Very disappointing experience — especially compared to our stay in December.

Upon arrival, we were told our reserved room was only available for three nights and that we would need to move for one. We declined. We were then offered a much smaller, dated room instead. After two hours of discussion, we were finally given the exact room category we had originally booked — and stayed in previously. No apology, no accountability.

Staff repeatedly insisted the duplex we reserved was smaller than the duplex with a view. Expedia screenshot description clearly shows otherwise — it is actually slightly larger. The Expedia agent did not resolve the issue; we did, by providing screenshots and prior booking details and photos.

Basic standards were also lacking: non-working TV remote, no hairdryer (and the replacement didn’t work), and a non-functioning phone. By the time we were settled, the pool was closed for a private event — first day wasted.

If not for the larger room layouts compared to the Sofitel building, we would not return. Despite being positioned as a sister property, this feels more like an annex. All positives — pool, food, staff — belong to Sofitel.

In short: not acknowledged as returning guests and treated as though booking details were negotiable. Very disappointing.

Stunning and Fun for the Whole Family

This is one of the best breakfast in the world. A combination of local food with fresh french pastries, local juices and very diverse and delicious fruit collection.
The setting in the old city and the service is spectacular snd very friendly.

The duplex rooms were a bit dusty given the high ceilings. I think they can easily fix this.
We will definitely come back.

It’s a nice hotel. The picture is misleading as you are staying at the hotel but all amenities like breakfast, gym, pool and restaurant are all at the main property, Santa Clara. This was fine as it is only 1 min away from Bovedas. I like both property , very friendly staff, good service.

This place tries to scam you

This place is nice enough if you get the right room. Or if you just get the room you booked. We booked the large family suite with two beds a sofa bed and two bathrooms on the top floor with a view of the ocean. It says so on the confirmation. We Never saw it. When we checked in the were polite and welcoming and escorted us to the worst room on the basement level and said ‘enjoy your stay’. So obviously we walked right back to reception and after some time and a manager they said oh, we are over booked. Wait…now that I’ve said something you admit you knew you gave me not only the wrong room but made no mention of the shift until the bellman took us to our room. Furious. So they could only give us two different rooms for the first night then moved us to the ‘correct room the next day, after 3pm’. Ok we were tired from traveling and we had a morning planned so settled but was promised a credit for the inferior room and the clearly different price not to mention the hassle and con game we were subjected to. Ok. So next day. ‘The room is ready’ we get our keys and we go check it out. A better room. Great view. Two bathrooms. But still only one bed and a sofa bed. It’s not what we reserves or paid for ! They were just so inconsiderate

The location overlooking the historic Walls and the Caribbean Sea and the barrio San Diego area is beautiful. The staff was incredibly helpful and allowed early check-in… the customer service was above and beyond.. the restaurant was excellent in the room was huge with a large balcony..Cristian and Luis were very helpful at all times. I stayed at three other hotels in Cartagena in the last three months and this hotel was the best compared to the Hyatt Regency in Boca grande and the Bastion Luxury hotel in Candalaria area.

This property is beautiful. Extremely clean!!!! I loved my stay here. It is very walkable, but not so close to the action that you are annoyed by noise. The breakfast is amazing. I am EXTREMELY picky, and I loved this place.

My only dislike is that in the loft, upstairs is hot at night.

Yes, the I installation is impeccable & beautiful and Cartagena is beyond magical but it’s the AMAZING staff of Santa Clara that makes this the most amazing location in the world (to me). The list of outstanding individuals is too lengthy so only some of the perfect staff : Jimmy (el mejor botones del mundo), Adris, Adi, Jose (both), Alexander, Alexandre, Yurainis, Séñor Herrera (main entrance), Jose (both) , Andres (customer service), Luis, María José (jefe), Jesús (maître) and many more!

Outstanding, above and beyond...

This little hotel was even more beautiful than I was expecting. And the staff, just wow! This boutique hotel, and the larger, gorgeous Santa Clara, are linked. They are one block from each other, and the stroll is so dreamy. The Santa Clara shares the gorgeous pool, the fitness center, room service and breakfast with the boutique Bovedas hotel.

We got the Family Suite: 2 Bedrooms, Ocean View. The doors and windows to the balcony were soundproof, so we didn’t really hear any traffic. We LOVED this room! Downstairs was a kitchen, living room, queen bedroom/bathroom combo. Very spacious. The beds/bedding were very comfortable. There were fresh flowers waiting for us. Hardwood floors dressed the stairs and the loft. There was a sitting room with a king size bed and a 2nd bathroom with separate sink. With tapestries on the walls, and a shiplap style ceiling, it was beautifully designed. The AC worked very well. No humidity. We loved how it smelled in the rooms. So fresh.

What made this hotel so exceptional was the staff. Eric, Cristian, Adris, Ronal, Jose were outstanding. They helped us with anything we needed: excursions, taxi, carriage ride, dinner reservations.

One night, they invited us to a private party at the Santa Clara with drinks and apps. We also got to explore the history of the grand hotel. They even had a birthday celebration waiting for me when I came back from a day of sightseeing. They truly understand not just customer service but customer experience.

It’s not as advertised. No facilities at all in el hotel. They show you pictures of the Sofitel and it’s next to the Bovedas
No restaurant, no room service, no cafe. Only rooms. I stated in the suites and it was underground. No view, nothing. It’s like staying in a cell. Even the phone don’t work in the room because you need to go down a few steps to find the room. For the price I paid 260 Canadian dollars a night it’s a real scam. A lot of nice hôtels in the city with all the facilities and with better location and facilities and less expensive

The receptionists went above and beyond, and main hotel Sofitel always very clean and beautiful.
Only few observations as constructive criticism.
The balcony door lock was broken, I noticed this on my second night.
At the pool there was a family with a baby with a disposal diaper. I found this very unsanitary, the family should it be instructed the baby wearing a pool diaper.

Located at a great location (Walled City), which was walking distance to many tourist sites, restaurants, street vendors, gelato shops, etc. Very close to the airport as well (only 10 minute drive which is spectacular). This hotel has a sister hotel which is located one block down and I must say this hotel is BEAUTIFUL. The food was amazing, (different breakfast menu everyday), and a great pool which we also had access too. (The hours of the pool should be modified and opened later).

We booked at Bovedas de Santa Clara but due to maintenance works we got upgraded to Hotel Santa Clara Sofitel Legend. It was AMAZING! All the staff went above and beyond to help us, they were so friendly and happy to assist us. The buffet breakfast was delicious and diverse. The facilities were sooo gorgeous! It was colonial just exactly what i wanted. The history of the place is so interesting and Carlos the botones who gave us the tour through the hotel was amazing too. The location of the hotel was perfect, it is in the walled city but away from the main gates so it was quite and nice, just perfect to walk aeound the walled city. I definitely recommend this hotel and would def come back!

Small hotel in Old Town with large rooms

Large room with a small bathroom. Some parts of the kitchen did not work, but it was useful to have. The small balcony was nice, and I appreciated being able to use the pool of the larger hotel. Staff were great. I was not a fan of the old town, which felt like a tourist trap so moved to Getsemani.

Great stay within the Walled City, with caveats

Overall a good experience, excelent location within the Walled City of Cartagena. Service was good, but there are a few things to point out. The first is that the properly was clean, but noticeably in need of renovations (wear and tear, beyond what maintenance can repair).

Secondly, although access to the Sofitel Santa Clara is great, do keep in mind that the property itself has no kitchen, gym, pool, etc.

Lastly, we booked the \"Family Suite, 2 Bedrooms, Ocean View\". The room was comfy and well furnished, but it was NOT a 2 bedroom unit. It's an open 2-level loft and the bedrooms are beds on each level. Bathrooms were really small.

If you are looking for a family suit this is the only hotel in the wall city that has it ! Ocean view , two full bathroom and the enormous advantage that you can use all the amenities of the Sofitel Santa Clara. Excelente service with kind and friendly staff that went above all expectations. I highly recommended this hotel and will for sure return there.

Deceptive, aging hotel

Deception, that’s the first thing that comes to mind when looking at the “hotel’s” best photos. The pool is the sister property, which is stated, but it gives the idea of a luxury stay, when it isn’t.
We checked in to a king duplex, only to find a smaller bed, in a dark room with none of the furnishings shown in the photos. When asked to get the duplex we paid for, we were moved to another duplex with non-working A/C. 23.5 C is not comfortable. We were told to stay in a different room for the night and it would be fixed while we were out the following day. Next day after spending the day away we were told it was fixed, it wasn’t, we had to ask the front desk person to see for themselves. We were told to move again to a new room but had to move out by Friday, 2 nights shy of our reservations finish, but we’re assured that our original room would be fixed. It never was and the Bovedas dSC transferred us to the Sofitel for our final two nights.
The back and forth, the time spent arguing and trying to get a proper room really put a damper on our whole time in Cartagena. The hotel should not be showing the Sofitel’s pictures, even if you can use the amenities. It’s not great to walk down the block to get breakfast, or use the pool, then have to trek back after.
The hotel needs a refresh, and to take boutique out of its name, and replace the missing lightbulbs in the rooms.

READ BEFORE BOOKING

Wow wow wow. This is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at in my life time, and I stay at hotels over one third of the year. The room description and pictures were completely in accurate. The room provided was disgusting from the bed and the windowless room. All the amenities listed were not offered not even a desk. I waited for a manager for three hours and it was after midnight and they had just one of us move into a different room. They would not allow us to be refunded and leave the hotel. They were extremely rude very unhelpful and try to double charge me for room service. Out of all of the hotels in Cartagena this is one you should avoid I promise you there are hundreds of better hotels. The pictures listed aren’t even of the property. hotels.com should do a thorough investigation about this property.

Don't stay here, not worth the price.

For context, I'm a gold member for hotels.com and have stayed in multiple properties in Cartagena and its the first time I feel compelled to write a review.

The only thing good about this hotel is the ability to use the Santa Clara amenities. Room was dirty, uncomfortable, phone and safe were not working. Had to ask for extra amenities. First night, there was a cockaroach on the room (I took pictures to prove it). Impossible to work from the room with faulty wifi and not much light in the room for decent zooms.
Property is a bid dated, you're better off staying at newer boutique hotels (Bastion, Ananda etc.).

This hotel is conveniently located in the city center walking distance from all major clubs, restaurants and bars. Hotel is small but rooms are spacious and cozy. Since the hotel is small it permits the use of the pool at the Santa Clara hotel which is walking distance. My only negative comment is that it is overpriced and that the sofa bed is really unconfortable, othe than that Inwould stay here again.

Not What It Used To Be

This was our second stay at Bovedas, and it will be our last. Our room (402) was a bit neglected. The curtains were broken, the standing lamp didn't turn on and the skylight shade didn’t open. One of the bathrooms was not cleaned on our third day. The toiletries were not replenished and we had to call and ask for more shampoo/conditioner. Beware: the water that is delivered in the afternoon is NOT complimentary (contrary to what the hotel description says on hotels.com) and they charge you for the in-room coffee. I do have to mention the delicious breakfast which is by far the best thing about this hotel. It is very good and plentiful and the breakfast staff is friendly, welcoming, helpful and just wonderful.

Hotel staff is awesome! We had a great stay, would always come back! They had wonderful details for us like chocolate coated strawberries because we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. The room wonderful: beautiful decoration, great amenities, and quiet. Loved that we can use the pool and SPA of the Sofitel and they can charge our room at Bovedas! Keep it up, it was the best choice in Cartagena!

Excellent location close to restaurants and shops.

The staff of the hotel is friendly, courteous and professional. Nothing stops them to give you the best customer service and personal attention. Rooms are very modern, clean and quiet.
