a delicious breakfast

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. It was close to public transport and easy to access from the airport. The room was a decent size and was very comfortable. We opted to have the daily breakfast and what a great choice!!! The breakfast array was as varied as it was delicious. It was a very pleasant stay.

The restaurant is situated in the hotel but is run by a separate company, book a table it is unbelievably busy because the food is excellent and the prices are very very reasonable.

Hotel average but excellent restaurant.

The hotel was average but wasn't as good as other 4* hotels I have use in Spain. The room was very stuffy as the air conditioning was turned off, this was the decision of the management, they decided that as it was cold outside air conditioning was not necessary in the rooms . Although the bed was comfortable it was impossible to get a good night's sleep because the lack of air-conditioning.
One positive for the hotel was the restaurant, where had a very good choice of variable food to suit everyones taste for breakfast Also the evening menu was excellent again with a varied choice of dishes of three courses at a very reasonable price.

Excellent hotel, less professional staff

Our stay at the hotel started off well. The rooms are very nicely decorated, clean and luminous. The next morning, the waiter at the breakfast area was unpleasant, arrogantly answering customers (and us) about simple questions such as how to use the coffee machine. We were expecting a guest for breakfast on that day and had asked the staff at the lobby if it was ok. They nicely answered that there was no problem but that the breakfast would be an extra charge, which we totally understood. However, once at the breakfast, that same waiter told us that our guest was not allowed here and that we should have noticed the main desk (which we had done). Overall, it is a shame that such a good hotel employs so unprofessional staff.

The NH Balboa was extremely clean and very well managed. The terrace of my room had an amazing view as well. Breakfast was also top notch, particularly one of the best tortillas españolas i've ever had.

Clean, renovated room, but small

It is not the first time to stay in this hotel. Always nice, clean and satisfying, but only this time the room on the first floor was small and dark, if you open the curtain, you can see maintenance stairs and totally visible from the stairs if someone uses. So I had to keep the curtain closed all the time, which made the room dark. Another negative point was that there was no safety box in my room... Usually it is equipped with the other rooms that I have stayed in this hotel. Also the noise from internal stairs woke me up in the early morning. I have a feeling that this room was originally made for hotel staffs?? It was only for a night before leaving Madrid, so it was ok for me, but I wouldn't stay in the same room for more than two nights. The hotel staffs were very efficient and flexible. I arrived at 10am and they let me check-in even it was before 3pm. (maybe that is why I got this room...the only available room at that time.) Nonetheless, I always recommend this hotel to friends, so I had a bad luck only this time.

Staying at the NH Balboa Madrid

We understand the hotel was recently refurbished and certainly has a clean modern look. Our room was spacious and clean. The hotel is in the Salamanca area of Madrid but not on a main road, but a reasonably quiet street; the double glazing must be good as there was a massive electrical storm one night and we didn't hear it at all!
There is a bar and restaurant, which seemed to be popular with both guests and locals, and was reasonably priced.

4 Night Stay in Madrid

The hotel was very nice as was the staff. Our room was nice and big, but if you're in town visiting the sites, there was nothing close by but office buildings and apartments. We didn't have the breakfast because it was almost 19 euros and we had just come from another NH in Valencia where they offered us breakfast for less than 11 euros. We did find a Subway about a 5 minute walk away and a Starbucks about 10 minutes where we were able to eat breakfast. We took a taxi to Puerta del Sol where we bought a 2 day ticket on the hop on and off bus and found that Route 2 left us about a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel which worked out for us. The hotel did offer a 3 course meal at their restaurant every night for 12.9 euros which was very delicious and we ended up eating there every night and being able to choose from different options which were all delicious and made it very convenient after being out walking around visiting the city all day.

Mala atención, buen hotel.

El hotel en si, nos gustó mucho, pero el personal nos pareció muy deficiente. Primeramente, en recepción la atención fue muy poco cordial. Es la primera vez que nos pasa en un Hotel NH.
Y nuestra experiencia en el desayuno también fue lamentable. El servicio muy deficiente e inoperante, solicitamos pan sin gluten y unos huevos que nunca nos los trajeron, y mi esposa tuvo que salir sin desayunar más que un café!
Deben mejorar la selección de personal. Eso da mala imagen a un hotel de esa categoría.
