My husband and I enjoyed our week stay here. The food was good, nightly buffett had many different choices. Made reservations for steakhouse, it was good, service was excellent. Japanese restaurant was sushi bar and buffett, it was so so. Entertainment was great, especially the MJ show. There were too many people for our comfort. They must have had a great special after the hurricane to get people to come to Jamaica. We did not have an ocean view room due to late booking. Rooms were clean and cool. They definitely need more shade on the beach.I think more people would have been able to stay out longer if they had huts or more shade trees. I had to wake early to reserve my chairs by a tree as my husband burns easy. We did not enter any of the pools due the amount of people in and around them, and I did not want to end up w an infection. The drinks were pretty great! The Best Pina Coladas! Overall, it was a great relaxing trip.

The check in process was lengthy and very chaotic. There was no air conditioning in the front desk area which compounded on the discomfort. The rooms are average but clean. Food is also average and I found it repetitive even with a four night stay. The staff was kind and professional.
Overall, you get what you paid for. I found it a good value for the price I paid.

We had a bless my husband and I in Rio Montego Bay for 9 days. We extended our stay due to snow storm. The resort was comprehensive and gave us some discount due to this unexpected last minute extension.
Love the staff all friendly and very talented. Fun activities and parties you will never be bored at this resort and good food. No regrets. I miss it already. Shot out to all staff ❤️

The room was sufficient and clean. The housekeeper was efficient. The view was very good. The staff in the dinning ares (Samantha) was very attentive and friendly, NOT pushy. Genuinely concerned about any needs I might have. I wound recommend this place for fun. Overall the resort is nice with lots of activities for adults of all ages.

We really enjoyed the pools, beach and the food! We did have a couple of issues with our room that they addressed fairly promptly. We were only able to get reservations at specialty restaurants for 2 nights out of four, because they were full. Would recommend trying to book restaurants before your trip. There were approximately 8 to 10 Jamaican men on small boats trying to sell drugs all along the beachfront. It detracted from the beauty of the beach and it was annoying when they kept trying to get your attention. Marijuana smell everywhere. The room was nice and spacious. They had one really good dance show but the others were not that great. The food was really good overall!!

BED BUGS!!! I stayed at the RIU Montego Bay Resort from February 16 through February 20, 2026, in room number 2208.

The food was not good (with the exception of the jerk chicken served near the pool, each day). Additionally, throughout my stay, I experienced ongoing issues with the television in my room. I contacted the front desk multiple times and there was never a resolution. Unfortunately, I have sleep challenges, and I rely on the white-noise factor from the television to get to sleep. Therefore, this was problematic to my rest.

More concerning, however, is the issue that I discovered the day of my departure. During my commute to the MBJ airport, I began noticing bite marks on my skin, and it quickly became evident that I was exposed to bedbugs during my stay. I submitted a formal complaint, but I’m still awaiting a response from the RIU.

I would NOT recommend staying here.

First and foremost I will never use Expedia again. Once I booked and paid for my mother’s and I trip I though everything was perfect just had to pack and get ready to leave (we booked approximately 2 months out) it wasn’t until my mom called to figure out our transportation 3 days before the trip, to and from the airport that we realized I had fat fingered the zip code on the credit card and reservation never went through still gave me updates on when I was leaving etc. My wonderful mother got it all sorted but will never use them again.

Positives of the resort:

Super friendly event staff!
Sufficient Beach lounge chairs!
Buffet was good if you got there in time.
The pours for their drinks were wonderful.
Bar staff very friendly.
Room was close to the beach.
Great bar in room.
When you something additional (towels etc.) the staff brought it right away.

Negatives:
If you did not get to the buffet within the first hour of it opening, you were going to get a good selection of food.
It was nearly impossible to get a reservation at the restaurants, we did get one but it was at 8:30 which is too late to eat, so never got to experience them.
The hotel is extremely loud, if you want to take a nap during the day, you won’t be able to as the cleaning/other staff yell to one another all day starting around 6:30am.
Our toilet ran about every 15-20 mins too which was somewhat loud.
I had a huge rip in the blanket provided.
Beds/pillows were extremely uncomfortable and hard.

Staff friendly and accommodating. I had an issue with the AC that was not fixed but it was not to hard to work around it. I had no control over the temperature and had to turn off the AC at night, they came to fix it when I was out of the room but all they did was turn it off. The room was clean and I had no issues other than that?

I had a really good time here. The water is beautiful, right on the beach. there’s multiple pools! I would recommend. The staff are great and engage a lot. They like to party and uplift the environment. It is mostly outdoors so one thing to note IF YOU GET OCEAN VIEW room is you’ll be walking a mildly far distance from the lobby area. My only complaint would be the wait during check in, it’s pretty long and very busy. Also, i think since the buildings are so far and outdoors like an apartment complex, they should have workers around each area to help with people checking in and trying to find their building. Also make restaurant reservations before you get there! steakhouse wasn’t available my entire stay. Overall, I would stay again.

My staff was amazing , the customer service desk, my housekeeping, and the personal massage therapist all were very professional. My only complaint was the lack of coffee available. All the liquor you want, but coffee was difficult. I believe housekeeping should be in charge of place in the coffee in the rooms versus having to wait for the bar, which is every two days they do a refill and coffee should be in that room every single morning, so if it’s late and you wanna cup of coffee, you have to walk across the resort which is not realistic

Our stay absolutely exceeded our expectations! We were a little nervous since it was our first time at a RIU, and some YouTube reviews had us thinking it might feel uncomfortably crowded. But once we arrived, those worries disappeared. Yes, it’s a lively resort with plenty of guests, but there were always open loungers, whether we wanted to relax by the pool or on the beach.
The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. Every staff member we interacted with was genuinely kind, personable, and eager to help. The food options were plentiful, and everything we tried was delicious.
The entertainment team is truly the heart of the resort—so talented, energetic, and engaging. You will not get bored here. They take the time to get to know guests, and it really adds a personal touch. My favorite was “Mosquito”—she was an absolute joy! Every time we crossed paths, she greeted me by name and made me feel so welcome.
We also booked excursions, including an incredible scuba experience that was absolutely worth it. We had an amazing time and would definitely recommend this resort to anyone looking for a fun, memorable getaway.

I am extremely disappointed in the way this hotel handled what was clearly an extraordinary circumstance. During a severe winter storm, many guests—including myself—made the responsible and safety-conscious decision to leave early due to hazardous travel conditions across multiple states. Rather than showing any level of understanding or basic customer care, I was told that I “did not leave early” and that no credit could be issued.

That response is not only inaccurate, it is unacceptable. When weather emergencies impact travel on a regional level, hospitality should mean more than reciting rigid policy. It should involve listening to guests, reviewing the situation with fairness, and demonstrating empathy. Instead, I was met with dismissiveness and zero flexibility.

Customer service is measured by how you treat people when situations are outside of their control. In this case, the hotel failed completely. To deny consideration during a documented winter storm—and to do so while other guests were also leaving for the same reason—shows a lack of professionalism and care.

I expected far better. This experience has ensured I will not return, and I would strongly encourage management to reevaluate how they support guests during emergency situations.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating and I loved how they had shuttle services right at the front entrance. The food was tasty as well. All in all I had a very pleasant stay. My only complaints are room service took a little while to get to my room and clean it and the pillows needed to be changed out more often as there was a pillow on my bed that didn’t smell good at all.

Second room ok. 1st was dark and somewhat dated. Majority of staff were fine.
Health and safety an issue. Power falure left my friends stuck in a lift for 45 minutes. Very distressing and poorly handled by senior management . Support manager eventually listened and raised formal complaint . Beach area disappointing. Cramped and unable to walk any distance by the sea. The smell of ganga constantly around without a thought for other guests.
Food in Rose Hall ok but had to thoroughly check that hot food was still ok to eat.
Generally noisy throughout the day and evening. My friends and i booked late and perhaps didn't interegnate previous guest comments . Wouldn't stay again or recommend. Sorry, it doesn't meet a 4* rating from my experience.

From check in to check out was absolutely amazing. The staff was friendly, our room was great… Annieka made sure our room stayed clean and orderly. Melissa, Brian, and Rollie from the party crew were my favorite. Our server at dinner whose name I cannot remember was super sweet and knew exactly what we were drinking each night. Nickesha at the bar by the pool made the best drinks. RIU Montego Bay will definitely be seeing us again!

The room was lovely and the staff were friendly and accommodating. I spent some time at the spa which was very relaxing and offered a number of different treatments. The food overall was good. Some dishes, especially in a few of the specialty restaurants were rather salty.
Pepe's jerk chicken was amazing. If you don't get there before 1:30 pm, the hot sides like the rice and peas, festival will be gone and staff seem to take a long time to replenish them.

The beach was nice but it would be great if they used the tractor to remove seaweed either in the early morning or late afternoon hours. The tractor was out for at least 3 hours mid afternoon and although the driver was careful, it was a bit chaotic at times getting in and out of the water.

The entertainment was good and the team, especially \"Mosquita\" does a great job to keep people entertained.
