We recently stayed at Intercontinental in Buenas Aires and it was spectacular, 5 star. Expecting a somewhat similar stay, but Santiago has not been maintained with dirty carpets, chipped paint and marble, torn shears, wallpaper ripped, a bed of dirt where plants once were in the lobby, etc. It needs updating or management that cares. Very disappointed!

On arrival, we were informed that the room was not yet available. In the end we finally got into it after 5pm. The first night's sleep was fitful due to the AC not operating properly. Despite servicing the next morning, the same problem occurred the second night. In the middle of that night we were offered a temporary room to sleep in and then finally relocated to another for the third and final. night. Front line staff were sympathetic but not empowered to fix the problem. Otherwise, should note some staff that were helpful: Valentina in the business lounge, the travel concierge and the gym attendant. The business lounge refreshments both morning and evening are nicely done but the rooms in that tower are not as current as the new tower. Breakfast service in the new/main tower is uneven as is the quality. Nice quiet pool on the top of the main tower (- just above the gym). Hotel is located nearby a very large mall and a variety of restaurants though distant from the historical downtown.

Great Executive Lounge!! Comfortable beds and quiet rooms. Staff does not seem interested in the clients. This seems to be a hotel for tour groups. Service in the Executive Lounge is very nice but outside that environment, I was treated like on of ‘the herd’ very impersonal. Too bad

I booked for two nights and both days was not able to take shower because there was no hot water, the staff at the hotel was terrible never received a responde about the water temperature issue and decided to leave, the manager at the hotel offered an upgrade for my next stay.

I will never stay in that hotel.

This hotel is a disaster, in your website it didn’t say that the hotel is under renovation, I paid for king size room and it was too noisy because the renovation, I requested to change my room and what I got it’s a 2 single beds room and that was unacceptable, I paid for king size bed room, and the new room was noisy too, I could hear what’s going on next door specially if my neighbor takes a shower, for an almost usd300 per night in average, the hotel put me in the old tower. Another thing on the 2nd night

I’m a gold member of yours and That didn’t help so much, what I got is free bearkfast and the hotel offered me to change the last night the room but it was too late for me, I won’t ever stay here again, I have to recognize that at least I got a late check out until 2pm

Worst experience in last 5 years

The hotel was very unprofessional. They don't understand what are required for hospitality industry. From check-in to check-out and luggage claim, they did it all wrong. I was literally shocked that Intercontinental brand could be this bad. Not recommending this hotel at all.

our stay was terrible. they have three towers. one is completely run down, dirty. signs all over the place that thy want to renovate. carpets were so dirty that even massive amount of air freshener they were pumping in the air through( that is what I believe they were doing as air freshener smell was unbearable) air conditioning could not take the smell away. I had to fight with the hotel managers to finally change our room to another tower.

Terrible experience, try to avoid.

Was placed in a hotel room in the back tower. By far the worst hotel room I have ever been placed in and i travel alot for work. It was old, the walls were filthy, carpet was filthy, Bathroom hadn't been updated in what looked like 30 years, there was grout missing in between the tiles. The mattress was sagging, and uncomfortable. The chair for the desk had stains all over it and there were hairs on the bed, there was also a faint mould smell lingering in the air. There was also construction going on during the day which made it very loud in the room at times. When I complained I was forced to pay 100 USD to upgrade to a newer room.

This was a terrible experience, this hotel should have a warning that there are rooms of this condition there and that there is construction going on. I have been in university dorms that were better.

Great area; rooms need some TLC.

Lobby was beautiful - but the room was in desperate need of a renovation. Bathroom especially - mold on the ceiling, caulking along the tub was stained pink/red. Carpet looked stained and as though carpet powder had recently been shaken over parts of it. Room was simply tired looking with wallpaper that was overused in areas and dirty. I was only there one night so not enough for me to request a room change. I heard that the tower I was in had rooms that were not yet renovated but definitely not the InterContinental Hotel experience that I'm used to. The concierge team was quite friendly but the check in person was less so.

Unpleasant experience

The hotel is nice, however during my stay there was ongoing refurbishment of the third floor and huge noise between 09:00 and 18:30.
The hotel gests were not advised regarding the ongoing repair and had to support that.
Some of the receptionist need to be more tolerant to the guests regarding the complains and to offer solutions, instead of being rude.
Personally I will avoid this hotel in the future.

really loud rooms, it sounded almost as if the windows were open. The security lock on my room was broken. The air conditioning would randomly stop working and it would get hot in my room. The carpet looked stained and aged, definitely not one of the nicer Intercontinental I've stayed at. I felt more like I was staying at a Motel. There was also no key card needed to access any of the floors or into the hotel-so at night if you weren't a guest you could have access to any room. Other than that, the hotel is in a good, safe location, and the staff is really friendly.

Nice Hotel-- Small Issues

While this hotel was very nice in terms of the room and staff, there was some construction going on outside of the rooms at all hours (sounding like pipes screeching down a chalk board). We also had issues with every room service order we placed, as there was something missing or incorrect each time.

The staff was professional. Helped with getting early into our rooms and arranged for late check out.

The gift shop is great! Buy any gifts there as it is cheaper and friendlier than anywhere I found in the city!!

Had a slight problem with plumbing but the staff came and solved it quickly. Even offered a new room if needed.

THE EXECUTIVE TOWER MUCH BETTER. HORRIBLE STAFF...

The main hotel is old and not well maintained.
I ended up at their executive tower which is just next to the mail hotel and the room was very nice.
The reception and checkin experience was horrible.
I had to carry my bags to the next tower while half the the staff saw me struggle, no one was interested on helping.
The key did not work so I had to come down to replace it however the person in charge had left and had to wait for 15 mins to get it done.
You would say that the old infrastructure would be compensated by friendly and helpful staff, unfortunately not the case.

Expensive for a great hotel - this is poor hotel

Hotel is not near anything for tourists, but hotels.com relocated me here anyway. Could not find transportation, nothing to eat within 5 kilometers unless you like to eat dinner at 5pm. Supposedly I got an \"upgrade \" to a 10 sq meter box. I wonder how small the room would have been without the \"upgrade\"? Area is extremely dangerous at night. Taxi driver took me to even worse neighborhood from hotel and made me get out with suitcases. I was in the process of being mugged but a passer by called the police. Breakfast was picked over and not restocked. Put me in substandard eating area.

A total scam !!

This hotel is a scam, I'll explain why: the hotel has a another tower building behind the main building, they send guests to the tower located behind the building we can see in the pic. The moment the elevator door opens, it seems we are in a 2 stars hotel, it gets worse once you arrive in your assigned room, its old, we hear the noise of toilet flushing from rooms above, mold, strong smell of wet carpet, overall not intercontinental standards !!
Make sure they place you at the main tower, it's renovated, after a serious argument they gave me a room in the main tower, but they wanted to charge me 70 US dollars more, saying it was an upgrade!! I said that for the amount of money I paid, those rooms in the back tower was a little better than a Motel 6. I was transferred to the main tower after a lot of stress !!
They didn't want to do it !!!
I recommend to be away from this hotel in Santiago !! A total scam !!

Had to wait for room 40 Minutes after Check In

Hi Guys,

I had to wait for 40 minutes after the 3:00pm check in time. I explained that I was coming from Canada (18+ hour flight) but the staff at the front desk did not event bother to offer me at least a bottle of water for the situation.. I was only given de wifi code (after I asked for it). Further to this, I asked for a complementary \"anything\" and they just said NO.

It is important to mention that I arrived at 1:50pm at the hotel... The front desk people told me that I needed to pay $50USD per night (5 nights) I wanted a room to be ready for me... Very disappointing.

I felt like the hotel staff did not value my booking... If you want me to put this in a formal document (company's letterhead) I would be more than glad to.

Make sure not to book standard room

The standard room is in the back of the hotel with complicated access to that building... I had to pay additional in order to stay in the main building...
Housekeeping didn't make my room after my first night there. when i got back to the hotel at the end of the day I realized that my room had not been made so I called front desk to at least get fresh towels, which I never got...
The service in this hotel is below average...
Breakfast is good and rooms in front buildings are good as well.

FANTASTIC experience at The Intercontinental

This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. The concierge service, as well as the front desk staff were absolutely EXCELLENT. Best location in Santiago for either business or vacation. My wife and I are still talking about how helpful the staff was.

We had a pleasant stay in spite of the remodeling. The next day we explained that our flight home would be later in the day, we asked if we could leave suitcases there, they agreed. We returned from lunch and shopping, we sat in the lobby. Soon a staff member started circling around us; he finally asked us what or why we're we sitting in the lobby-we explained and left soon after, that is what he Wanted, for us to leave. We've travelled abroad numerous times, isn't it standard to sit and make time in the lobby? We had made use of their dinning facilities and bar.

Hotel is getting tired, would have been great a few years ago, but rooms are dated and needing updated and some fittings replaced (I had a 10cm hole above the bed where a down-lighter used to be). Air conditioning not effective in room.

WiFi is charged, either by day or hour!!!

Reception very slow at checking in and checking out.

This hotel is situated a long way from the city centre. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, but recommend getting a taxi to Barrio/Patio Bellavista or Barrio Lastarria. There are none of the main tourist attractions nearby.

The lobby is beautiful in this hotel, the room is nice, but could do with some repairs. The air-conditioning was not great, had to open the windows to stay cool, the door frames were all split and sharp bits of wood were present because of this. I stayed on the 10th floor, food was nice, bed was comfy, but would recommend other hotels for the same price.

I was really surprised about the quality of the room, especially for the price. Everything was old and looked like it had been used for a long time. The bed was very comfy, especially the pillows. The air conditioner did not work. Only the room heater. We finally turned off the heating/air system and opened the windows. Grateful that we could do that. Getting ice was delayed somewhat. Very helpful in obtaining our boarding passes.

It was a lovely stay for 3 days in Santiago.

Very comfortable at great price

I recently stayed at the hotel for 5 nights. The room was large and well appointed. I thought the bed was particularly comfortable. terrific sheets and wonderful down pillows, lot of them. the location is perfect for someone going for business as it is in the middle of everything. I also discovered that the best Sushi restaurant in Santiago is in the hotel. Do not miss it- beautiful and delicious.

A couple of tricks. they charge $10 per day for internet, but if you become a member of their club, for free, it is free. good deal. the gym is perfectly adequate as well. My one complaint is that in the restaurant they only serve a $30 breakfast buffet. they should offer a regular breakfast menu as well to accommodate lighter eaters.

Bu all in all, first rate.

Big rooms & Great salads

Service and standards seemed to have dropped since last time I stayed. Check in staff and concierge were very good. I still like the big rooms, and the two restaurants are pretty good. Room service salads were delicious. However, the showers leak water all over the bathroom floor, the toilets don't flush too well, and the housekeeping was not up to scratch. I found a dirty floor rag left in my room and products were not re-stocked in bathroom. Food at breakfast buffet was also not re-placed/refreshed efficiently. I came for breakfast at 9am and there wasn't much there.

Outdated rooms, bathrooms and beds.

The lobby of the hotel is impressive and the front desk folks are ok, they also have a nice restaurant which is pricey--all this is completely different from the rooms. The furniture in the rooms are old; the beds are at least 10 years old and sagging--very unconfortable; the bathrooms are also very old and has not been updated for many years; the towels available in the bathrooms are beyond its life. Having said that, the house keepers do a good job keeping the place clean. The issue here is that management or owners are not investing to keep the place up to date. Just to be clear, I've been traveling to Santiago for the last 10 years and use to stay at this hotel until one day five years ago when they ran out of hot water at 8 am. For this trip I decided to try it again as a but but again, what a disapointment.

Older tower is showing wear and tea

Newer side is very nice and up to date but the older tower is showing some wear and tear. I had issues with the WiFi network and could barely get a signal but the front desk was kind enough to remove it from my bill. The staff is very professional and I was asked multiple times if I was enjoying my stay or if they could do anything to make it better.
