We enjoyed our 1 week stay. The property was clean, staff were friendly and helpful. The pool was nice, but wish there were more loungers. The breakfast was tasty and nice selection. We had the king suite and liked our room but the bed was a bit too firm for our liking. Good air conditioning in our room overall happy with the hotel.

no plug in bathroom, no hair dryer. Do not give out wash cloths at all no soap. Give you a tv remote with no directions and when i asked they were rude. Went to bar the workers were eatting supper and didnt want to deal with me. Finally gave me a beer. toilet did not flush well this was start of problems.

I booked this property online from Canada for 4 days thinking I would look around for a place to stay for a month when I arrived.
I quickly noticed how nice the resort and staff were but after my 4 days I had to relocate as the property was full. The manager Gerardo was fantastic and he put in time on his own accord to find me a suitable property to relocate to. I highly recommend this property, it has everything you need and you get the best value here. It’s just simply a lovely resort and is so close to the beach.
Don’t do as I did, only booking for 4 days, book your whole vacation at the Caracol!!

Great beach access and excellent water pressure. However, during the holiday season, we found the price too high for what was offered. The beds were really uncomfortable and caused back pain for us. Disappointingly, there were no beach towels provided, but they had towels for the pool, which we weren't allowed to take it to the beach....

Our biggest issue NO hot water & we were there for 2 wks - when we enquired we were pretty much given the brush off, also they had had some issue with electrical or water or something so for days were drilling thru concrete & we had to listen to that for hours on end.

The hotel grounds and the pool area are indeed very nice, but my room was terrible. No blow dryer, no shampoo or shower gel, only a bar of soap. Walls cracked, very basic furniture - more of a cell than a room. Hot water took 10 minutes (!) to arrive every day - what a waste of water! But the worst was the bed - it was the most uncomfortable, hard, bed I have ever had the misfortune to sleep on. My. right shoulder completely seized up after just 1 night, so I had to actually had to cut my trip short and come home early as I did not want to be in pain for the whole week.
NOT recommended!!

Had a bad experience in the restaurant with the waiter. Did not make us feel welcome at all and we heard him talking to the bartender saying we were Americans. Didnt let us sit where we wanted and it WAS NOT busy at all. Also didnt have tonic water for our drinks which was on the menu. Other than that experirnce, it was excellent.

January 2024. The staff here are very lovely and kind.The pool was clean & nice and deep although only 2 lounge chairs for the whole hotel. Do not bother with the all included breakfast. It was terrible at best making us not want to order anything else out of the onsite restaurant. The beds were extremely hard but the location was absolutely perfect. Just a quick three minute walk to the beach.

The hotel needs some work, could only have a cool shower no real hot water but okay as it was hot weather. Issues getting towels each day, some days lots other days had to ask as they took them away but didn't replace them. Last minute find, great service but needs TLC.

Cute place, nice pool and bar area upstairs. Wifi only worked in lobby, not in rooms as the online description stated. Breakfast was pleasant, and service was very friendly. Our room had leaks both in the sink and the shower; which made for quite a slippery/messy and potentially dangerous situation. We told staff about it right away but nothing was repaired during our stay, so we had to improvise, using the bathroom trash bin to catch the water under the sink, and had to mop up the floor after showering with sopping wet floor mats and hand/face towels daily. Made for a lot of laundry since we try to be more eco-friendly and typically don’t replace our towels daily. Beds and pillows were a bit lumpy and our windows didn’t close shut. Lots of storage in the room for clothing and there was a lot of hot water which was a very nice redeeming quality. Just needs some TLC/maintenance, otherwise a nice place with easy beach access.

Hotel Zihua Caracol is a wonderful choice in terms of its price-point and location. It is convenient for both the main waterfront and also Playa La Ropa, while being quieter than places in the center of town. It is not on the beach, which I prefer because of quietness, but it has superb views and is really only 200 meters from the beach. The included breakfast is great.

Toxic sewer smell

This would have been a salutary review if there wasn't a persistent smell of feces in the room. I told mment of the fact and they just shrugged their shoulders and said that this happens when the have a lot of guests. I guess it wasn't just my room. The fact that they had all the unrented rooms airing out should have been a signal. Other than that and the thin curtains, noisy families, maid that didn't come until 4pm,braying dog at 5am and rear half of unfinished rooms it was actually ok. Just behind the first row of hotels. Pool. Bfast, Ok cable and air. Clean. Big simple room. Ok water pressure and heat. View of bay. Pretty quiet. Good value if not for the sewer poisoning.

Our room was pretty spartan but for the price we felt very comfortable. It's dated but hey... your in Mexico! The beds left a lot to be desired, had a issue with one of the light switches (got a tingle every time we touched it...staff fixed next day) and towels seemed to be at a premium. A Real Premium... they lighten up a bit after we'd been there a couple days. On the plus side the staff was great, everything was cleaned daily, the pool was awesome, the free breakfast very good( 3 days), the rooftop restaurant very nice(twice) with a beautiful view and the surrounding area was great. As you might expect so many places to see, eat at and check out we didn't eat or stay at the hotel very much. For us la Madera is the area to be in.

Inexpensive, rustic, hotel near the beach

This hotel is not targeted toward US guests but is fine for guests with appropriate expectations. Everything in our room worked. The breakfast buffet was basic Mexican dishes. The towel policy is strict and very limited as mention in other reviews. The beds are intentionally very firm. The shower tile was patched during a repair, poorly and the shower head was damaged probably while clearing mineral buildup, but they worked. If you want luxury, book a modern resort. If you are fine with clean and simple, this is a solid choice.

overall a good choice

overall we enjoyed our stay, polite friendly competent staff, no language issues, the breakfast was terrific. they seem to cater to Mexican bus tours, so you'll get 2 or 3 quiet nights where the pool is yours, then the bus fills it up and it's bustling, busy and can be noisy until late, then back to quiet. also short beach walk to town, nice beach a block away.

Stayed 3 nights in mid March. Good price for the room but oh does it need a makeover in a bad way! Need new beds as they were awful as were the pillows. 1980's style tv although we peaked in other rooms and they were furnished a bit better than ours this place could be so much better with some time and money with a makeover. Breakfast was included in our stay and it was really good as we were able to order off the menu. They advertised a rooftop bar but it was never open the 3 days we were there. A short walk down to Madera beach, it was ok if you like dark brown sand! I don't so wasn't impressed with that particular beach. We did a day trip to Isla Iztapa which was awesome and a catamaran trip another day. Next trip will find something different. Would only recommend if you want pretty much bare bones minimum.

Our room (#201) had a great new air conditioner; set the temp, worked perfectly; also very quiet. Very small bathroom, but we managed. Bed was a bit hard and pillows were terrible, very lumpy. Nice little pool. It was more noisy after 10:00 p.m. than we like (we're not young any more). Breakfast was okay.

My wife and I had a reservation for three nights but we liked the hotel so much that we extended our stay four more nights. The hotel is well located near Madera beach and about a twenty minute walk to downtown Zihua. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful.

Hotel was about what I was expecting for the price. Beds are a little hard. Rooms are very basic. Floor was wet when we got there? We could get warm water if you let it run for a few minutes, but they are stingy on the towels. 1 per person and no beach towels. Worth it to bring an extra of your own. Breakfast was good. Go for the omelets, stay away from the soggy french toast. Staff was awesome but they will give you "tomorrow" as an answer to most requests. The safe in our room didn't work and never got fixed but nothing was stolen so no harm done. Rodrigo at the front desk speaks great English and is super helpful for translating and answering questions.

We had booked in for one week and did not stay even one night. The room and hotel are in bad need of renovation - thankfully we found a room available at another hotel across the street for our first night. As we had prepaid and a refund was not available, we upgraded to one of their best suites at their sister hotel across the street for the balance of our stay (an additional $50 US per night). While better, this hotel is also in dire need of upgrading. The staff were working hard at cleaning and gardening but despite this our room had a rank smell (sewage?). We toughed it out for a few nights but ended up moving next door again to Hotel La Quinta Don Andres, a very nice and much newer property. On the plus side, the location of the hotel is good - across the street from Madera Beach and a ten minute walk into town, several restaurants close by.

Quiet and quaint. And.Great!!!

This is a hotel and staff that I cannot wait to return to as the area is safe and the people at the hotel remember your name. We are very near the beach with many other beaches or downtown within walking distance. Shopping is easy and dining is good with many restaurants in the area. The roof top restaurant at the hotel has a fantastic sunset view. I felt cared for from the time of our arrival till the moment we left.

This hotel was in a great location, we walked everywhere. Out of the 14 days we stayed there, we had hot water 3 times. We like to take a shower after being on the beach, but there was never any hot water. We loved the area just outside our room to have coffee in the mornings and cocktails in the evening and visit with the other guests. The pool area was great too.
John, who ran the evening roof top bar/restaurant, was awesome. He made everyone feel welcome, and would do anything to please.

I love the location.

The Zihua Caracol is such a great place to stay. The staff is wonderful, always so helpful and kind. The breakfast room staff provide tasty, excellent meals. And, the breakfast room is also a super place to meet all the special visitors who stay at the hotel.The rooftop restaurant serves good pizza, and is also a good place to gather with friends. I took advantage of the large, clean, refreshing pool, so good after trekking around town in the heat:) The location couldn't be better if one wants to be near the beach, and also be near the town and malecon.

Overall, we were extremely happy with this hotel. Of course, the rooms are simple and plain, but acceptable for the price. We found the overall property and pool to be very nice.
The rooftop restaurant and bar served great food and drinks. Also, Bartender John was a lot of fun.
Our breakfast was delicious and Playa La Ropa was a (cheap) quick taxi ride away.

Great location, pleasant stay.

Stayed for two weeks. Had a great time. This hotel is close to everything in Zihua, we only had to take a cab once when we went out of town to see the ruins. The staff is great.......happy hour on the roof top patio is a great place to have a mojito and watch the sun set! The rooms are basic but completely fine, they all have nice outdoor sitting areas with shade and the pool is nice too.

Clean and fairly quiet hotel close to everything.

We had never been to Zihautenjo before and were very happy there for the 2 weeks. We explored everything the town has to offer which includes many excellent restaurants. The Hotel Zihua Caracol is centrally located so you can walk everywhere. The hotel itself is clean and they are working hard every day to renew things in the rooms as well as the surroundings. Staff is the best part, they are so friendly and try hard to accommodate in any way they can. Rooms were a good size, unfortunately Mexican beds are not what we are used to. Hint, went to Commercial and bought a foamy for $20.00 for the bed. Breakfast each morning was very good, a decent selection. The roof top restaurant open each day except Monday at 6pm, has a great view, pizza is delicious. Enjoyed John each time we were there.

Home away from home!!!!

Great place to stay, close to the beach excellent view from the terrrace restaurant. If you want an all inclusive then this is not your place. If you want to be welcomed and received like you deserve then stay here or the sister hotel across the street. We have stayed in both and we feel that as you have access to both hotels and pools then you cannot lose. The checkin staff of Carlos and Elizabeth are just the start of a great vacation. You can eat on the terrace or you are a a short walk front many other places. I would advise to pay a bit more and take the inclusive breakfast and there is little need for lunch after it. There are 4 beachs within 4-15 minutes walking with one requiring a short boat ride across the habour if you wish. There are many things to do and downtown is only a 12 minute walk away. It is a safe road to walk at night and the sunsets are incredible. We lacked for nothing!!!!

Close to Beach

This hotel is old but clean and comfortable.
Few steps away from Madeira beach which I liked. And not too far from Downtown Zihautenejo.

Ok place to stay, no frills

Room was small but comfortable, it works for a place to stay if you are more interested in getting out and exploring the area.
Ac worked, showers were hot, pool was nice and staff was more than friendly.

fourth time to Zihua

have stayed in Zihua before and room was as expected, not plush, no mints on the bed or flat pannel TV. TV has only 2 stations, both Spanish. Staff was nice. Bathroom had shower stall, comode and small sink (14" across) one light bulb above the sink/mirror. No Flat TV built into the mirror ( Marriott-Hilton Head). Basic room, OK for the money. If you need Plush, room service, towell attendent at the pool, go to Ixtapa or Can cun..

Good location but poor amenities.

Staff tried hard but despite many polite requests I never was able to get hot water. The staff did give me a promotional deal as they were almost empty. I had to request toilet paper despite leaving an empty roll with the tip.

Convenient to beach and restaurants and the town

The location was super - we could walk to everything. Our pool clean & quiet - but if hub-bub desired we were able to walk across street to share ocean side hotel pool. Had to switch rooms after first night on inferior mattress - chose to upgrade to room with fridge/kitchen at that time - so a bit extra $ spent. Went to the outdoor restaurant there once... much better choices nearby. Shower works but takes 2 showers for the warm water to arrive! Not the best but a long way from bad.

better than expected

Located at the eastern end of the La Madera strip. a 10 minute walk to the centro and many super restuarants along the way. The top floor is called "garden views" but actually many have awesome ocean views. the balcony is not private, but it was very quiet when we were there..the pool is good too.

Caracol = snails pace

Friendly staff, lots of English, helpful.
best beach was La Ropa - 10 minute walk away
rooftop resteraunt was scenic, menu was sparce, but the burgers were good.
Centro felt like Niagra Falls, but local markets were authentic.

Hotel Zihua Caracol

The superiors rooms are excellent--large and surprisingly quiet considering that they are on a street, but the street gets little traffic. I've stayed here before and will stay again.

nice place to start

I was expected and welcomed, nice people there, clean and easy to get around from there, this is an excellent place to book for a start off point then you can decide if you want something more or less expensive. It is affordable and lovely, the pool is nice, kid friendly too. Breakfast is great and dinner is pleasant. Air conditioning on steroids than can be turned down and a whole new meaning to a firm bed, clean and private with outside furniture in an area, nice. Affordable, comfortable and not plush, clean, roomy.
