This hotel is located on La Madera Beach, just five minutes from Zihuatanejo. Ixtapa's center is about a 10-minute drive away, while Petatlán is roughly 40 minutes, Barra de Potosi approximately 30 minutes, and Las Gatas Beach just 15 minutes by car.

Everything is perfect at Aura del Mar. We prefer the Superior Suite because of the extra room and the elevated view. The pool area is excellent with plenty of shade. Enjoyed our stay, great central location overlooking the water. Rooms are nice, pool was clean. It was slow season so we had hotel to our selves. Short walk to everything in town. Has nice beach access directly in front of hotel. Friendly staff. Laundromat a block away did a weeks worth of clothes for two people, same day for around $7. Great breakfast spot Bartolos in front of hotel. Would recommend for sure.

This is a really great property. We had a roomy suite with a sitting area, a large bathroom, and a very cute balcony with a jacuzzi tub and loungers.

The hotel has great staff and is so close to the downtown/\"Centro\" area - we were able to walk to many restaurants and more. The beach was warm FYI! Pool area was great.

Yes, there are MANY stairs. Something to consider. The hotel is also on top of a hill so there is a steep climb coming from the centro.

We've stayed at Aura del Mar twice now. We love staying there as the location is great, it is right on the beach, close to Centro and the view from the room is gorgeous. The staff is super nice and helpful. There are a few things they could improve. the shower had no water pressure for the last 3 days. It was so bad, it took me forever to wash my hair. It was the worst I've experienced in a hotel. We had some sort of glass fallen from the top floor and shuttered on our patio. The restaurant is good but very expensive. If the price is right, go for it!

This is our third stay over about twenty years at Aura del Mar. This place is heaven. The staff is excellent; the grounds are stunning. If you love Mexican art/architecture/colors, this place is for you. The rooms all face the sea and the views are magical. The staff hooks you up with reservations at the good restaurants, and there’s a taxi stand at the bottom of the hill so taxies are there within 2-3 minutes, ready to whisk you around the bay. The beach is calm and the sand is lovely. We usually go to Sayulita, which we’ve loved for many years, but now stay away during Christmas and Spring break because it’s packed. Zihuatenejo beach is super uncrowded, even on Spring break week. Give this place a try—if you like old school Mexican charm, you won’t be disappointed.

This was our second visit to Aura Del Mar; the first visit was when it was named Brisas Del Mar in 2010.
This property has kept all the charm that we feel in love with back in 2010 and has made some incredible additions since. The pool deck over looking the ocean was peaceful and gave you a beautiful 360• view. The landscaping is gorgeous and tended to.
The onsite spa has been updated and is lovely.

Coffee machines in every room with fresh ground coffee provided.

The property is unique in that there are several different levels and different room types. The decor is very interesting with lots of plants and statues and two talkative parrots. We were in a top floor room with two beds and a fabulous view. We enjoyed coffee on the balcony every morning. The location to walk along the malecon to town was convenient and offered us the opportunity to walk to several different restaurants. The only downside is the number of stairs to reach the pool and the beach. We would stay again however it was probably a one time stay as it is a bit out of our comfort zone due to cost.

This was my 3rd visit to the property and first since Covid, and the property still holds the same charm and hospitality since my first visit in 2014. The rooms have a lot of space and incredible views from most of them. Staff are so hospitable and the restaurant is great for breakfast, and lunch/drinks by the pool or on the beach. And of course the beautiful landscaping and the Parrots just complete the Old Mexico feel. Can't wait to return again and again!

You will not find a friendlier or more welcoming staff. Such a beautiful, boutique hotel with clean rooms and facilities.

We got upgraded to the Noyolytzi Suite from the Master Suite which was incredible. So clean, with two bedrooms and a big outdoor area in between, complete with a full kitchen and appliances, including a blender.

We hadn't planned a single excursion (trying to keep things easy and stress free) but there's a very friendly man on site much of the time, Carlos, who helps you book whatever you want, from snorkeling to turtle release to sunset cruise and many other things. He seems to know all the best tour guides and sets everything up for you, often next day or even same day if it's early enough.

One thing they don't advertise that we were so grateful for is that they will do laundry for you for a small charge. Our laundry bill for about 15 or so items was around $17 USD.

The stairs are a thing and can be a lot, as noted in other reviews. But if you call ahead or email ahead and ask, they can advise you on which room to book with fewer stairs to the beach if you want. We were grateful for the extra calorie burn after dining on all that delicious food! And there are always staff around to greet you as you climb the stairs, and a very friendly McCaw!

An amazing hotel! Beautiful grounds and rooms. It was like stepping into a little dream. The restaurant and staff were welcoming, knowledgeable and accommodating. The food so fresh and incredible selection of local seafood creativity prepared and presented. The front desk staff were warm and exceptionally friendly. The macaw’s living in the lobby area were beautiful….my favorite in the morning. The pool is absolutely stunning, just breathtaking. My favorite stay ever in Ixtapa and I’ve been there numerous times. Enjoy!

This was my ninth time visiting Mexico, and my favorite hotel by far! I loved that the hotel is very authentic, as far as its materials-wood, stones, tiles, and stucco-beautiful carved wooden doors. They scattered hibiscus flowers on my bed and left three bottles of water, which I refilled at a water bottle close by (bonus points). My room, while technically on the first floor, was elevated and had a large balcony and an excellent view of the beach. I loved that I could walk down to the pool, the beach, and the fantastic restaurant very easily. Alberto, who checked me in, immediately offered to carry my suitcase to my room, and made sure I knew how to operate the AC before he left. The staff at their restaurant, Bistro Del Mar could not have been more excellent and welcoming. I was traveling alone, and in Mexico, at resorts and hotels, that can sometimes result in awkward or inattentive service, but this was not the case. Cesar was always genuine in his pleasure at making me my nightly margaritas (delicious and not too sweet), and my frequent server, Tomas, was always attentive but non intrusive. Every meal I had was top notch, and right on the ocean! I highly recommend Aura Del Mar and can’t wait to return.

Father and son spring break

My 9 year old son and I stayed at Aura del Mar for Spring Break 2024. While the hotel is not kid focused or running over with screaming kids, it is kid friendly. The pool area is lovely, with plenty of different lounging areas in the shade. It's a bonus that the excellent and reasonably priced Bistro Del Mar is on the beach level, as they were consistently delivering food and drinks up to guests at the pool.
I considered it to be in the ideal location in Zihuatanejo, as it's a 10 minute walk north to the city center. Along the way, there are several highly regarded restaurants. Plus, Maderas right next door on the beach is also a great spot. Additionally, there are some true gem restaurants and coffee shops within several blocks of the hotel itself. In the other direction is Playa Ropa, which is a 15-20 minute walk, first uphill and then down.
The cabs were 450 MXN (about $28) each way, about a 15-20 minute drive.
As others have said, it's nice that there's a small convenience store across the street for room necessities. The hotel provides plenty of bottled and filtered water at no cost.
We didn't have any luck being able to book any excursions ahead of time, but the concierge Carlos was able to get us set up with fishing, zip lining and the sea turtle experience.
The rooms overall had everything needed - a working air conditioner, Wifi, and cable TV. We enjoyed playing cards on our balcony before heading out to dinner.

This is a beautiful property with all the greenery and flowers and great views. We enjoyed the Macaws, turtles, and even a huge iguana. Everyone is so friendly and helpful! We couldn't have asked for a better location as you can walk to everything. I booked rather late so most of the rooms were sold out, so we got a bottom room in the corner. Next time, I will book earlier and get a room a couple of floors up.

My first time staying at Aura del Mar and I shall return! Stayed in room 105 which was perfect. 30 seconds from the pool, 45 seconds and you're on Madera Beach. 45 seconds and you're in the lobby and out front on the street. The staff was simply marvelous. Special shout out to Sandy at the lobby bar and Roxy at the reception desk. Francisco needs to stop trying to side-hustle his excursions and adventures. Just take a \"No, thank you\" and quit asking me if I need to book anything, Francisco. The bartenders and waiters in the restaurant were all great, too.
Despite the street being torn up for major maintenance, we were a very short walk to lots of different restaurants and shops. The pool area is hard to beat, never any trouble getting a lounge chair. Same for the beach area, plenty of chairs. The boardwalk is close by and makes for an easy stroll to Playa Principal and plenty of things to see and do. I absolutely loved my visit and will be booking a return trip very soon!

From the moment we arrived, we experienced a very congenial staff and knew we had selected a very nice place for our next 2 weeks. The amenities were many: the pool is lovely, many places for enjoying one's afternoon in very comfortable lounges. The staff visits and offers drinks and food service there. The beach below is really clean, and easy access into the water. It's safe and children can enjoy it endlessly. The restaurant serves a nice variety of foods, including room service. We so liked working with the manager, Miguel. He made every effort to make some room changes and we were very pleased. The views are endless. Just beyond our hotel, one can access the walk paths above the beach which can take you into the main town of Zihua or head the opposite direction for other localities above the beach. This city is so environmentally focused and they also make every effort to protect the sealife and birds, etc. We felt very comfortable there, we tried so many different restaurants, many of which were in walking distance.
We loved our time there and plan to go again one day
!! The last time there was 2009...it was so different with a small population of 15,000...but this city knows how to grow without ruining the environment!!!

Our 3rd time staying at Aura Del Mar and we’ll be back! The price is VERY reasonable for how charming it is. Great location, well cared for, attentive service and a great little restaurant too. Lots of repeat visitors. There are a lot of stairs but the views are worth it. One of the only properties in the area with beachfront. Very clean. The grounds are lush with tropical plants. Pool area spotless and private feeling. Easy to fall in love with the hotel and Zihua in general!

It is a great hotel to travel with with teens, as it gives them some independence in a safe location. The staff are lovely people. Gorgeous property with stunning views, huge very clean rooms with awesome balconies, exceptional service. Just a wonderful experience. My husband and I went for a quick 5 day trip from our home in San Miguel de Allende. We normally don’t stay on a hotel property for meals and activities as we like adventure and variety, but this place was so pretty, with a great restaurant and beautiful pool and decks with hammocks overlooking the beach we only left a few nights for dinner to go to a few other highly-recommended restaurants. The hotel took all COVID precautions very seriously(I’m an RN is the US). Well worth the price. Loved the poolside food and drink service. Carlos was just amazing at making us feel so welcome from the very minute we arrived until we took a taxi back to the airport. Don’t hesitate to book this hotel. My husband and I have owned two hotels so we are very picky and this place is perfect.

Hotel Aura del Mar has now become my favorite hotel in all of the world. I was traveling alone and the staff was supportive, friendly, and I always felt that they had my best interests in mind. I stayed in the Master Suite which had the most amazing view of the beach and surrounding hills. I spent a lot of time just hanging out in my room enjoying the views in my hammock or in my \"cool tub.\" I will be back!

Just lovely green lush place. I LOVE THAT!!! super close to ocean/waterfront. Great location. You can walk to Zihua centro in like 10 min through ocean walkway. One of the best places weve stayed at. Only the water in the jetted tubs in room was not warm, but not bad. Overall i would stay again for sure!!!

This place was absolutely beautiful!! It rained the entire time we were there, but even with the rain it was gorgeous and the staff did their best to keep things dry and clean. The food at the restaurant was excellent too! I would highly recommend!!

This hotel have such a unique character, its small, Mexican Rustic Style and LOTS of stairs but in every corner you will find beauty. The view from the lobby its magnificent. We loved Aura del Mar, we only booked for one day while waiting our entrance day to a bigger Resort...we are looking forward to come back to Ixtapa and stay here for more days
